Applied July 8th. Did biometrics 24th August. No MER or any form of update since then, except I noticed eligibility review commenced around the end of July.

You must be among the first Nigerians to receive an AIP this month. After the initial AIP waves of late July/early August, things went quiet, at least on Nairaland. Glad to know that things may be moving along again.

I have done that in the past, they usually send the default message of we are still working on your application

Then I'm afraid that you have no other choice than to be patient. Just chill for now. There is still ample hope for your application.

No I haven't gotten AIP o , anything I can send to know what the problem is

You can raise a CSE to know your application status since it has gone beyond the normal processing times as of when you applied.

Good day guys, gurus in the house help me decipher my gcmsnotes o, just got it today after applying since April, on the eligibility part, I saw recommend interview and I don't think Nigeria does interview for visa application. Guys pls kindly explain what does that means ?

Have you gotten an AIP or Medical Request?

If I remember correctly, "recommend interview" simply means that a senior VO will review your file. The VO who assessed it initially has some concerns, hence the interview recommendation. However, the senior VO will use his discretion to make a final decision since we don't have interviews in Nigeria. They may also request further documentation if necessary to complete assessment.

Others may shed further light on this.

These are interesting protocols that could work if implemented well. We must all learn to live with Covid-19. I just hope that countries like Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, among others, will open their borders with similar protocols. Many international students are currently stranded as it is.

I am not saying that juju exists or it doesn't. I do not agree or disagree with whatever I have not truly seen in action. In all my years, I am yet to actually see a verifiable instance of such juju actually working. I only hear stories and anecdotes.

Since I cannot verify the efficacy of juju, I cannot say if it exists or not. However, if it does exist, why haven't we all seen objective proof of its existence, especially in this day and age when things can easily land on the internet?

Please how sure are you about being almost impossible to get visa for colleges? I am about to apply for study permit after getting admission for PGC in Humber College. I had a 2.1 in my BSc. Documents and SOA are good. Is it advisable I go ahead with the study permit processing?

2.1 and going for a PGC? Hmmm.

The image below answers many questions concerning those Pakistanis who got AIPs and later got refusals. I wonder why IRCC would make such an error though.

This message was sent to the CIC accounts of some Pakistani applicants who had earlier gotten an AIP. So far, the issue seems restricted to only Pakistani applicants. I haven't seen persons from other nationalities with this issue.

Thank you for the response. I appreciate. Any idea about the duration of study please? Should it be length of program + 90 days?

You can't determine the length of your study permit. Simply input the start and end dates for your program. IRCC will determine how long your permit would last. Study permits can always be extended from inside Canada so you shouldn't worry about that.

Hello house,
please how do I fill expected duration of study on the imm1294 form? I saw online that it should be expected length of program + 90 days. Is this accurate please?

Is it compulsory to fill the imm5257B form? it is showing as an optional form on my application portal.

I received some funding (research assistanship) it was stated in briefly (2 lines on my admission letter) Is this proof enough for the VO? I asked the student advisor for a separte letter about the funding but she said i can use my admission letter. Is this correct please?

Thanks house.

That's enough as long as the amount and duration are clearly stated.

And yes, I'll advise you to fill the so-called "optional form".

Hello gurus in the house. I’m new here but I’ve taken time to read through the thread to get informed on helpful tips. But I need some personal enlightenment.

I got PhD admission and departmental scholarship of $21,000 CAD to be paid @1,750 CAD per month (1750 * 12 = 21k) at University of Saskatchewan starting May, 2021 semester. Tuition= CAD 7000.

I would like to know if without providing a proof of tuition fee payment it will be safe to proceed with study permit application. I currently do not have 7k CAD to settle the tuition, but will like to hear your suggestions.

Looking forward to your informed responses. Thanks.

With the exception of full tuition waivers, all fully funded PhD students are expected to pay tuition from their funding. The calculation of $1750 pm doesn't apply to you. Remove your tuition of $7000 from the funding and calculate the rest as your living expenses. This would amount to $14,000. That amount is still within the expected range.

As for actually paying your tuition, most schools have the option of "deferring tuition" for award recipients. It works seamlessly and you'll be able to pay once the money is lodged in your student account by the department.

For study permit application, simply attach your proof of funding and your personal statement of account (don't worry too much if you don't have a lot of money in it). You'll be just fine.

Wow. I love us to argue & fight on this. Can you swear of Quebec being bilingual? I’m from Cameroon & it’s often said Cameroon is bilingual but no. It’s not. It’s just on paper. Come here & you will fill it. Anglophones are thé minority.

Same with Canada but the reverse.
Quebec is mostly occupied with francophonie (French africa - Gabon, Ivory Coast, Congo, DRC, Chad, Algeria... France ...) Very few English speaking.

Cameroon and Canada are to be the only 2 bilingual countries in the world but forget that paper talk please.

You're right. However, Montreal, which is the capital of Quebec, has historic Anglophone areas and these are located around the Downtown. I wouldn't advise someone who doesn't speak French to school anywhere in Quebec apart from Montreal. However, if you are a fast learner and have an aptitude for language, you can cope. There are some Nigerians in Laval and Sherbrooke and they are doing just fine.

I have Mail requests recently that queries on if Institutions also determine your Approval or Rejection...

I will only write based on my own information and assessments , anything i right is basically my opinion , because there are some warriors here!

YES! the institution you choose is greatly an asset,

There are institutions that are rarely or have never been mentioned here, Nigerians do like Sugar-Ants, Mr A applied to this school and got visa, Mr B applied to this school and got rejection, then that means that the school that has more rejections is worse than the other school.
If there are too many applications(Nigerians) for visa coming from a particular school, trust me rejections will increase on that school, Take for instance "Colleges", it is almost impossible to get a visa for study there , even if you pay 6 Years tuition fees.

Area/Location--- Nigerians also choose schools depending on location, Cheap place, place wey no too cold, place wey dem no dey speak french but English etc, From observation it hampers your approvals because it may rather become a territory.

School fees--- We choose schools depending on the fees, as cheap as it gets , it gets more applications, like i said earlier there are schools that have never been mentioned here, like school of 50,000CAD.....30k to 40k CAD,...... but the truth is that this schools will get you an approval easily , from strong convictions if you have evidence that you can pay this fees and sustain your self there .

This things is all about money and Your capacity, they are also worried about your plans but more interested in what you will be offering in Canada too, either way. this is a WIN-WIN situation for anyone heading to Canada but how about the people that are to decide if this happens , The VOs?

Very good points, especially on the schools. We hardly see discussions on UBC, uToronto, uVictoria, McGill, McMaster and Western here. Those schools, though relatively more expensive, tend to have fewer rejected applicants. However, getting into them is a subject for another day.

As for regions, Nigerians are flooding Ontario and Newfoundland. What happened to Quebec, Yukon, New Brunswick, etc? After all, there are even colleges in the Northwest territories.

You guys procedure seem different. You don’t do medicals in our country unless instructed to do. Again, if you are told to médicals, 95% you get the visa. It’s 430CAD so you can’t just do.
What you are required to do is Biometrics.

$430 for medicals? shocked shocked shocked. Haba na. That's over N120,000. Is it IOM that charges that amount or what? That's serious.

One more thing. Always make sure that you sign the family declaration form. Hand signed. Print, then sign. I didn't sign this form in my first application. So, I strongly believe that it affected the last year's application. This could be the reason for. ***NO FAMILY TIE in HOME COUNTRY****.

You don't have to print and sign any form if its an online application. That wasn't the reason for the rejection. Something else must have gone wrong.

Thank you so much for the response
I have another question please
The problem is the names on my school documents is different from the names on my national ID card and bvn
For example the name on my school documents are Ada Lucy Johnson and the name on my national ID card and bvn is Lucy Ada Johnson

Can this be a problem for me In future when processing my masters

It's not a problem as long as your surname is consistent and your other names are all there. You don't have to get an affidavit or anything if you have something like:

Johnson, Lucy Ada
Or
Johnson, Ada Lucy

Notice that Johnson remains consistent as surname. However, if Johnson changes roles and is used as first or middle name then you should swear an affidavit. Also, if one of your given names is omitted in one document, that is also fine. As long as all your names are on your passport.

I beg to disagree with you on the subject matter @dommakavelli. Interestingly, we are intelligent beings and mustn't agree from same perceptive. This makes us standout. Therefore, you may feel free to believe what you think as my post wasn't meant to entertain fears on anyone but rather to give an accurate data about the substantive purpose of the invention of the "AIP" and the possible outcome of the "AIP" should any student begin their classes without a final approval.

Goodluck!

It will end in praise.

Avoid the use of the word "accurate". You are only speculating, sir. There's nothing accurate about speculations. You may be right or you may not. Only time will tell. You are correct that an AIP is not a Study Permit and I think all applicants know that. Every other thing you've said about the AIP is not accurate. They are simply informed guesses.

Thanks for this; nawa for all these monikers just making one unnecessarily worried. Saw a few pages behind that online classes won't count towards EE but would count only towards PGWP. Been wondering since then about the practicality of this only to see your post.

Please please please let us make sure whatever we post is authentic and genuine information as you never know who is digesting the information. And let everyone also go the extra mile to research into the veracity of whatever we read on here rather than just running along with it and applying it blindly to our application.

Many persons derive pleasure in casting their gloom or negativity on others. You must arm yourself with a mental shield if you don't want to kill yourself over uncontrollable factors. As far as the current situation is concerned, NO ONE ON THIS THREAD or even OFFLINE can say anything with certainty. What we are experiencing is unprecedented. Not even the best immigration experts can advise properly because there is no basis for such an advice. We are only left with our intuition and communication. We must learn to filter the things we hear except we are 100% certain of them or we just want to "move along with it".

So much bad blood on this thread over nothing. No one is forcing anyone to believe anything or pay any tuition here. While some persons may appear knowledgeable based on their experience here, they are still speculating. In every speculation, there is more than 50% chance that they are wrong. As long as no one here works for the IRCC, we should all express our opinions and let things slide. People will do whatever they want to do anyway. Let's all relax and learn to celebrate our little victories, however short-lived. AIP or no AIP, those who will get their SPs will get them. Those who will not, will not. These things are beyond our control and permutations. Tensions are rising for everyone but ultimately, we gamble with uncertain odds and hope that they will be in our favour.

Thank you. I am starting online too. First class is tomorrow sef. 9pm-11pm. I have subscribed 10gb plans on MTN and GLO. I'm on 4G. I have a laptop with 5 hours+ battery and I can always use the generator if NEPA fails. My phone battery also lasts just in case. My major issue is with the books I may need but my university has a great online library and I can access whatever I need easily.

I am not really afraid for my AIP because I got a medical request too. I just want to do my program and focus on it. I'm going to Canada to study first. Everything is not about PR or PGWP. Yes, I want those too but I want the education more, whether online or not.

But not everyone can afford online classes though. I sympathize with those who have to defer because they cannot afford online lectures or cope with it. All of us will get our TRV soon. Have some faith.

Your last paragraph is true too. However, if you can afford to pay the high tuition fees, I wonder why the person can't afford online lectures. However, I agree that situations can be different.

LOL...what are you talking about?....this is crazy!

People rationalise too much. No one is a VO here and people shouldn't cast their gloom upon others. Many are content with starting their programs with an AIP. Others will defer. We don't have to make the AIP a subject of too much debate. Some have it, many others do not.

One thing is certain in this: the fastest way for any country to improve her economy is to open her borders. Canada has not done that yet. It is also clear that with or without the AIP, students are deferring and IRCC is aware of this. Nobody is baiting anyone. They are doing what they can. Applicants should also do what they want.

Personally, I'll advise anyone who has the AIP to start online (especially those in programs that will be completed in 2 or more years). Covid-19 won't go away by next year. Some of these restrictions or hybrid instruction models will still be there. No one can divine what the future will be. Many may choose the negative side of things for one reason or another but I'd rather err on the positive side of things. We are not in normal times. Any progress should be accepted.

To all those starting their programs online as from today, I wish you good luck in everything. Many of us across the world will do same because we know the value of education. May the odds be in your favour!

With this new strategy by IRCC on AIP which is the first stage approval, one of the requirement for the Second Stage approval (final approval) is Police Clearance Certificate, which makes it compulsory.

Do refer to the post in the link below,
This is based on experience of a member of this forum who is not in Lagos but was able to do her Police Clearance Certificate without travelling down to Lagos

https://www.nairaland.com/5818588/canadian-student-visa-thread-part/143#91581107

It is NOT compulsory, even with the 2 stage approval process. They only added it there for those it is applicable to. Police clearance is not needed for Nigerian temporary resident visa applicants. Those who do it simply do so in the Nigerian tradition of "make I do everything so that dem nor go delay my application". VOs won't demand for it.

It's not compulsory. You can add it if you want but most people get their permits without it.

Has anyone seen this. Someone got refusal even after getting AIP

We can't truly say if this document is real or doctored. It wasn't the applicant that posted it but a third party. I would take that with a pinch of salt.

Apart from that, it is very possible that the applicant may have misrepresented facts, failed medicals or criminality checks. It is even possible that the applicant submitted fake documents or there have been changes to his eligibility based on one factor or another. I really doubt if IRCC will give an AIP and finally deny an application for the type of reasons I see here (these reasons should have been enough for a stage one refusal to begin with). It just doesn't add up.

This is my opinion on this. Everyone should calm down.

I did some research as promised and came across this:

Financial aid is available but limited and highly competitive. It is suggested that students give serious consideration to their financial planning before submitting an application. Normally, a student will not be accepted unless adequate financial support can be provided through a scholarship/award and/or by the student's supervisor. Academic units cannot guarantee financial support via teaching assistantships.

It seems your request should be directed primarily to your supervisor. However, you should still send the request to the GPD. You shouldn't even have been admitted without financial support in the first place so you have a strong case here.

You don't need any specific format. Just make it simple and direct.

Dear GPD (or name),

I am one of the new intakes of the PhD program in Bioresource Engineering for the Fall 2020 semester. I would like to confirm if I am eligible for any departmental funding or assistantship at the moment. I would really appreciate if I can get a funding offer as this would greatly enhance my living condition and facilitate my application for a study permit.
