No update yet oo

IRCC is focusing on study permit applications. Other forms of TRV are not being considered at this point. You may get a response when they've cleared their backlogs but just keep your fingers crossed on that. Their aim at this point is to finalise the applications of individual study permit seekers. Accompanying family members will not be prioritised yet but this could change soon.

Based on the good news we've all been receiving, it is safe to assume that everyone with an AIP got approved. It is only a matter of time before those who are yet to get theirs would. Patience is key here. I doubt if it would extend beyond this month. It appears like IRCC ignored new applications (from October) in order to finalize stale applications. They'll definitely finish the backlog soon and move on to new applications.

Amen amen and amen... thanks for this... I was honestly feeling down and losing concentration at work..
I claim it, this month is our month of celebration and good news

I've said it before but to others and I will say it to you too: don't allow Canada to weigh you down. I understand how it must feel right now but you have to just be patient and persevere. Canada's visa process is meant to drain you because of the long wait you have to go through. This is one country that is not in a hurry to do anything. They take their time and they don't care how this affects applicants. The moment you apply for a Canadian visa, take it as a gamble for time, success, or rejection. You should also have a concrete plan B because like it or not, Canada is just one country where everything seems unpredictable.

Having said the above, I admonish you to relax and allow things work at their own time. Find things to do that will take your mind off the anxiety and worries. If your application has gone beyond the normal time, you should use the webform to make enquiries. If it is within the normal time, then be patient. People have waited for over 7 months for responses on this thread and they didn't die. Even in normal times, decisions can take as long as 4 months in some cases. You'll be fine.

However, if I provide all necessary documents and info as suggested, do u think the CO will not later ask why I am moving with my family? Though this was not raised as part of reasons for refusal in my first application.

It wasn't mentioned and I doubt if it'd be an issue since your job acts as home ties.

It was actually a very strong letter of Introduction from Thompson River University and not from Nigeria.

Get one from Nigeria. The VO is not concerned with TRU. His concern is with how the degree will be useful to your career as a lecturer. That is where his fears come from.

If you read the note well youll see that the VO noted that there was an endorsement from his university.

I think the best option for him is to try express entry unless the university is sponsoring the MSc.

Yes, an endorsement could simply mean a study leave or letter of introduction in this context. It may not be detailed. I'm advising him to get a detailed reference letter in support of his program.

If his intention is to migrate, he could try express entry as you suggested.

Well, I did.
I also clearly stated the reasons for this new program in my SOP. My B.Sc., M.Sc. and PhD are all in Computer Science and I need to specialize in Data Science and apply it to Healthcare. And we don't have any program for Data Science in Healthcare in Nigeria.
Computer Science is a general program while Data Science is a specialised program.

Hello Milkytins

The VO was not convinced that you are a genuine student because of career progression. It may be helpful if you get a letter from your HOD or any top Professor in your field or maybe from your university itself. This letter should explain why the Masters in Data Science is necessary for you at this point and the contributions it would make to your career as an academic. The letter should be attached to your reapplication should you want to reapply.

It may also be better if you show why data science is necessary for your research. Indicate your research history and explain what has been missing that only data science can help you accomplish. Establish why you have to do a second masters at that cost and what financial or career benefits may come from it.

Thank you once again.

You can raise a webform to the Nairobi office and the general office too and then follow up the webform with emails to these addresses:

nairobi@international.gc.ca
nrobi-im-enquiry@international.gc.ca
nrobi-immigration@international.gc.ca

In your email, emphasize why you need a final decision at this point and its implications for your studies. Feel free to "rant" and explain all the psychological and emotional difficulties that the situation has created. It will definitely be read even if they don't respond.

Na wa o. IRCC just decided to mute we that have AIP since. Concentration on studies in becoming tough. Having a sound sleep is even difficult. I will refresh my email more than 5 times within an hour. Sometimes I will even mark the previous donotreply emails as unread just to show I have new email... Hahahaha

I have got no choice than to drink water and take chill pill. Please anyone that has AIP and got BVL plus PPR this week should please update us at least we will be motivated.

I just can't wait to get the positive news.

Hello Iceman2020,

I understand how you feel. It's a truly disturbing situation. It is one thing to have an AIP and know that things aren't moving. It's another thing to have an AIP and see others get PPRs (especially when they applied after you). It can be quite frustrating and deleterious to mental well-being. However, you shouldn't allow it get to you too much.

Rest assured that your application will turn out positive and you'll get feedback soon. You're not alone and that's a good thing. Canada bound students all over the world are putting pressure on IRCC. Expect final decisions soon. Like I've said before, don't allow IRCC give you headache over nothing. Hopefully, more decisions will come this week and this thread will light up like last week.

I'll still advise you to raise a webform if that makes you feel better. Raise a webform and request for finalisation of study permit application. This isn't necessary but it won't hurt to try and it would definitely make you feel better knowing that someone in IRCC will read your message.

The wait is killing me o. How can I apply since May and I won't be among the first to be approved cry cry cry cry.

I can't even read well and focus because of the anxiety. I feel emotionally drained because of Canada, coupled with the unrest in Nigeria.

Truly, the journey to Canada is not for the faint hearted.

Has anyone else received BVL?

Most of those with approvals had their applications sent to China. I think some visa offices are yet to start issuing approvals. So far, it appears that China and UAE's visa offices have issued approvals en masse. There are also pockets of approvals from London, Poland and a few other visa offices. I doubt if the Nairobi office has started issuing approvals en masse. If your application was retained by that office then you have to be patient. If it was sent to another office, then when that office starts issuing approvals, you'll definitely get.

It's also possible that IRCC is trying to stagger the approvals by allowing only some offices to issue approvals at a time. Or maybe it's on a weekly basis. I'm only conjecturing. We can never tell. Let's see what next week brings. For those still awaiting their approvals, you have to be patient and move beyond the temporary delay. Don't allow IRCC to give you high blood pressure over nothing.

There is an assumption out there that, some applicants are semi-approved through AIP but to get fully approved and to receive PPR , the DLI must be on the list, I suppose since all the ones who got the PPR's are on the list, I might be wrong.

To everyone who has AIP and recently got BVL,
is ur DLI approved for the COVID-19 readiness plan?
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/students/approved-dli.html#wb-auto-42

That's not a correct assumption. There's no correlation between DLI readiness and approval. Approval doesn't mean you can travel. I think most approvals will be issued within the next two to four weeks and then students can consider travelling should their universities be on the list. Even if they have the approval and their universities are not on the list, they won't be able to travel.

UCalgary is on the list:
Update for international students currently outside Canada:

The Government of Canada recently announced an update to travel restriction exemptions. This change, which is scheduled to take effect Oct. 20, 2020, will allow UCalgary international students with a valid study permit or a study permit approval to enter Canada. UCalgary's COVID-19 readiness plan has been approved by the provincial government.

This update applies to all international students, regardless of where they are travelling from or when their study permit was approved.

Students should not make any travel plans until they have met all requirements and received all necessary authorizations. Details about what is required will be updated on the Government of Canada travel exemptions website on or before Oct. 20, 2020.

The Government of Canada requires all students, and any family members accompanying them, arriving from an international location to quarantine for 14 days and monitor themselves for symptoms. Students must confirm their arrival with the university and follow UCalgary’s quarantine process for students.

If you have questions, you can contact UCalgary’s International Student Services team at issimmigration@ucalgary.ca.

Saskatchewan Polytechnic approved

Fanshawe:
From Fanshawe college

Dear Fanshawe student,

As you may already know, new travel restrictions will take effect on October 20, allowing international students to enter Canada if their designated learning institution (DLI) has an approved COVID-19 readiness plan in place approved by the government.

Fanshawe College has a comprehensive plan to welcome international students to Canada, including assistance for students with their quarantine plans and guidance in acquiring food and medication during the 14-day self-isolation period. The readiness plan outlines campus safety and protocols in the event of any COVID-19 cases at the school. The document was submitted to the provincial government on August 28 and is currently under review.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will continue to publish and update the list of approved DLIs. Fanshawe College expects to receive approval imminently and is ready to welcome when the approval is secured.

Students with study permits approved on or before March 18 will no longer be authorized to enter the country as of October 20 if their DLI is not on the IRCC list. Travellers should not make any travel plans until they have met all requirements and received all necessary authorizations.

We will continue to stay in touch, and will provide updates to international students and education agents as soon as they become available.

Algonquin College

"The Government of Canada recently announced that starting October 20, 2020, students with their study permit approved and studying outside of Canada at an institution with a COVID-19 readiness plan approved by their province or territory will be able to proceed to Canada for their studies. At this time, Algonquin College is awaiting approval of its readiness plan, and will notify you as soon as it is received. Please note that Algonquin will not be issuing Letters of Support for students’ travel to Canada until we are added to the list of Designated Learning Institutions with permission to receive students. You can also check our FAQ page for up to date information. For more information on travelling to Canada, please click here.

Please note that this change doesn’t affect study permit holders already in Canada.

To make your transition a smooth one, we have provided all the resources you need to adhere to the quarantine regulations. Register your self-isolation plan or let us help you build one. Accommodations, groceries and travel resources, the Algonquin College Self-Isolation program has you covered."

Dalhousie University

Dalhousie University is very pleased that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has revised border restrictions to welcome international students and their immediate family members to approved Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs), starting later this month. For detailed information, please refer to IRCC’s update on travel restriction exemptions for international students.

You are able to apply for your study permit and visa at any time, but Dalhousie must be included on the Approved DLI list before you will be able to travel to Canada. Currently, we are consulting with our provincial and federal government partners to ensure that we will be included on the Approved DLI list and anticipate that will happen in early to mid November. We will advise all Dalhousie international students when Dalhousie is included on the Approved DLI list.

UNBC their plan was approved and they expect to be on the list on the 20th. It's stated on the website online

Brock University Toronto is on the list. They got email from university confirming the news.

Humber
As you may be aware, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will release its list of the country’s colleges and universities that are classified as Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs).

Humber has submitted our application and expects to be added to the list in the near future. We have developed a comprehensive COVID-19 Readiness Plan, and are currently waiting for our provincial and federal Governments to approve the plan. We are ready to welcome you to Humber and to Toronto once their approval is received.

We are aware that study permit processing is being prioritized for students who have applied to institutions on the DLI list. Further, students who had been approved for a study permit prior to March 18 will no longer be authorized to enter Canada as of October 20 if their DLI is not on the list. IRCC has begun communicating this to affected students.

These are additional reasons why we are working closely with our governments to have Humber added to the DLI list as soon as possible. We expect that the DLI list will be updated on an ongoing basis and that Humber will be on it very soon.

We will continue to be in contact with international students and provide updates as they become available. For more information regarding future travel restrictions, please visit the following link: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/2020/10/update-on-travel-restriction-exemptions-for-international-students.html

MCGILL: (see attached)

Sheridan (see attached)

YORKU: They confirmed that they have an approved COVID readiness plan in place. However they announced that winter 21 will also be online.

I think we should just wait for the list to come out first. 20th is not far again. I have some doubts concerning the information here but let's see.
