Pius Anyim has said his relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari transcends partisan politics and should not be seen as a prelude to his defection to the All Progressives Congress.

“My friendship with President Buhari transcends politics,” the former Senate President told PREMIUM TIMES by telephone Friday night.

Mr Anyim met with Mr Buhari in camera on Friday afternoon, an unusual and unexpected mingling in which many are already seeing a political undertone.

Similar visits by politicians who were not previously aligned with Mr Buhari often resulted in them defecting to his All Progressives Congress (APC).

Perhaps the biggest and most recent of such realignments came on August 8 when Godswill Akpabio, a PDP stalwart, moved to the APC.

Prior to the move, Mr Akpabio held talks with Mr Buhari, and later with other APC leaders, behind closed doors.

Mr Anyim was also once questioned by the anti-graft EFCC, but detectives did not immediately say whether they found anything incriminating he did while in office and no charges were filed.

Some politicians have been accused of moving to the APC to escape EFCC prosecution, but Mr Anyim assured that he was not joining the APC under any immediate circumstances.

“The idea that I met with the president to lay the groundwork for my defection does not arise at all,” he emphasised.

“I have been friends with the president for a long time and I will continue to be for a long time,” Mr Anyim added. “We can be friends without aligning politically.”



Mr Anyim said he had arrived in Port-Harcourt for the PDP national convention on Saturday.

“I came into Port-Harcourt this evening to participate in our national convention tomorrow,” he said.

He is free to go if that is what he wants, there is no big deal about that. My only question if he defects to APC will he make things work in this country, because I am more concern about the Project Nigeria, Not APC or PDP, whichever party that take Nigeria to the Promise land is well and fine by me, for now APC has failed and it doesnt seem like they have anything to offer, they should quietly step aside and let try another

Presidential aspirant, Senator David Mark, yesterday urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) delegates to the National Convention of the party in Port Harcourt, Rivers State to vote for him as the candidate that would usher in peace, unity and prosperity in the nation.

Welcoming delegates to the convention, Senator Mark Senator Mark Senator Mark urged party faithful to be guided by good reasons in their choice of the presidential candidate of the party, saying that “those who were fair weather friends yesterday would not be different tomorrow.”

“We know those who are good party men and women. We know those who absconded when we had challenges. We have rebuilt and rebranded the party. They are welcome back. But it will be unjustified for them to inherit the product of our struggle,” he added.

“I’m well equipped and prepared for this assignment. My blueprint is designed to address grey areas and imbalances in our national life.”

In a press statement signed by his media aide Paul Mumeh and made available to The Nation, refuted the insinuations in some quarters that he had stepped down for another aspirant, saying “my credentials and wealth of experience puts me in a very good stead to win. I know other aspirants would step down and vote for me. I’m the aspirant to beat.

“Our programme will give every citizen a sense of belonging. No one should be oppressed or marginalised in our country.”

Gainful employment through industrialization and agriculture, functional Education, improved health care system among others, he said, would be given priority if he was elected.

Senator Mark added that he has traversed the length and breadth of Nigeria and have come to the inevitable conclusion that “all we need is good governance anchored on equity and justice for all.”

He stated that peace and unity would be an offspring of justice and equity

But unfortunately to them the govt is making progress despite all they have done and are still doing to frustrate the govt.

Saraki and co do not have the interest of Nigeria at heart but their selfish interest is what dictates for them.

Imagine a senate president and the speaker of the house of assembly were absent during the independence celebeation.

And Saraki was bold enough to tell Nigerians that he was in Kwara when the govt he is part of was celebrating the nation's indepence as if he was ignorant of the date and event.

Only for him to return to the same Abuja he ran away from few days ago to start leading unlawful protest.

What's so special about the independence celebration, is it in the constitution that he most attend, go ahead and impeach them for not attending the independence celebration

You don't need to explain, you did what you felt was good at that time, so when the tribunal upturn the elections you don't need to feel bad, do you think the federal government will get involved, Osun is gone to PDP, PMB can't do anything about it because the whole world is watching, that elections was filled with some much anomalies. Which will be corrected by the court

. Bros i disagree with you, what makes you think tambuwal would be an easy ride for the lifeless to victory. Especially,atiku and saraki, there's a general perception about this duo hence it will be more difficult for them. Pdp deligates across the country are to elect who will flag bear and not river's pdp alone.
