Kazikazi: Now You are talking. In most of African nations, corruption is too big, that's why these policies of central bank couldn't favour ordinary folks.Only dangote who is already very rich was getting dollars at a cheap rate....subsidized by the same ordinary poor folks.
And worse of it all,the poor folks were actually buying the same dollars which the dangote might have gotten cheap and resell it at black markets. It was a scam. Those policies could only work in Botswana or Switzerland or Singapore with their almost zero corruption The bolded is half truth. Dangote got dollar at a cheap rate for his refinery which is dear to the Federal Government. There is the import and Export window exchange rate (Nafex) and not only Dangote but all businessmen who are only importing necessary items access it. |

theenchanter: these submissions reek of ignorance.
CBN doesn't have enough dollar to supply every Nigerian need and also, in a bid to stem over circulation of dollar, CBN created special windows for those that genuinely needs the dollar, known as PTA and BTA.
Depending on what a person needs dollar for, one can walk into a CBN branch in his/her state to obtain any of them at official rates. I swear down 😂. They speak with such confidence but with half knowledge. |

For y'all saying Tinubu government will be better, hear this A drug dealer will never have any good intentions for you unless you're one of his gang members, someone who has spent trillions just to be president by all means possible won't be accountable to you. Nigerians should bid bye to their fundamental freedom if Tinubu gets sworn in. Every arm of government will be bought over and there would be no one to stand for the common man. Evolution now... Asiwaju is very organized, just check out the last campaign. He has private sector experience and would coordinate his Government differently. |

theenchanter: all states receive allocations from federal account each month, including the 9 oil producing states. After that, the 9 oil producing states receive 13% of profits made from oil for that month, this run into billions of naira monthly, after the billions they got from FAAC.
How certain are u that they won't mismanage 30% when given to them? And if u're a Nigerian from let's say ebonyi state, would u want the government to reduce ur allocation simply because they want to increase derivatives?
The "many" that clamoured for 30% derivatives in restructuring are the leaders from Niger delta, no one else. Don't forget that most of these oil producing states don't even invest in the production of oil & gas, they didnt even put a dime in it, they just want 30% of it when they're not into it despite the fact that the FG is the one bearing every risks pertaining the oil over there. The allocation thing is a model I'm not totally comfortable with. But I can't complain much now cos I can hardly think of a way out at the moment. When Kano grew their Groundnut business themselves in those days (1960's), they had the incentive to invest in the business themselves because they received the proceeds and not the Nigerian republic. However, I'm not naive to compare Groundnut Pyramids to Crude Oil. So I get your point as well. |

rvp20182: Idiot nature left oil under their feet Foolish talk, and so what? If they are corrupt we have to be careful with giving them the oil or above 13% because at the moment the Federal Government is usually the center of concentration of Nigerians than their state Governors and state Senate or local Governments. If we must increase their share from 13%, then we must create a framework to make all Governors more accountable. So I agree with you, that we must increase their share but we must create the framework. |

theenchanter: u agree to what? Even if the 9 oil producing states get 30%, it'll never be enough for some. Some states are doing wonders with their 13%, some aren't.
Don't forget that it's just a derivative from FAAC aside the allocations they get every month. Not minding that they have NDDC, created & funded by fed govt until that body became a cankerworm of corruption.
Nigeria does not operate like the UAE where Emirates own the oil found in their Emirates or each Emirates operate like a country on its own and not a sub-nation.
And Nigeria does not operate like Kenya too, we prioritize some states above others here. You have a point too. Although what rvp2018 is asking for is what many have clamoured for in Nigeria with the famous term "Restructuring". The problem like you highlighted is corruption. The fear of leaving the oil wealth in the hands of corrupt Niger Delta Governors. I still believe something at the middle of both positions can be worked out which would be better than just the 13% derivatives. |

rvp20182: It oil producing state..imagine if they kept 30 percent of oil revenues.Nigeria should allow oil producing states to keep large share of oil proceeds....they suffer most from oil pollution. In Kenya you keep 30 percent as local community....Nigeria the best they do is 13 percent. There are State in Nigeria that are incredibly blessed and should look like Dubai. What happens crooks in Abuja takes everything..local community sabotage oil and pipelines..production reduces..it race to bottom.Nigeria oil producing states should keep 30 to 50 percent of oil proceeds..they will guard it..they won't sabotage it. I agree. |

famzynet: The world does not work like that . One cannot give what one does not possess. Nigeria's problem is corruption. How do you expect Tinubu to tackle same process that brought him in? Buhari is failure itself and you don't use failure as a yard stick to judge ones performance. Well, Buhari as a military General brought in discipline and fought corruption in 1983 but in the democratic setting in 2015, it was tough. Democratic setting requires great institutions and reforms to fight corruption. Asiwaju is good at reforms and setting up institutions that last beyond his tenure. Peter Obi is not more corrupt-free than Buhari was. |

Efewestern: AA still wouldn't have won Southern Nigeria. I can't say for South Easterners, but most people share the tribal sentiments (Fulani to Fulani transition is DOA). Worst case scenario, the turnup in several southern states will be very low.
There have been dissatisfaction in middle belt already as per the herdsmen crisis. All BAT just needed to do is to pick a middle belt Christian candidate. Afterall, the Northerners voted AA despite shetima in the ticket.
What pre-election matters is acceptable at this stage? I believe the other pre-election matters can be looked into even though I don't believe any of them have merit. 1) Drug Case: Has been dismissed with prejudice by the U.S court already. Case long dead. Also, Tinubu was not under a fine for any criminal activity, rather the U.S have the right to seize accounts (where the account is under judgement and not necessarily the person) if they suspect foul play. There, Tinubu received money from a Nigerian politician Akande for them to open a business account in Lagos but no evidence Tinubu (who was in Lagos at the time in Mobil) knew about Akande's business in America. Hence U.S could only seize a certain amount according to their law and return the rest to Tinubu. 2) Conflict in School Certificate: Have been dismissed since 2003. 3) Perjury: Tinubu once had a diplomatic passport in Guinea and did not consider that good enough for him to say he once had the citizenship of Guinea. I see no real issue here. So that's the summary of the pre-election matters left I believe. |

Efewestern: Can't PDP fund aggrieved APC presidential contestants to contest the double nomination ? Is this possible in the eyes of the law?
Read the new electoral law and i knew immediately that PDP lacked the power to sue APC on pre-election matters. It would make no sense because that senatorial contest held since last year already and Shettima was not part of it. So what would the aggrieved APC Politician's case be based on? |
Politics › Re: Supreme Court Dismisses PDP’s Suit Challenging ‘Double Nomination’ Of Shettima by GeneralDae: 10:42am On May 26, 2023 |
Natural2Heal: If Tinubu is going to lost at election tribunal, the double nomination's case is the real solid ground. The other petitions are frivolous and irrelevant.
Since Supreme court has made judgement in favour of Tinubu, he will remain Nigerian president in the next 4 years. Of a truth this double nomination thing was their strongest case because courts hardly play with double nomination. If SC has dismissed this then I dunno what the opposition wants to pin their hope on. |

rvp2018: Sounds like you're describing a modern thriving economy that is attracting foreign investment - and has managed to thrive - despite having no minerals.
Now let move to the primitive OIL BASED Nigeria economy.
Now when will Shell Nigeria move out of Nigeria.
After Shell and BP - we have MTN and Airtel - dominating your telcom right?
How much does Shell, BP, MTN and Airtel - repatriate abroad from Nigeria - BILLIONS. Good. So despite all these foreign firms you have mentioned that are operating in Nigeria, 7 Out of the best 10 listed companies by assets are still owned by Nigerians with Nigerians having majority shares. In the oil and gas sector, NNPCL is a big brother there together with shell. NNPCL is currently drilling in the lake chad basin (though not the best of moves at this time). There is also Seplat owned by Nigerians but employed a white man as CEO. The biggest gas project in Nigeria (AKK gas pipeline) is currently being constructed by a Nigerian firm as well and totally financed by NNPCL. So you see, investors can come but not dominate. |

rvp2018: First we have very few Indians. Maybe those who come as tourist nowadays. We have 5th generation Kenyan-Indians who find India alien - and dont repatriate their money - they invest, live and die in kenya - they speak swahili- are proud kenyans- and so will their kids. You have indians fresh from the boats - those dont come to kenya because it impossible for them to get work permits.
Your fresh Indians send your dollars to India - including those Dangotes has shipped in thousands to run his factories.
Secondly Kenyan-India since 1967 were eased out from retail & wholesaling (dukawallas) and moved on to engineering & manufacturing. They've made money there - those rich kenyan-indians dominate Africa manufacturing - Manu Chandarias, Shahs.
Kenya banking, financial, name almost every sector it is dominated by Black Africans. Outside few areas like Parklands in Nairobi - you wont see an Indian in kenya.
As for whites and other new immigrants - coming to start up tech business - in collaboration with kenyans - we want more of them. These are the richest people in Kenya. The only Kenyan black in that picture is a politician.
