The UK is notorious for low salaries, especially in the Anglophone world. Immigrant ambitious nurses hone their experience in the UK and port to the US or Australia (which White British nurses have done). Nigerian nurses should do the same. At least, to write NCLEX-RN no go hard compared to their counterparts in Nigeria who have to slug out the visas to South Africa or Kenya. In her words;Isn't that the norm in Western countries, and the wider developed world? Abi are Nigerian men whose wives are nurses doing my money is mine, but your money is our money? How fast the tide has turned. God bless Gender Equality and Ndi ifenemenisi ![]() |
Western liberal politicians and their supporters would drum up support for increased immigration, but will not provide the necessary infrastructure to support such an increment. Na so Singaporean government then was issuing out PRs to any bloke who applied till the natives revolted by voting for the opposition. The same reason: infrastructure was strained and housing became so expensive. |
Raalsalghul:I rather be called that than give my money to ungrateful people. Those women should go and make their own money. We are in the era of gender equality. |
Paraman:While true, it is not a good way to assess earnings as those Nigerians doing menial jobs in the UK are spending in pounds and pay with their bodies. It is better doing a white collar job in Nigeria than menial job in the UK. White collar job in Nigeria to white collar job in the UK, NOT white collar job in Nigeria to menial job in the UK. This was Ms Remi's focal point. |
You know what, I was thinking about the blue collar jobs industry vs the white collar labour market few days ago. While it is true that certified blue collar jobs can pay so high, the practitioners pay for it with their bodies. That is, they age quickly and face physical stress and damage, and even danger. If not, why do the upper middle class or elites don't have their children doing the same? French politicians will say the Ecole education system discriminates, yet send their children to Grand Ecoles. Some politicians in the US will say rather than do an MBA, enrol in an apprenticeship. Apprenticeship is not bad in its entirety; Germany, Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland are good examples of how they can provide a standard of living for its practitioners. That said, for black African migrants, to fully benefit from apprenticeship, they must be certified, and people should stop converting pounds/dollars earnings to naira. You are not spending naira in the UK. So, stick to cost of living analysis in the UK. Don't say I am earning 500K naira daily because of kini kon. Your expenses are in pounds. Stick to it. |
Nazgul:Thanks for the modus operandi. |
Nazgul:Are you dating? If yes, how is the ideology being implemented? |
It should be possible. Gene editing has the potential to cure (different from treatment) many diseases. The issue for Big Pharma is how to structure the industry for one-off and one-time cures rather than recurring treatments. But yes, CRISPR and, who knows, a newer technique can cure HIV. It is just that the Chinese are not focused on HIV, if not, I envisage them to begin research into it. But if the money is right, Chinese will do dive in. ![]() |
RecentHistory:Why do you believe he is Igbo? What if he is from Benue? Or even Edo or Kogi?7 When you were taught Social Studies in secondary school (assuming you went to a good school, attended classes and paid attention), did your teachers not teach you that there are over 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria? |
airsaylongcome:Interesting. |
pansophist:Well, economic opportunity is the major reason our people emigrate, aka japa. As it is, the West is the best place to thrive or get economic opportunities as a black African migrant. As for other African countries, their replicas exist in Nigeria. The major issue is security if not a place like Taraba comes across to me as a Zambia. So, rather than japa to Zambia, one should relocate to Taraba. |
lastkingsman:Probably because he was the one who met the requirements. Our people have poor GRE stats compared to Chinese. Mainland Chinese have higher average scores in the Verbal section than we do. Also, cognate work experience, which is a key component of the admission process. Asian economies have grown vis-a-vis their companies, so Asian applicants have real life experiences at fast-growing companies. This means they have enough opportunities back home even if they don't find work in the UK. Malaysian, Singaporean and now Vietnamese grads are good examples. From 2006 - 2014, Nigeria had the same, but in 2015, the same people campaigned and voted for Buhari because he promised to phight kwarruption! |
pansophist:I see. Na small small I go learn this thing. |
MONEY247:It is like that everywhere with varying degrees. Men go a great lengths to satisfy the wants and needs of women, even if they don't really like them. However, this is changing with the spread of Ndi ifenemenisi. The argument by these lads is that since we are in the era of gender equality, women should work for their money and not expect free lunches. Rightfully so. Rights come with responsibility. On the other hand, a significant proportion of men are not really appreciated even after spending money on women (with free mind o). The same woman whom you give money today would accuse you publicly of being stingy. This was my case when a female classmate in the university went round soliciting money for her birthday, which I contributed to. We were not really close sef, but as classmates, I contributed and I could recall my contribution was the highest that day. Only for some weeks after that, the same girl publicly, in front of other classmates accused me of being stingy and tight-hand. I felt so embarrassed. Another one from secondary school called me one hot afternoon like that for a small loan. Knowing how dishonest Nigerians can be with "I will you back", I sent half of the money as a gift with the narration "don't pay back". Weeks later, the same girl said I was stingy because I declined to contribute to one investment scheme she was peddling amongst her friends. Ever since, I don't dole out money to women I am not biologically related to without ensuring it is worked for. You must work for your money. If you don't like it, go and make yours. We are in the era of gender equality. |
Bongadu:I am not stingy, rather, I am frugal. I was trained from childhood that people should work for their money, no free lunch, especially from non-blood relations. I give out money but the reason should be justified and logical. If I am to dole out money without any reason, it is on my terms. Anyone who doesn't like it should work for his/her money. I did not steal mine. |
pansophist:Why is she insisting he calls her? What stops her, since she is the one interested, from calling him? At least, she should show geninue desire and interest. Since ladies especially 21st century version like to parrot "show workings" during talking stage (whatever this means), they too should show areas of concentration. |
ufotty2001:That is nice of him. I appreciate his honesty. It is an anonymous forum, so I would like to know more. Is he married or divorced? How many children does he have? Could he be on student loans? What speciality of nursing is he into? What rank is he on? Twenty-five years as a nurse in the US means he is not less than 45 years old. There are a lot of questions to ask, honestly. |
GUNITGuy:I researched on rubber plantation, that stuff has a long gestation period. The best plan is to research into superior seeds. Also, it needs the government's support to grow as an industry. |
Mindlog:Bwhahahahahahahhahahahahhahhahahhahahhahahahahha Na MSc Finance from Huddersfield him wan use work for City of London? ![]() I would rather be an illiterate than spend a kobo of my parents' money attending such an institution. If it is not Imperial College London, London School of Economics, Oxbridge or any of KCL or UCL (these days, both ciome across as pure water universities), I no do. I am a black immigrant, so I am not fazed by St Andrews or Durham or Exeter, although those are good schools. Better Covenant or Baze, be a good boy and marry the daughter of a rich man. ![]() |
I take it to be a skit. Number one mistake is saving that long for a gift. This relationship thing go hard for me. Maybe it is because I am not a fan of giving people money without any justified or logical reason. |
pansophist:The US and her All die na die. The West hasn't come to terms with the reality that its hegemony is fading away. I urge the Chinese to stand strong and steadfastly. A defeated Russia means doom for China and the rest of the Global South. |
nearline:The logic does not follow. If he is right, why are the universities lamenting decreased revenues and are on the brink of financial collapse? Aids money has been cut ever since Theresa May. Defence funding has been increased because of the Ukrainian issue. However, past Conservative administrations have cut down on funding for higher education while imposing a cap on tuition rates for citizens. The universities have to find an alternative. Yes, it has been abused as a leeway to settle in the UK. Maybe White British should come to terms of what their country is and its future. Politicians are only responding to what the electorate wants them to do. |
Jewessgratitud3:The mistake he made. Don't convert earnings or gifts to any currency. Take what you see as face value. This is the same mistake most Nigerians who japa'd recently tend to do - convert earnings in the abroad to naira. Tomorrow, they will come and argue with me that a skyscraper cleaner in the UK earns more than a bank manager in Nigeria. It is the friend in the diaposra I blame. Not everyone in Nigeria should be sent money. The friend too in Nigeria should stop converting dollars arbitrarily. P.S. This is assuming your story is real as you are fond of creating funny stories depending on which side of the bed you woke up from. |
cococandy:Fair argument. But when people accuse their blood relations of entitlement, I wonder the kind of relationship they had before living in different parts of the world. |
Stevenbright:That is a hasty assumption. Why do you believe the brother would not pay back? Not everyone is dishonest, even to their blood relations. |
79733139:Including blood relations? Wow! So, if I have the resources and my blood brother wishes to buy land, should I decline to give him the money? |
ufotty2001:I am curious, what did he say was the reason for his refusal? How many time has he visited Nigeria and the general family in the past 25 years? How close are you both, before he relocated and while he was working? |
Ilekokonit:Nice read. Maybe it is just me, but one thing I would recommend for new age black immigrants is to see the West as a means to an end, not the end. The ideology that we relocated to the West and should die put is entirely misplaced. These people's ancestors went to Africa to scoop resources and toil our people. They did it to enrich themselves. The same ideology should be applied when we move to their lands. Use what they have to get what we want. Since it would be hard to get a working visa to the UAE (higher wages and lower taxes) as a Nigerian passport holder, use the British passport to enjoy that privilege and earn good money with the aim of resettling elsewhere. I think our people are just too comfortable being in the West. The Chinese don't think like this. Although Indians behave like us, they don't like or align with us. So? Use the West to get what you want. |
Gboyeee:That is not true. These universities depend on immigrants to fund themselves. The British government has constantly cut funding for higher education leaving universities to charge foreigners very high rates compared to citizens. The government has also placed a cap on tuition fees for British citizens. So, to support themselves, the universities have to focus on recruiting foreigners and charging them excessively. The top universities charge more than thrice the rate for international students compared to citizens. These schools target wealthy and middle class households in Asia. The lowly ranked universities (who are the most affected) focus on developing countries such as Pakistan, India and Nigeria. With the current immigration rules, these lowly ranked universities are forced to cut down on departments, employees and if continued would have to close entirely or merge with other struggling universities. For instance, at Imperial College London, the majority of international students are Chinese, and they dominate the engineering and sciences departments. In LSE or Cambridge for social sciences, the majority also come from Asia - Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam and the oga kpata kpata China. Their parents pay a shitload of money to sponsor them to those universities. |
justmondris:Actually, there are many African students schooling in China, mostly on scholarship. One of UI's top graduates did her MSc and PhD in a Chinese university and currently works in China as an assistant professor. However, the majority of Nigerians who opted for the UK are not interested in China because of: a) Language b) the Chinese labour market is even tougher and highly competitive c) China doesn't have a path to naturalisation. However, for those who are interested in actual studies, and especially in engineering and computer sciences, I would recommend China as the schools there are well grounded in that specialty compared to the mushroom universities in the UK. |
tensazangetsu20:Guy, As much London is a top financial centre, those jobs are extremely selective and meant for the best and brightest, plus children of mom and dad's friends. In this current economic and immigration climate, anyone who wishes to work in the City or Canary Wharf MUST study at a top ten or, I dare say, top five universities in the UK. This applies to MBA as well. People get jobs right after their MBAs, including those who even studied at INSEAD or HEC Paris, but as noted, these are top universities. I have mentioned how top universities affect job applications, but was criticised. Na the same thing I tell one Chinese student recently who attends a not too well known university but applies to top Japanese financial companies. Apply to smaller or less known companies, work there for at least three years and apply to the big boys. For entry level, companies are extremely selective because the number of applications is high. They apply several selective requirements, and more so for immigrants. Finance on its own is an elitist industry even in Nigeria. The top universities or nothing. For the UK, this means LSE, Imperial College, Oxbridge, Exeter, Durham, Warwick, Nottingham, London Business School and the likes. In Nigeria, first and second generation federal universities alongside top private universities. |
Mindlog:Which school did he attend for his MSc in Finance? |
