2shure:Sorry, but apart from the bold, none of those skills qualify you to be issued a work visa as a Nigerian while in Nigeria. Your best route is a study visa. But 10 million cannot run it unlike few years ago. |
Whichever route you choose, get at least five years work experience in Nigeria, then apply for NIW, as study route to the US doesn't guarantee you a legal stay. NIW is definitive process, while H1B is lottery based, aka tumbo-tumbo. Regarding professions, both finance or accounting (there's a dearth of qualified accountants in the US) and tech are good. But regarding the former, you need to do your CPA. For the latter, you need to be very good to beat the competition. The competition for jobs isn't even the problem in the US, but getting an authorised visa to work. Studying in the US doesn't guarantee you thar authorisation. In summary, NIW over study visa. |
2shure:Sorry to be a bearer of bad news, but 10 million would not go that far if your target country is a developed one. Also, to truly enjoy living in the abroad, you will need to get a good job, which is tied to having relevant skills the economy of that country desires. If you have those skills and pretty young, it is a good one. P.S. If you can japa without selling your properties, better. |
Interesting thread. Hope it gets to the front page. I have read tales of such from foreign folks; Singaporeans, British and Americans, but not from black folks. There is an ongoing DINK (dual income, no kids) trend across a significant proportion of folks in developed countries. But I am yet to read one DINK by black couples, whether Black British or African Americans. But OP sef, with your marriage advocacy threads, I wish to ask, are you married? And how many children do you have? |
dkidd:The majority of Nigeria's cocoa is cultivated and harvested in the Southwest. To make an entrance into the zone by communicating with farmers and industry players, one needs to speak the language. An alternative is the Akwa /Cross region, where Igbo, Efik and Pidgin are spoken. |
tensazangetsu20:This boy 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 But no be lie. When folks in the yukay were showcasing themselves in videos, man, the faces I saw weren't palatable. Men wey Buhari's economy don panelbeat tire. |
BareFacedLies:She's right. Men offer commitment, but if a woman wants sex, she'd get it. It's a global phenomenon and worse amongst Nigerians as the preek of a Nigerian man is cheaper than one mold of Akara. |
ednut1:I was thinking aloud sef few days ago, the way I see it, it's actually Nigerian men who cannot do without marriage especially at an older age. The way our men dey complain tells me they won't be able to stay without women than women staying without men. |
Zonefree:Patronising prostitutes is expensive in the abroad. Thirty minutes with an escort costs an equivalent of $100 where I'm and I was told that was even pre-COVID rates. Na person wey get proof of funds to repay go dey indulge in such? You want to use your earnings from care jobs to patronise sex workers? ![]() |

Kini kon kini kon Nigerian men are hotcakes in the abroad. Thank God dem don use their eyes see am. People wey Buhari economy knack them suffer want to get chicks in the UK, Germany and US simply because black men are loved?! Whereas the black men here are African American men o. Nigerian men wey worwor with big fat potbelly and sufferhead face. Then add Buhari's battering and the need to repay Proof of Funds? At the same time, Rishi Sunak wants to finish them with immigration policies! You lots better apologise to Nigerian women because las las they're the ones you people would date, fvck and marry. |
OP, Your wife is a beautiful woman. You sef na handsome man. Happy Married Life to you both. I wish una prosperity, fecundity and longevity. |
IbeOkehie:To be fair though, I write from my own perspective. I have little connections with my extended families (on both sides). I don't plan to build any house in Nigeria as my parents have built enough. I have just two siblings (all grown and done with higher education). I'm not married neither do I have children. So maybe, I am "elitist" in my views even though I don't have an elitist background or upbringing. But then, it's the reason I advocate for young people, especially young men, not to marry anyhow and born plenty children. It's the reason I kick against having children out of wedlock. Life is hard already, especially for black African males, people shouldn't make it harder. I would be surprised if you return to Nigeria. I understand the aspect of living in a place where people look like you. But last I checked, Nigeria isn't the only black dominated country. There exists other places which are safer and quieter. The die-put-mentality-in-Nigeria, especially held by Igbos, has to change. |
folake4u:One even vowed that I've never been outside Nigeria whereas my location is clearly stated on my profile. Chai! Nna mehn! |
MrBrownJay1:Good luck to the high earners there. They -(perpetrators) should please remain in the West o. But I'm curious, is this also rampant in Switzerland? That country has lots of wealthy people, it's safe and has strict immigration rules. |
udomonday:I wish OP the very best in his quest. Honestly, I really do wish him the best. However, I don't support people of his age, especially high earners, to relocate and later go below what they were doing in Nigeria. It's just my belief system. I believe there has to be a time to enjoy one's fruit of his labour. Additionally, as much as OP has relocated, let's fear God when he and his supporters say "a cleaner in the West lives more comfortably or earns more than a banker or career professional in Nigeria". That's a statement I will ALWAYS kick against. A regional manager of a bank in Nigeria is above whatever cleaner in any developed country. |
Mcslize:https://www.nairaland.com/7650379/points-consider-before-after-japa That's an insight to my views regarding japa. I have been largely consistent with my stance. |
NuCypher:Thank you for this perspective. It's a new one to me. |
Treadway:Honestly, I'm stunned that I'm now seen as an anti-japa advocate. Truly, such is life. I guess most humans love to hear what they like to hear rather than proper logical analysis. Me wey don garner enemies because I fought against actual anti-japa Nairalanders and have posts upon posts on the A - Z of japa. I wonder where McSlize was when I was criticising Dasparrow and Cap28 or Redsun or 50Calibre. In fact, one of most recent threads was centered on criticising APC supporters for being anti-japa. Chai! Daris God o ![]() |
lastkingsman:Having sexual rendevous with such ladies is better done on neutral grounds, not via social media. One, they tend to be more expensive than usual. Two, they bring brash attitudes. It is common across the country. Third, the sex might not be worth it. So, preferably meet her on neutral grounds. If you do meet her on social media, state your terms and conditions. Maybe it is because I am a very private person and detest people who do like being in the camera and too much publicity. |
Another Nigerian man who wants to buy genuine desire. ![]() So, if she had agreed to your conversion attempt, you would have converted to Islam because of woman wey still dey school? Looking at the history between you and her, it is obvious you are older than she is by at least seven years. With that, she is better off marrying a practicing Muslim, even if he is way older than you. Nice calculation from her. She is a smart girl. |
MrBrownJay1:Partly agree since it is the West. There are some places to own certain cars. Such cannot happen in Japan or Singapore. The East over the West. |
GloriousGbola:Yes. Go straight to the point and state that for her to get 2 million from him, she would have to spend the weekend (sexually) with him. Nigerian men have to be explicit in this age of consent. Making her happy by buying this and that AND paying for sex is double expenditure when the aim is just one. It is a reason I like hookup girls' honesty. Go straight to the point. |
sageb:You should know the context of "Ikpa". It is not the road. As for the tale about the Hall 6, no idea. I do my things discreetly. |
Proserpina:She is the who went to the media to complain and weep crocodile tears. So she gets to be reprimanded the most. I wonder why she thinks a Nigerian man would offer 2 million naira to a random lady just like that. |
Nasri100:Even the sex itself is not free as "free sex" comes with lots of conditions and commitment issues. So better paid sex - straight to the point. Both parties are happy. Imagine how much this nigga spent for the outing and all that shit, that cost is enough for a hookup with hot girls in Lekki. And those Lekki girls will f*** the day light out of you!Actually, nothing wrong with taking a girl out, but the belief that sex must come out of it is misplaced and foolhardy. I am a big advocate of people exercising their right to choose. Every woman has the right to choose whether she wants to have sex with a man or not even if he spent heaven and earth on her. Even sex workers have that right, and I fully expect women to exercise it and in return, I respect it. The aspect of spending on her and then paying service charge is double expenditure. I see sex as a business transaction, so I rather spend once than twice. People should learn to apply basic economics principles to their lives. |
pafun:She wants a rich boyfriend. She did not even offer to work for the company or businesses owed by a supposed rich boyfriend. She just wants to be taken care of. Is money picked off the ground? Please cut Naija boys some slack. |
seunmsg:Wonder what quality of education you got while growing up. Sam Amuka is not an Igbo man. This ignorance that anyone East of Ore is Igbo is very stoopid of most of you people. https://www.nairaland.com/2787129/meet-founder-vanguard-newspaper80-yr-old |
stanluiz:I think that was a loophole Donald Trump tried taking advantage of by befriending Russia, but Democrats and other elites no gree. From a purely racial POV, aligning with Russia is the best. Let's not lie, the fight/gang-up against China is one to protect the white man's dominance over world's affairs. So, China's rise to the top is not accepted, just as Japan's rise was thwarted even though she was an However, that time has passed. The Russians would rather trust the Chinese than its fellow white dominated countries. The only fear is that upon Putin's eventual demise and exit, some Russians who are so Westernised would not concede by betraying China. I am pretty sure elites who were in love with anything Western has seen the back side of the clique, such that their assets are stripped off and stolen. But as it is, Russia is more dependent on China than the other way round. Finally, the Russians should not become modern-day Judas Iscariots in the future. |
sageb:Going to Maitama is futile, crowded and somehow competitive, na to target Tropicana and anywhere around the numerous tertiary institutions in the state. Ikpa, there are strategies to this thing, which I cannot divulge in public. ![]() |
Jorussia:I am curious, how and why? Shouldn't an increase in the value of the naira benefit people who want to study and live abroad? |
Special thanks to Treadway! I hold nothing against OP's thread or his relocation. His choice, which I respect. However, I refuse to hold the notion that a toilet cleaner in Australia lives a better life than a permanent staff banker in Nigeria. The other day, Nairalanders argued that being a skyscraper cleaner in the UK is better than a bank manager in Nigeria. That is totally nonsensical! I don't look at earnings conversion as they are pointless, but professions and standard of living. Anyone can decide to move from being a doctor to cleaner in the abroad, no problem. But don't come online to state that someone flourishing in his/her career in Nigeria is worse than the cleaner in the abroad. It does not follow. As I argue, you compare oranges to oranges, not oranges to apples. Compare the cleaner in the abroad to a cleaner in Nigeria, NOT a cleaner in the abroad to a career professional in Nigeria. A truck pusher in Nigeria who moves to become a cleaner in the abroad has won the lottery and improved. However, a seasoned professional who does the same has not done well. We have to be honest in what we say. |
