CodeTemplar:DHL is faster than Japan Post. What Japan Post would deliver in one week, DHL does in three days, especially when the receiver is outside the country. That said, we cannot compare JP to NIPOST as both exist in vastly different countries in every ramification of life. |
CodeTemplar:NIPOST was considerably cheaper than DHL (according to their rating book). FedEx was about 22K (I sent documents to Norway), while UPS was 20, 100 naira to send to Japan. However, I have never sent documents via NIPOST as I dread anything publicly managed. That is, I don't like patronising the services of a governmental agency or organisation unless it is the only option. Where there is a private alternative, I use it no matter the costs. But costs have nothing to do with competency as DHL Japan is more expensive than Japan Post, yet the latter delivers although a few days slower than the former. |
CodeTemplar:NIPOST is very incompetent and thoroughly slow when patronised compared to DHL, FedEx or UPS. I say this as someone who was forced to utilise its service when I was expecting the Certificate of Eligibility by the Japanese immigration bureau. The policy by the immigration bureau states that the COE would be delivered by the public postal service of Nigeria since the dispatching party in Japan was by the Japan Post (a publicly owned service). JP did her part, but it took more than one month for NIPOST to acknowledge that it received a package from Japan Post. Eventually, after one month and two weeks, I got notified that the COE had arrived. Upon collection, the officials asked for egunje aka bribe, which I declined as I told them in clear terms I no go get money as I was planning a trip. At that time, it was useless as Japan locked its borders due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, I never had an issue sending documents to Japan because I utilised DHL all along. One week, and my documents arrived at the university. When I re-applied to the same university and went through the same process of receiving the COE, I specifically told the school to inform the immigration bureau that NIPOST's workers were on strike and the COE should not be sent via it, but through DHL or UPS or FedEx. Expectedly, the COE arrived in less than two weeks via UPS. In fact, my instincts told me to call the office in my Nigerian city on the day of arrival to check whether the package had arrived (the school informed me that UPS would be used), and I was told the package was arriving that afternoon. I got to the office and got it. UPS workers never asked for a bribe, and the process was fast! I explained it in the Japan immigration thread that no one should use NIPOST. Those who used NIPOST regretted it, and those who heeded to my warnings got their packages delivered swiftly via DHL. Gerrard59: Gerrard59:Publicly run services, especially in less homogenous countries, tend to be incompetent, slow and inefficient. Japan Post works swiftly largely because the Japanese are competent and the country is homogenous. No one asks for bribe because na dem dem. Due to the frequency of earthquakes, they understand the importance of swift deliveries of packages. I regretted the day I used NIPOST, just I regretted using the public bus company owned by the state government. When I changed to God is Good Motors, I never encountered any problem of any sort. Everything should be privatised. Publicly run services, especially in demographically heterogeneous countries, are inefficient, incompetent and corrupt. Privatise everything! Entrench the free market! cc: IbeOkehie |
Well, the OP is largely correct as modern-day women are still hypergamous even though they now earn good money and have greater freedoms. The benefits most men would get have been reduced, with nothing to replace those lost benefits. You compete with women in the same school admissions and labour market, etc. There are some industries and roles men cannot even break into simply because women have occupied everywhere. So, women have reaped these benefits WHILE maintaining hypergamy - where as the man, you still have to be at the top of your game financially and societal status. One would then ask himself, what is the benefit of being a man? Only wealthy men benefit from being men; other men don't share whatever so-called patriarchal benefits feminazis claim male folks enjoy. In conclusion, the only benefit men derive from marriage is having children within a two-parent household, as wedlock does more harm to both genders and the greater society. Also, having children from different women whom you as the man are not married to is absolutely nonsensical and financially draining. No one should mention sex, as many married men don't even get sex from their wives, and when they do, it is timetable-based. Who makes this timetable? The woman. The reason married men patronise sex workers more than even single men, and I am willing to bet that sexually active married men get less sex while being married than single men who are equally sexually active. So, where is the benefit? ![]() |
Zooposki:That is the problem I have with Nigerian men - they are the ones who complain that marriage largely benefits women, which I agree with. But they are same persons who are itching or rushing to get married EVEN more than women. See the ones who japa'd recently, all are whining of kini kon kini kon how women there are not interested in them. Apparently, it looks like Nigerian men desire marriage more than their women, but shame no gree them accept. |
Zooposki:Only happening in Korea, and very little of such in Japan or other Asian countries. Although all East Asian societies are suffering from low birth and marriage rates, their causes vary. Korea's issue is multifaceted and terrible as it imbibes Confucian and Western cultures and practices both to the extreme. Well, the future of the country will be seen in the coming decades as the population reduces, the pension system begins to crack, immigrants with varying cultures are invited, and a roaring North Korea is abut them. |
Image123:Typical Nigerian who suddenly loves the country after voting for an incompetent feudalist in the name of Buhari. In end the case, nowhere in the letter by Landmark was two weeks stated. Instead, the LASG mentioned seven days. Regarding the bold, I did not support Peter Obi to win the election as I knew he would not win. Not everyone who questions the present government's policies is Peter Obi's supporter, and even they (PO's supporters) have the right to question government's policies. https://www.nairaland.com/7225545/why-peter-obi-step-down |
Image123:You could not answer a simple question. This implies it is out of place to order the vacation and subsequent demolition of a multimillion dollar project within a week. |
udomonday:The original plan did not involve Landmark resort areas. That is Paul's first and main grouse. The second is the short notice to vacate the property. The third is that he obtained the licence to develop the property in 2007 meanwhile the project was conceived more than forty years ago, and first approved by Jonathan. |
Image123:Could you please mention other places and ill-fated multimillion dollar projects where the owners were given seven days to vacate the property? |
MasterTeeUSA:You did not address the issue but rather attacked his personality. Interesting to note. |
indigenous234:The short term plan should be to lease. The long term goal should be to park the wealth outside Nigeria. The die-put-mentality in Nigeria by Igbos has to change. There exist other places across the world to invest and actually OWN properties. |
Laple0541:But the original plan did not involve where the resort is situated. That is the major point. The project was conceived more than forty years ago while Paul got the land in 2007. How come the Lagos state government did not know his land was obstructing a major infrastructural project? Anyway, another day to know that no one owns land in Nigeria. |
"No one owns land in Nigeria" - IbeOkehie. I won't lie, God bless the day I came across your posts. |
IbeOkehie:I am not surprised as I predicted it few days after Tinubu's victory: https://www.nairaland.com/7621766/tinubus-nigeria-nigeria-2050 Only ignorant and as usual arrogant Igbos would continue to chook head inside. I would be here to remind them, and gloat at the same time. |
IbeOkehie:https://edition.cnn.com/2024/04/05/business/landmark-beach-nigeria-demolition-superhighway/index.html You are a God! ![]() |
Sapasenator:The bold is what most Nigerians tend to gloss over - have children one can take care of. Marriage isn't the issue, but having more children than one can care for. The number of children is important as Africans marry because of childbearing, not companionship purposes. |
Tonididdyx:I do agree it is a necessity in Nigeria and most parts of Africa, the reason we see very few if not non-existence of black DINK couples. But as the global economy gets tougher and more Africans, especially Anglophone countries, adopt Western cultural practices (for the younger generation), things would change. One major cultural force which pushes Africans to marry and bear children is religion. Islam on its own is an unstoppable force in that aspect. |
maasoap: ![]() You, an Osun Muslim man, go gree your daughter marry an Igbo or Efik man? |
Afolue:This is true, as most children tend to align with their mom. They might change later in life, mainly for the male kids, but at that point, it is late for the man to reap the love and affection children have for their parents. To me, men should be a little more selfish because las las, even at old age, you are alone. The aspect of kids caring for parents is changing gradually as the children have to fend for themselves in this tough global economic climate. |
chisupport:But Reflect7 is correct. There are more Asian immigrants in Japan than Africans. In fact, there are more Thais in Japan than Americans. The criterion to qualify for this visa is quite high (minimum N3 level in Japanese), no route to permanent residency and participants get to leave the country after five years. However, I don't know where Reflect7 aka Rossikk got the information that the entire number of Africans in Europe isn't up to one million. Does this number exclude North Africans? |
IbeOkehie:Based on this argument, how come mortgages work in Singapore where most lands are leased by the government (only few lands are outrightly owned by citizens)? |
toujurs:Some men don't want to be accused of sexual harassment or have a poor dress sense even though they have money. As a result, they don chop enough rejections and snubbings, so they are no longer interested in wooing women. Most importantly, it is far more preferable and beneficial for a man to attract women than to chase them. Another thing, and very important to note: you should seek for geninue desire from women. If the ladies you come across are not interested in you or don't expressly show genuine desire in you, don't bother. The era of forcing or buying women to like you suppose don pass. |
2braithe:Good grade. You need to get quality work experience in Nigeria. Once that is achieved, then write the GMAT and score exceedingly high. |
Xfemt:Pardon my curiosity, what kind of businesses were those? |
ednut1:Wow! I sympathise with those Asian men sha. Their women in the West, especially in the California area, have been so westernised that they cannot compete. However, the good thing is, that these Asian men have the option of moving back to their countries which they built to high standards and get the best women there. Asian women are facially beautiful and genetically slim, so no surprise white men like them. |
Karleb:Thank God you don see am for yourself. Mine is a dating/friendship group comprising largely young people within a particular region. I noticed the introductory posts by new members: the ladies looked pretty good, while the men weren't so good. I don't look at complexion, but general dress sense, structure of face, dentition, hair style etc. Where you see a handsome lad, even other males dey confirm say this dude is fine. The lad gets many positive responses from the lasses, with some "green light comments". Before readers think it is a group of poor people, no it is not. It is mixed, but mainly young people who are unmarried and very few married folks. After a series of introductory posts, I con dey think say our men aren't really that handsome. This was before the yukay wave of videos. When I saw the faces involved in these videos, it confirmed my observations: Nigerian men are not handsome. Now, how can these men compete with born and bred Black British or African American men? No be say we get long preek pass Sudanese, Gambians or Senegalese. No be say we tall like those people sef. Our ambitious spirit might be a positive factor, but that is not a phenotypic feature. Another thing too, people tend to think of Nigeria as just Lagos and Abuja, but there exist other places in Nigeria; and there, being ugly is the standard. Places like Kogi, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Kwara would never have handsome men no matter how hard they try. |
2braithe:That you don't need to go through the study route as a means to get inside the US. Work authorisation is not certain after studying in the US. Your aim is to work in the US, so the NIW solves the issue. However, if you are dead on private equity or IB, you need an MBA from a top Business School. Also, the university and grade you graduated also plays a role. Which university and what was your grade in undergraduate levels? 2braithe:That is where your grade and GMAT score comes in. Score at least 780 and a fat scholarship is certain. |
2braithe:Then, an MBA from an M7 is a must. Check Reddit/MBA section to know whatsup |
2braithe:NIW is easier and more straightforward than Canada's EE. Five years experience with BSc/BA or an MSc and the five years' work experience gets omitted. If you get into an audit firm while in Nigeria, write ACCA then CPA, you would be qualified to become an accountant and get the work authorization to work in the US. For investment banking, an MBA is extremely important, considering you are a black African coming from a largely poor country and one where there exist very few US investment vehicles compared to, say, India or Vietnam or Brazil. So, MBA from a M7 business school or at least T15. Again, to be admitted into a good MBA program, you need quality and cognate work experience. If I were you, looking at finance, I would focus on getting quality work experience in Nigeria. |
dkidd:Humans are tribal; they would prefer someone who looks, speaks and thinks like them. If you have someone who is willing to show you the ropes or you have plenty money to navigate the process (money removes the language aspect), good. But remember, you are sourcing these cocoa beans from farmers in the hinterlands, aka thick forests. There is a reason commodity firms employ people who speak the language of the region where they source a particular raw material. |
Had to put this here: Men who married in their forties and early fifties: Poju Oyemade Oscar Onyema Olumide Akpata Tayo Oviosu Victor Asemota Olumide Aderinokun (married Stephanie Coker five years after his first wife died of cancer) Dr Ola Brown's Husband (popular TwitterNG personality) The issue isn't really early or late, but not having plenty of children more than one can adequately cater for. Nigerians have this mentality of producing more children just because small change enters their hands. Just because one's finances have increased after two children does not mean the person should aim for another child or children. Raising children is terribly expensive and largely a thankless job. Also, men should opt for vasectomy if need be as female contraceptives can fail atimes. When I mention this aspect, many get upset. |
