Bros, am even tired of arguing about japa no japa again because they will just see you as hater.
Many people are doing fine here in Nigeria and won't think about japaing yet the noise about japa on nairaland is way above the roof.
Some of them say that you can't get a visitor's visa to Europe or Canada with nija passport and when I enter the plane while coming back home last month, 90% of the people are using Nigerian passport because most of us queued and cleared through the Nigerians Only route while like 10% in the foreign passport route.
So who are these Nigerians getting visas everyday?
Who are these Nigerians filling up Ethiopia airlines like 8 a day to Nigeria with other airlines?

Where are they all getting visas for different countries when the japa crew nairaland version claim Nigeria passport is useless and can't go anywhere?
By now, I expect planes to just be 15 or 20% partially filled since Nigerian passport holders have been shadow-banned as they usually say it
Just as a clarification, if one is moving to Nigeria, it makes sense to use the Nigerian passport even if the person is a dual citizen of a developed country. The same applies when moving out; use the Nigerian passport when moving out and present the other passport upon arrival.

The worst of it all is Nigerians describing the Asians as ''whites'' and worshiping them.

The level of the inferiority complex is so pitiable and shameful.
The "Asians" here have to be specific. If it is East Asians, they are wealthier and have developed and functioning societies than anywhere in Africa. If it is South Asians or some parts of South East Asians, then I can understand your pains. However, by looking at the economic growth rates of certain South East Asian countries, if they maintain those growth rates and do not experience devastating conflicts, I see them becoming solidly middle-class by the middle of the century. The fact their biggest trade partner is China (not just commodities, but finished goods) means they have hooge prospects of becoming prosperous. When that happens, it will remain parts of South Asia, parts of the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa that would be poor. Considering we are more populated than those regions, we would, as sub-Saharan Africans, be the poorest of all inhabitants worldwide. That would be morally demoralising.
TravelRe: Why Do Nigerians Think The Whites Are Richer compared to them? by Gerrard59(m): 7:17pm On Dec 12, 2023
IbeOkehie:
Actually they're much richer than you think. I would advise you to check data on wealth in the USA. Not only that, Black Americans are richer than Nigerians. Nigerians EARN high pay but OWN much less WEALTH. Wealth is built over GENERATIONS in a political systems that PROTECTS PROPERTY RIGHTS.

For example your first wrote something about mortgages and how they don't own their homes. This quite wrong. I'll just make an offhand guesstimate that over 65% of homes in the USA are mortgage free. Most White Americans and many Blacks don't pay rent or mortgage...and even if they do it's a solid, guaranteed future wealth. This is NOT too hard to understand.

I don't blame una sha, it took me a long time to realize a lot of this. Look, think of it like this...the average or middle class White American has the same kind of wealth you have as a Native tribal person in Nigeria.

The American people are Natives just the same way you're a Native of your tribe and own wealth you didn't work for or pay for.
THE DIFFERENCE is precisely what you've attempted to discount - socio-political organization. Your land in your ancestral village BY LAW doesn't even belong to you. The American people have organized their country in such a way they they LEGALLY OWN property. That secure ownership is what gives value. That is why MORTGAGE is more widespread in the USA than in Nigeria.

Why do all these Nigerian elites own homes abroad? Did you read how the Federal Government forced Abubakar Atiku to give up his shares in Intels? That shows ALL property ownership in Nigeria is at risk.

I actually am tired of these sort of discussions but the way wrong info is touted here to justify the NIGERIA IS BETTER THAN US/UK narrative is crazy.

Good Luck to Nigerians.
Just to add: Here is a more detailed explanation about the concept of savings between whites/African Americans in developed countries and Nigerians:

Kenn55:
All the western world countries are almost the same except for little variations here and there.

They are all credit societies where large chunk of their economy is driven by consumer spending.

However you have the choice to stay out of loans. For example, If you don't have money to go to school, then you don't have to study courses that would keep you heavily indebted since you will be taking loan to study. You can study in demand courses in colleges with grant rather than go to a high ranking university to study with loans. You can decide to drive a 15 year old car and pay for it in cash rather than going for a brand new or fairly new car with loan.

You can even keep renting instead of buying a house on mortgage if you hate loans so much but that doesn't make sense since houses are assets and not liabilities. Even though you owe money on a house, you can sell it and make profit when the time is right.

Note that an average oyibo doesn't care much about debt the way we do cos that is how they live from beginning and it's part of their lifestyle as built by their system.

You talked about savings but note that these western countries are not built for savings but spending. Like I said before, it is the bedrock of their economy. Besides, the structure of their society coupled with fairly good governance makes savings not to be a big deal.

Why do people need savings? In case of emergency. What are the do or die emergencies? Loss of job, health, accidents, loss of shelter, life etc. The oyibo model is insure instead of savings. This is why insurance is one of the biggest industries in North America.

In this place, your insurance is your savings while in places like Nigeria, your savings is your insurance because of the model our society is run. You see the difference.

Why would an average oyibo be bothered much about savings when he has insured against all possible emergencies? Life, employment, health, home, car, accident and even pet sef dey get insurance. These insurance coverages cost money but because of their mentality, they embrace it but majority of us Africans will see it as a waste and instead save those money in the bank and that would form part of our "savings".

So when you read an average oyibo have little or no savings, that is the truth but it doesn't tell the full story.

You asked a valid question but you need to understand how the society is built in order to properly navigate it. The choice to embrace the oyibo model or our Nigerian model or a little mixture of both is left for you.
That aspect of property rights is something we have not fully considered is key to building wealth. There is a lot of dead capital in Nigeria due to the archaic Law Use Act. PwC Nigeria did a study about it. That law has to be changed so that people can actually own wealth and pass it down to generations. Also, there are other avenues for building wealth in developed countries, such as the stock market. We would be told there is the Nigerian Stock Exchange, but how many Nigerians have built wealth over the years through it? How many Nigerian companies do an IPO regularly on the market? It should be a great way for companies to raise capital to expand their businesses, but it is not widespread. Businesses complain of capital to expand their operations, but few are listing online. Why?

The concept of the whites being poorer than Nigerians does not hold water when the former can build wealth in a place where the rule of law works. It seems people underestimate the effect of rule of law in building wealthy societies.

Cocoa farmers must be making a killing to the extent the beans are pilfered. shocked

Good a thing, unlike Ghana and Ivory Coast, there are no restrictions on the prices Nigerian farmers wish to sell. That is the beauty of capitalism: the free market.

Ghana, as I write, signed a deal with the IMF to trade her future earnings from cocoa for an immediate loan. Terrible decision. I was stunned! The Ghanaian economy must be so terrible for such to have occurred when the president and his finance minister studied at Oxford and Columbia universities, respectively (I wonder what they learnt while there assuming they actually attended classes and paid attention).

“My landowner is asking for 450,000 naira per year on the 2-hectare farm for which I currently pay 200,000,” said Attangba Bonjo, who grows cocoa on leased land in Ikom in Nigeria’s southeast. “Cocoa farmgate prices have risen to about 4 million naira from 2.7 million naira per ton in the last two months, which I believe the land owners want to have a taste of.”

More than a fifth of the 18,000 farmers in the area are impacted by the rent hikes, according to John Kalu, the zone’s coordinator for the Cocoa Association of Nigeria. The growers will be hurt by this “if cocoa prices were to fall below their current levels.”

However, the skew of the market is not without some benefits for farmers, and they’re making some unusual but potentially lucrative contracts.

Growers in central Cameroon have started selling beans still in pods because they want to lock in the current high prices, Ngono said. Buyers are eager because they want to export more, he added.

In the normal course, farmers cut open the pods with their machetes and let the cocoa beans ferment and dry in the sun for 10-12 days before selling them. Now, in many new deals, these steps are the buyer’s responsibility. They assess the crop and strike a deal. In some contracts the processing is then outsourced back to the farmers, or the buyer might hire workers.

With supplies tight, buying the crop on trees assures traders that a competitor won’t purchase the cocoa ahead of them.

But the volatility concerns Cameroon’s authorities.

The government plans to ban the sale of all cocoa on the market that cannot be traced, to stem theft in the business, Trade Minister Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana said during a recent tour of the country’s so-called centers of excellence that help cocoa farmers process the beans and find the best bidders for their produce.

AgricultureRobbers Steal Cocoa Beans As Cocoa Prices Balloon - Bloomberg by Gerrard59(op): 8:01am On Dec 12, 2023
From thieves stealing pods to traders rigging scales — high drama is unfolding in Nigeria and Cameroon’s cocoa markets — as everyone jostles for the massive profits on offer as prices of the chocolate ingredient have soared to their highest in over forty years.

Production shortfalls in West Africa, where much of the world’s cocoa is grown, are driving the rally. With the heart of the harvest season now underway, the rush of unusual developments highlights the fight over the limited supply and complicates how much farmers ultimately benefit from the price gains.

“Thieves are invading the sector, stealing pods and selling to traders,” Charles Etoundi Ngono, a local delegate of Cameroon’s Trade Ministry, said. Unlicensed traders have entered the market and are using faulty scales to cheat farmers, he added.

Cocoa futures traded in New York reached a 46-year high last week as heavy rains and crop diseases hurt West African output. In Ivory Coast and Ghana, the top two nations producing about 60% of the world’s cocoa, industry regulators set the price at which traders buy from farmers. Cameroon and Nigeria, however, operate in a free market system with minimal state control.

A kilogram of beans in the center and littoral production areas of Cameroon currently fetches $3.30, up 26% from the start of the season in October, according to the Cameroon-based Cocoa and Coffee Interprofessional Board.

A single cocoa pod sells between 200 and 250 francs depending on the size, according to a survey of five farmers in the area. “We want to take advantage of the rising price before it’s too late,” Jean-Phillipe Amougou, one of the farmers said, in an interview.

Growers in Nigeria are witnessing a similar frenzy for profits. Land owners in the south-eastern part of the country, which account for 30% of the nation’s 285,000-ton annual output, are pushing up rents, sometimes looking for quadruple the current prices.

I explained in detail about Nigerian elites who have second passports: https://www.nairaland.com/7482300/importance-acquiring-second-passport-young#119276976

As you said, it is too late for your friend. What he should do is prepare the children to attend good schools in the US on scholarships. That should be his focus now instead of relocating unless a reputable firm in the West can employ him through a standard recruitment process. Which implies he should have the in-demand skills to ensure that is possible.

There are many good schools in the US, for instance, he can prep his children to apply to and yes, scholarships are surfeit to enable such to become a reality.

If you have a good certification, still in your thirties or below 40, or even early forties, you are able to save up to N10m and have a child or two children and not a political actor or a clergy of a big church, may I ask, "What are you still waiting for"?

You see, 7 months ago, your N10m was about $22K. Now, it is only about $8590. However bad, it could still take you to UK, atleast. Then you can begin sorting your life. Even if you have a business, it will be eroded soon.

No, not with a Tinubu that does not understand productivity.
While it is good to relocate, to be fair, there are people making money in Nigeria. I come across businesses receiving huge capital investments (in millions of dollars and not in tech o) to operate in Nigeria. Yes, there are also failing businesses; quite alright, but people are still making it in Nigeria. I think the sweet spot is having a strong passport of a developed country and being able to access Nigeria. That is what every Nigerian elite does. All have a second citizenship. None uses only the Nigerian passport. That is what your friend failed to consider.

Another issue is operating a business which sells to Nigerians. You don't expect cocoa exporters to japa. It makes no economic sense whatsoever. Those people are making blood money compared to their counterparts in Ivory Coast and Ghana, I tell you.

That said, how do you cope with mentions of the word "Validated" since it is your moniker. I am curious how Nairalanders with standard English words cope with mentions.

Kipaji:
Thank you very much. So, how would you say "bro", "man", or something like that in a local language?
It depends on the person you are referring to. Nigeria has so many ethnic groups with various appellations to describe people.

Wow, never thought about this. I knew that many women go to luxury places in the hope of being targeted by rich men, but I never thought about this dynamic for prostitutes in hotels.
That is a more "Behind" way rather than turning the place into a brothel-like establishment. Some outfits will allow the girls to have their rooms which they pay daily fees (at an agreed rate) to the management. There, they service customers. This is known as "in-call" - the customer visits the escort in her room. The price the customer pays is usually lower than the opposite which is known as "out-call" - the escort goes to the customer's location. So, some men go for in-call or out-call. Where there is demand, there would be supply. This can be useful for men who want to cut costs in lodging, and if the escort's abode is in a good place, it could be better than what the customer could afford. But this is also risky depending on the environment as it could be dangerous and rowdy if a fight occurs. So, the hotel premises should be well investigated.

Yes, the sex market is becoming harsher for prostitutes with free porn, several online prostitution platforms (instagram, onlyfans, whatsapp, escort websites, ...), the increasing number of real-life prostitute alternatives (oloshos, students, "girlfriends"wink, and the high levels of promiscuity.
I think the old mode of prostitutitoon where they stand along the road seeking customers is gradually reducing, at least in the major cities. Any fine girl with a smartphone can run it from home. I think the ladies at brothels are either too uneducated, too rude, very ugly and have a helpless outlook on life, aka eternally doomed for them to be there. We have ladies who offer sex videos and pictures on Snapchat via subscriptions, an average of 20K per month. Imagine having just 5 lads who pay for such. Also, since online is not the real deal, one or two of them can pay higher to access it physically. That is just Snapchat. There is also Bigo, where fans of a lady (she could be singing sef) buy Bigo credits, which translates to money for the content provider (lady here). Bigo works by the female displaying any act she likes, and subscribers pay (subscribers are mostly men). Some ladies show the inner linings of their vagina or breasts as subscribers demand and buy Bigo credits.

So, there are many avenues to make money as a girl who wants to sell sex. The demand is there, along with various supply chain processes.

Is there a significant amount of homosexuals in Nigeria? Is it more gays or lesbians?
How is the growing tide received by the population? What are some key reasons of this growing number of homosexuals?
I cannot say as I don't have access to research-backed information, but I will say there has been an explosion of their activities even in the face of the anti-gay law signed by Jonathan. With increased westernisation via social media which has expanded in access within almost a decade, there is this growing "showcasing of their lifestyles". Unlike in the 2000s, a homosexual can easily connect with another in a faraway place and go to parties, sex romps, networking, etc. There are several cases of police bursting parties of homosexual men, mostly men surprisingly; unlike, say, in 2010 - 2013.

For now, lesbianism or better still, female bisexuality, is accepted or not frowned upon as male homosexuality. Mainly due to heterosexual men having fantasies of three.some and women being naturally bisexual or bi-curious. I have seen Facebook posts where a girl asks for lesbian connections or says "she does girls". There are some rumblings here and there. Some even laugh at it or even ask if they (mostly men) can join in the eventual romp. I am yet to see a similar post by a male.

I see the present Gen-Zs being more accepting of homosexuals compared to mine or generations above mine.

Thank you Gerrard for your insights and perspective. What is your website?
None for now, but in the works.

Thank you too.

He can opt for an MBA (stem certified) in the US. Target the business schools in Texas. While humans across the world are tribal to varying levels, it is how wealthy that differentiates them. Nigerians' tribal bigotry is worse because they are notoriously poor. The Jews are very powerful, and you had governments which are sympathetic, aka have conscience. The German government has acknowledged the genocides in Namibia and Tanzania. The Dutch have done the same for colonisation in Indonesia. Black dominated governments never do the same. There is a reason I want the White man to continue his dominance of the world. If he ever fails, the Chinese man takes over. The Black man should never dominate this world as it is. Not like it is going to be possible anyway.

Secondly, asking for quotas tends to harm a group more than good. Isn't it funny that Igbos who suffered a civil war which decimated their livelihoods and the society are made to attain high scores over the north, which hasn't experienced such? For instance, Chinese Malays dominate the private sector in Malaysia and score very high in national examinations even though there are national quotas for native Malays. The Chinese out-perform every other racial group even though national policies are stacked against them.

Some politicians have brainwashed our eastern brothers into thinking they should have a seaport while neglecting other feasible projects like good rails and dry ports.
That has been my argument, but some of my people think the region can have a seaport. Geographically, it is not possible. I have argued that the alternative is to liaise and collaborate with ethnic groups which share boundaries with the Atlantic Ocean; Ijaws, Efiks, Ibibios, Oron People, Itsekiri etc. Because even dry ports in the east would have their goods transported to and fro from ports in areas that don't have an Igbo majority.

Rail has been removed from the exclusive list. The plan ought to be connecting Calabar to Uyo to Port-harcourt to Aba to Enugu to Onitsha to Asaba to Ughelli to Warri (whichever comes first on the map). Also, electricity generation has been removed.

Privatise everything. If possible, hand over management to foreign firms - Chinese, Singaporean, Japanese or Korean. Nigerians should not run the system for the first twenty years.

After doing the railway, construct roads and install poll booths. Again, privatise everything.

Outlined below are the 11 reasons why you must make sure you Japa from Nigeria:

4. Immediately you leave Nigeria, all life and spiritual problems are over, that's why you see that when many people japa from Nigeria, they don't go to church and mosque again, simply because they have no reason to. The Government in their new country of residence have provided everything they needed, so no need to disturb God again. Life problems and Spiritual problems are only in Nigeria, they can't be found elsewhere.
Not entirely true. Nigerians still attend churches and mosques in the abroad. Not attending religious centres could be said for second generation Nigerians, but the first and the ones who emigrated recently? They attend churches fervently. Have you not seen crusades in the UK recently? More Nigerian churches have opened newer and bigger branches. In fact, there was a report that the increase in church attendance in the UK and Canada was attributed to immigrants from Africa. Before the current wave, church attendance was very low and predominantly elderly white people.

11. When you Japa from Nigeria, you have Automatically add 30 years to your lifespan, mortality rate is high in Nigeria for obvious reasons, but elsewhere apart from Nigeria, life expectancy is very high.
I agree with this.

Other than these, the rest of your points are comical. grin

As a Nigerian with common sense, it's so easy to be or support a Republican.

If I were an American, my vote would go to anything that is not Democrat.
If you say this online, you will be bullied and have other Nigerians, especially second-generation attack you. Even if it is for economic policies or education policies, they would attack you head-on. Check the Foreign Affairs section where such debates go on. The funny thing is unfettered immigration from the Southern border affects black people more than whites. These South Americans are likely to vote Republican because they see things as first-generation Nigerians. Two, they don't seem to like or align with black people. Third, their numbers in the long run dilute the black population.

When one factor in the incarceration of black males, general low birth rates, growing homosexuality amongst black males, and low marriage rates amongst blacks, the black population is slated to decline in the future. The only antidote is accepting African migrants in large numbers, which the native black population do not want neither does the Democratic Party support. See how they treated Haitians.

huh huh....you got 20 pounds....
Not everyone got £20. It was for those who could provide enough evidence to prove they were worthy of it. How is that possible when war has rendered homes, documents and assets to bare ashes?

it doesnt matter....
you are not the only tribe that needs things....
Igbos are the only ones who have been disadvantaged by a major war in Nigeria. Second would be ethnic minorities in the Niger Delta as it concerns oil spillage on their lands. Third would be Northern Christians who have been butchered left, right and centre over 50 years.

seaport....??

but you have onne near you....
you have portharcourt near you....

fg should dreadge the river till south east and you still not use it....??
While Onne Port is standard for export, some persons say not all goods are allowed via it. I don't have enough information about it, so I cannot say. At the same time, I stated earlier that the south east cannot have a seaport. It is not geographically possible.

I actually agree with some of your points, especially on adoption of Christianity in the east. My opinion is the issue more systematic than coincidental, like you have mentioned a major talking point which is the adoption of Christianity, any where Christianity thrives, Leftism also thrives afterwards because of Christianity's impact on freedom and justice is very high.
This is true. South Korea engages in leftist policies than the Japanese. A significant proportion of Chinese Singaporeans parrot similar ideas than those in Hong Kong.

Eastern muslims exist but very few of them, mostly are Christians who adopted the western ideology. The liberties and rights that we value in free societies are to a great degree the result of Christianity's influence.
While that is true, I don't think it is universally true. Developed Asian societies have made me understand a society can achieve those heights without indulging in Western version of liberalism.

Mind you, a lot of feminists dislike Christianity because they believe it marginalises women, the same Christianity that brought freedom to them. One popular talking point is why Jesus didn't have female disciples.
To be fair to them, religion is anti-feminist. This is why I laugh when I see "Christian feminist", or "I am a Muslim feminist". Cognitive dissonance. On the other hand, Christianity is the most female-friendly major religion. The liberty to develop one's doctrine within the same religion attests to such. A religion where Christ Embassy exists alongside Deeper Life while promoting female education and advancement makes it so.

Lastly, another issue is colonialism and the rise of Nigerians moving the west, we have more Nigerians becoming leftists because (1) We speak english as we were colonised by the British as compared to the other francophone countries
Yeah. That is another important point - the use of the English language, which I describe as the greatest gift from the British to Nigerians. Since the US is the kitchen of mumbo-jumbo liberalism, speakers of the English language across the world are exposed, intentionally or otherwise, to ideologies emanating from there. Again, Chinese Singaporeans eulogise or parrot these policies because they speak English or better English than their kiths in Hong Kong.

Trivial point: the top economies in sub-Saharan Africa have English as their official language.

(2) Nigeria has always been in a bad economic shape hence we keep moving out and our second generation immigrants who are women largely become fully feminists.
I want to see the end result of the movement, especially as they are black women.

Good luck to everyone involved.

The government needs to do more for the South East, I totally agree. They also need to embark on programs that foster national unity...

The only wrong thing he said was the seaport; there is no sea or ocean in the south east to begin with, so where do they locate it in the region since it's landlocked? Except for Lagos & the Niger delta, locating a seaport anywhere else is a complete trash idea.

What the SE needs is a good rail network and dry ports to transport cargo from and to various parts of Nigeria.
I agree with you. I don't know how the south east is going to get a port when there is no majority Igbo group abut to the Atlantic Ocean.

Anyway, the Oyibo is wasting his time. Nothing is going to change unless other Nigerians are willing to change.

funny part is nobody is stoppin them to do it in their region themselves....

they want the federal goverment to do it for them....
this is the main issue....

than to come toghether and build this things themselves, they are busy supportin ipob and waitin for biafra....
Why not? The United States developed the Marshall Plan, which saw the western part of Europe receiving loans, investments and aid to rebuild the continent after two World Wars. South Korea got funding from the United States to rebuild itself, ditto for Japan and Taiwan. Singapore, too, got investment from the US. Igbos are literally the ones who got defeated after a war and received no help in rebuilding. Everything was done by sheer hard work, perseverance and determination.

So, if the Japanese could receive economic assistance from the Americans who bombed them twice, why not Igbos?

I hate leftists so much. They don't just destroy societies. They destroy economies too. Chiles current president is more left leaning but their congress house thankfully is more right leaning.
I always say to myself, should I become an American citizen, I would become a hardcore Republican supporter. It is a reason I admire developed Asian societies. They are very pragmatic rather than take every left-leaning policy hook, line and sinker.

lastkingsman:
I only like leftist when it comes to immigration policies every other thing is about them is madness.

My personal grudge with Trump is his stand on immigration.
Trump was anti-abuses of the system, rather than the act itself. He curtailed abuses in the H1B system. Unfettered immigration especially via unstructured routes is an insult to meritocracy and those who followed due process to enter a country.

It is the philosophy of the Leftists, and the ladies like it. I've never seen any Leftist theory make sense to me; that same idea is what drives the whole gender discussion and why we have so many genders now. I'm sure you've heard of systemic racism, but there's also systematic leftism, where you're helpless to defend yourself even if you're completely innocent of the allegations levelled against you. If you are accused of harassment, you may lose your job or be expelled from school before an inquiry is conducted. If found not to be guilty of harassment after investigations, you will not be reinstated and have lost that career. One more thing, men have to also be careful of who they settle down with, any woman who has leftist ideology or has friends who are advising that are also leftist is meant to ruin you in the long run.
Then TwitterNG ranters are surprised when first generation Nigerian-Americans vote for the Republican Party. The GOP tends not to spot opportunities by aligning with African immigrants and African Americans sympathetic to their cause to shed off the "GOP hates blacks" mentality. They should take a leaf from what David Cameron did with the Conservative Party in the UK. As it is, one cannot accuse the Conservatives of being racist or not offering opportunities to minorities. If the GOP continues with her current policy, she faces a hard time in future elections, especially the brainwashed Gen-Zs begin to vote and the White population declines over time.
