There are the tribalists, too. As long as it does affect other ethnic groups, especially Igbos, they are satisfied. Their sole aim is never to see an Igbo man or someone who Igbos support in Aso Rock. It gives them an erection so bad! Organise an election today between Tinubu vs Peter Obi, and the former would win for that very reason. Pit Akpabio vs Kwankwaso, and the latter would win it. Do Atiku vs Jonathan and the Waziri of Adamawa would win. In fact, pit Udom Emmanuel against a goat and your fellow Nigerians would vote for that goat. You need to understand how your fellow Nigerians think. |
triplo3:Pre-2010 and till 2014, there was a massive return of Nigerians in the diaspora and they once dominated the discourse on Nairaland. There were tales and websites meant for them. Then, few Nigerians bothered to remain after their studies. Rather, they went abroad to study and returned for higher salaries and high-profile roles/jobs. Then, Access Bank and other companies organised aptitude tests in London for Nigerian students in British universities and successful applicants got interviewed and resumed in Nigeria after their graduation. In 2015, the same people said GEJ was a bad choice and voted him out to install an incompetent feudalist. Now, the same people are selling their properties as married people to go back to the same UK. God does not have to punish APC, but those who campaigned and voted for Buhari in 2015. My signature exists for a reason. |
GloriousGbola:Until those women campaign against the policies made by their fellow women, they should stop complaining. Any young man who followed #MeToo movement is doing the right thing in keeping women's at arms length. After all, the same women say a "no" is a "no". That is what they wanted, they should live it. If they are not happy about men not following up, they should date fellow women. Examples abound of those who took that route. It is a free world. |
ednut1:She is also notorious on Twitter for supporting Hamas attacks. Some people are very problematic. |
ednut1:I understand, but when a minister in the most immigration-friendly government says a study visa is not a guaranteed pathway to permanent residency, it becomes hilarious in a way. To be fair to him, he is right. The sudden change is disappointing tho. |
FireUpNow:I tell you. There are many properties owned by older Nigerians meant for their children who now reside abroad or in different states. My first landlady died a few months after her husband and left landed properties for the children, who were based in the US. It was her sister who was saddled with the responsibility of managing them. The era of big houses with vast surroundings ought to come to an end. |
tensazangetsu20:I mentioned once here that one could be arrested for staring at a lady in the UK - where the term stare rape originated from. One Nairalander insulted me. Me wey don read when the bill was signed into law, and people lamented on DailyMailUK. That law changed the way I look at women. In Nigeria, it was done unconsciously. Here, I do it purposely. I only glance and look straight afterwards. |

Raalsalghul:Humans are tribal. That one is sure. Should there be war in Taiwan, Japan, and Singapore to an extent, will gladly accept Taiwanese as refugees. But none of those countries accepted refugees from Myanmar. Many applied to Japan, and she refused except for one prominent human rights activist. Na why young people suppose understand the world for what it is, rather than what they should/expect it to be. |
Gamesmart:I know your previous moniker, so I wonder why you changed to this one. That said, you supported Buhari in 2011, 2015 and 2019. Your darling Tinubu supported and campaigned for Buhari during the last eight years. So, how come you believe Tinubu would be better off or has this seemingly high IQ to steer Nigeria on the right path? Does your conscience not prick you considering your previous decisions? You claim to have a high IQ, so what did you see in Buhari? I am genuinely curious. |
Yomit71:East Asian countries are third class? ![]() Some of you reason through your anus! |
lastkingsman:The family he comes from is very wealthy. That was how he got into Harvard. As we saw it, he later moved to Singapore, where he naturalised and got the Singaporean passport. To get Singapore's passport, one has to renounce all other previous citizenship. Migration is as old as mankind. From a wealthy family in Brazil, he moved to the US and later settled in Singapore. Then we have people chanting every day on Nairaland that people should not emigrate if they really want to. I doubt any has studied at Harvard or had wealthy parents as Eduardo. That said, Eduardo is well respected in Singapore and got himself a Good Class Bungalow - the pinnacle of real estate in Singapore. GCBs signifies "one has made it" in Singapore. |
ednut1:Congratulations!! I really do like the design. It is beautiful than the ones I have seen online. reddit/passportporn |
robify01:use Google Flights or Skyscanner to compare flights. Until you are about to pay, don't assume prices as they change every second. To get cheap rates, book at least three weeks ahead and book a mid-week flight. Weekend flights are usually more costly. |
LeonSaab:As I said, Lagos is a cosmopolitan state with the highest number of Igbos in the south west. Obviously, the majority of residents in Lagos are Yorubas. However, until the figures are broken by ethnicity or, at best, local government areas, we cannot explicitly state that most Yorubas in Lagos voted for Peter Obi. and when the results came out you people were shouting up and down how you take Lagos for governorshipI never believed Sanwo Olu would lose the election. Governorship is different from presidential. So, I was not surprised to see him win. However, it should have been in a free and fair manner without harassment. The events leading to the election were terrible and appalling. GRV saying he does not think in Yoruba did not make sense to me. In Nigeria, the governor has to align or speak like the majority indigenous people. So, the belief that he should be regarded when he cannot speak the majority language did not make sense to me. Humans are tribal. .....even in a broader sense self in the SW as a whole how many igbos do you think voted for obi in the entire southwest.....cause i'm sure if you check Yorubas voted more for him in the SW than igbos living in the SWIf that was true, Peter Obi should have come second outside Lagos. In Osun, he came a distant third. In Christian Ekiti, he also came third. A Northern Christian was shocked Peter Obi could lose in Ekiti. Accept it, Yorubas voted overwhelmingly for Tinubu, then Atiku than Obi. Numbers don't lie. ......you people rig yourself in the SE and are claiming we support our own.....which politician in this world can you point to that gas a 95% approval rating when it's not jazz? The bold has no evidence. The south east is Peter Obi's turf, so it is expected he would win there. APC under Buhari mishandled events in the region. So expecting Igbos, Nigeria's majority Christian ethnic group, to vote APC with a Muslim-Muslim ticket is a misplaced belief. It was not going to be possible. The same way I expected and actually predicted that Yorubas would overwhelmingly vote for Tinubu is what happened in the south east for Obi. When Jonathan won more than 90% of votes in Bayelsa and Rivers, did you say the same? |
Typical Christmas demand. The demand is more than the supply. Capitalism at its finest. |
Gamesmart:Because the majority who came then overstayed their visas and broke Japanese laws. Immigration laws have been tightened, and the newer generation is better off and come in via structured routes. |
LeonSaab:Well, the numbers have it that Peter Obi did not come second outside Lagos, which is a cosmopolitan state, in the south west. So one can say that Yorubas did not vote for him. That is what the numbers are saying. More Yorubas voted for Atiku than Obi. Not like I am surprised as I did not expect Yorubas to vote for an Igbo man especially when the main contender is also Yoruba: https://www.nairaland.com/7225545/why-peter-obi-step-down |
pocohantas:I am writing in general not specifically to you. It is a research question I have in mind. I simply want to know why the majority of feminists on the social media sphere in Nigeria are Igbo women. |
TinubuNG:Tinubu only lost in Osun and Lagos. The former was a close call because of the governor's ties with Atiku. The latter was because of the state's cosmopolitan nature. Yorubas overwhelmingly voted for Tinubu. Please don't lie. The figures are widely available on the Internet. |
Ballmer:I have no time to address your foolish way of reasoning. I am not the cause of your frustration. For readers, I had to quote your post: - https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/535667/every-human-intention-by-dreux-richard/ - https://www.japantimes.co.jp/community/2011/07/19/issues/japans-nigerians-pay-price-for-prosperity/ The majority of Nigerians in Japan, East Asia's second biggest economy and one-time biggest, are Igbos. That should not be different from the rest of the sub-continent. Now, go ahead and argue with the Japanese, bloody riff-raff! |
trollx:LIES! Brazillans are not at the Mexico border lurking to enter the US. Brazilians have less than 20% visit visa refusal rates, so how can the same people be at the borders trying to enter the US? You must be mistaking Guatamenlans and other Central Americans for Brazillans. Also, the thing about migrating to the US is strictly economics. Ambitious Europeans, except the Swiss, strive to work in the US. Ambitious Indians, Koreans, Singaporeans and even Japanese all want to work in the US because of the breadth of opportunities and salaries. So, even if a country has a thriving economy, the most ambitious citizens would still want to work in the US. So, we would have ambitious Brazilians who want to study/work in the US (one of Facebook's co-founders is an example), but Brazilians are not the ones you see at the Mexico-US border. |
adaperry25:That is what our brethren who recently emigrated stated while in Nigeria. Only for them to enter UK and Canada and start screaming knack o before leaving Nigeria. Like sister Folake said, those women don't like you. Never force a woman to like you. Strive for genuine desire. Brother Wike said: if it didn't dey, it didn't dey. |
Sirchiboy:The word "huge" is subjective. What is huge to you might be extremely cheap to others. Please understand the economics behind sex before using certain phrases. 50k is someone 2-3 months salary and someone will spend it just in a day.Again, this is basic economics. An oil worker cannot spend the same way a teacher does. A teacher at Grange Schools spends differently from a teacher at Okokomaiko Secondary School. Income determines expenditure to a great extent. Just like a Yahoo guy that can hit 10 to 20m a day and still blow that money within one month..That is the person's business. Just because some people earn N10 million in 35 - 40 years does not mean those who earn it now or have the ability to earn such within a shorter period of time should spend it in a way to satisfy your thoughts. Look there is nothing in a woman body that is worth every kobo you spend.I beg to disagree. There is everything worth spending in having sex with a beautiful 22 year old lady who has a sexy body structure with perky breasts, delightful-looking vagina and well-shaped yansh. You don't have the right to dictate how another man should spend his money. Go and make your own and spend it the WAY YOU WANT TO SPEND IT. As a medical specialist in Himan anatomy and microbiologyWhile that is true, doctors and nurses happen to be some of the most lascivious and promiscuous professionals to have walked on the planet. Most importantly, the hormone - testosterone - begs to disagree. I am sure you have come across that word as a medical specialist and what its effects on men's reproductive biology. The money you spend is waste. That is not true. The men who spend this do so because they derive joy from it. Who are you to say it is a waste? The breast you suck, who enjoys it (the women). That is entirely untrue. Biologically, women are demisexual - they desire to have sex with men they are emotionally attached to. Women don't have sex with many men because they enjoy it. Maybe nymphos, but they are in the minority, not the majority. It is men who enjoy sex the most, which is why they are the biggest promoters and buyers of anything sex. Men support the porn industry, not women. I know some guys reading this are planning to pay huge amount of money this night for sex.Number one mistake: believing that sex is free. That is entirely untrue. Sex is not free. Every man pays for sex at a point. Number two mistake: dictating to other men how to spend their money. You have no such right to dictate to another man how to spend his money. Talking about being munificent, how many less privileged people have you donated your money to? It is assumed you have less sex since women's vagina is "dirty", but how much and when was the last time you donated to philanthropy? You see, this is my problem with so-called moralists - they practice do as I say, not as I do. They preach what they don't practice and practice what they don't preach. Mr Sirchiboy, aka Nairaland's Bill Gates (he had extramarital affairs too), how much have you donated to charity?! |
Tallesty1:Just like the pilot caught on tape begging just to put the head inside. If he had paid 30K to an escort, nothing of such would have happened. Every man pays for sex at a point. Better to pay with cash than with your reputation. |
ednut1:But the majority of these Igbo feminists grew outside the East. So if the culture is patriarchal, more Eastern-based Igbos should be feminists rather than those outside the region. Fine, I know those born and bred in the East who are equally more feminist at heart, but less vocal. But then, the Nigerian culture itself is patriarchal. Most Nigerian ethnic groups are patriarchal, but how come we don't have fiery feminists in other ethnic groups such as Ibibio, Urohobo, Ijaw, Jukun, Tiv, Idoma, etc? Mind you, these groups have the majority of kith who are Christians. One theory is that by being outside the region, they had to fend for themselves and participate in a more competitive society. When a woman begins to perform more masculine tasks, she resorts to social media feminism. Another theory is that due to Christianity, Igbos assimilate more Western ideologies quickly than other ethnic groups. So, they begin to espouse them when they are in safer societies. This is why there are fewer Igbo feminists based in the north. People promote certain ideologies when dem don chop food belly full. How many Northern Christian women do we know that are fiery feminists? This is just on feminism alone o. I am willing to bet there are more Igbo lesbians than any other ethnic group in Nigeria. cc: Kelechi009: I would love to get your opinion on this since you are a researcher. |
ednut1:You remember LotteraU? Ogugua something who was dating one run-around mod those days? There was this other lass who alfa meils pursued her away from Nairaland. I wonder why most Igbo women, especially those who grew outside the East are feminists. Uloma, Moe (mother is Igbo) and all dem TwitterNG feminists are Igbos, majority of them grew outside the East. Even our residents Pocohantas and Cococandy are Igbos. I am willing to bet Ladyhopp something too is Igbo. The only non-Igbo Nairaland feminist I can think of was one Yoruba female moniker that starts with K. What I recall about her is her notoriety for not writing legibly. |
GreatOchuks:It is funny how you say male lawyers move to private practice where they dominate complex and lucrative cases/contracts and female lawyers become secretaries or work for the government (less lucrative). Then, you now believe male bankers prefer to move around (less lucrative), while female bankers prefer to siddon in front of a computer (seemingly more lucrative). To prove your logic wrong, you now dispute OP's belief that banks employ more women than men. So, if men don't like bank jobs as you opine, why do banks employ more men than women? You are conflating brawn labour for brainy work. In reality, men gravitate towards industries and roles where they would be more paid, not necessarily because it is physically demanding. Men dominate the investment banking, private equity and high-end software engineering roles (which is merely siddon in front of computer) because those roles and industries pay very high. At the same time, men dominate the oil rigs everywhere in the world because it pays higher. In teaching, men dominate subjects such as mathematics and physics because the demand and pay are higher than, say, English or Social Studies. Men are physically more powerful than women, but that is not the major reason they do physically domineering jobs. They do any job that pays so high. Today, many men are becoming nurses because it can pay them when/if they relocate to developed countries. I am willing to bet that more male nurses than their female counterparts will opt for longer hours so they earn more money. In medicine, that is the standard; men opt for the high-paying specialities even though they might be dirtier or onerous simply because those areas pay more money. We have more male gynaecologists than female. This is not because male doctors like the woman's vagina, but because it pays higher than being paediatric. If paediatric become a high-earning speciality tomorrow, men will troop inside. Please read about the effects of testosterone and the evolution of male species to better understand why men behave the way they do. |
tosinhtml:I believe that is the basis for this thread, which is fine. The issue is explicitly stating that there are more women employed than men in the banking industry without presenting facts. An alternative way is: stating the bold, then ask, does this mean more women are employed than men by banks? Then responses would follow. That can be tossed aside. My issue lies in other responders still arguing right in the face of hard facts presented by other responders. That is an annoying way to reason and behave. |
Ballmer:I am willing to wager that the majority of Nigerians in Asia are Igbos. By Asia, I mean East and South East Asia. In Japan, the majority of Nigerians are Igbos. The Nigerian Union in Japan is disproportionately dominated by Igbos. I want to believe China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan should not be different. That covers East Asia. South East Asia should not be different, I believe. |
Some lifestyles are not worth the stress involved. |
