Nemesis0147:I read through to the end to see if he answered or responded to your post. Unfortunately, he did not. You see, these are the men brandishing their smelly preek along the streets in Nigeria chanting alfa meil, alfa meil, alfa meil everywhere they go. Never take them seriously. Also, note that they are very poor. P to the OOR! |
1stGenAmerican:He is poor. Only poor men get angry when other men spend their money on women. |
chimhigher:To be fair, subsidy had to go. Nigeria cannot afford more subsidies. My issue is that those who implemented it now opposed it when Jonathan did the same thing at the right time (when the economy was doing well). |
obynokoko:So, what do you do when you want to meet up with female friends/classmates/colleagues etc? |
Saintinoo:Then you remain single. The moment I read "I find it so disgusting" on top another man's money, I knew there was a problem somewhere. Ndito alfa meil. |
pocohantas:You are something else.

pansophist:To be fair, the Chinese economy has been fluttering recently. High youth unemployment, deflation, high debt especially borne by property developers, a decline in exports etc. That of unemployment made the news as the government stopped releasing data. She said that the methodology had to be revised to know those who are school leavers and those still in school. But trust Western media, it was blown out of proportion. I see it as a soft landing rather than awaiting a harsher one. In the same way, borders were locked even when others opened for trade during Covid. But that act was surprising to me. Why close your borders even when your peers have opened theirs? |
Arabs have never seen blacks as humans. The White man has issues, but he is far better off than Arabians. People wey no recognise or acknowledge the Trans-Saharan Slave Trade? Or Mauritania where blacks are still sold into slavery? |
To diasporans, the best way to make your money, considering you are investing dollars or pounds, is into sectors or businesses which are export-oriented. In this way, your revenues are generated in dollars. To me, the real estate business most people plough their money generates losses because never has there been a time when the naira appreciated against the dollar. Investing in real estate should be for those who generate their earnings in naira. Alternatively, it only makes sense if you intend relocating to Nigeria to settle for life. |
jesmond3945:That is normal. I don't understand the desire for a strong naira most Nigerians have. A strong naira is only feasible with a small population. But as it is, we don't need a strong naira. That will skew investments negatively and increase unemployment because there would be no need/usefulness for foreign investors to set up factories in Nigeria and export. Factories are what Nigeria need. The USD is stronger than most currencies in their home countries. So? Do you know that nigeria is so dollarized that happenings outside the country affects it more than what happens inside? How is Nigeria so dollarized when the legal tender is naira? Nigeria is not Ecuador or Namibia, where the Rand is also a legal tender. Let me give you example. In uk, you can never bring any currency other than the pounds, if you do you would pay heavy price for it.That is the UK's personal problem. Also, it is apples to oranges as the UK is a global economy, and the Pound is acceptable globally. I thi k the govt did something like that but the black market in nigeria killed everything.Largely because we don't export as much as we import. Also because the exchange rate has not been completely liberalised. The more restrictions on the exchange rate, the greater the need for black marketers. Additionally, the naira to dollar exchanged is affected by interest rates in the US. The Japanese Yen and South Korean Won have devalued within the past year due to the fluctuating interest rate in the US. To show an example of how a weak currency aids export, check Japan. GDP grew more than 5% because there was an increase in exports and high inward tourist activities. The weak yen makes Japanese goods to be cheaper in the global market, thus, ensuring Japanese companies sell their products and repatriate their earnings back to the country. Nigeria does not need a strong naira. It does more harm than good. Do you know if i send money to nigeria you only receive dollars then the bank will now buy the dollars from you and give you naira. Is this not stupidity? Is this not killing the naira? How can you do business in such a climateThat depends on the medium you sent it. People send money, and their receivers obtain it in USD and go to Aboki for a better value. This is why the exchange rate has to be liberalised to make black marketers unattractive. |
To be fair, one can make money in Nigeria. After all, amidst the economic crises, there are thriving businesses in the country. So, it is not all doom. Wodu89 mentioned garri processing, which is fine. With additional capital and expertise, that can be replaced with a cassava flour factory, which has an enormous demand considering the price of wheat has soared since the war in Ukraine. With further capital and skilled expertise, it can be upgraded or replaced with an ethanol factory which uses cassava as raw material. Some of the issues we have with entrepreneurship are long-term capital and stability/ security. |
Jman06:Again, the children need motherly care and advice. How do you intend to navigate around this? |
Karleb:OK, I see. I stated the above judging from my experience and family background. |
Pasca07:He would have to present an English teaching certificate for a school to employ him from Nigeria. Remember, he is in his 40s o. That can be a discouraging factor for these schools since there are a thousand and one much younger candidates (~20s). And to be fair, if he is to target Asian countries, Japan is better off for a black African job seeker, male or female, than South Korea. When you say "easily work in Korea", what kind of visa would this be on? |
Pasca07:That can be recommended if the person has good work experience in Nigeria which can be transferable and goes to an OK university. Oluseun-Akinrinoye. To reduce any stress upon arrival, because at that age, body go don dey tire. |
pansophist:I read the article and the Ukrainian official on Twitter rebuked it. To be fair, if some parts of occupied Ukraine are ceded to Russia, it emboldens Putin more. The comments in the article are even more daring - "Putin must be crushed", "He must pay for his sins", "Doing this empowers China to takeover Taiwan and ignite WW3" and the most hilarious "We should cut off aid to those countries (Middle Easter and African) who are allies to Putin". |
Jman06:Well, judging from studies conducted globally by different researchers, that is not true. The best environment to raise children is in a two-parent household consisting of a father (man) and a mother (woman). If you believe otherwise, conduct your scientific/social science study and publish the results in a peer-reviewed journal. P.S. In most developed societies where government interventions and subsidies exist, most poor people are those from single-parent homes. Then imagine the same in poor countries? Multidimensional poverty loading.... |
babakb:Go to Chile. Use one year to learn Spanish, apply and enrol into the easiest course you can handle. Five years you collect citizenship. But this depends on why you want to emigrate. To me, anyone above 40 should remain in Nigeria and plan his retirement. Those above 35 but below 40 should emigrate only on a work visa into a structured company. |
Jman06:Having children within a two-parent household is the major benefit. Another benefit could be or is companionship. P.S. Raising children within a two-parent household is the best environment for having properly raised children as adjudged by studies globally. |
Gerrard59:cc: idxtra Every other process regarding visa application and issuance is on the Embassy of Japan, Nigeria's website. https://www.ng.emb-japan.go.jp/ |
Karleb:I really want to see the social experiment's outcome in the next decade. Unlike developed countries where work dey and people earn good money, I want to see the result of extreme feminism in poor countries. |
ednut1:Those feminazis are deluded people. Sometimes, I blame the passport bros due to how loquacious they are. |
Regex:At least, those women will not outrightly refuse to prepare food for their fathers like what I read on TwitterNG for the past two days. |
pansophist:T for Telepathy. ![]() |
pansophist:To be fair, they are shifting investments to India, Vietnam and other parts of South East Asia. They might not offer IP as was done with China, but they are indeed investing in those places. India is playing the same game as China by requesting IP know-how and investment while at the same time staying neutral. Remember that Modi was banned from entering the US, but the ban got overturned when he got elected. Today, every Western leader is engaging in a bromance with him as a counterweight to China. What pisses me off is when they expect Africans to align with them YET don't consider Africans in the buffet they are offering others. It says something about how they see black people. As I stated here a few years ago, my hunch for their apathy or antipathy towards black Africa is the fear that should black Africa be prosperous, we will team up with African Americans to invest in other parts of the black world to become wealthy as well with the aim to settle 500-year old grievances. That said: Imran Khan was removed because he refused to align to condemn Russia: https://theintercept.com/2023/08/09/imran-khan-pakistan-cypher-ukraine-russia/ Vassals, not allies. Bullying, not diplomacy. |
Hiploko:This is where I am interested. How does he accomplish his aims in a city dominated by Northern interests? I want to see where his powers will extend and the accompanying opposition. He will probably be reminded that Abuja is not Port-harcourt. |
The A - Z of China's demonisation. This is the reason China is demonised, nothing else.
|
ednut1:And when they do, they have Canadian citizenship. Capital C for Clowns |
Gerrard59:As I wrote, the Chinese have published papers in reputable journals more than the US. This is by a Western rating agency based in London. The comments in the WSJ article exhibited envy, racism and anger towards the Chinese. Westerners are literally livid the Chinese don't bend to their whims. One of the comments stated that American universities should shift towards India and South East Asia for collaboration and students. None of them mentioned Africa. I am very honest here, when these commentators state the West should shift away from China whether in terms of collaboration to trade, they never mention Africa. In terms of visa issuance to African students, one's chances are higher with the Chinese embassy than the US even for fully funded students. That shows how they view us -unwanted elements. Which is why I am baffled when Africans deride the Chinese. The Chinese made smartphones very affordable for ordinary Africans, which made it possible for millions of Africans to access the Internet. I recall then Apple and Samsung phones were out-of-reach for most Africans, and even now, but with Techno and Itel, many Africans could access the web because the devices were cheap. Africa, and I dare say blacks, have a friend in China, not the West. There is more than a 500-year history to explain our relationship with the West. https://www.wsj.com/world/china/the-u-s-is-turning-away-from-its-biggest-scientific-partner-at-a-precarious-time-9fb9adaa

AdesegunSanni89:That clown who said Buhari would make petrol to be sold at N40 per litre? ![]() |
tishbite42:Yes. It is course neutral. Just strive to do an internship or get into an entry level position so you have the experience compared to someone who studied Industrial Relations. |
labtos:You don't need to go for a master's. With your philosophy degree, you can opt for HR roles. Register for CIPM to get started. If you are good at numbers, enter accounting and begin by registering for ICAN. Don't do any masters in that field. Go for RELEVANT professional certifications. Be good at aptitude tests/job tests when called upon. That is the biggest hurdle in getting a relatively good job in Nigeria, and I think, globally. |
