The Minister of Transportation, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke said on Tuesday that the President’s action was aimed at alleviating the travails of many businessmen and travellers to the zone.

Orikinla: Enugu International Airport Scam: Another 419 on the Igbo Nation The Enugu International Airport also known as Akanu Ibiam International Airport is another 419 on the Biafran Igbo citizens of Nigeria because there is yet nothing international about the airport. It is instructive to note that late President Umoru Yaradua was the one who in 2008 approved the upgrading of the airport to International status in line with his administration’s policy that each geopolitical zone will have at least one international airport. In 2009, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) under Yaradua approved the sum of N4.13 billion for work on the airport which would include extension, asphalting and marking of the runway. The old runway which is 2,400 meters long was to be extended by 600 metres to make it 3000 meters or three kilometers and the width extended from the existing 45 meters to 60 meter. In December 2009, the airport was closed temporarily for work to commence and those wishing to take the route were diverted to Sam Mbakwe Airport Owerri. This work spanned the period when Mr. Babatunde Omotoba was minister till when Fidelia Njeze took over. Therefore, the process of upgrading the Enugu International Airport was kick started by late Yaradua and N4.13 billion naira was approved by the FEC and released for the work to commence. The Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Jonathan on October 19, 2010 reaffirmed the upgrade of Enugu Airport to an international facility and awarded a reviewed contract of about N6.1billion. With the reaffirmation of the international status of the airport, Igbo leaders started the process of unbridled sycophancy by praising the current regime to high heavens over an international airport that still does not exist. Chief among the praise singers was the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremmadu who said that ““For many decades, the people of the South East, the local and international business community have waited seemingly endlessly for the commencement of international flight operations at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, and the people of South East will remain ever grateful to President Jonathan for the breakthrough.” When Stella Oduah moved from 'Neighbor to' Neighbor Campaign Organization' where she muscled out and overshadowed the Chief Tony Anenih owned 'Door to Door Campaign Organization', she was rewarded with Minister of Aviation for a job well done and she commenced upgrade of facilities in all the 22 airports in Nigeria. In the first phase eleven (11)airports including General Aviation Terminal (MMA) International Terminal (MMA), Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, (International Terminal ), Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, (Domestic Terminal), Kaduna Airport Terminal, Margaret Ekpo International Airport Terminal, Calabar, Benin Airport Terminals, Akanu Ibiam International Airport Terminal, Enugu, Sam Mbakwe Airport Terminal, Owerri, Port Harcourt International Airport Terminal, Yola Airport Terminal and Yakubu Gowon Airport, Jos were scheduled for upgrading. Therefore it is absolutely silly for Igbo leaders to grovel before Jonathan for upgrading Enugu Airport as if it is the only one in Nigeria being overhauled. Completely silly and self-effacing!! For goodness sake the Igbos gave this man 90% votes and even zones that gave him 5% votes also got their airports renovated at amounts far higher than was spent at Enugu Airport. Julius Berger was awarded the N9.5bn contract for the Nnamdi Airport upgrade work, while Messrs Crew Construction Company in a joint venture with Itlay's Messrs Cremona Construction and Romania's Messrs Coffer Impex were to upgrade Aminu Kano at a cost of N12.8bn while Enugu got N6 billon and yet the Emir Ado Bayero of Kano did not lead a ' thank you' praise singing troupe to Aso Rock. The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), George Uriesi, even affirmed that the Federal Government had invested $870 million (N139,200,000,000) in airport infrastructure, which includes the remodeling of the terminals and other safety critical equipment. If the Federal Government invested N139 billion naira to upgrade 11 airports around Nigeria and Enugu Airport got only N6 bilion of it, then why the celebration. Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Jos, Yola, Kano, Calabar and Kaduna airports had more budgetary allocations than Enugu Airports yet Afenifere, Arewa Consultative Forum, Middle Belt Forum, South South Peoples Assembly have not kowtowed before any Jonathan. The Governors of the South West, South South, North East, North West or North Central have never led any delegation to over praise Jonathan for upgrading their airports. President Jonathan had said that a new international terminal for the Enugu Airport will cost N13 billion naira. The question is, has any funds been committed to build the international terminal. Is there any budgetary allocation for the terminal for the year 2015? The answer is negative. Therefore the Enugu Airport project is a 419. What is the state of landing and safety equipment at the airport? This airport is a big risks to international airlines especially those from Europe, America, Asia, Middle East because it is international in propaganda and not in facilities. Egypt Air and South African Airways have rejected overtures to use the airport. The only airlines that had the magnanimity to use the Airport are Ethiopian Airline which operates three flights weekly to Addis Ababa and aids in connecting flights to some destinations. I thank the Ethiopian Airlines for having mercy on the marginalized citizens of Biafra. The Turkish Airlines signed agreement in principle as announced by Vice President Sambo a year ago but fled back to Greece after inspecting the equipments on the ground. If that airport is truly international airlines like Virgin Atlantic Airways, Lufthansa Airlines, British Airways, KLM, British Caledonian Airlines, Oatar Airways, Emirates Airlines will ply the route, but for now all overtures from certain quarters to lure these carriers to Enugu have failed woefully due to what they termed poor quality infrastructure. As at January, 2015, no airline from Europe, America, Asia and Middle East have landed or taken off from Enugu International Airport The airport lacks many safety landing facilities including the Doppler Weather Radar used for real time detection and tracking of hazardous weather systems such as thunderstorms, wind shear, turbulence, dust storms. This equipment was recently installed in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Maiduguri, Yola and none installed in Enugu. What of the Low Level Wind Shear Alert Systems (LLWAS) and RETIM Synergy Satellite Image Receivers among others critical landing, navigational and radar enhancement equipments of international standards. They are missing at the airport and no foreign airline will risk a crash. The international terminal is not there yet. The runway and aircraft hangers are always flooded whenever there is rainfall and many times passengers have to remove their shoes, fold their trousers to walk up the tarmac for boarding. This Enugu International Airport is another 419 on the Igbo nation and the foreigner airlines have dismissed the international status of the airport as a scam. When the emperors decide to actually give us an l airport the volume of activities, flights and passenger traffic will prove it- what we have is another International airport 419 on the Igbo nation and some fools are still celebrating. ~ By Obinna Akukwe profetobinna2@yahoo.com Speechless |

nedu2000: its because of diplomacy we don't want to admit it,islam is a religion of intolerance anyone in doubt should answer this simple question......which is riskier: insulting the pope/mary/Jesus at the vatican or insulting Mohammed at mecca? The problem is people always look at things from religious perspective. I can tell you categorically that there is freedom of speech everywhere in the world and whether people believe it or not there is freedom of speech in saudi, iran, just as there is freedom of speech in US, France, Russia and of course Nigeria. But what people fail to realise is that, although you are guaranteed your freedom of speech anywhere in the world, NOBODY CAN GUARANTY ANYBODY'S FREEDOM AFTER SPEECH. And this applies to all countries be it Saudi, Iran, US, France and of course Nigeria. People hold different things sacred. Edward Snowden exercised his FREEDOM OF SPEECH in US and now he doesn't have his FREEDOM AFTER SPEECH. Does that make US an intolerant country? You are free to go to India and exercise your freedom of speech and start mis-yarning about their temple gods, but bear in mind that you may lose your freedom after speech. People should be responsible enough to respect the society in which they live. In Saudi, it may be religious, in US it may be national security, in China it may be something else. Even the DSS will knock your door in Nigeria if you make some "unguarded" speeches. Know for sure you have freedom of speech, but no one can guaranty you freedom after speech anywhere in the world. |

Or are you expecting Lagos, Ogun, Kano and other APC controlled states to fold their arms and let SE/SS declare another round of 95% votes for pdp. SE/SS thought the other regions a big lesson in 2011 and now the chicken has come home to roost. SW and other APC controlled regions have massive blocks of unused votes and I am sure it will be unleashed in feBUHARI. It doesn't matter who emeka votes for in Katsina or Ikenna vote for in Osun. The same way they declared over 90% votes in 2011 will repeat itself. Just that this time around it will not be limited to SE/SS alone and also based on who has the highest registered voters in its regions. Don't be pained brother, what goes around comes around. |

Compare with a debt ridden economy GMB took over from Shagari. GMB introduced austerity hence the high unemployment rate. In an austerity, people will suffer before it bears dividends. IBB cut short GMB's austerity after 1 year 8 months, reversed most of GMB's policies and denied Nigerians the benefit of GMB's austerity.
This is a big lesson for those trying ever so hard to run down GMB. They should be very careful of what they post because examples are plenty to show gmb government was waaayyy better than this fraud of a gej administration. |

GEJ had 1/3 votes in the far North 2.5/3 votes in the MB
2.9/3 votes in the SS/SE
PDP just repeating the pattern again. In 2011 pdp won the required number of votes in the north with the use of child voters. I suspect there will still be child voters this time also, but the child voters will vote the other way. In south west people just decided to give him the opportunity to get some shoes since he had none and because of religious sentiments. I must say that even GEJ administration was very slow in equipping the army for this fight against terrorism. So if believe that the army has been neglected for so long with obsolete equipment, do you think that the Nigeria of today has the money to fully equip and train it's soldiers in 4 years to the standard it suppose to be? this things are done in phases.
I remember when the FG requested for loan of $1b to buy equipment, most people were against... will this war be fought with bare hands? just read what you posted. So because the budget was small (relatively compared to other advanced countries) that is why uncle gej gave roughly 1/4 of the nations budget to military every year and still didn't buy anything. I am not expecting the Nigerian Army to have the most sophisticated arsenal in the world. But again please don't tell me we had nothing prior to boko haram. It take a long time with too much investment, go and check how much other countries who are not even in war are spending on their army every year and compare it with Nigeria.
The decline in the military has been there, it will take much long time to fix, not even talking when doing it and executing a war at the same time. The government is doing it's best to equip the army, they are buying equipments which has not been easy.. the South Africa wahala, the USA and now the Saudis This is the kind of comments that pisses me off and makes me reply even when I just want to observe. I recall about 4 yrs ago when the defence budget was about 1/4th of the entire country. While I don't expect the nigerian army to rank among the best in the world, but to see our military (especially army and airforce) humiliated again and again by a group of terrorist with population less than 10,000 is just shameful to say the least. I don't understand what you meant that Emaka that voted for APC in south/west will Mistakely go to APC, It means you are a leaner sorry for quating. My argument is based on your theory that since Igbos make up a substantial population of virtually all the regions, it won't be that difficult for gej to win in those regions because of the block votes from igbos. This 2015 election by the grace of God will be free BUT it will go down in history to be the most scientifically rigged election ever. I fear we may have more votes than registered voters in this election - we have already seen signs of that in some pdp primaries. Do you think only PDP/SE has monopoly of rigging machinery? Yes you are right that pdp controls more states. But apart from SE pdp governors (which are less than 5), how many of the other pdp state governors will actually work for gej this time around? Do you sincerely think other regions will fold their arms and let SE produce another round of 99%, 99.5% votes for gej this time around. Why is it difficult for you to understand what I said will likely happen to Emeka's vote. I will try to make it simpler for you to comprehend: Even though the population of Igbos may be sizable in all regions (subject of another debate) there is a VERY HIGH CHANCE that Chukwudi's vote for pdp/gej in Ogun; Ikenna's vote for pdp/gej in Kano; Chinelo's vote for pdp/gej in Niger state will all be " mistakenly" counted for GMB as a counter measure to the scientific rigging by PDP and SE as we saw in 2011. and there's nothing you can do about it. E.g Emeka's vote in Lagos will be "mistakenly" counted for GMB even if he thumb-print for gej. The only place where Ada's vote will be counted for gej is in the SE and you guys are the least in numbers. |

semitunde: But its igbos with more voice than yours that keep trumpeting about marginalisation.
Anyways, I'd noted it long ago that igbos are not coherent politically and are not informed enough to see the link between political power and economy. They are too emotional and therefore end up not being forthright when required.
They are bipolar about what Nigeria represents as against Biafra and this make the individuals react differently to political situations. In the end the only cohesive Igbo group is the family unit. @ the bolded, I just decided to ignore the guy. |

Collynzo9: Your long epistle culminated in one thing.. the actualization of an Igbo President. However you forgot to tell us what special benefits an Igbo Presidency will bring to the average Igbo man citing examples with the Yorubas, Fulanis, Kanuris and Ijaws who have ruled before. Kai. You missed the point! The point is not just igbo presidency. The point is Igbo are not a major force to recon with politically. Igbo presidency is just a case study. Igbo has the least number of state. When it was time to create more state for SE to balance the anomaly, Igbo was yet again marginalised and instead of other regions to back ndi igbo up, others used the opportunity to request for even more state. WHY, because igbo has no allies and are busy creating more enemies. I am tempted to say SW, NC and other regions will probably get more states before SE. True. In a sane world, there shouldn't be anything special which tribe the president come from. But in Nigeria, SE have always claimed to be marginalised in Nigerian politics and whether you admit it or not, SE see gej as a pseudo SE candidate (that's partly why he emphasise Azikwe in his name). |

chukwudi44: That was exactly what Buhari thought in 2011 when he failed to campaign in the se/ss and see whert that got him. There are actually more igbos outside the se than within the se.That is why when you ignoramuses post figures of voters from each states and gloat over your supposed numerical superiority, I just laugh Unfortunately, the one in other regions will not be counted as SE votes. E.g Emeka's vote in Lagos will be " mistakenly" counted for GMB even if he thumb-print for gej. The only place where Ada's vote will be counted for gej is in the SE and you guys are the least in numbers. Goodluck Ebele Azikwe Jonathan can be argued on the floor of the senate as an Igbo president and you guys will lose not necessarily because you are the least in numbers but because you have no allies. |

It may already be too late for SE. That may be the reason some people would rather sink with GEJ. They'd rather look for any excuse no matter how silly or baseless not to vote GMB. I was told by a very respectable role model of mine that in life, their is no permanent enemy nor permanent friend - only permanent interest. You build bridges to save your interest. For example, the US interest in middle east is Israel. To preserve/secure that interest, the US build bridges and made many arab (SAUDI being the chief) countries her allies. The same US many Nigerians see as a near-perfect country has Saudi (a country many Nigerians see as the home of evil) as her biggest ally in the middle east.
SE has the least number of voters, the least number of states (and by extension the least number of governors), the least number of senators, the least number of local gov. the least number of rep members. Yet not only do they refuses to build bridges to the north and west, they even foolishly create enemies (lagos deportation is a classic example). If there is a debate in senate today about whether igbo has used their presidency turn going by their support for gej, igbo will lose out because they are the least in numbers and made very little allies if any. It will be interesting to see how only SE votes can produce an Igbo presidency. |
