The issue is that many poor people play lotto with procreation. I once met a poor man with 7 kids ( 5 boys, 2 girls) and he confided in me that he is confident that at least one of his five sons will be successful in life even if he did not send them to school.
Hence for a poor man with such mentality, the more kids that he have, the more his chance of producing the next Dangote.
It is really pathetic but poverty has made many people to reason like animals.

The fertility rate among poor people is alarming.
No money to afford the basic necessities of life but they will just be knacking themselves continuously and churning out children.
Then their children can’t go to good schools, end up with menial jobs, some get pregnant or get girls pregnant, some go into criminal activities/ prostitution and the poverty cycle continues to the next generation.

For every decision we make, the pros and cons have to be considered.
Truthfully, if I do relocate out of Nigeria, the main reasons will be the horrible state of insecurity and little hope for the general improvement of the quality of life in Nigeria.
God help us all.

Much like anywhere else, there are the intelligent and the ignorant.

For the most part, Nigerians are revered as being highly educated, hard-working individuals-- especially when they make their way to the U.S. and U.K. However, a small percentage of African Americans watch far too much television and believe that the African continent (as a whole) is impoverished, famished, and primitive. I'd say it's somewhat similar to our previous discussion of how Nigerians view us, as a result of negative media portrayal.

I’m glad he was convicted in the US where the judicial system works. If it were in Nigeria, he could have made some back room deal or bribed some people and escaped. It’s not uncommon to hear of selective “jailbreaks” or “vanished” convicts here.

Quite surprising because I thought there are more annoying housemates.

You’re thinking about state level where time is chopped off for good behavior. Fed doesn’t work that way at all. US Federal law mandates that at least 85% of federal sentences be served behind bars. No exceptions. Every federal prisoner in the US serves at least 85% of their sentence, just as Hushpuppi will. The average federal prisoner serves 88% of the sentence. And once his sentence is served, he won’t be deported back to Nigeria. The justice system in two other countries have already made it known that they want him next, and they both have extradition treaties with the US.

I hope he spends 100% of his sentence behind bars.
