PoliticsRe: What Is Lagos Doing With Its Subsidy Removal Fund? by Guk: 4:12pm On Jan 03, 2013
This one got me cracking...lol. Do you know what the population growth is between 2007 and 2012? Go and check out jamb records from 2007 to 2012. There has been a monumental increase in those taking and passing the exams. The percentages have been low but the figures are getting higher yearly because population is increasing geometrically. That has nothing to do with any state governments performance else we would now say that Abia and Delta state governments are doing very great because their graduating students numbers are even better than Lagos state, lol. That is an example of propaganda! How can thousands of technical students be employed to light up Lagos? What jobs is there in Lighting up a town? Is it to switch it on and off that requires hundreds and thousands of staff to do? How many streets in Lagos have street lights that require hundreds of technical graduates to maintain? Or is it to change the bulbs on the lights that require such jobs? The point is, the governor as usual is lying to the public with his eyes wide open. as we speak, most of the street lights around Moshood abiola and Agidingbi are not even working. lol.

@Lastpope, i cant recall now what is filled on Jamb form whether its State of origin or State of Education? If it is State of Origin, but i school elsewhere, then i don think the state shld be credited wt the glory or else statistics will be unfair.

Wt respect to technical graduates and street lights, wot i wld say is that govt is probably learning from their mistakes of the past wen they went for those useless Solar street light like those from 7up to State secretariat road.

If you are observant, you wld have started seeing new Black coloured Street light poles installed by these technical graduates wt each Light poles clearly number and they r available for rental for advert boards and mounting of CCTV on them

On November 13, 2012, we inspected our 540-unit Lagos HOMS project at Sangotedo; the on-going construction of road projects in Kasali Oluwo Street, Odo-Egiri Road, Igbonla Road, Salabiu Olanrewaju Street and Oba Animashaun Road; the combined High Court and Magistrate Court in Epe; the Epe Waterfront reclamation and shoreline protection project; and Oba’s Palace at Ilara-Epe. At Badore, we assessed the progress of the Badore Ferry Terminal and Jetty, the Langbasa Road, Ado-Kekere Street and Kajola Street in the Aja Area.

@Lastpope, you wrote: again, just look at the projects being talked about. LGA projects at best. Is that what you are doing with such huge IGR?

@Lastpope,It appears like such a Huge IGR as Btw Jan & Jun, =N=103B IGR was collected by LASG representing just 70% average of what was hoped for, but do you also appreciate that Lagos has to take in 100s of new migrants on a daily basis thereby piling pressure on scare resources whilst other states are having less people to spend money on. In fairness, any state that looses its resident to anoda state shld release some of its Federal allocation to the receiving state.

Total Personnel Costs gulped N37.081 or 33% of IGR. Total Overhead Cost of N65.755bn gulped 58% of IGR, leaving little for projects moreso that Lagos State budget financing is largely revenue driven

@Lastpope,
Please this is why this thread was opened. The governor announced the award of water works contract. This is 6 years after he became governor and 1 year after collecting SURE-P money. and you are so quick to throw jibes at the FG? Is this not shameful. As we speak, there is no flowing pipe borne water in our houses. We all use wells and private boreholes in 2013! 13 years after ACN rule in Lagos state, citizens cannot have basic water in their houses, just announcements of contract awards.

The Governor also disclosed that the present administration in Lagos has put in place measures that are intended to provide water to the people in the short term, medium term and long term basis.

He said on the short term basis, 15 Mini Water Works each with a capacity for two million gallons of water have been earmarked for Lagos with eight already completed and handed over while the remaining seven are in various stages of completion.

“We have also worked on the power supply to Iju and Adiyan Water Works which hitherto was delivering 40 million gallons of water daily but now giving 105 Million gallons of water daily”.

In addition, Governor Fashola informed that each of the 15 Mini Water Works have 5km reticulation attached to it and line with these, the State Government intends to bring Private Sector Participation to take certain segments of the area, enumerate and determine piping and connection for such areas.

Governor Fashola added that part of the measures which has led to improved water supply across the State is acceleration of efforts on phase two of Adiyan water project so that people of Iju and Agege can also have water supply.

He revealed that Government also intends to build Odomola in Epe to serve the people of Victoria Island and Ikoyi who originally were expected to be catered for by the Adiyan Water works but which has not.
PoliticsRe: Reps Only Spent 107 Days In Plenary In 2012 by Guk: 2:18pm On Jan 03, 2013
HNosegbe: Some important points:

1. Lawmakers need to focus more on actual lawmaking and reduce time spent on oversight.

2. Lawmakers' salaries should be restructured to reflect the part-time nature of their work. Salaries should be paid PER SITTING.

3. Constituents need a reorientation on the role of a representative. The idea of "constituency projects" is a big misnomer. It is not a lawmaker's function to provide boreholes, scholarships, roads, schools and hospitals to his community... State governors and LGA chairmen should be held accountable for all these.

4. Lawmakers need to set annual targets with regard to the number of bills they intend to pass and communicate these to Nigerians every year so that they can be held accountable just like the president.

In a democracy, governance is a collaborative process. We cannot keep blaming the president for all the nation's woes and absolve lawmakers from their fair share of blame. We must begin to hold ALL arms and ALL tiers of government accountable for their (in)actions.
Bros, no flattering o, you have put it succinctly. For oversight functions, they should adopt "management by exception". Constituency projects should be scrapped or delivered through other means and shld be decided based on the real needs of the locals with their inputs in the choice.
PoliticsRe: FG To Buy 30 Airplanes To Reduce Airline Ticket by Guk: 2:10pm On Jan 03, 2013
As a Nation, we are obviously so unserious in our thinking....every one of us, one, for allowing such men and women to be our leaders and two, for allowing these people to continue in govt.

1st and foremost, the High taxes collected by govt on each ticket leads to the High cost of ticket. A ticket from Lagos to London on Virgin Atlantic for mid January costs 232k. Tax is 110k out of it.

thelastPope: My friend, what are you talking about?

1. You posted a link of the govenrment's budget quarterly performance report. How is that an answer to the thread?

2. The federal allocations is not even broken down in the report. What you have is a general "federal transfers" item. Meanwhile, the SURE_P allocation was not a part of the original 2012 budget. That is why the FG treats is as such for accountability purposes. You cannot just lump everything you receive from the FG as "federal transfer"? Federal transfers can include debts being paid by the FG.

3. Bayelsa state governor gives a monthly breakdown of the state's financials and it is broadcast live on AIT! That is an example of transparency. The breakdown is spelt out to the kobo. Please spare us these your jibes. There is nothing on that site that remotely answers the @op's question. That is not even a well laid out government site. A state government site that talks about prices of items in Lagos state? That is a big joke! What is the job of ministry of commerce and industry? What is the function of the ministry of commerce's website?

Please try again, thank you!
@Lastpope, i am begining to seriously enjoy you. You are a good candidate for tutorship. Let me move away from SURE_P allocation as you are bent on seeing it as a line item.

You state the irrelevance of Vital Statistical Data in the running of state huh 1st and foremost, thats a tool utilised by Ministry Of Economic Planning & Budget and made available for all and sundry including prospective investors in Lagos; Ministry of Commerce as you suggested so that duplication of duties and efforts are reduced resulting into cost savings and efficiency. It also helps with price benchmarking for supplies, so for insatnce, you cant supply Lagos State with a Laptop for an inflated price of =N=1m per Laptop as was bought by the senate a few years ago. Lagos has the going rate for all such items

Also, in Macroeconomics of Lagos state; for GDP computations, you need these Vital Statistical Data.
PoliticsRe: How PDP Can Win Lagos In 2015 by Guk: 1:12pm On Jan 03, 2013
I have just 2 questions to ask: Please read below and show me

(1) Anti people policies and Pro rich policies of LASG
(2) Provide me with Account/Stewardship rendering with verifiable facts of any PDP governor for those who want PDP in Lagos state.

Its not PDP, we should be rooting for, its good governance; accounatbility; transperency etc which evr party can provide it in Lagos

This is the 20th in the series of my 100-day account rendering Town-Hall meetings to you, the good people of Lagos. This occasion is significant because it coincides with 2,000 days of your partnership and support for our government; formed by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN); and freely elected by you. It remains a humbling privilege to be the lead public servant and we remain truly grateful and unassuming of your trust and confidence.

At the report presented on the 1,800-day, I had briefed you about the challenges we were facing in securing funding for the Mile 12-Ikorodu Road expansion and the court action that was delaying the construction of 660 housing units in Agbowa. We have since concluded the financing and commenced construction with about 584 people now employed in construction; and have awarded the construction contract for Mile 12-Ikorodu Road expansion.

At the 1,900-day event, I did not personally address you. It was decided that the heads of those involved departments should brief you about the work being done in your various constituencies.
I am aware of the entire proceedings in the East, West and Central Senatorial Districts and have held extensive meetings to put in place plans to address your concerns within the limits of our resources. Thank you for your active participation and support. We are all certainly better for it.

This is why we have commenced a statewide tour to assess the progress of on-going projects and have mobilised our budget to ensure the completion of those projects.
Today, we return to our usual format of reporting every 100 days with updates from my last report.

BUDGET
We have presented our 3rd Quarter Budget performance report of 65% for the 3rdQuarter. Combining the 1st through to the 3rd Quarter, we have delivered an aggregate performance of 72% so far.
We have also presented the budget estimates for 2013 to the state House of Assembly, and we are dedicated to finishing the 4th Quarter stronger than we did in the 3rd Quarter.

Some of the projects and programmes being delivered in your various local government and senatorial districts include: the award of 185 inner city road contracts; the award of 1,404 housing units, the award of the Adiyan Phase II 70 million gallons-per-day Water Project and the construction of a 60km pipeline network to be dedicated to such areas as Iju, Agege, Ifako-Ijaiye, Alimosho, Ojo and Ikeja.

We are also concluding plans to upgrade Ishasi Waterworks from 4mgd to 12mgd to service the Ijanikin-Badagry axis. On November 6, 2012, we visited Oyingbo Market and the two markets being built in Tejuosho; the 36-unit housing project in Shitta; the 60-unit housing project in Mushin, the expansion and concrete lining of the System-6c canal that passes through Itire; the reconstruction of the damaged Ilasamaja pedestrian overhead bridge and the reconstruction and expansion of Kodesoh Road in Ikeja.

EDUCATION
At the commencement of the reform process in 2007, the average number of students obtaining five credits including Mathematics and English was 7%. This year, we have reached 38.28%. For the first time, our state is now in the top 10 of the 36 States at the forefront of public education revival, and the only South-Western state in the top 10 this year.

In the last 100 days, our technical colleges graduated a total of 6,000 students; many of whom have been employed by private sector operators who are partnering us to design their curriculum to meet industry standards. The electrical graduates amongst them work with the Lagos State Electricity Board to light up Lagos. The renovations of the classroom block in Agidingbi Technical College were done by the students and not an external contractor. Our new Electronic Engineering Academy in Agidingbi was built in partnership with Samsung Electronics that guarantees employment for every child trained at the Centre.

HOUSING
We are currently constructing housing units in 10 sites in Igando, Omole Phase I & Phase II, Sangotedo, Mushin, Ilupeju, Agbowa, Ogba Phase I & Phase II, Surelere and Igbogbo. Employed are 882 main contactors, 836 sub-contractors, 1,835 artisans, 1,940 labourers, 905 suppliers and 49 food vendors; totalling 6,450 people employed in less than one year.
HEALTHCARE
We are rapidly coming to the completion of the Gbagada Heart & Kidney Centre, the Isolo General Hospital Mortuary and the Ayinke House. Our health missions continue to take basic healthcare for diagnosis and cure to our people in their communities, screening and treating them in their thousands for diabetes, hypertension and cancer. Our preventive health initiative at the grassroots level is taking shape in partnership with our local government chairmen. We have successfully trained and graduated the first batch of 300 graduate volunteers to serve.

AGRICULTURE
We are improving on rice cultivation, milling and bagging; poultry production and processing; fish and seafood production, education and provision of extension services to farmers. We held the first Lagos Seafood Festival to showcase our aquaculture potentials and to expose and export our very proud seafood menu beyond Lagos. Our quest to create farms outside our state is yielding results as we have acquired 500 hectares of land in Ogun State, to grow rice to feed our mill in Imota.

SPORTS AND TOURISM
In October, we hosted the 12th edition of the Governor’s Tennis Cup, which is the only International Tennis Federation sanctioned tournament in West Africa. The event attracted entries from 361 players from 30 countries. Taking a cue from this, a private sector company has launched an initiative called “Breaking the Mould”, which brought the world famous Williams Sisters - Venus and Serena - to Lagos. In the next few days, we will be hosting the 18th edition of the National Sports Festival and we expect up to 20,000 visitors who will bring in revenue.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
On May 29th 2012, we commissioned the Lagos Traffic Radio broadcast on 96.1 FM; to help commuters get advance information and plan their journey. Also, the new Traffic Law was signed into effect on August 2nd 2012. With on-going advocacy and the installation of over 17,000 road signs, we are experiencing more voluntary compliance and seeing improved driving culture. Between July—before the law came into effect—and September 2012, of the 13,322 people attending our Drivers’ Institute, about 10.1% had bad vision and have since been referred for corrective action to improve vision and return them back to the road.

Between August 2nd when the law came into effect and the end of September 2012, we noticed a 68.4% increase in attendance in the Drivers’ Institute. During the same period, 58,174 vehicles came in to obtain their Road Worthiness Certificates, a 20.9% increase from the period before the law. We also noticed a 48.4% increase in the issuance of drivers’ licence which should suggest safer drivers and accident reduction. More importantly, fines have reduced between July and September by 24.2%; contrary to the opposition’s claims, no amount of money can be a substitute for the lives of citizens we are entrusted to serve and protect.

Also, the number of vehicles arrested for various violations has dropped by 16.9%, arrests for driving against traffic decreased by 35.9% and BRT lane violations has decreased by 74.2%. The 25 general hospitals report that Okada-related accidents dropped by 18.73% in September while deaths recorded during the same period dropped by 42.86%. The Office of the Commissioner of Police reported a drop in Okada-related crimes by 30% in September and by 60% as at the end of October, when compared to the month of July, before the law came into effect.

Our recent monitoring and evaluation assessment report on the impact of the law reveals that:
a. 65% of people sampled after the law want to reduce alcohol intake as opposed to 30% before;
b. 93% now want to reduce drug intake as against 71% before the law;
c. 77% are now convinced that alcohol is a danger to them and their passengers if they drink and drive, as against 10% before the law; and
d. Only 4% now say they can still purchase alcohol within the motor park after the law, as against 58% before the law.

While we are not yet where we want to be, but I am positive that a lot of gains lie ahead. I do not believe that it is the desire of Lagosians to live in a state where people will act with impunity without regard to the safety of others. Despite our detractors and local challenges, we have started a BRT model of urban mass transit; which can only grow. I am happy also that the vision of my predecessors for an urban rail transport is now alive again with the construction of the Blue Line from Eric Moore; which has now reached Mile 2. Our BRT expansions to Badagry and Ikorodu Town are progressing.

I remain convinced that the legacy of public transportation Lagosians deserve is one that puts us on the global map and not one that condemns us to a dependency on foreign imports. This should be our path to sustainable prosperity and safety. I wish you all a merry Christmas and happy new year in 2013, and once again appeal to you to drive safely and think of your safety and that of others. Thank you for your attention.

thelastPope: At the bolded is laughable on 2 counts:

1. Lagos state government collects allocations from the FG which are generated from other states in Nigeria.

2. I am a Lagos state citizen as I pay my tax, probably ten times more than you can ever pay and contribute immensely to the IGR.

You are trying to skip accountability but it wont work. Open an FG thread if you want to talk about the FG. This is a thread on LASG and will remain so. I will not respond to your FG jibes here. They are only diversionary. What has Lagos done with 500 billion that is visible? Is it rail? Agriculture? Health? Roads? What? because I cant see anything worth such a huge amount. All I see are flowers and busstop and yellow and white lines on the roads. Is that 500 billion well spent?
@lastpope, please stop venting on Nairaland, Seun will not pay your bills for high blood pressure. Since you pay your tax, carry your tax card, lets meet at the next 100days report rendering by Fashola, i will find out when and where, lets ask this question and we shall surely get answer. See below for the last report rendering meeting. Its open to all. No SSS or MOPOL will shakara you there.

Its not a silly answer, its putting it in perspective becos you remarked that 540m is not a meagre amount and that it totals =N=6B, & am pointing out with a Pun that its meagre in the eyes of other irresponsible leaders and just also to remind you, that its simply the cost of just 3 OWAMBE banquet halls for some peeps shocked

thelastPope: I am am sorry, @Guk did absolutely nothing. He posted links to the state governments website. I have followed the link and there is no information there that answers the @op's question. There is actually nothing there, just the budget and numerous information on Lagos state statistics, prices of items, etc that aint so useful except to organisations that do business with government. There is no info there of what LASG did with the subsidy money. You have to understand that some of us dont just throw jibes. We follow information and we follow the government religiously to see what is going on.
@lastpope, what exactly do you want?? A Line item that reads SURE-P Lagos State usage??

You say there is no information?? You say you follow government religiously to see what is going on?? All you have just done on a forum of 100s of thousands in to LIE. I say you have lied because, a govt has provided you with verifiable facts about how much they collected from you; me; FG; Loans; Grants and other sources. thelastPope: 540 million per month is not a meager sum of money. That is over 6 billion per annum. That can transform the educational system in Lagos for good. The BRT system does not even alleviate 1/100 of Lagos transport needs. Do you see how people stand in the sun for hours everyday waiting for a bus? BRT is just a better looking molue. Still the 45 sitting, 99 standing story. Nothing to write home about in 2012.
Thats the same =N=6 billion that cannot build a BQ in Vice President Sambo's lodge grin grin grin grin. They need =N=16 billion to build the entire edifice

Sincere 9gerian: I ask again, what is the Lagos state doing with the unexpected EXTRA funds it receives courtesy of partial removal of fuel subsidy? Or is the funds being diverted to Tinu...'s pocket?
Whilst your question/demand is perfectly in order, this bolded portion is a mischievous and wont provide the answers you desire.

It is very likely, that in consonance with practice in LASG, they shall not set up an unnecessary committee like SURE-P to manage the money as there are Civil Servants on ground to do that cos thats what they are paid for anyway.

The money, though meagre, will simply be added to income and used to execute already planned projects. You dont need any fanfare to spend 540m in LASG.

In direct answer to your question, Lagos State publishes its quarterly report which itemises how much it earns and how much it spends and its available in the public domain for all to see. A simple search would have helped your query rather than sensationalising on Nairaland. Go here:http://www.lagosstate.gov.ng/subpage.php?k=35 http://www.lagosstate.gov.ng/pagemenus.php?p=57&k=22

Other approaches to obtaining answer to your question are: (1) Attend Fashola's every 100days report rendering meeting, questions are taken there (2)Send Ben Akabueze, Commissioner for Economic Planning & Budget, Lagos State and email or call him, he will respond to you. He also pastors a church, you can visiti him there on a sunday, he will give u an appointment with the officer who will provide you with the answer. In LASG, its as easy as that. ASK the right people and you shall RECEIVE. Ask on Nairaland and you will get abuses

As 2015 approaches, lets hold our votes in high esteem and vote for a technocrat with promising and confirmable code of conduct irrespective of party of affiliation. Should we find a saint contesting using PDP or LP or ANPP we should not fail to cast our vote but we will welcome it if ACN candidates go through open and fair primaries and no annointed by the Lion of Bourdillon cos by doing so always, Tinubu has made the ACN to truly stay true to its real meaning, Asiwaju Company of Nigeria. Lets shun Godfatherism. Its the only way the choice of ACN party members for Governorship can emerge, enough is enough, no more annointing. Eko no go spoil oh
I havent had a good Nairaland laff like this before. Your humour pass OBJ own grin grin grin grin

But on a Macroeconomic level, our state of benevolence is measuring up. It takes a Strong Hand to run a Megacity xterised by the following:Slums; Homelessness; Traffic congestion; Air pollution; Crime; Land pollution (Waste dumps); Urban sprawl(Spilling out of your own city and spilling into neighbors like Ogun state; Gentrification (Simply meaning, low income areas are bn bought over by the wealthy and regenerating such places and the poor who hitherto lived there have to move away. This happens in Lagos regularly, so much so that people have moved to lagos Ibadan expressway to live)

My rating of any political leader comes from the following yardstick below:

Consensus Oriented (An opinion or position reached by a group as a whole)

Participatory (the broad participation of constituents in the direction and operation of political systems)

Following the Rule of Law (citizens can expect to be treated fairly by a justified government. )

Effective and Efficient (Effective: Adequate to accomplish a purpose; producing the intended or expected result. Efficient: Performing or functioning in the best possible manner with the least waste of time and effort.

Lagosian would rather vote other party than PDP.
I have intentionally bolded that statement. Please list out the anti people policies and mention how each one affects all of us.

people on this forum write as if certain laws are made to benefit the rich and punish the poor?? All these so called Anti People policies affect all and sundry including Fashola himself (at least we all see him respecting the traffic laws) I drove past Fashola's convoy in the opposite direction and i didnt notice anything unusual except for some vehicle that has masts on top of it.

If you truly want a working state in Lagos, please lets support the good that these guys are doing. How many governors today can adequately manage a daily migration of hundreds of people into his domain.

Its interesting when people compare Lagos state to other state. Every state in Nigeria has less people to manage daily whilst Lagos takes from all other 35 states daily. Pls tell me how to manage this migration imbalance? Pls lets give honour to whom Honour is due. Babatunde Raji Fashola is Primus inter Pares!
PoliticsRe: The Truth About Fashola's Success by Guk: 11:17pm On Dec 25, 2012
thelastPope: Big question for these ACN trolls on NL

If Fashola is such a big success in Lagos like their media want us to believe, why did ACN loose several LGAs in the last LGA election to PDP and ACN had to rig it?

SMH at the level of propaganda from these peeps!

If you want to be sincere, then you have to talk in specifics, not this generalised successes you lot talk about.

What has he achieved in:

Education: Lagos schools are worse of today than they were 10 years ago. Dilapidated structures everywhere with not enough teachers and it isnt even free because the students still pay all sorts of fees. In Lagos, it is only the very poor who cant afford private schools that send their children to government schools. In Benin city, which is ironically another ACN state and in which the governor has done less time than Fashola, It is the other way around. People are widthdrawing their children from private schools and sending them to public schools because the public schools are great. Fashola is the only governor in Nigeria and in the history of Nigeria as far as I can recall, that has increased schools fees by over 1000%. He increased LASU school fees from 25k to 250k and as much as 300k for some courses. This is not even imaginable. It is as diabolical it gets. Then when the students protests, he sends in bruttal policemen to chase them away. Many have had to drop out from school because they cant afford it. This is the same guy who said the FG was too high handed by sending the army to Ojota

Health Care: This one is just humorous. Fashola and ACN in 13 years havent built one new hospital for Lagos. Still the old LUTH and general hospital. No change. Instead, they are praising him for renovating small 30 by 30 maternity centers. centers that where even renovated by MTN foundation, with their sign post conspiciously displayed. His only achievement here was to sack 788 doctors in one day. That is one of the worst administrative blunders in the history of Nigeria. I laughed when I read a previous post that he is a great administrator! Great administrator? Someone whose solution to doctors strike was to sack the whole doctors in the state? Ha! Is that how he will rule Nigeria? The presidential guard will pursue him back to Lagos! lol! If he cannot manage such crisis in one state of Nigeria, how will he manage Nigeria? Those who call GEJ clueless forget that he has continued to manage crisis after crisis and continues to pull everyone along. Love him or hate him, he has continued to hold everything together from North to south.

Roads: Its about six years now and Fashola cannot point to one major new road built in Lagos. I am still wondering where Lagos allocations go. It is funny that every time some credit is giving to Lagos in terms of facility and infrastructure, some of these ACN peeps quickly shout "Fashola is working" as if the facilities are built by Fashola. Lagos has become a business city powered fully by the private sector. All the infrastructures we enjoy in Lagos are built by the private sector, not Fashola. From the cinemas to shoprite to the various entertainment centers et al. I dont understand how that is Fashola working. Propaganda of course. After adding extra lanes to Lekki, he introduced toll gates to a residential area. I mean, that is a first again in Nigeria. Toll gates in a residential area? Some people go from Lekki area to main VI like 5 times daily and back and they have to pay toll fees each time they pass the road. And when the residents protest peacefully, the response, just like the LASU one, is a bruttal assault by his thugs in alliance with the police. He attacked hapless old men on a peaceful protest, yet some pumpkin heads here want us to believe he is a sane and civil guy. If it was GEJ that bruttalized people like that, these same political and tribal jingoist would not let us hear word on NL! Ridiculous to say the least!

Water ways: This is just a funny one. Promises and more promises right from Tinubu's time. Nothing has even left the ground. Total failure here. Nothing to talk about

Transportation: This to me should have been his biggest achievement, but the ban of Okada has rubbushed it. How? The ban of okada has shown that the BRT project is a failure. Totally inadequate. Doesnt even come close to solving half the problem of Lagos transportation. Now, people are trekking like real villagers that Fashola has turned them into and they are swearing for him while they trek. Lagos is now total chaos. The traffic has escalated like times 4. What Okada ban was supposed to achieve, has turn into a total disaster. 3 to 5 hours now to go from Ikeja to VI or back, gauranteed! The traffic is alraming now! No transport on the road. People wait at the busstop for 2,3 hours trying to get a bus or keke. That is the legacy of a failed administrator who knows nothing of how to manage a metropolitan city. He thinks you can just wave a magic wand and scare everyone into submission. And some propaganda crew here wants us to believe he can manage Nigeria. He tops it up with the enactment of the Lagos traffic law 2012. A draconian law that looks like it was written by arrogant baby lawyers. I have read and re-read the law and it makes for a fine comic relief. many of the laws there will not stand a challenge in court. They are as draconian as it gets and many parts of that law contradicts the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. The late Gani would have made a piece meal of it!

Public Amenities: Another big zero! Lagos, after 13 years of ACN rule, still doesnt have public water. I mean in 2012, you cannot open your tap and get clean portable water. You cannot even get unclean water, with all the water in Lagos. A city where you dig only 5 feet in some places and hit water, you cannot get pipe borne water in your house. Yet the state government collects all sorts of taxes like there is no tomorrow. I dont know how a government that cannot even provide something as basic as public water is considered fit to rule Nigeria. Only sychophants would endorse that!

After 13 years of ACN rule, Lagos still reminds me of the movie, slum dog millionaire! That movie should have been shot in Lagos. Would really fit! Fahosla is like a doctor who rubs skin lotion on a sore and closes his eye lid tightly, believing that when he opens his eyes, the sore would have been completely gone. That is what he did in places like Oshodi. He brought in bulldozers and task force agberos and chased everyone away and celebrated the clearing and cleaning of Oshodi. But he forgot that the dirt in Oshodi were created by a depraved and down trodden masses. So by clearing the dirt and not alleviating the plight of the depraved masses, he only rubbed body lotion over a bad sore. Now Oshodi is fast becoming like it was before. And several more Oshodis are springing up. Like Egbeda, Ketu, Ikorodu, Ojodu Berger and many more are becoming the new Oshodi because the problem was never solved. It just got replicated! Please if you want to talk about Fashola's achievements, talk specifics and we would take you serious. as for specifics, they are not impressive. They are all wash! Propaganda at its best. The strategy is simple. Do a project with 1 million naira and promote it with 100 million naira. Fashola will be a very good music artist manager in Nigeria!

Yes, she has every right to hold the Minister accountable as the Minister has gone on air countless times telling us about the billions of =N= she has spent and plans to spend on renovating the airports.

The escalator at MMIA is particularly bad and notorious in that when it works, people coming down usually run into a long queue of those already waiting to have their passport stamped and that is where people fall down. I have almost fallen there also and countless people fall down there regularly because of indifference and uncaring attitude of the operators of the airport.

If you talking about Oronto Douglas, that is a different matter. We can debate that. That is something that has been going on in Nigeria since I can remember. For your information, the military does provide the helicopters for hire. The police and military provide a lot of commercial services to the public. It is ignorant to think that all police and military service to the public is free. And if you think that GEJ sits in his office everyday allocating who will use helicopter, then you are also ignorant. These things are handled by protocol. And he has complete access and right to use any military helicopter available. That is what obtains all over the world.
Lets forget how it was done since you can remember, lets begin to insist on accountability and equity or else there will be no nigeria in the nearest future and we all might be refugees bn disdained by our neighbours whom we used to feed.

There is too much display of arrogance and uncaring attitude in the use of government resources in nigeria. That should have bn done by hos party vehicle, but "He doesnt give a damn" anyway

saintohia: A Muslim / Muslim ticket wouldn't work in present Nigeria, based on recent events , put that at the back of ur mind.

What really are Fashola's achievements?

I can only certify him credible when he stops extorting money from innocent Nigerians in the name of toll gate. The road (good road) is part of primary function of a responsible government.
A responsible government opens up the "Market" in their domain in such a manner that the market creates wealth and prosperity for all propotional to their position in the class structure. The government of Lagos state's projects in the last 10 years in comparison with other states have achieved that and that is why you see more and more businesses keep opening up in Lagos on a daily basis and people migrating tyo lagos for greener pastures daily.

This road you are refering to i.e Lekki Epe expressway has (1)appreciated the value of land and property in that neighbourhood so much so that poor land owners who are not even known to Fashola, all of a sudden are prosperous. (2) Building material sellers from Sand carriers in 50 year old land rovers to paving stone to all manner of artisans are busy 12 hours of the day. (3) Warehouses and Coporate offices; Entertainment centres and eateries all employing thousands of people on a daily basis are now there just because the road was opened up but all you can see is the toll you are to pay but when you are bubbling on Elegushi beach every weekend, you forget that if not for the opening up of that area. Ditto goes for Orile Badagry expressway.

You would also notice that each major neighbourhood is been opened up to have shopping malls so that they are self serving and that reduces the number rushing to V.I only on a daily basis.

How many states in Nigeria have constructed Houses; provided mortgages to those who qualify? Lagos has built over 1,000 houses for low income people and have a mortgage scheme also for those who need it.

Lagos state has the smallest cabinet in the whole of nigeria even though they generate the most money.

How many times have you heard Lagos state owning genuine contractors?

How manay times have you heard Lagos state not compensating those they took their genuine land and houses??

And to let you know how well Lagos state govt is bn run, you cannot inflate your tender for certain supplies as lagos state has a schedule of prices obtained directly from the market place so you cant sell Lagos state a laptop for =N=1m like the Senate bought a few years ago because they have all the prices.

A lot of people do not educate themselves on what state governments are doing and look beyond the facade. Lagos state publishes what they do on their website and its all verifiable

danjohn: Assuming ACN, CPC, and ANPP merge, would you vote for a Fashola/Shekarau Presidential ticket in 2015? Fashola is a media darling and will easily win the southwest and perform well (though not necessarily win) in the middle belt. Shekarau, raised his profile when he exceeded very low expectations in the 2011 Presidential debate. He was articulate and appeared like the kind of Northerner that Southerners would not mind voting for. The two biggest comma issues with this ticket are the following:

1. Do Buhari and Tinubu want to run for President or VP? If Buhari runs he will definitely get between 9 and 12 million votes and thus hurt the chances of this ticket. If Tinubu has national political ambitions, he could potentially frustrate Fahsola.

2. Will Goodluck get the 98% and 97% of votes that he got in the Southsouth and Southeast? For this ticket to succeed, the candidates will need to make inroads into the Southsouth and Southeast. Endorsements from people like Okorocha will help. However, the candidates have to make inroads before people like Okorocha can put their credibility on the line.

In my opinion, what this ticket would need is the full unequivocal endorsement of Buhari. That will give them 9 - 12 million votes to start with in the Core North. Fashola has the clout to deliver the Southwest and he has the goodwill to be competitive in the Middle Belt. The last piece of the puzzle will be the Southeast and the Southsouth. If Fashola gets more than 20% in those regions, he could be elected President.

What do you think?
Why must we do arranged marraigehuh

PoliticsRe: Power Generation Peaks At 4,350MW by Guk: 12:04pm On Dec 19, 2012
Idokojimmy: The nation’s power generation has hit a new peak of 4,349.7 megawatts, the Chairman, Presidential Task Force on Power, Mr. Beks Dagogo-Jack, has said.
Dagogo-Jack who disclosed this in a statement made available to our correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday, said the new record was set on Monday.

This comes on the heels of the recent shutdown of the Escravos gas plant belonging to Chevron Nigeria Limited, which led to the loss of 300MW for three weeks.
Although the task force chairman expressed delight at the new record, he pledged that the authorities in the power sector were working hard to surpass it.

“This is a very exciting and cheering news. To be clear, we are not surprised. We are fully focused as a team to prove to Nigerians that this government is serious about power and in spite of all the challenges on the way, power will grow from level to level as we progress. I assure you that the best is yet to come,” Dagogo-Jack said.
He commended the key operational players whose diligence, he said, contributed to the feat, adding that the systems operator and the team from the management contractor for the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Manitoba Hydro International, also played strategic roles in ensuring higher level of electricity generation.

Electricity generation in the country had hovered between 3,000 and 3,700MW for most part of the year. Even though the capacity for much higher generation exists, the country has not enjoyed the full benefits of the construction of more generating plants as a result of insufficient gas supply.

Power authorities on Friday raised hopes that the nation would generate 6,873MW of electricity by the end of 2013.
The Chief Executive Officer, Egbin Power Plc, Mr. Mike Uzoigwe, had said the authorities had set a target of 6,873MW for 2013.

Uzoigwe made the disclosure when the Chief Executive Officers of organisations in the Ministry of Power signed performance agreements with the Minister of State for Power, Mrs. Zainab Kuchi.
He said the successor companies to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria would generate 3,879MW, while the National Independent Power Producers would generate 2,500MW.

Uzoigwe said the target was agreed upon at a meeting attended by the minister, the Presidential Task Force on Power and the CEOs of all the successor companies where the capability and performance of all generation stations were reviewed.

“It is pertinent to note that some NIPP units have been fully inaugurated but cannot run due to gas supply associated problems. The Geregu power plant is still experiencing gas supply shortage,” he said.
Uzoigwe, however, said the availability of gas for the thermal stations was key to realising the projection.

ANALIST: Let's face the issue at hand " the best info minister or not". I humbly, think that most of all the commentators on this issue are correct. But how correct are they? This i must analyse in the next few minutes.

Every ministry has a mandate as has been submitted by all and sundry, to the president and in turn the president owe all to us whom he derives his legitimacy from.

Then we ask " what is the mandate of info minister under Maku, or any other that has held this tripartite position. I call it tripatite because the minister defends the government, himself and reorientate the citizenry on some misconceived issues or policies of government which might not go down well with everybody.

I must say that no one can be a perfect minister of information to everyone considering the fact that Everybody do not possess the equality of knowledge, wisdom and understanding to be qualified as a judge in the panel of panelist to adjudge who is the perfect info minister.

Then we ask again, what do the protagonists of Maku have in their credit and the antagonists equally argue against ?

Well Dearest, I think in my most submissive opinion that all the issues can be couched on this: IF YOU ARE HUMAN RIGHT ACTIVIST WHAT WILL YOU DO TO POLICY THAT IS CONTRARY TO THE PEOPLE? IF YOU ARE AN INFO MINISTER WHAT WILL YOU DO? IF YOU ARE A SOCIAL COMMENTATOR WHAT WILL YOU DO?

IF we can sincerely and umbiasely, answer all the question the consensus wiould not be far from blackmailing the minister, telling him where he is not doing much, rejecting the temptation of seeking relevance through social media and finalling thinking before lipping; for it is cowardice to lip before one thinks.
Thanks for your opinion.Thumbs up.

My own submission is that the guy is full of "Spin" making things appear to be what they are not. I wonder if these people have a consciense when they come out every wednesday after FEC meeting and you have to report on what you know is farce!! Difficult job but he seems to be enjoying the fact that he is getting away with fooling nigerians.

I can never forget the FEC meeting of January 4th when the nation was in arms over fuel subsidy removal, this guy was peddling false hood with a straight face. When it came to the turn of Minister Aganga to announce that the Fed govt had buses available and they wld be distributed within 10 days, he was so uncomfortable saying so because he knew he was lying!!

Maduale: The bolded caught my attention. He deserves commendation for pushing through that bill. I remember the politics that has delayed the formulation and passage of that bill for years.
Severally it was thrown out of the National Assembly and the media was agog with condemnations over the insincerity of government to pass the bill.
It was believed that the bill will usher in accountability and openness in the running of government. This is so because everybody can easily demand to have any information he deems fit about any ministry or department of govt.
I remember that the yaradua administration came under heavy criticsm for playing politics with the freedom of information bill. They were accused of dreading the bill while they moved very fast to accelerate the passage of official secrets Act. The official secrets Act was the direct opposite of FOI. It seeks to hide the very information which the FOI intends to expose.

If Maku came in and the FOI was passed, it's not mere coincidence. It could have been a product of courage and political will to let the FOI see the light of day. I salute him for that
Well, from media airing of the House of Reps proceedings, i think its Abike Dabiri that you should be praising for the passage BUT what use have we made of it i.e the FOI bill? Nothing!!! 2ndly, have we even read it and know how useful it really is as an FOIhuh

kooto: I wonder how you think, I seriously wonder, all this people you mention must be fools to you; that's why you are sorry and sad. I think you are a genius.
Not to worry, we shall be back here a year down the line to critically and objectively reflect on my statement. But in the meantime, can you concisely tell me where all this hype is leading to??

The Monopoly game is at least 80 years old and all of a sudden, we hype it like we just struck gold!!! The banks are sponsoring its launch;the governor is commisioning it because it is a lagos version, thousands of it will be donated to schools and then what?? Nowhere to be found in those schools after one year.

This one is just for a bunch of people whose minds drift back to their happy, carefree childhood years and said to themselves, why not create those times all over again? Read the reason why 1st bank is involved and you would find no substance in their reason http://www.thewillnigeria.com/general/17529.html
