European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Robin Van-Persie Is Off To Manchester United by Guk: 7:22am On Aug 16, 2012
cheddarking: You do realize United has spent around 50 million pounds this summer don't you?
And last season United signed Ashley Young and Phil Jones for a combined Total 0f 40 million pounds...
Liverpool last season spent almost 100 million pounds on transfers...
Please STFU if you know nothing about football....
@Cheddarking, 1st of all u r rude & disrespectful but uts obvious its as a resullt of laziness & ignorance. A toxic mix for a dullard who has access to the internet.

For the records: Man U has only signed Powell & Kagawa. Liverpool, Allen & Borini.
You also forget that last year, they wastefully spent 35m on Carrol becos they got 50m from Torres. And talking about the business aspect of football, which one of them have palyers of value or players sought after like Arsenal?? Check out how much Arsenal have made from selling players in the last 6 years? You cant have to sell if they are not of value.
On the footballing side though, Arsenal has disappointed but on the long run, they might be the only viable team left in EPL if care is not taken.

Let me leave you with a quote from Brendan Rodgers, the new Liverpool coach "Liverpool came within days of going bust under previous owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett and Rodgers added: "This is Liverpool Football Club and it's incredible to think it came close to bankruptcy.

"You may think it'll never happen to your club but who'd have thought it could to a team like Rangers?

"But if football continues to pay the wages some clubs do, you will be asking for it.

"If you believe it can't happen, well it can, maybe not now but certainly later. Look at Rangers' history. That is a warning for everyone."

Never happy to see a good player go but the arrival of Podoski who is a like for like for RVP was a clear handwriting on the wall & a pre-emptive move from Wenger.

I dont forsee Arsenal struggling if they can focus and possess that killer instinct especially with smaller teams like Norwich; Swansea; Stoke etc. london derbys are also key as thats 24 points up for grabs this season
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Robin Van-Persie Is Off To Manchester United by Guk: 11:02pm On Aug 15, 2012
There are a number of factors that make businesses cash in on prized assets. Since 2006, it has been pretty clear that Arsenal's business objective was to responsibly service their Emirates stadium loan & guess what, they are doing it sufficiently and the bankers are happy.

Ac Milan had to let Ibrahimovic and Thiago go to PSG because they wld have literally packed up if not.

Man U & Liverpool are presently disasters waiting to happen financially as their American owners have used them to borrow excessively and tied repayment to gate takings therefore Alex Ferguson and Brendan cannot compete favourably in the transfer market.

Watch out for implosion of clubs in Europe as they follow Portsmouth; Malaga; Rangers into financial abbyss

PoliticsRe: Fuel Subsidy Probe Report : House Of Reps Debate - Live by Guk: 3:39pm On Apr 24, 2012
Nigeria will only change before our eyes if

(1) the reps and senators stop probing the same probe that had bn probed by either of them...wots d duplication to achieve?? let them have a joint probe.

(2) the rep probes have bn barking out orders like military men, when will the bark out orders to themselves to account for constituency project hundreds of millions they collect annually

(3) wot moral locus standi does Min of Aviation Stella Oduah have that she is still in govt whilst at the same time, is a member of the cabal and GEJ frontline female campaign manager

(4) Whilst we all welcome the probes, they are using it to earn extra income for their pockets whilst neglecting law making. They hardly sit in parliament these days

(5) When the National Assembly members accept that the rot bn exposed thru the probes is their fault as they failed to carry out their oversight functions. let them be bold to produce audit reports of their oversight functions their respective committees had carried out in the past.

(6) They are all HYPOCRITES including Farouk Lawan who found it appropraite to call himself integrity grp in order to remove Patricia Etteh and proceed to install Bankole who made Etteh's sins pale into insignificance

(7) You wld notice that a lot is bn pushed to PIB!!! This PIB will never be revealed to us before they pass it into law and it will still favour the IOCs at the end of the day.

Chop and Quench people!!!
PoliticsRe: Bauchi’s Hopeless Budget by Guk: 12:23am On Apr 23, 2012
It is important that we examine this post objectively. It has absolutely nothing to do with El Rufai!!!! All he did, like any of us can do was to pick up an Official document of Bauchi state and highlight its content. El Rufai has done absolutely nothing wrong.

The budget highlights are fearful and if we continue at this rate with non-vialble states, nigeria will implode sooner than later.

We should also stop comparing other states with Lagos state in terms of loans. lagos and maybe one other state are the only one who dont need handout from FG to pay salaries. Lagos can conviniently pay salries from IGR and Lagos does not have up to 50 commissioners and SA's, probably the smallest govt in the whole of nigeria. No Oil producing state generates enough IGR to pay workers salaries.

As at 22nd of April, only 13 states out of 36 have a budget, so they are obviously operating on auto pilot....what a shame.

The big question is who or what institution is in place to ensure that state governors dont come up with destructive budgets like this year in year outhuh State Assemblieshuh Nay!!! they are all in the governors' pockets.....shame!!!

Lord help us!!!!!!!!

PoliticsRe: The Best Performing Minister In GEJ's Cabinet? by Guk: 5:07pm On Apr 04, 2012
Unfortunately GEJ has what can be described as a mixed multitude comprising of Sychophants; Its chop chop time; hypocrites; rabble rousers; naive; intelligent; experienced; bookworms; noise makers; grandstanders; proud and arrogant and those who have found themselves there but dont know how to exit.

In my own opinion: (1) Stella Oduah doesnt have the moral standing to remain there...mind you, there may be others who fall into her category....i say this because she and Okonjo have conflicting priorities for Nigeria. Stella is a major member of the Oil subsidy Cabal. Her position/yance on Nigeria economy conflicts with that of Okonjo.

(2)Stella Oduah again...she thoroughly messed Nigeria up in the BA saga last year as she did not do thorough investigation of the ARIK/BMI slot saga (b4 ignorant sychopants on NL jump on me, ARIK bought BMI slots on the 2ndary market. Up to that time, BMI was owned by Lufthansa. Lufthansa decided to divest from BMI as it was not profitable. In so doing, BA moved in and bought the slots that BMI was giving up as a result of Luthansa divestment.....Oduah begin grandstand say BA push ARIK comot.

(3) Okonjo has seen that she is in the midst of wolves and her Oga is the head of the pack so she is seeking to use World bank presidency as an exit strategy. She was deeply humilated by revelations unknown during the fuel subsidy brohahu. I remember 1 question that caught her terribly off balance "Account for the savings on removal of Diesel subsidy...she begin stammer

(4)Adesina..Agric minister: Too much English speaking and posturing....am wary of too much talk and no tangible foundation. Although, if the Cotton initiative in the North works out well...kudos to him.

(4)Ladan Maku.....having a ball....he is having a time of his life...watch out for him every wednesday after FEC meeting...he revels in the press briefings....chop and quench man!!

(5) Aganga...shld have resigned when he was sidelined...he is obviously struggling and doesnt know how to exit....he struggled to tell us about the 1000+ buses in early january FEC press briefing becos he knew he was bn told to tell us a big fat lie and was uncomfortable with it

(6)Madam Education: Has struggled from day 1.....no meaningful policy yet that will go a long way...wont be suprised if she is removed...but Patience will prevail on her husband not to remove a woman...she might be reshuffled.

(7) Minister of Defence; Minister of Works; Minister of National planning; Minister of Water resources; Minister of Transport......all these are politicians...so its job for the boys...you cant really expect much from them

(cool Minister of ICT:..Wel grounded; high intellectual capacity; new ministry....she needs at least 4 years for use to see strong foundation for the future but we aso need quick wins.......there is too much distraction of merging MDAs under her

(9) Minster of Youth: Abdulahi Bolaji....exuberant...NYSC posting to govt agencies not well thought out....how would overbloated civil servcie accommodate quarter of a million temporary staff annuallyhuh

(10) Almighthy Barth Nnaji......constantly fighting principalities and demons in the clothing of PHCN workers or so he makes it seem to us....i wish him well and support him in prayers...i need PHCN to work so that i can better utilise what i spend on power supply by myself to myself

(11) The 11th man on the field who used to have no shoes but now has plenty of it to play with......TOTALLY UNPREPARED FOR THE JOB.....CASTRATED BY THE LIKES OF STELLA ODUAH WHO LED HIS ELECTION CAMPAIGN AND NOW, ITS PAYBACK TIME.....UNSTABLE AND DOUBLE MINDED. SPENDS MONEY LIKE RIVER WATER.....DOESNT HAVE THE BALLS TO TAKE ON THE LIKES OF DAVID MARK(A BRUTUS FROM THE BOOK JULIUS CEASER).....HE ALLOWED HIMSELF TO BE ILLADVISED ON FUEL SUBSIDY......ENTRAPPED HIMSELF WHEN HE BROUGHT IN THE LIKES OF DANGOTE; OTEDOLA & OTHER BUSINESSMEN INTO THE NATION'S ECONOMIC MGT TEAM. U DONT DO SUCH.......NAIVE AS HE NOOSED HIMSELF IN THE OTUEKE CHURCH GIFT BY A CONTRACTOR.......DOESNT POSSESS THE CLOUT INCLUDING INTELLECTUAL CLOUT TO MANAGE THOSE SUPERIOR TO HIM INTELLECTUALLY(OKONJO; ADESINA; AGANGA; MOBOLA JOHNSON, BARTH NNAJI)....BUT IN ALL...A GOOD GUY...ALTHOUGH WE NEED MORE THAN A GOOD GUY FOR NIGERIA AT THIS TIME
TravelRe: Britain Warns Nigeria Over Threat To Ban Virgin & British Airways by Guk: 8:53am On Mar 28, 2012
First of all, Aviation Minister Stella Oduah is not a person to be taken seriously. She lacks objectivity and is extremely hypocritical. (1)A few months ago, she thoroughly embarrased Nigeria wt the ARIK Air saga because not even the simplest investigation was done to find out the cause of ARIK's loss of landing slots. (2)We were told that BA's flights will be restored to 14 uptill 31st Dec 2011 after which the 2 flights/day ban will commence. Your conclusion is as good as mine....we were taken as mumu again by Stella Oduah (3) She belongs to the Oil Subsidy Cabal and is one of those milking Nigeria daily. (4) She has an obvious bias against the United Kingdom. Lufthansa to Frankfurt is more expensive than Lagos to London so why single out BA & Virgin. ARIK is not cheap as well, they charge just as much economy fare as BA & Virgin if you understand seat pricing.

If you believe anything that woman says, then you can believe any s_ _ t!

faithin9ja's comments have summed it all up.

For the lazy govt officials and their sychophantic supporters on Nairaland, ther are a number of things that contribute to Nigeria been more expensive than Ghana e.g; Airport tax; Landing charges; Security charges; Parking charges; Overflight fees. Outsourcing services by Maevis. The one that will even further raise airfares and is generating anger world wide is EU airline pollution charges which started Jan 1.

Whilst i advocate for right pricing, a lot needs to be done by our govt to stop cheating us instead of making stupid pronouncements on TV that mean jack
PoliticsRe: Herman Hembe Steps Down As Chair Of Capital Market Probe by Guk: 4:25pm On Mar 20, 2012
Much as the terms of reference of the Capital Market probe have been overshadowed by mudslinging, we need to to very clear and objective about this probe.

(1) What the probe should be asking Ms Otteh and Mr Onyeama is how they are plugging loopholes and putting policies in place that will prevent re-occurence of abuse as evident during the boom days.

(2) Mrs Ndidi and Mr Faki should be the ones on the hot seat explaining why the stock market crashed under their watch. Ms Otteh is been questioned as if she crashed the market.

(3) They should be questioning the people Ms Otteh reports to on how they are ensuring she is complying with the rules governing SEC & NSE

(4) Honourable Hembe had to resign because it is fraud to collect Air ticket; Estacode and Hotel money for travel to Dominican republic, you dont travel and you dont return the monies. Who amongst us will give such out and not expect it to be retired. It shows the arrogance of our Reps on how they think they can get away with anything. I wonder how many more reps have collected such and never travelled and chopped the money.

(5) As for Ms Otteh, the jury is out on her....she needs to provide documentary evidence to address issues raised against her

(6) Lastly, year in year out our Legislators and Senators collect hundreds of millions of naira for constituency projects for development of each constituency they represent. Are we holding them accountable for sums collected and projects delivered or undeliveredhuh??

TravelRe: FG Fines British Airways $135M & Virgin Atlantic $100M Over Ticket Prices by Guk: 8:40pm On Nov 17, 2011
I wait to see where all this is leading to. Personally, i look forward to a fare reduction but i see too much hypocrisy and double speak.

This seriously puzzles me because i know that the Nigerian govt is one of the reasons why our airfares are high. The taxes charged by Nigerian govt is just too high but presently, British Airways, Ryanair, easyjet and Virgin Atlantic are fighting their own govt to scrap Air Passenger Duty in United Kingdom which costs $94

Take a look at this:
Lagos To:  Accra on Aero Contractors
Fare Calculation:
1 Adult fare single of  NGN 5000.00
0 Child fare total of    NGN 0
0 Infant fare single of  NGN 0

Total Fare including taxes is NGN 15750.00

That means tax is N10,750. That is double the Air fare itself

British Airways Lagos to London(Return) Airfare $ 497.00 Taxes $ 559.06 (This is shared between Nigerian govt; FAAN; BA; British govt & BAA)

ARIK Air Lagos to London(Return) Airfare =N=70,021 Taxes =N=85,4446 (This is shared between Nigerian govt; FAAN; ARIK; British govt & BAA)

Lufthansa Lagos to Frankfurt (Return) Airfare $ 629.00 Taxes $ 512.06

All the Airlines charge about the same amount, so why single out BA & VA.

Just last week, GEJ was cajoling foreign investors. A week later, his lieutenants are shooting from the hips. Strikes me as an Oxymoron
TravelRe: British Govt Re-issues Arik Air's Landing Slots In London by Guk: 6:46pm On Nov 16, 2011
Is this a joke or somethinghuh Why are Nigerians easily fooled? Your govt does a U Turn over a situation they took a rash decision on in the first place and people are applauding them. No wonder our leaders take us for a ride. Its simply becos we are easily fooled.

The story in Daily Times is kindergaten journalism,

This is the real story as delivered by the S.A to the Minister:

“The issues are being resolved and negotiations with the British government are ongoing. In the meantime, BA flights will continue seven times a week to Lagos until the end of December,” the Special Assistant to the Minister, Mr. Joel Obi, told Reuters.

Although the UK government had promised to assist the Nigerian carrier recover its landing and take-off slots at Heathrow, the officials, however, insisted that the slots had to be paid for.

The development, which did not go down well with the Nigerian officials, it was learnt, made the government to consider making foreign carriers operating in the country to also pay for landing and take off slots at the MMIA

A statement issued by Obi, however, confirmed the latest development.

The statement read in part, “The Nigerian government and the British authorities held high-level negotiations yesterday (Monday) and this morning. These discussions are still ongoing. The outcomes thus far are as follows:

With respect to slot at Heathrow airport, seven slots per week from Abuja have been secured for Arik Air at prevailing commercial rates. As you are aware, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria is renovating and upgrading its airports. These efforts will require a review of current slot allocations and additional funding. Towards this end, FAAN is considering applying commercial slot rates for slots into Murtala Mohammed International Airport in the spirit of the Bilateral Air Service Agreement.”

The statement added, “With respect to the high fares charged by British Airways and the associated regional imbalance, the airline made an offer of a 20 per cent reduction in the lowest Business Class fare between Nigeria and the UK.
“The Nigerian side considered this as insufficient. The Nigerian government is still very concerned about the regional price disparity. We still strongly believe that this regional imbalance should be dismantled. In other words, BA should offer the same or similar fares from Nigeria to the UK as is the case in any other equidistant destination within West Africa.”

It is disheartning that states that are collecting 80billion and above from Federal govt still have their IGR quite low. It is expected that you will use that free money to develop the state in a manner to stimulate growth and commerce in order to generate Internal revenue. What this shows is that they just collect money from FG, blow it & life goes on. What a pity!!!

Now, am totally convinced that a lot of responders here are educated illiterates who are also too lazy to do simple investigation even with google at their disposal.

This is a move i can never support because it is repugnant and also business disincentive.

(1) Flight is cheaper from Ghana to London. Why is it cheaper?? The tax collected by the Nigerian govt make our tickets more expensive.

(2) BASA allows for 21 flights each to fly in UK and Nigeria. It does not choose the Airport for u. BA used to fly to Kano a few years ago. UK Airlines are fully utilising their 21 slots. Nigeria is not! Who's fault is thathuh
Nigeria claims that it is unfair & will review it. (Likely downwards) I cant begin to list stupidity of such action. What happens if ARIK; AERO; DANA; AIR Nigeria, suddenly can utilise the 21 slotshuh but you have reduced it to spite the British carriers and you cant review until the next review date. You kill your own peoples business.

(3) ACL annually, openly and transparently auction slots to fly into Heathrow via slottrader portal. All airlines bid, there is no mago mago. ARIK, like so many other airlines cant get exactly what they want, they then have to buy in the secondary market. Pure business sense tells u, dont overbid if your passenger load cannot sustain it.(Ask HITV ala EPL)

(4) Gatwick Airport is an alternative. Lots of Airlines use it and bus their passengers to Heathrow at no extra cost. A nigerian is the CEO of Gatwick Airport, maybe he might listen to Stella Oduah's charm.

(5) Local contractors will have their businesses affected by the reduction in flight which may in turn lead to redundancy.

(6) The in flight food provider quoted on our Stock exchange will lose out "minimally"

(7) We are signatories to a number of Airline conventions. You dont just wake up and flagrantly violate them because ARIK loses slots it cant economically sustain. It show an irresponsible govt

(cool Its an embarrassment to Segun Aganga Min of Trade and Investment who is trying to woo foreign investors. One of the major hinderances to foreign investment in Nigeria is banana republic type of action just taken. Inconsistent policies; Flagrant violation of laid down rules etc

(9) Stella Oduah and ARIK have created a diplomatic mess for Foreign Affairs minister to clean up

(10) Shows how incapable GEJ is as an Administrator. You dont allow your surbodinates to go around embarrassing your govt and nation like this.

(11) For those refering to and hailing Abacha's action then, SHAME on you. Its either you dont know what happened, which is no excuse or you are just plain ignorant. For your info. The British Airport Authority back then denied Nigeria Airways landing rights at Heathrow simply because they did not meet minimum standards. They had been given enough time to work on their aircrafts but chose not to & Nigeria Airways was not the only Airline denied. In retaliation Abacha banned British Airways for 2 years. It was an unhailed move. The eductated; literate and well informed also do not hail this present action. Its an irresponsible one that throws up our thinking as a nation
