speedyboi: SMH...anything that's not done in Naija, Leaders are the reason....it has become an anthem.

@OP, I hope you know those in FERMA are civil servants (Nigerians like you) who have refused to do their Job? Right? Or you think the president and FCT minister are the ones who's supposed to go about fixing roads and streetlights?
If we refuse to take responsibilities for everything Nigeria is suffering from, No change is coming. FACT!!!.

that aside, @Op, did you call FERMA's number to inform them about the bad traffic light and they didn't fix it before you are posting on NL? Or you think they have supernatural power to sense bad traffic lights?(I know Naija people believe in witch craft well well grin)? I'm sure your answer will be NO.
Mtcheew, Nigerians won't even play their parts, they were brought up to pass blames

Bros, we blame our leaders because they are heftily paid to do basic routine jobs & they are not delivering. It is their full responsibility to oversee what their surbodinates are doing.
If your houseboys pours trash in front of your house instead of inside the dustin, and the authorities are looking for who to fine, who will they ask for to hold accountable? The occupant or the houseboy? Pls stop defending irresponsible uncaring leaders

thelastPope: My point is simple. It is good to criticize government to keep them on their toes and move Nigeria forward but such criticisms must be intelligent. Not some dumb posts and thread like this one. Abuja is amongst one of the finest cities in Africa. Like many other beautifl african cities, it also has its flaws. Joburg is full of many shanties and slums. Focus of criticising policies of government that will move Nigeria forward, not opening some cheap attention seeking thread
No post with authentic pictures are attention seeking. We need to continually bring to fore the negligence of those to whom we have paid tax but are not using it for the right purposes. Why should i pay Tax & still pay for shock absorbers and steering rack month after month.

The worst we can do to ourselves is compare our bad & negative with the bad & negative of other countries. What should concern us is what we want for ourselves and our country & if its 100% service provision, so be it, lets go for it! I couldnt really care less if streets in Frisco or Nevada were pot hole ridden, thats their own business
PoliticsRe: What Are The "Sins" Of President Jonathan? by Guk: 10:41am On May 02, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: As for the case of the pardon of Alams, though morally wrong, but it was a bitter pill the govt of GEJ has to swallow at this point in time. Presidents all over the world do grant pardon and most are controversial.

In conclusion, GEJ is certainly not perfect but the degree of HATE some people display towards the president is definitely disproportional to whatever "sins" the president may have committed. The curses, insults and derogatory names are misplaced and BASELESS.

No matter how you twist & turn this Alams matter, the fact remains that he is still a Fugitive; Escapee; Runaway; Absconder. A fugitive from justice, also known as a wanted person can either be a person convicted or accused of a crime, who is hiding from law enforcement in the state or taking refuge in a different country in order to avoid arrest in another country.

How do you or can ever explain away the pardoning of a wanted criminal?? Only a President who doesnt give a damn can do this. Please also remember that Metropolitan police found 1 million pounds sterling CASH! in his possession in his London home and thats the case he was undergoing
People should stop deceiving themselves in this country. It is not a disputable fact that the yatch belongs to Fashola. An average Politician in Nigeria is a criminal. It only disturbs me that the masses due to tribal sentiment or party afflictions have allowed themselves to be used in perpetrating grand corruption in Nigeria. Every resident in Lagos knows that the yatch belongs to Fashola. A right thinking person should know that Lagos State is not a place where such multi-billion naira yatch can be abandoned for four years and the state government will remain adamant MBANU!

PoliticsRe: Arewa Youths Reject FG’s N5.8bn Compensation For Post-election Violence by Guk: 12:57pm On Apr 26, 2013
Whilst the gesture is laudable, its obvious that its ill conceived & i base this on only 1 fact. Sheik Lemu who was the head of the Post Violence Committee just recently rejected participation in the Boko Haram dialogue committee becos govt neglected to implement his recommendations & then all of a sudden, we see him been sworn in as part of the same committee that he rejected & Pronto 5.8b is released.

It shows a number of things: (1) A culture of settlement by govt (2) A "Throw Money" approach to solving problems without ever seeking to eradicate it thru addressing root causes (3)GEJ thinks there is a bottomless pit of money to keep buying govt's way out of tigh corners which instead creates a habit of sleaze and corruption. Only God knows how excessively they are throwing money at the Power project without proportional results like we say in the case of Fuel subsidy & Airports renovation

In conclusion, a lot of us are unaware of the Wickedness in governance in Nigeria. 99.99% of those in power couldnt care less about your plight, infact, you dont exist to them & if you do, its to use you to make money. All the noise the govt makes about one project or the other is simply to line their pockets. The projects are unbelievebly over inflated whether its power; roads; airport or everyday governance. Legislators set up probe committes just to line their pockets even though they collect armed robbers salaries. Its is rumoured they collect 500k overnight allowance. All the politicians & the accompanying SSAs;SAs;TAs; & contract hunters are all adding to the destruction of Nigeria & we are aiding them by watching and then abusing ourselves along tribal lines on Social Media.

When are we going to Occupy Nigeria & force a change because we saw an Unfair list of Oil Block owners.

When are we going to Occupy Nigeria & force a change because we saw the list that a Senator goes home with =N=360,000,000 per annum.

When are we going to Occupy Nigeria & bring about a change because we have seen that Fuel Subsidy is a scam!

When are we going to Occupy Nigeria & bring about a change because we refuse govt to transfer the Subsidy payment of marketers to us when (1) we dont know the true cost of importation (2)our refineries have failed to work

When are we going to Occupy Nigeria & bring about a change because we see that our leaders are not representing us but their pockets only

When are we going to Occupy Nigeria & bring about a change because we see that the educational system has collapsed & we are only creating more Universities when the existing ones are hardly viable

When are we going to Occupy Nigeria & bring about a change because we see that the Judiciary is no longer the last bastion of hope for nigerians

NOI; SLS; Oby & other well meaning Nigerians are giving us promptings that they need our help to get things rightly done. They cannot fight the system from within as they wld be immediately sacked but they occassionally give us hints of what we should go up in arms for & put excessive pressure on the govt at all levels but we are to divided to hear; listen and act upon it & becos of that, the impunity of govt continues and if we continue to allow it, we might be known as refugees in the nearest future & no longer Nigerians. God help us to wake up!

As for us,we fail to understand a lot of things. (2) We fail to understand relativity.Because you have electricity in your neighbourhood for 72 hours but you are not likely to have for the next 1 week doesnt mean things are okay. We have bn reduced to accepting mediocrity. This is 2013 for crying out loud, how can anybody literate enough to use the internet be content wt this abysmally poor Power provisionhuh Its a big shame to applaud the level of electricity we are getting. I am sick & tired of hearing blames bn leveled at past govts. With the kind of money at our disposal, we should use it intelligently to provide power. Have we thought of sectional power provision that can then be collapsed into the national grid in future? Can we not learn from the principle of "VPN" in power as well? Its not new or unsual, examples abound or VPNs in power provision, its just left for the right thinking Ogs at te top to bring them together e.g, NLNG supplies 24 hour power to Bonny & Finima, that is a VPN. Rayfield in Jos enjoys constant power supply, that is a VPN; Lagos has a tiny facility on Marina that supplies Broad street & environs; some housing estates run gas fuelled gens 24/7.
Let each "Block' as you call them in America have their own VPNs that could then be collapsed into the national grid later.

As for us,we fail to understand a lot of things. (1) Change does not come by Huffing & Puffing. We are too into ourselves that nobody is ready to takes the pains or sacrifice for the next person. We have bn shapened over the years to think of ourselves only and not others. We are too proud to our detriment e.g, we look down on neighbouring countries, meanwhile, we beg, steal & borrow to send our children to school in Ghana & Lome. Shame on us!! Science/TechnologyRe: Cost Of Different Sources Of Electricity In Nigeria by Guk: 12:45pm On Apr 08, 2013
Barcholder: No there isn't. You are totally misinformed. The cost for a typical family to instantly become completely energy independent is N1.4m. That's it. No Research and Development is necessary. This is basic technology that is extensively used across the world. Why on earth do Nigerians think they are somehow unique? Every Western country is pushing Solar adoption as the answer to the energy crises being experienced, and these are countries that receive less than half the solar radiation Nigeria gets. Put another way, its more than twice as expensive in these countries to go solar.

And yet, Nigerians still come out with these factually incorrect statements. We are obviously waiting for the white man to go over and teach us about it, then we'll all say, Oh yes, you are right. Here are some facts for you - please feel free to research them:

1. Over 10% of all Australian households (850,000) now use solar to power their homes
2. Germany (a country with hardly any sunshine) now produces 22GW (or 22,000MW) of energy through solar. To give that some perspective, the entire Nigerian national grid produces 5GW (or 5,000MW).

Please reappraise your facts.

@Barcholder, pardon my language but you are talking too much english. Come to nigeria, we will gladly offer you a house, do a pilot run of your solar solution for 9 - 12months & then come back here and give us factual experience here. Trust me, if your pilot works, you will become a billionaire overnight as we shall all subscribe, but before then, ask yourself, have others not come to 9ja to install solar before you? Why is it not widely accepted (lets leave cost out of it & focus on performance)
Science/TechnologyRe: Cost Of Different Sources Of Electricity In Nigeria by Guk: 12:34pm On Apr 08, 2013
Barcholder: Absolutely right. Make no mistake, that day is coming very soon. As a UK based Nigerian, I can attest to the effect of privatisation of the national grid. Get ready for the doubling of grid electricity prices every 5 to 7 years. It won't be too long before PHCN is charging you 70 naira per kWh, now that Jonathan has given the green light for privatisation.

Solar energy prices are fixed. Let me assure you, if this situation was the same in the UK, EVERY SINGLE household would have gone solar by now.

I'm frequently left utterly perplexed by the workings of the typical Nigerian mind.
Am perplexed as to why you complain about high energy bills in UK but you have not changed over to solar?

PoliticsRe: Nigeria's Airports Are Improving Significantly - Arik by Guk: 6:16pm On Apr 01, 2013
TO THE CLOWNS IN POWER WHO NEVER FAIL TO DISAPPOINT BY CHEERY PICKING WHAT FAVOURS THEM IN A NEWS ARTICLE AND REFUSE TO SHED LIGHT ON THE REVELATIONS .. let me help you!

By Chinedu Eze In spite of the passenger surge on domestic routes this Easter holiday, Arik Air has said that it was yet to operate to full capacity. Arik operates 120 flights daily and airlifts over 12,000 passengers daily.

The airline lamented that lack of airfield lighting at some of the nation’s airports made it inevitable that no airline can operate into such airports beyond 6:00 pm despite the fact that there were passengers travelling to such destinations. Why are Nigeria Airports still without Airfield lighting in this day and age? I thought they said the airport renovation was total?

For instance, Arik said it increased its flights to Asaba airport from once a day to three times daily but its flights could not fly to Benin airport after 6:00 pm because for now it is a visual flight rule airport, which means that no aircraft can fly there in the night. Is this the same Benin Airport that the minister claim to have revamped yet Airliners cannot land in that airport beyond 6pm?

According to the airline, it is the same with the airports in Yola, Owerri, Kaduna, Enugu and Ilorin. The Acting Deputy Managing Director of Arik Air, Ado Sanusi, told THISDAY that the airline was operating at just 60 per cent of its capacity, noting that the airline was capable of doing about 240 but presently doing 120 daily flights. Sanusi said that the airline's planes are currently being underutilised because they operate average of seven hours daily instead of 11 hours. “The airline has the capacity to cope with demands of domestic air travellers. With adequate infrastructure at the nation's airports, Arik can deploy its full capacity. We have 23 functional aircraft,” Sanusi said.

Sanusi also said the industry had significantly improved in terms of infrastructural renewal at the airports after many years of neglect and expressed the hope that the remodelling programme would be extended to the airport runways, especially in the provision of airfield lighting. The acting deputy managing director noted that within two years under the present administration, many of the airports now wear new look and commended the Federal Government for the upgrade of the General Aviation Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, which is the main operational facility of the airline. “There are a lot of things to be done in the industry to make it better through a deliberate policy of government where the airlines can have operational environment that will enhance their provision of services because aviation is the catalyst of economic development of every nation, but this administration should be commended for what it has done so far,” Sanusi said. The Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, had recently assured that from this year till the end of 2014, all the airport runways would have airfield lighting and fully upgraded.

Perhaps you guys really need to understand that Nigerians are not as foolish as you lots think.... The fact that Arik Air can only utilize 60% of her capacity largely due to inadequate facilities at the local airports says alot about the much touted Airport remodeling. There is more to Aviation than using oil paint and tiles undecided
It is disheartning that Nigerians have bn pummeled to accept mediocrity. The truth be told & you can come back here in 1 year's time to take stock. (1) The work at the respective airports are misplaced priorities. It is INSANE to fix aesthetics before functionalities but we are too deceived by "fine for face" A functional airport must begin with neccesaries for take off & landing i.e proper Runway(s); Functional Control Towers wt Trained personnel; Runway lighting; Navigational aids; Constant power; perimeter restriction; Full blown security...remember hw every Tom, Dick & Harry were on the tarmac wen Emir of Kano was fleeing to UK after Boko Haram incident; embarking & disembarking equipment; Tug vehicles; Top class fire fighting equipment....i cld go on & on. All we have bn jubilating about are claddings on the wall; marble flooring & shine shine seats!!! Are those what make up airportshuh

Have you asked at what costs these airports are bn renovated?? Enough to build new ones.

This below is also a major problem that our govt is not addressing. Taxes that they collect; share and not accountable to us who pay it. See Below Lagos to Abuja. Tax is about 65%
Lagos - Abuja Fare Calculation:
1 Adult fare single of NGN 8363.00 Tax: NGN 14,417; Total Fare including taxes is NGN 22780.00

Adult fare return to London from Lagos on Virgin Atlantic (May 15 - June 3) =N=73,280 Tax =N=98,961 Including taxes, fees, charges and carrier imposed surcharge. What we pay in tax is more than cost of ticket.

Pls shine your eyes before you start rejoicing over aesthetics

No basis for comparison. Because USA President did something does not mean we should copy hook line and sinker & moreso circumstances differ.

The debate on Alams need not be elongated as the fact remains that (1) He is a wanted Fugitive as he jumped bail in UK & (2) As reported by the Metropolitan Police in UK, 1 million pounds sterling in cash was found in his house and he was facing money laundering charges before he absconded. He is neither a political or persecuted person in UK, he is a FUGITIVE & one day, the long hand of the law will pick him as UK police cannot keep holding on to 1 million pounds forever without a conclusion.

Pardoning a FUGITIVE has no place in any civilised part of the world except in banana republics

SportsRe: Nigeria’s Supporters Club To Acquire A Private Jet – Rafiu Ladipo by Guk: 10:29am On Mar 20, 2013
A lot of Nlanders are too trigger happy. The man has provided some facts that can be used for intelligent analysis.

His mention of a private jet does not connote a 19seater luxury plane. He will definitely be hung for that. A Boeing 737-800series that can take up to 150 passengers depending on the way it is configured is sufficient as that can do trips to any part of Africa directly from Lagos and 2 trips will sort the 300+ supporters out.

Yes, they travel up to 30 times as they provide support during CAF cups as well as U17; U20; U23 qualifiers for both male & female teams.

He has also provided an economic angle to it which can work either way i.e Buy & then make available to an airline for use wen they dont need it & cld be vice versa. A lot of pple dont realise that timeliness matters to be able to provide support at away matches. In developed world whr they have more supporters' clubs, there are loads of airlines waiting to be leased for next to nothing.

Whether the supporters club then has the machinery to manage this well is another ball game but, lets be open minded and constructive in our criticisms

Reference: By the way AERO only succeeded in rotary wing servicing the oil industry (as anyone will succeed) because the oil industry typically pays over the odds for its services. When they ventured into the 'real' market place to serve 'real' customers they immediately began to encounter 'real' problems.

We as Nigerians should learn to develop our economy that supports the real space we occupy and the people that live there rather than constantly strive to create these little delusional islands of prosperity amidst poverty. The oil industry is one, the banking industry after recap was another, the telecoms industry before the entry of the red (airtel) indians was another bubble and of course the airline industry which is no more than elitist transport.

They are inherently unstable because the two legs they stand on are diametric. They are MASS market business whose patrons are not the MASSES. So they cannot generate enough MASS to survive.
The maths added up, but you need to understand one simple thing. Cecilia Ibru used AERO to obtain loans it did not need & she just used it for whatever she chose too.

AERO ran a successful business model that we all need to sit down, analyse, adopt & adapt to diff situations and circumstances.

AERO originally serviced the oil industry and coommercial "charter" flights to Abuja where only those who could afford their tickets patronised them. In the late 1990s & early 2000s, PLC executives, MDs of corporations flew wt them. They were very professional. When PHC airport was shut down in the mid 2000s, they used Dash 8 propeller planes to fly into Airforce base.

AERO was profitable (1) becos of oil industry patronage (2)They were very professional (3) They kept down their overheads by outsourcing areas that were not their core business like Internet Portal and Food.(Food can cost a local airline up to 500m per annum)Outsource that and see the positive effect on your bottomline. The Internet Portal saved them Hundreds of millions of =N= in overheads.

AERO was also profitable becos of their Ticket differential pricing (which a lot of people misunderstood) it worked on a simple principle of, you buy early, you pay less but you buy later, you pay for yourself and the difference of what the early buyer paid. They also made tons of money from NO SHOW i.e, if you miss your flight and still wish to fly, you pay a penalty for not showing up and insome circustances, pay in addition, the difference between how much you bought the ticket and how much it is now.

The Ojora of Ijora land, Oba Fatai Oyeyinka Ojora on Monday declared the support of the Ojora Chieftaincy family for the plans of the state government to develop a Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme on the wide expanse of land in Iganmu Alawo in Ijora.

Addressing a press conference at his palace in Ijora on the issue, the monarch said the present state of facilities in the area is not conducive to exist in, adding that it lacks the major infrastructural facilities.

He explained that the area has become a nuisance and that some eight to ten years ago, the former administration in the state demolished the shanties that were in the area but that the structures returned after some time.

The Oba appealed to the residents of Iganmu Alawo to cooperate with the State Government on the proposed housing project, adding that it would be of immense benefit to the whole community and the state.

This is simply based on needs. for example, LASTMA impounds your car on friday after offices hv closed. Wld u rather wait till Monday to sort it out or sort it out on saturday? Same goes for land matters as people need service in those crtical areas at weekends.

I guess this is worse than giving the civil servants a 2 week christmas holiday huh

sportfeva: I mill advert per day, that's too subjective of you-business consultant. No sane fellow could believe that. Jumia and Konga should just work hard, really smart and hard on customer service relations pertaining to e-commerce. That will be a good start and leverage for them.
Do your numbers. Jumia, Konga & Dealdey have about 20 different per click ads between them running daily(24/7). Go to create an ad on Facebook and see how much it will cost.

Also on Google Adsense, they bid the highest to constantly appear. As i said, we have been there, so i know what i am refering to. Ask those who have done online ads ahy they are no longer doing them. Its simple cost.

jm8181: you're right. A rational person must analyze everything that includes Complete SWOT Analysis. Btw My simple point was ...Business Directory / or Local Search Engine isn't disappointing segment at all. It is a very good industry and Indeed this industry would grow further.
(now why it would be grow; how it would grow; - certainly I am not assuming here; It is based on Research conducted by Popular Mobile Adnetwork)

As far as VConnect's financial is concerned; I don't know to be very frankly. But one thing is for sure. Mocality had huge financial support from SA based Nasper group.
Vconnect belongs to the same group as Indomie and Panasonic & probably others. Its owned by Indians so the 1st thing you must realise is they are patronised by all Indian companies and friends of companies. That usually gives them an internal launch pad. Thats a clear advantage over a fresh Nigerian startup.

Mocality has roots in South of Africa. Mocality is broken into 2 distinct businesses (1)Mocality Directory Services (2)Deals.Mocality which is a deal of the day website.
