sarutobi: You just messed with by brain. Its about to explode. 1M naira daily? who does that?
Yes, 1M naira daily. Jumia; Konga & Dealdey are on Facebook 24 hours a day. They are also on Google Adsense. Dealz9ja used both media extensively last year and the advert budget was frightening! Theres also SMS cost; daily email cost etc. Na look before you leap biz O!
BusinessRe: Is Mocality Really Closing Down? Why? by Guk: 9:17pm On Feb 16, 2013
Dream1: The reason Dealdey works very well is because it is owned by E-motion. A major player in the Nigerian advertising market. They control about 40% of physical ad space on the island. This gives them an avenue to use some of that to their advantage. They also had to work up to where they have reached thus far. The first ad i ran with them, they demanded only about 10-15% commission. Now, they want almost 50% cos they now control that market. Dealdey also do a lot of online ads which targets the right people i.e people that already have internet access. I still doubt very must that Dealdey are making a massive profit but they will be able to survive based on their Sister company's strengths.
Its a good thing that this closing down came up as here a number of lessons to be learnt from it. Pls follow closely.

I am a Business Consultant to Dealz9ja www.dealzng.com/deals/all/ the only remaining competitor to Dealdey. The others in competition were (a) Deals.mocality (2) Rightdealz.com (3)Qlu Qlu (4)All4Naija. They are of now blessed memory.

Pls note that Deal of the Day website are cloned after Groupon and are totally diff from your regular Product websites like Webmallng; Konga; Jumia; Kamdora & such like.

Deal of the Day website DO NOT make a lot of money and could collapse anyday if you dont get your model right. Dealz9ja has bn sustainable becos, a niche has bn carved; subscriber base is sufficient to run at a profit; overheads were contained right from start up; areas that needed to be outsourced were done wt hard negotiations. The truth be told, cost of Adverts is the bleeding point. A typical month on Facebook is =N=500k How do you sustain such from even sharing 50% commission from your merchants? Meanwhile, Deals.Mocality had adverts on DSTV during 2012 Champions league and Olympics. You do not want to know how much such cost. I had predicted their downfall from them as it was not sustainable.

Dealdey has competitive advantage becos they are owned or supported by eMotion, an outdoor advert comapany that is awash with cash. eMotion is funded by ARM & ARM funds the Lekki Epe Expressway & thats why eMotion has the right to advertise exclusively on that prime location from Bonny cam all the way to Ajah and beyond.

Dealdey's commisions are high, and that has pushed some of their Merchants to Dealz9ja. This business is all about Strategy; Knowing the Market; playing the Market & sustaing your business model and grow organically as Dealz9ja can never match Dealdey in advert spending & is not even attempting to. hey have their own clientele & business is good & profitable.

As for Jumia & Konga, the jury is out on them. The Advertisement spend is HUMONGOUS, i hope it doesnt bring them down after a couple of years. Its just not sustainable. You are talking of advert spend of roughly a =N=1M daily!

In 2012 alone, over 5 dozen ecommerce bizs can online, over 90% are gone. Its a marathon biz not a sprint.

More later.....

samkay12: For the new BB, Just pop in any sim, get an internet plan and you will have access to the BBM and other BB services on BB10 with no need for the additional BIS monthly thing

hope this helps
The interesting thing is that i did not get any internet plan. All i did was to take an old MTN sim of mine to MTN office, they cut it into a Microsim for me, i popped it into the Z10, registered my email address that i use on my old BB and used the command Switch Device and all my contacts and mails were moved over seamlessly. I did not need to do a new subscription on d new BB and i am receiving emails on both BBs at the same time. Dont understand it though

Mikel; Mba and Moses did their job

Ideye was offensive and defensive...he helped out well

PoliticsRe: Jonathan Promises Fairness In Federal Appointments by Guk: 5:25pm On Jan 30, 2013
Donmams: Abuja - President Goodluck Jonathan said on Wednesday in Abuja that his administration would ensure equity and fairness in appointment to political offices and employment into the Federal Civil Service.

The president gave the assurance at the swearing-in ceremony of seven members of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), a member of the Federal Civil Service Commission and two permanent secretaries.

The ceremony took place in the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting.

In a remark shortly after the appointees took the Oath of Office, Jonathan said he had observed that all the geo-political zones complained of being marginalised on federal appointments.

He said that he deliberately delayed some pending political appointments in order to ensure that the complaints of marginalisation already received were taken care of.

``We are in an era where all the geo-political zones complain about marginalisation. All the geo-political zones complain that they are not given appointments. In fact, we have some pending appointments because of that.

``I have told the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to do proper analysis and probably to wait and accumulate the number. Probably if we accumulate them up to 12, when we want to make the appointments, we will make sure that all the geo-political zones get two each.

“In that case, your conscience will be clear. That is why some appointments are pending, which I believe we will deal with this week. I think they are about 12 or so. We will make sure that all the geo-political zones are accommodated.”

Jonathan challenged the newly sworn-in officials, especially members of the FCC not only to be up and doing in their duties, but to also comply with the commission’s establishment statute.

``Also the Civil Service Commission should be fair to all Nigerians. In employing Nigerians, you must ensure that all the States have what is due to them because we also know that some States are more than others.

``So when you are balancing equality of States, you must also be mindful of the population of each state. You must be aware of the laws guiding your job,’’ he said.

The president also urged the appointees to learn how to relate with their colleagues and to see Nigeria as one entity.

The seven members of the FCC include, Mr Uche Romanus (Imo); former Speaker of Benue House of Assembly and the first female Speaker in Nigeria and West Africa, Dr Margaret Icheen and former Member of the House of Representatives from Bayelsa, Mr Clement Agie.

Others are former Commissioner for Information, Nasarawa State, Mr Alakayi Mamman; former Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Bauchi State, Alhaji Yerima Giade; Dr Salihu Bello from Adamawa; and Alhaji Addo Ahmed, Jigawa.

Similarly, Dr Clement Ilo (Delta) and Dr Jemila Suara (Edo State) were sworn-in as federal permanent secretaries, while Alhaji Hassan Soko-Dabo (FCT), was sworn-in as member of the Federal Civil Service Commission. (NAN)

PoliticsRe: Akwa Ibom Airport Records 500,000 Passengers In 2 Years - Official by Guk: 3:10am On Jan 30, 2013
CFCfan: The Akwa Ibom State Special Adviser on Technical Matters, Engr.Etido Inyang, has revealed that the Ibom International Airport recorded over 500,000 passengers.

Inyang who gave the hint yesterday in Uyo while fielding questions from Journalists at the Correspondents Weekly Arena stated that the state will continue to run the International Airport until the Federal Government is ready to take it over.

He said that the State Government would not be deterred from raising the standard of the airport especially in the area of safety.

"Although we are using all the agencies of the Federal Government to run the airport, we will keep managing the airport like that until the Federal Government comes to take over the airport", he stated.

He maintained that the present situation does not affect the development of the airport. The Special Adviser also disclosed that President Goodluck Jonathan has indicated interest to work with the state towards the completion of the Maintenance, Repairs and Overhauling, MRO, facilities in the airport.

Inyang, who has been the secretary of the airport implementation committee, averred that his team went to work to ensure that the airport operates in line with the vision of Governor Godswill Akpabio.

Furthermore, he said, with approval of the construction of an International Terminal Building by the Governor, the facility would live up to its standard as the best airport in the country.

On road construction, Inyang hinted that most of the federal roads in the state would have been reconstructed and completed by now, but work was halted after the Federal Ministry of Works petitioned against state governments for building federal roads.

source: http://allafrica.com/stories/201301080322.html

False statement; False calculation.

Apart from Lagos; PH & Abuja, no other Airport in Nigeria handles 11.5 flights a day.

Nigeria has only 2 and a half functional Airlines today. AERO; ARIK & IRS. All the others except DANA are Executive Charter or 1 flight a day Airlines

thelastPope: When I first head Ms Oby's statement, I just laughed! Only in Nigeria do you find this kind of politics. You can hardly hear opposition parties make baseless and spurious claims like this in sane countries. How much does Nigeria make per Annum? Most Nigerians acually delude themselves to think Nigeria is a rich country with so much to spend. Nigeria is a poor country. Just compare your budget to the number of citizens and then compare to other countries and you will see how poor Nigeria is.
.
Oby is getting ready for politics and has to make a big entry so that is why she is making sensational statements. The reserve has never gone below $30 billion so her claims are outright false. But of course, I understand when the ACN/CPC crew jump on it. We know their goals. Those who love Nigeria will welcome criticisms, but from El Rufai to Ms Oby, it is a big joke!
@lastpope, as is often said, you can pretend for ever. Your true self is now revealing itself. instead of you to think and respond objectively, you spew out trash, symptomic of present day intellectually deficient nigerians.

Lets look at this on 2 fronts: (1) Accountability: Ezekwesili has asked for accounting and stewardship information. All you need is to provide facts and figures that disprove her claim. (2) GEJ; Maku; Reno Omokri all rolled into one combined do not possess the level on Integrity this woman has. Go and read up on her history. For, at least, close to 25 years now, this woman has beeen attested to, even by her friends and foe that she is clean; upright; fair; just; equitable. and judging by her twitter response, she is extremely mature.

Hardfact: Clearing truly abandoned vehicles off the roads in itself is welcome. Yet "three days" ultimatum, usual govt firebrigade attitude is something else. Again I hope our overzealous officials wont tag and tow just any vehicle they see all in name of abandoned vehicles, while those who've sold their souls will continue to shut their minds to simple reasoning. Official pronouncements usually diff from what's happening on ground.
From experience of the last exercise, the occupants of the neighbourhood are the ones that usually inform govt of the abandoned vehicles constituting nuisance in their area as govt does not hv logistics to go around looking for such all over lagos.

Officers of govt will then come and place a big "Owner Removal Warning" sticker giving d owner 30 days after wich they then come and tow. The number of vehicles were so much then, that some vehicles were only towed after abt 6 months
PoliticsRe: 3-day Ultimatum To Abandoned Vehicles’ Owners In Lagos by Guk: 8:06pm On Jan 24, 2013
Sagamite: The time given (3 days) is completely inappropriate.

Governments should make laws people can easily comply with.

How many towing companies and towing trucks are in Lagos? How many abandoned or immobile cars are on the streets of Lagos?

If all the towing trucks were utilised everyday, 24 hours a day (lets ignore the impossibility, considering security), will they be able to clear the cars?

I think not.

What if people are out of town now for a week?

A month notice would have been more appropriate.
Bros, you have bn to some block of flats where tenants who have moved out have left behind their unservicable vehicles or u havent bn to some inner city roads where its practically impossible to drive through becos of unservicable vehicles

There a vehicle abandoned on the road to my house for months & becos it was an untarred road, all the soil around it was eroded as cars passed by daily & one day the vehicle fell and blocked d entire road

PoliticsRe: Aviation Ministry Inaugurates Private-Jet Terminal by Guk: 5:59pm On Jan 22, 2013
Tolexander: The Federal Ministry of Aviation has inaugurated the first-ever private jet terminal at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The brief ceremony according to an online platform, The Citizen, was led by Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.

The completely remodelled terminal is in line with the Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah transformation agenda.

Speaking at the inauguration, Ekweremadu said: “This is a ministry which has done everything to appropriate properly, the monies allocated to it. I would like to comment the commend the president for helping us re-engineer the aviation sector.”

In the same vein, the Chairman House Committee on Aviation, Nkiruka Onyiocha dispelled rumours of the House and the Ministry of Aviation being at logger heads.

“We will continue to support you to ensure that the aviation sector will continue to move at this pace. We assure you of our support, and assure Nigerians that with the help of the National Assembly, we wish to see more transformation in other sectors,” she said.

Also present at the ceremony was the Director General of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr George Uriesi, Director General of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Harold Demuren, and the Director General of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

Highlighting the achievements of the event, Uriesi said the inaugurated private commercial terminal was the first of such recorded, stating that it opened business opportunities for Nigerians

“The private flight industry has grown the most all around the world, and the commercially important people will be provided these facilities, as also the business opportunities.

“I have no doubt in my mind, that we can be anything we choose to be. With the support we get from you. We will be able to change the passenger service we provide in Nigeria.”

Terminals that individuals can build. Are people so ignorant not to know that there are half a dozen of such terminals in Lagos? Aero Contractors has one by GAT it was quite popular in the days of flying Dash-8 planes to Base in PH; Bristow Helicopters has one, those who have flown Bristow to Eket will tell you this by Agege Motor road. Shell has one, those who have flown Shell jet to Warri & PH will tell u. Caverton has 1 by MMIA; There is a Helicopter terminal at former Mogambo gardens @ Jesu Oyingbo in Maryland Lagos; Caverton has Heliport on Ozumba Mbadiwe Rd V.I.

No matter what, there will always be arguments for and against and either side will stick to their guns no matter what.

In our arguments; theories; postulations, etc, we should also consider the following (1) Budgeting i.e to Provide a forecast of revenues and expenditures. (2)Accounting/Stewardship of monies spent (3) Charging: Recovery of cost. Cost + (profit) or Cost- (loss) or Cost = (Breakeven)

Taking a look at the Special Duties perceived Humongous provision for Chop Chop should be placed alongside (1) How it is funded? from Loans; IGR;or Charging (2) Is the Chop Chop appropraite or needful? & (3) Importantly, do the Agencies under the Special duties earn more than enough to fund their budget?? From perual, there are about 6 of them that are serious income generators for LASG & ultimately for the benefit of all Lagosians. LASG makes a lot of Money from PPP; LAMATA; Number Plate printing as it going to make billions from producing new number plates between now and september by when all cars in nigeria must have changed to new number plates and unless i am corrected, it is only that LASG company that is producing number plates for FRSC.

Objectivity and a holistic approach to discussions will be appreciated

I dont even want to read the bauchi budget because I believe the items will annoy me. Like if I see millions being spent on pilgrimage. But, my point is, that might just be what is obtainable in that part of the world. In terms of borrowing, you could say the same for LASG. They are borrowing massively too!
Point of correction, i didnt compare Lagos Budget wt Bauchi budget. I only used Bauchi as an example of Bad Budget wen u said there are none.

True, Lagos is borrowing massively, but for the umpteenth time, read this properly and you will see how LASG services its debts.http://www.lagosstate.gov.ng/subpage.php?k=35
LASG does not use loan to service debts. LASG IGR is enough to run the engine of the state and they can tie proceeds of the their projects to pay back loans see one explanation here https://www.nairaland.com/1164136/fashola-denies-obtaining-15m-export-import

Many of those states fully sponsors their students to try and force them to get good education else they will not even have 1 graduate in 5 years.
@lastpope, and you can defend this type of budget? I recall that u said you have abt 40+ pple in your employment, am not sure your budget wld look like Bauchi's

"The Bauchi State government budgeted N138.7 billion for 2012, an increase of about N21 billion over the amount in 2011. Yuguda intends to finance the 2012 budget with N69 billion from FAAC, a paltry N7.3 billion as IGR and another N58 billion as loans. In what should be a violation of any sound fiscal responsibility law, nearly 40% of the budget will be financed through borrowing for two years in a row. In 2011, Bauchi State’s domestic debt was about N91 billion, so by the end of the year, Bauchi would be in debt to the tune of some N150 billion. Public debt charges this year is some N6.3 billion and rising. It looks like Yuguda is determined to leave behind a debt-ridden, if not financially insolvent state!"

"Lagos state is one of the few in the country which has a well detailed and structured budget made available to the public on the state Government’s website which is fully functional. The budgets are properly explained and broken down by the MDAs with expenditures and revenues properly accounted for. Also, the state posts its budget performance reviews online which indicates transparency and accountability in governance. It is ironic that even with the enactment of freedom of information and fiscal responsibility acts, most State Governments still hide their budgets and breakdowns from the citizens of their states and the general public."
