If poverty in Nigeria is fixed, people will do all this. Vietnam already has branches of popular game companies. A large amount of indian devs were part of the team that made dishonoured become human. Poverty needs to die in Nigeria first and people will code the moon.
For real.

This is even better. A gang of 4 decided to have a football academy in one of the best estates in mainland (Lagos). We write letter to the chairman Association and we booked appointment for the following week. They asked us of goals and vision. After the meeting, the following 3 or 5th weeks as I passed through the field I saw children playing football there with a customized jersey. Emerging, they stole our brain and seized the opportunity. This is Nigerian!!!

#Storytime.
I Once went to the bank to pitch one of my products (a lean startup under Pantakers) to one of the popular Banks in Abuja, after talking about the partnership type and showing my prototypes and idea, carelessly the lady just looked straight at me and said.

"No1 I don't understand what you are talking about.

No2 you can have access to any facility either in loan or fund from the bank".

This statement almost killed me immediately, mhen entrepreneurs in Africa especially Nigeria are suffering oo, with tears in my eyes .
I left there knowing that God that gave me the idea will water it and those banks will one day come and beg to invest in my idea.
No 2. Can or Can't?

Kidnap used to be a big challenge in the south. However, when the north joined the business, they took it to the next level. Today, they don't even kidnap one or two persons, the north does mass abduction (kidnaps people in their numbers) and gets the victims' families or the govt to pay the ransom.

The south tends to be leading in Yahoo-yahoo because an average northerner is probably not as smart as a southerner. Who knows? When the north grows a category of fraudsters who can excel in fraud, they will probably empty the US Federal Reserve. US Institute of Peace, wait for it because you haven't seen the best of Nigeria yet grin

No matter how you look at it, they had it so much better... Waayyy better.
Nothing depressing about it.

Yes they lived through the military era and saw firsthand what that was like, but it was still a better deal than what we have now.

Nigeria/Nigerians didn't have such a bad rep in the eyes of the world back then.

And who told you there were no jobs?

Just having a university degree guaranteed you a job without the need for man-know-man or bribing your way into federal agencies.
My dad with his University of Ibadan 2'2 degree didn't stay without work for up to 3 months after serving – got a really good job for that matter.

Nigerians could travel easier back then and even though the standard of living wasn't all that high, things were affordable in comparison.
Today, the standard of living is low (even lower if we're being honest), yet commodities aren't that affordable.

The internet age, satellite TV, and advent of mobile devices which ushered in the era of remote jobs and internet-based sources of income, also came with the introduction of make-believe lifestyles from watching reality shows like MTV cribs, KUWTK, etc...
Young Nigerians became obsessed with living wealthy lifestyles and acquiring expensive things (even when unnecessary).

Please there's no comparison to be made...

Older Nigerians definitely had a much better Nigeria than we do now. It wasn't heaven then, but it still wasn't as hellish as it is now.
People actually lived in Nigeria back then, but what people are doing now is surviving – there's a big difference.

I can't even take my car to a random mechanic to fix for me because they will bill me like a yahoo boy. lipsrsealed
Internet fraudsters who don't mind paying whatever price they're told to pay for anything, have succeeded in contributing to inflation.

All those overpriced estates in places like Lekki built on top of reclaimed land that is just hoping/praying the sea doesn't develop mood swing, do you think if they were not seeing people to buy them, they won't drop the prices?

My brother, the overall mentality of Nigerians is very different now from what it was then.

Although it's not that the country was European-standard for older Nigerians back then, but contentment seemed to be more prevalent as people were okay with just having the basics/having just what was necessary.

I have a lot more I could type on this topic, but I've exceeded my social media allocated time for today. grin
Keyword: Contentment

Unfortunately that is something many Nigerians might never experience in today's Nigeria

Omho and we abuse them for destroying the country. These guys suffered so much.
The military regime was crazy.

I remember as a kid we were on our way to Sheraton hotel and we didn't know that IBB had annulled the June 12 elections. Omo come see soldiers everywhere. See fear for old boy face grin

In those days soldiers could fvck you up overnight and no one would be able to save you.

If anything this generation has it the best but the problem is the idiots who messed up the country then are still circulating themselves in power.

Until the youths can find a way to kill them all off nothing will move forward.

The older generation can't help because they have already accepted their fate.

God shocked shocked. Afternoon siesta. Chei no wonder the country got poorer. Chinese folks then were building. Nigerians were sleeping. Oh lord.
There was no constant electricity or access to loans. No atm, no internet, no GSM, multicellular cost like N300k and that was big fvcking money then for one huge pile of junk.

And they grew up in the military regime where there was NO freedom of speech

All they could do was sleep grin

I beg to differ sir!

Merely seeing friends/family that are married then Bachelors know what they are missing.

I have a very close friend who is a 43 year old bachelor and he has turned my kids to his kids...

Dude calls me way ahead of time to discuss how he would celebrate my kid’s birthday (without asking for his help o)

We (Me and wife) tried hooking him up a lot of times but he was very choosy. The last girl we hooked him up with (That appeared to be perfect. 24 year old Young lawyer Who just finished law college) he said she had incision at her back and that was it...

He confided in me sometime ago that he envies me a lot, and that he knows something is missing in his life, which is having a family.

Reason he had been treating my family like his.

Truth is: Bachelor’s know they are lonely, and they miss having a family.
Just as married folks miss being single especially after a hard day's work you just want to lie down and wifey is asking you "who is Femi?"

Hello my nairaland family. I'll make this post short & precise... I buried my dad around april this year.

Am the only available child, as my elder brother relocated abroad in january & has refused to make contact. I took a loan to sponsor my bro's trip abroad, & also took another loan from my bank to partly sponsor the burial as all the family burden rested on my shoulders..

Last month, my dad appeared in a dream telling me to hurry up in paying a vow he made in church of abt 50k before he died. I was warming up to pay the vow this month's ending as am stil servicing the loans i got from my bank.

He appeared last week to remind me but yesterday night's own came with severe flocking. Am stil feeling the pains from the cain he used at my back & joints..

How do i contain him before month end when i'll be bouyant to pay the vow.

Am afraid he may return with more beatings,. & am jst 30yrs old, & wouldnt want to have any part of my body deformed as a result.

Your suggestions wil be greatly appreciated!
Tell your father to park well.

If god wanted him to pay he would have left him alive.

Nelchuksmandela:
Good day Niralanders,

I need your sincere advice on my present situation.
Please ignore any grammatical error or punctuation. I’m the first son of my family, my father is an average Nigerian trader, he single handedly sponsored my schooling from nursery to higher institution.

After my service year, one of his friends scammed him of 300k in the name of they will get me a job in NUPENG before he paid that money I told him my pastor’s revelation about the NUPENG job, which my pastor said She does not like the job and shared ill references associated to the job with me and I told my dad when I got home, he countered and rebuked the revelation, he doesn’t take any of our advice, he finally fell for the scam.

To cut the long story short, I’m now working class that earn 75k monthly, however I’m still squatting with a friend and I’m still struggling to survive.

Recently I received a call from my dad, he told me he needs 500k for trading, that he wants me to take loan on his behalf he will be paying the debt once it’s due, since he is yet to complete the outstanding loan he took from the same bank, which is remaining 3 months to complete. I later discovered he had another debt he’s still servicing (Paying ) of a different bank that is remaining 6 months to complete.
After pondering over it i asked him; what if he defaults what will happen ? he shunned me and said why will I be negative and I politely told him my mind that I cannot help the current issue. Since then he started reporting me to my mum relatives to talk to in order to accept and collect the loan of 500k on his behalf.

Please your advise on this will be helpful.
Thank you.
Are you not mature enough to schedule a meeting with your dad to discuss this matter?

Why should you bring such a sensitive family issue to a public forum?
