babadee1: There are parts of this country where the violence is definitely out of control. The govt does not yet have a grasp on the criminal activities of those Fulani herdsmen or those Ijaw militants. But there was a time when the govt did not have any answer for Boko Haram either and that situation has been improving steadily. The key is not to lose hope. Our major problem in this country is tribalism, we see ourselves as foreigners to one another, encouraging hostility to the point where one tribe can invade the territory of another on a whim and wreak havoc. Nigeria has a unique problem in this regard and it is fixable but it will take a lot of time and effort, as well as positive constructive thinking.
Again, there are still a lot of problems in Nigeria. But there is probably only one thing you need to remember, there are more millionaires in dollars living in Nigeria today than at any other point in her history. There is more wealth in Nigeria than in any other African country in the world, and more and more of that wealth has nothing to do with exposure to government. Developed countries were also developing at a point in time, they were developed by innovative and hardworking citizens not by their governments. Blaming govt and waiting for govt to do everything for us is a mindset problem for Nigerians. We need to do better for ourselves by ourselves instead of just complaining. Out of all those salient problems which you have listed which one are you going to try to solve my brother? I think I have said enough. Chairman, it appears you have nothing to say |

babadee1: It's obvious unless you choose not to see it or you're too young to remember how things used to be. I agree. I am too young and wish to be enlightened. List them here. Let me help you out. Is power supply better? Is the country more secure? Is the standard of education better? Are the cost of things cheaper? Does the naira have more value? Do we have NEW and better leaders? Are the youths now the leaders of the country? Is water supply better? Do we have better roads? Is healthcare better? And a little elaboration on the points won't be doing too much. Thank you |

babadee1: There's no need to list reasons, we are all frustrated with the slow rate of progress in Nigeria. I don't know how old you are but I'm old enough to remember how things were in this country 20 to 25 years ago. There is no doubt that progress has been made even though it hasn't been up to the level it should be based on our potential in human and natural resources. But I have no doubt that Nigeria of the next 20 years will be by far better than it is today, if we all stop complaining and start playing our part. List the progresses that have been made |

babadee1: There is nothing like a passed state. I just gave you the definition of a failed state and I explained why Nigeria doesn't fall into that category. I know you are frustrated with Nigeria, we all are. But there are many Nigerians who have returned home from western countries and they are doing much better at here at home. Yes Nigeria has failed to live up to its potentials but it is not a failed country. It is still a land of opportunity for those who are patient and willing to make the necessary sacrifices. I like the way you evaded my question "What areas can you can Nigeria has passed in?". Did you take peak milk today? Because it is in you If a country has a government that can legitimately initiate the use of force for maintaining law and order, if the govt can make collective decisions for the public, if the govt can provide basic public amenities and if the govt can interact fully with the international community then it is not a failed state. One strike out of three. Does it count? Care to elaborate on the four criteria? |
Politics › Re: It Seems Halima Buhari Failed The Last Bar Exam by hahn(m): 6:31pm On Jul 15, 2016 |
babadee1: We are not a failed state. There are neighbouring countries where their citizens are taking considerable risks to migrate to Nigeria every single day. Failure is a relative thing, but the term failed state has a very specific definition. Check out my earlier comment. Ok then. The opposite of FAIL is PASS. What areas can you can Nigeria has passed in? |

plaetton: I kinda get your point, but I disagree.
You can't rationalize FAILURE, make the rationalization of failure a sub-culture, and then expect to compete favorably in a competitive world.
If we continue to rationalize FAILURE, that mentality Rob's us of the necessary impetus needed to make corrections and move forward.
Just entertain yourself with the plethora of excuses our leaders at level rationalize for their many many failures.
How many of our past and present leaders have ever ever admitted a mistake, failure, a regret for their policies and actions ?
None.
Another good example. Nigeria is a FAILED state. Each time I say that , someone is quick to tell me that it's not, despite a universe of evidence pointing to the obvious fact. Nigeria IS a failed state. Nigerians are simply excessively hypocritical. Like I always say, "if you cannot admit you have a problem you will never be motivated to find a solution to it". This is Nigeria's REAL problem. Our inability to simply accept that indeed WE ARE FVCKED |

Christianity Etc › Re: A Question To Atheists Who Believe In Evolution. Help me. by hahn(m): 10:15am On Jul 13, 2016 |
naijadeyhia: I have a good question about evolution. If species are evolving, how come we don't see any doggie-cats? How about monkey-bats? Why I don't even see an ant with a human head or anything in nature that is in the process of evolving into something else. My cat is still a cat and has never evolved into a pig. Examine your pets. Maybe your parakeet or parrot is evolving into a buffalo? Do you see any buffalo fur on it? I do not see any practical, common-sense, evidence of any evolution taking place. It it were, we are bound to see some animals of the millions on earth "evolving" into a new life form. All the zoo animals I see in the zoos are not evolving. It ain't happening folks! Show me the proof. Show me the evidence. So far, God has shown his hand. He said he created the creatures and his creatures are visible proof of what he said has become visible before your very eyes. Now show me proof that evolution is real. I want to see it for myself. I want real evidence that would be held up in any court of law. Not speculation or theory... real proof.
Now don't be a Human Baboon about this subject or you will demonstrate yourself as proof-positive that some sort of dehumanizing evolution is taking place. Be sensible and respectful. It is a good question. How come we see not one evidence of any mammal, human or beast evolving? Seems to me, there is no evolution taking place except in the fantasy of the mind, the dreamer of dreams. Present the evidence to the judge so the jury can see the evidence and make a reasonable decision. Present actual evidence, not hearsay or preponderance. The real thing is needed. Can you deliver?
Cc cloudgoddess et al You do not BELIEVE in evolution, you UNDERSTAND evolution. Just like you do not BELIEVE in maths but UNDERSTAND it. UNDERSTAND? |

Candybob: One of our major challenge is that in teaching you patriotism, you were not taught that patriotism only makes sense in the context of nationalism and not in the context of co-joined nations.
Tribes are natural and realistic, borne out of a desire to meet and interact with like minds, people who share a similar history and lifestyle with you. The concept of a country is an artificial construct, borne out of the desire of certain men to achieve conquest over other men or at least some level of political leverage.. Na the same thing we dey talk na |
Politics › Re: Things APC And PDP supporters Have In Common by hahn(op): 9:33am On Jul 13, 2016 |
Candybob: The borders are not imaginary, they are as real as the language we speak, the food we eat, the way we talk, the clothes we wear. You mentioned on Denmark, do you known that Lithuania has a population of 2.9m, while Switzerland is about the same size as Edo state?
They embraced their differences and it has helped them, but here we like to deceive ourselves that we operate on higher values, hence we kick against nationalism and term it tribalism.
Unfortunately most lofty ideologies look good on paper but end up problematic in reality. Many people don't even know what tribalism means, they have been taught to despise the word.
Now let me put things in the right perspective for you. First there is 'you', you come first, after you comes your family, after your family comes your immediate community (town or village), usually the inhabitants of your immediate community are your fellow tribes men. Where your tribe enjoyed a dominant historical growth, you can have a whole state or country been one tribe.
The difference between Portugal and Spain tribal, so also is the difference between Gerrmany and Russia, Poland, Ukraine and the list goes on..
So why do you deny yourselves the chance of uplifting your people, using your own resources? Nigeria is very much unlike these countries you have mentioned. We were not united of our own free will. In developed countries, it is the nation first, ie patriotism, then everything else falls into place. What you described is exactly what is wrong with us. You are missing some historical facts here. |
Politics › Re: Things APC And PDP supporters Have In Common by hahn(op): 8:49am On Jul 13, 2016 |
Candybob: Nice outlook on the subject..
There is however nothing wrong with been a tribalist though, after all if you dont feel for yourself how will you understand the feelings of others?
If you cant understand and defend your interest, how will u understand and defend that of others?
Tribalism makes us aware of our own and by extension what should belong to others. The so called African "tribes" and the current divisions we have are as a result of the manipulations of our colonial masters. The put us together then created imaginary borders to divide us. Unfortunately. most Nigerians are not taught such facts in school. The "Yorubas" alone occupy an area bigger than some European countries. Why aren't those countries referred to as tribes? Denmark for instance have a population of 5,707,251 Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DenmarkThe Yoruba constitute over 40 million people in total; the majority of this population is from Nigeria and make up 21% of its population, according to the CIA World Factbook, making them one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoruba_peopleWhy can't Denmark be referred to as a tribe? |

dalaman: Please help me ask him oo. You guys claim that this world is not your home. You have a much better place where there is no pain and sorrow and a loving God to spend time with there. Instead of happily going there they cry and wail when they are supposed to always pray for a fast and speedy death always. They instead pray for longer lives and all sort of things that will make them remain on earth instead of praying for a fast and speedy death to go and be with Jesus in the afterlife. They clearly do not believe in what they are preaching. Muslims can not wait to go and be with Allah and his promised virgins. They wrap bombs round themselves and hurry up the process, but christians will cry and wail all day when they are in danger of losing their lives. Lol. That was how I was taking a stroll with my born again aunty in Warri. We were supposed to cross the road and as a Lagos boy I crossed sharp sharp only to look back hoping to see the woman and she was still on the other side. I almost had to stop traffic just so she could cross When she eventually did I asked her, "mama, why are you so scared to cross?" and she said, "ah, I don't want these drivers to hit me na". I said, "shuo, I thought you are a born again. Are you not supposed to be looking forward to death". Her reply, a scowl and "silence". damogulxx: Christianity is a growth process because faith grows. There are believers who have overcome the fear of death and I am one of such examples. Some have not.
Same way you have atheists who do not believe in evolution while others do so are believers when it comes to the issue of death. No one has ever claimed that evolution is DIVINE and from any supreme being. It is subject to scrutiny and all atheists can think freely for themselves. There is a reason why we are referred to as FREEthinkers We do not have any holy book guiding us. Besides, you do not BELIEVE evolution, you UNDERSTAND it or you don't. Just like you do not BELIEVE in maths, you UNDERSTAND it. There are few perfect believers so you cannot judge a believer yet with the perfect word of God in their imperfection. This thread is childish as all you aim to do is not learn but simply mock. If you reply me I will not respond because I have said all I need to say. Enjoy your Atheistic years while they last. I thought no one was perfect aside from god Lol. Read and understand sir. Enjoy your delusion while it lasts |

Feraz: No matter how their games are stepped up, they cannot move forward if Nigerians do not support them. Nigerians do not listen to fact during campaign but emotional speeches like "I had no shoes" and "I will fight corruption like I did during the 80s". There were candidates who sounded intellectual pre-elections but Nigerians went for popular candidates. Then add the bigotry innate in Nigerians, you know why we are here; it is part of us. As for putting much into campaigns, note that most did not have enough money. Even Nigerian youths that were supposed to help make them popular through social media did not but rather killed themselves for PDP and APC and they still do like one once said here on this platform concerning Remi Sonaiya "We do not need people from other platforms. She should join APC before she can then be considered after PMB has 'ruled' for eight years".
The last bolded, that ain't going anytime soon. As long as the Igbo man sees the Yoruba man as an enemy, the Yoruba man sees the Igbo man as a hate mongerer and the Hausa man sees Nigeria as a birthright, the politics of hate, bigotry and myopic interest will continue. I concur. Sadly |
