First of all, getting a job in Nigeria demands two things.
Age- if you are above 24 then trouble dey.
Experience - if you are above 26 with some job experiences, then he can apply for experience hire.
Then his grade in the University is important.
You don't just come here and say you a graduate. (Did he make a first class or 2.1 and still has no job?) Or a 2.2 ,third class. All these are important. ( yea, truth be said, there are still unemployed first class and 2.1 graduates). Also state what you can do aside you degree

Finally, for the past six months I have been at home seriously job hunting. I was offered an internship in Jumia for a pay of 43k. I declined it.
You are a man just do something legit, shit money doesn't smell -Yoruba adage
This is my humble opinion.

For me:

1. Experience gained in work done and new innovative ways of doing your job better.
2. The amount of and quality of training (certified and non -certified)
3. Promotions and salary increase.
4. Networking with customers, colleagues and senior management staff of other organisations in that industry.
5. More responsibility been given to me to help me grow as a professional.

JUST ANOTHER COMMON SENSE LECTURE.

Give N150,000 to a secondary school dropout and watch him buy a stove, a frying pan, cooking oil and other things to start Indomie business.

In just three years, the young man will have a wife, a plot of land worth N1million, a Tokunbo car, a TV, sofa, bed, etc in his one-bedroom house.

Give N1m to most university graduates and watch them buy Samsung Galaxy phones and several pairs of skinny jeans, take their numerous girlfriends out, take selfies and post them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

In less than two years, they will be buying Indomie on credit from the secondary school dropout and paying rent or staying in their parents' house.

The question is:
DOES EDUCATION BREED WASTE, ARROGANCE, GULLIBILITY AND STUPIDITY?

Education does not necessarily breed any of the above, but it makes you look down on possibilities as "not befitting my status".

Unemployment is actually higher amongst the educated than amongst the uneducated.

The uneducated are more innovative and ready to do what the educated will refer to as "dirty, menial jobs".

And before you know it, the uneducated guy will be needing an Accountant to manage his finance books and will now employ the educated guy!

That is the reality of our society!
*My counsel...Work as if you have no certificate, remain humble...*

This was exactly the same reason I stopped working on the island.

I'll get to office by latest 8am from mainland to island everyday and close late because as a secretary now you no fit go when chairman still dey office. Even with staff bus, we'll sit in third mainland traffic jam till all my legs and feet are swollen. You'll get home exhausted and useless to yourself.

I couldn't even meet up for weekly church activities. I told God see o it's the nature of my job that is affecting my service to you and started praying for a change of career that will give me time to serve God and give me time for myself.

God led me into teaching line and from there I did a partime program on phonetics and diction courses (, I originally studied office management/ secretarial studies) . After I completed the programme, I left full time teaching and took up partime jobs. Now before 12pm I'm done. I resume 9 am and Latest 1pm Ive closed for the day. Rest well and go for my weekly activities because I'm a chorister so I have to be in church to take praise and worship before sermon commences.

There's Life after work and all employers should know this and give their staff time to rest and recoup energy for the next days work.
Stress and exhaustion from work kills.

Keep pushing don't stop pushing
Gentlesoul2021:
I was supposed to graduate in 2018, ASUU made it 2019. The school also delayed and I was mobilized to Lagos state for NYSC in 2020.

I purposely begged a senior military officer to aid my deployment to Lagos so I can get chances of approaching major companies but unfortunately I was posted to a school. I hated teaching and thanks to COVID 19, I only spent 4months in the school but still had a headlock with the school owner who wanted to start feeling like a God, a woman for that matter.

In 2021 I was done with NYSC and had no one in Lagos to atleast stay with while pursuing other opportunities which I have to return to my state.

I ran back to the senior military officer for a placement in the military and he assured me of an assistance. I'd depended on his words wic made me not to apply for any vacancy thinking I already have a shot in the military, a mistake I made as it took the military a year to make recruitment open in 2022.

After commencement of the recruitment, I applied and ran back to the senior officer who outrightly told me my course of study wasnt listed on the portal and it will be hard for him to push me and to be honest, that year, this particular military sector made alot of changes to their requirement processes. I was devasted and accepted fate thou I applied anyways.

I started job hunting aggressively with lot of rejections. When fate will have it, I was shortlisted for the military recruitment for an aptitude test and I went back to the senior officer who's a brigadier general. He told me to take the aptitude test and he'll take it from there.

I did the test but didn't have my name in the next list of shortlisted candidates. I was so pained and couldn't eat, it was the wife of this general who consoled me. As a matter of fact, that year was my last hope to apply for anything military as age was not on my side. I had a glimpse of getting the job but couldn't make it.

In October 2022, after 20 months of finishing NYSC, I got a store clerk position in an hotel for a salary of 20k with service charge of 30k.

The service charge made the offer juicy and I jump onto it. After a month on the job, the store officer angrily resigned due to maltreatment from the management and I was installed as the store/inventory Officer.

I was doing the job of a store clerk as well as the main store officer. I complained and asked for an assistant to be recruited for me but my appeal went on deaf ears. This work started taking toll on me as I was even supervising the store section, a new site project for the hotel. Imagine I was working on the new site which is not on the employment contract as well as working for the hotel. There are six departments in the hotel with store request frequently.

The site engineer will also request for store materials to be used on site and I am the only person authorised to released any materials. I had no rest being only me, the site engineer took pity on me and also join voice with me to appeal to the company to recruit an assistant to man this position. I started losing weight with alot of restless night. The role is not a shift one and I do not have any fixed closing time. Sometimes I'd got home 10pm, 11pm and will have to resume to work by 7am the following day. People started calling my attention to how I look. I was disturbed physically and mentally.

I had to resign in Feb 2023, just six months on the job and they'd picked up a fight with me. They knew how much of my impact within those few months and they were angry I took them by surprise in resigning with no replacement in sight. They wanted me to pay for a training fee the company organised for staffs but I also outsmart them by presenting a medical certificate to nullify their claims. To tell u I never received any service charge as promised in the contract, I was only receiving 20k attached to a store clerk position not to even talk of the new role I was assigned to. I got no increasement in salary despite working another role different from what I was applied for. Out of the 20k salary, over 15k was been used for transportation, I was just suffering and smiling.

It been 12months of another race, and this time around I am very sceptical about the salary for any role. I got an offer just 2 months of resigning from my previous role wic I declined cos of the amount attached to the role and also the time slavery attached to the role of working 9-9, Monday-sunday, not a shift role and no off day. A store officer in a super market, I had to run. It been lot of rejection afterward, but man keep moving.

I also started a charcoal business which was growing bit by bit not until high cost of commodities struck it and I had to stop investing in it as I was getting little to nothing on intrest as at when I started. Some of my suppliers are even fond of paying me in bits where in most cases I spend this money on other things and had no capital to rerun the biz...

Man will keep pressing on...

Let me give you a little secret about labor market. Using myself as an example, I have worked in more than 6 companies in 3 different countries and continent. Most times after about 2 years, i just get bored and feel like changing employer or when i ask them for a raise or favor. Now back to your question, the secret is this, know what the society needs and demands, then develop yourself in that particular aspect, then you will see as jobs will be coming your way.

My brother, I turned to agbero work for survival.

I quit after 4 years and got serious with property business my dad was doing.
Madam started keeping men outside because I no get money.

I had two streams of income already and God blessed me with a federal commission work.

Jobs/VacanciesThere's Is Life Outside Work by Hamachi(op): 8:47am On Feb 08, 2024
There is life outside Work.

We appeal to employers of labor to understand that there is life outside the office. Encourage employees to go home early and when due to be with their families, staying late in the office frequently has consequences on the family circle.

During exigency working late is understandable but making it mandatory that employees should work late or stay in the office as long as they are in the office is not the best practice.

I was once in this situation during my early career days, I was asked to stay back till the MD left, He finally left at 10:15 pm. I went home by commercial transport and ended up in one chance, everything I had was collected from me. They dropped me off at Costain, I had to trek from there to Surulere because I had nothing on me to reach anyone for help. I resumed work the following morning and told me HoD, she spoke on my behalf but I only got a sorry, after life goes on.

I have heard several complaints from colleagues and friends. One of my friend's husband was beaten to a stupor and was robbed because of going home late. At other times the children suffer because mummy and daddy live very early and come back late.

We implore employers to encourage all employees to go home early and as when due. Stay back late does not mean one is dedicated, if an employee comes in early and ensures their 8 hours is productive, 5:00 pm is a good time to go home.

Remember a good home also makes a good and productive employee.
Jobs/VacanciesWith The Skyrocketing Fx And Cost Of Living, What Are We Doing To Change The Gam by Hamachi(op): 8:37am On Feb 08, 2024
Dear HR & Employers in Nigeria,

With the skyrocketing fx and cost of living, what are we doing to change the game?

I understand the impact is on both employers and employees so this is a wake up call for us all to begin to think outside the box.

What can my organization do differently for the business as well as the people?

Thinking aloud.
