Car Talk › Re: Car Owners Prefer Fake Insurance From Licencing Offices? Why? by hardbody: 3:52pm On Apr 10, 2013
Dis Guy: I know how insurance is meant to work...Im just asking if you hit lukman the danfo driver, will he actually take this from paper from you without causing a scene and holding everybody up on the main road
YES he will, what are the options? Guy forget oo. I dont fight or engage in abuses on the road, no way. You say i was in the wrong, ok. How much is the damage? Ok. talk to my insurance company, simple. If Lukman refuses, the next option is to call the police and ask them to tow away both vehicles, Lukman will suddenly realize that his means of livelihood is getting punctuated, he will rethink. As for me, if the car gets towed away, i will call for another car taht will pick me from that spot. Leave matter joor

Dis Guy: word of mouth is a powerful tool, customer generally recommend good service/products

there are several avenues set up by NEPA/PHCN for complaints i wonder how effective those are...

I'd like to know the answer too
NEPA/PHCN are government run, all te insurance companies (with the exception of a few) are owned and run by organized private sector businessmen
Car Talk › Re: Car Owners Prefer Fake Insurance From Licencing Offices? Why? by hardbody: 3:47pm On Apr 10, 2013
Dis Guy: you keep asking this question....why do YOU THINK MANY CAR OWNERS ignore insurance
Many car owners ignore insurance because of persistent ignorance and disbelief. A stereotype of what they were told and insisting on following the cheap avenue of not buying genuine insurance

Dis Guy: ever been to lagos? theres a crash every minute and people still dont get insurance, they just hold everyone up negotiating price of repair.... there must be a reason

thousands of crash in Lagos, theres must be something putting people off, seemingly educated comfortably people
with 'expensive' cars ; I still wonder why they are more likely to buy a tracking device but wont get insurance
I am very careful not to hit you, but if i am in the wrong, i sign off papers for you and give you my insurance particulars, you sort it out with them, they will fix you up and fix me too, because i carry comprehensive insurance on all my cars.
Car Talk › Re: Car Owners Prefer Fake Insurance From Licencing Offices? Why? by hardbody: 3:15pm On Apr 10, 2013
otokx: Those 3rd party insurance papers are only useful in keeping you from the wiles of the policeman and maybe FRSC. In the case of an accident you will have to bear the cost especially when you are at fault.
Ignorance running wild...

[quote author=T-smooth]Mtcheew! which stupid car insurance?...[/quote

You do not own a car, so i understand your response perfectly well. I do not only have car insurance, i have home guard, children education, fire and burglary, etc.

At least the only one i have suffered which is my car, the insurance fixed it to the tune of about N450k.

When you grow, you will understand.

Politics › Re: Leadership Newspapers Journalists Sue Police, Demand N10m Damages by hardbody: 9:58am On Apr 10, 2013
You do not always file an action because of monetary compensation, it could be to test the validity of your right which has been infinged, the damages are usually a fallout of that decision. I do admit that in the event the journalists get a favourable judgement, levying execution on the police is not one of the easiest of things but certainly there is a moral angle to it. The state should not be seen as flouting competent orders of a court and this could be used not only against the police but against the presidency and its incumbent, in that case, you will be right in calling Nigeria a lawless state and no body can rightfully arrest you because you already have proof that a judgment was given against the state or its apparatus(ii) and they flagrantly refused to obey. Either way, the state will be the loser as it will not have a moral high ground to call itself a state that obeys the laws of the land.
Investment › Re: Nigerian Insurance Sector Shares: Analysis Wanted (AIICO, NEM, Allie, Custodian) by hardbody: 8:04am On Apr 10, 2013
It is both sad and unfortunate how people parade their ignorance on something they know nothing about. Insurance as a sub sector has not penetrated deeply in Nigeria because of these form of reckless submissions by people who should know. When the stock market was booming, insurance as a sub sector made so many people rich with their penny stocks, today, the market has gone south across board and it has affected all the companies. As for long term fundamentals, google the likes of Mansard, cornerstone, and perhaps custodian. You will realize what has been going on.

For those of you that say God is your insurance, I pity your recklessness. I repeat, my cousin had an accident with one of my cars coming back in December from the East, the cost of total repairs, in the neighborhood of about 450k was borne by the insurance company. I have household, fire and burglary, etc. I have rest of mind because whether fire, flood, robbery or whatever that happens to any of my assets, my insurance company will pay.

Finally, rather than claim that the companies are just sitting down and waiting for government patronage, please learn a little more about industries and sectors outside yours, that is what makes a man brilliant and smart. By the way, I use Cornerstone Insurance and they have never failed me.

dayokanu: If you enroll in Primary 1 at age 4, That means you finished Primary 6 at age 9
This was my exact situation and because I studied under the 5 year programme in secondary, I had my school cert at age 14, spent a year quarreling with my dad on my chosen course and eventually bagged my first degree in law at age 20. It was not a big deal at all. I was called the Nigerian Bar at age 21. I wrote jamb once and scored 297 when the first cut off for my course in my Uni was 295. The facts are verifiable.

mekaboy: Ndigbo are too divided for my liking. Oil discovered in the east that should make us all happy has become and object of envy between enugu and anambra.

We can't achieve much if we continue like this.something good has happened in ala igbo, we should all celebrate instead of fight.
Discovery of oil in ala Igbo at this time is not a blessing. Even in my place, the topography and all signifies there could be oil in commercial quantity but we are ensuring it is not exploited yet until there is a sharing formulae that will be beneficial to all and most all, the owners of the oil.

WHAT WILL U DO?
The age calculation and poverty status doesn't fit with me, however if you kidnap my grandma, you are on a long thing, when you tire, you go release am either in life or in death. In the former case, we will celebrate her, in the later, we will give her a befitting burial, she has already achieved with my dad and uncles and myself and other siblings and cousins. She will otherwise die sometime anyway.

scobaba: In my first year I paid for damages I did not cause.

From 2nd year till I graduated, I headed d damage team.

So I paid without frowning.
Just like me joor, I was always heading Aluta because at the end of the fracas, all students will pay for whatever damage caused. It was fun then, but looking back now, it was pure juvenile delinquency and it just doesn't make sense now.
Car Talk › Re: Car Thieves Gone Digital! by hardbody: 7:50pm On Apr 09, 2013
kayalla: I locked my car As I walked away I heard my car door unlock''.I went back and locked my car again three times. Each time, as soon as I started to walk away, I could hear it unlock again!! Naturally alarmed, I looked around and there were two men sitting in a car next to the Store. They were obviously watching me intently, and there seemed no doubt they were somehow involved in this very weird situation. I quickly abandoned my errand, jumped into my car and sped away. I went straight to the police station, told them what had happened, and found out I was part of a new, and very successful, scheme being used to gain entry into parked cars. Two weeks later, my friend's son had a similar experience...

While traveling, he stopped at a motorway service area to use the toilet. When he came out to his car less than 5 minutes later, someone had managed to get into his car and had stolen his mobile phone, laptop computer, sat-nav, briefcase and other belongings. He called the police and since there were no signs of his car having been broken into, the police told him he had probably been a victim of the latest robbery tactic – there is a device that robbers are using now to clone your security code when you lock your doors on your car using your remote locking device. They sit a distance away and watch for their next victim. They know you are going inside the Store, restaurant, or whatever and that they now have a few minutes to steal and run.*

The police officer said always to lock your car manually with the key when parking in a public area. That way if there is someone sitting in a car nearby watching for their next victim, it will not be you. When you lock up with the key upon exiting, it does not send the security code, but if you walk away and use the remote button, it sends the code through the airwaves where it can be easily intercepted by the device.

This is very real. Be aware of what you just read and pls pass this information. Thanks
Thanks for the tip although out of carelessness, i have always misplaced and finally lost all my car remotes, so i simply use the key to lock. I no longer enjoy the comfort of 'keyless entry' but reading this now, it appears to be a blessing in disguise. While at it, make i go check ooo, i left a substantial amount in my car in the car park, BRB

nayef: ^ ..stop kidding yourself. The job is advertised on OPEC website and its gonna attract lots of superb applications.. Where so many are qualified, the chances of getting it drift closer to zero
I am really disappointed in this mental attitude of yours. I pride myself as being among the best and believe i can effectively compete against the world on a fair playing field. This positive attitude has helped me severally. If my training was in that area, i assure you i would have applied, but more importantly, i would have given it my best shot to the extent that i am almost certain of not only being shortlisted but at least going very far in the selection process. Big up and move up, stop tying up your self with self-imposed restraints. This attitude will keep you perpetually at the lowest rung of the ladder of success. Just a suggestion.
