Business › Re: Banking Reform: More Workers To Lose Jobs by hardbody: 2:53pm On Feb 17, 2012
The chicks are coming home to roost. Some silly guy opened a thread where he was pompously telling all who cared to listen (and read his posts) why bankers live an affluent lifstyle and how rich bank staff were and all that crappy stuff. I recall replying that Banks are the most volatile institutions to work with, today, it is becoming a huge reality that they can no longer sustain their over bloated style. A lot more will be fired in days to come, i am not wishing them bad, it is just reality. I was in that industry years back and i knew what the future held and i had made 3 different moves since then. I feel sorry for the bread winners who will be put under pressure to continue providing for their own. God will see all through. However, it is an eye opener to those who feel they are all too-important in their places of employment that there is a need to have a plan B in place for a rainy day such as this. It is well with them.
Education › Re: Nigeria: 118 Students Graduate From Unilag With First Class Honours by hardbody: 2:20pm On Feb 17, 2012
It just does not sound right to have that number of graduates making a first class no matter what Tanimola thinks. I recall that in my Uni way back in time, towards the third and final years, Senate tries to rationalize the number of first class graduates in any given year. You cannot cheapen your degree this much, and as for quality, i struggled not to lose my first degree knowledge acquisition when i went to Unilag for my Masters. As I write, i have completed arrangements to repeat that programme in another University, this is because although i passed the examinations, in terms of head knowledge i was almost raped. Now i think there is a lot more in these degrees than meet the eye, believe me
Politics › Re: PAY YOUR TRIBUTE TO SERGENT SUNDAY BADUNG by hardbody: 2:05pm On Feb 17, 2012
Quite a number of people have captured my feelings about the reckless way that man chose to die. Taking it a bit forward, he committed suicide and therefore has offended the state, sadly we cannot prosecute his remains, however, given the training he had received while alive, and the cost of the uniform (tax payers money) he was wearing while taking those steps which bordered more on crass criminal negligence, the state should institute an action against his estate for damages. That will be a lesson for others of his type not to toy with their lives especially when they have been trained with tax payers money.
Education › Re: Abu Zaria The Most Corupt Varsity In Nigeria by hardbody: 11:54am On Feb 16, 2012
@ Bandit C, it is so funny. Its not about Nigerian graduates, its not even about the Uni, its just a problem of the individual. some people can't just get it right, let us rather have pity on them and keep praying, while we hope they also manage to cover their shame. Having said that, quite a number of the posts i read, written by the owners of the language also leaves a lot to be applauded, essentially therefore, it is the person and not necessarily the institution.
Education › Re: Abu Zaria The Most Corupt Varsity In Nigeria by hardbody: 11:49am On Feb 16, 2012
@Joeblis, If that guy writes and spells like you, there is no justification for admitting him into any high institution let alone a university. Ponder over this and step up in your English grammar or write in vernacular in the alternative.
Culture › Re: Igbos, Will You Marry An Osu? by hardbody: 8:00pm On Feb 15, 2012
@drnoel, I am right and ur informants are wrong. I have both oral tradition, written history and everyday observation to buttress my position. I go to Arochukwu at least 4 times every year, Easter, Ikeji (New yam) Christmas, New year and at least one burial. I also relate witht the elders because i am from Isiogo (Eziogo) (which means nothing happens without someone from my compound being there) and inspite of western education (which in all modesty i have had a fair share) i am still traditionally inclined, so i can tell you whatthe real truth is. Your uncles either do not know the history or they are trying to hoodwink you into believing the wrong. Which reminds me, the non-Amadis are generally known (not referred to) as Ohu. But it is only the elderly ones that dwell on such topics and it hardly ever comes into play when some decisions are taken. we relate without any distinctions or demarcations save as i had already outlined in my earlier post. If you want further clarifications, please ask and you shall be satisfied.
Culture › Re: Igbos, Will You Marry An Osu? by hardbody: 5:04pm On Feb 15, 2012
@ afam, I do not have the patience to read through the entire thread, i have however noted a point that i believe deserves a response, or perhaps an answer. The people of arondizuogu are not osu, at least from inception (so i guess it will not change later). They are people of Arochukwu extract and they moved on to stay in the present location where they are now. For avoidance of doubt, the Aros of Arochukwu do not have the Osu Caste system, what they have is Amadi and non-Amadi. An Amadi can actually marry a non-Amadi and no body will raise an eyebrow, although there was a guy that wanted to marry my cousin (a female) sometime ago, and i think one of my uncle's did not just like the guy, so part of his peruasive argument was taht my cousin will loose her Amadi status upon marrying the guy. However, people do not go into tracing such history generally in terms of marriage, although in quite a few instances, teh Amadis will always try to indicate that they are the 'sons of the soil'.

Back to the people of Arondizuogu, they still come home to their ancestral home in Arochukwu during the Ikeji Festival )in teh last week of September each year) and they are welcome and we mix and celebrate with them. As a matter of fact, another of my uncles married from there and that his wife happens to be one of the best wives we had ever brought into our family fold. Further, my other relations also go to Ndizuogu whenever they are celebrating their own Ikeji (new yam festival), i have hardly had teh time to attend though. Essentially therefore, teh Arondizuogus are not Osu because they are extracted fro Arochukwu and the Aros do not have the caste system.

Secondly, the law has also abolished that rubbish and honestly why would any one person have a right to determine that someone else is lesser than others. If we had that system, i for one would have gone all out to search out and marry an Osu and then see what happens. By the way forthe records, in Arochukwu, the people we say are not Amadis are teh ones doing a lot better than the Amadis, althouh te reason is a lot more historical, but that is the fact.

Omo, that storm was something else ooo. A certain woman driving by my side was struggling with her picanto against the gusto, she rested by the side of vehicle (an SUV), i naturally stopped so that i remained her wedge for sometime, when the blizzard calmed a bit, i drove on. Now i need to do some body work(minimally though) because she scrapped my paint, but i am happy i saved that woman and her car, the breeze was pushing her sideways near the edge of the bridge on 3rd mainland. At this rate, this year will be brutal walahi

@ bouncino, in those days, any cummulative 3 unpassed papers earned one an 'advise' to withraw, the only first class in that ur set was a guy from 'Economics' . I cant recall his name now. It was really tough even making the 2.1

Properties › Re: Building A Large Duplex In Enugu by hardbody: 3:07pm On Feb 13, 2012
@Oga Spyder

Permit me to ask this rather 'silly' question. I recently fired my contractor as he was not performing on point. However, i took personal steps to commission the roofing of my house ( a 4 bedroom duplex). I want to proceed to the next stage and currently setting processes in place to purchase the aluminium profiles and glasses ( i intend to personally scrutinize proposals and be fully involved in the purchases and installations at least by a close proxy). However, i am not clear in my head, whether the next steps should really be to procure those frames and install or first construct window protectors. My plan is to do all at about the same time (windows, protectors and plastering) but i need to know in what specific order, please.
Education › Re: How Does UNICAL Calculate Their 4.0 Grading System? by hardbody: 2:49pm On Feb 13, 2012
I just read through this. It has been some time i graduated from that institution, i recall that 2.1 (Second upper) starts from 3.00 and ends somewhere around 3.75 or thereabouts ( I made a 2.1 on 3.01 scale). If given a little bit of time (some days), i hope to look for my academic transcript and then give a well articulated response to this enquiry. One sure thing is that the grading system was never confusing then, and it should not be now.

@ufumes, minute details of security operations will make it easy for other criminals to have some understanding of the workings of the system and therefore will tend to be a step ahead of the law at any point in time. Such info is released on a need to know basis. Bottom line is he was tracked down after profiling to his final point in mutum biu. The saddest part is how all these supposedly strong and hard guys are always pulled out from holes that will make d weakest of women feel very low. It is rather very shameful. People like him should be strong enough to pursue his beliefs to d point of death, afterall he has engineered more than 40 deaths in one fell swoop.

Culture › Re: How Often Do You Go To Your Village by hardbody: 11:38pm On Feb 10, 2012
My local govt and location of origin which some prefer to call a village is metropolitan (Arochukwu, the ancient city, so i wount call it a village), and it is d best place to be in d whole world. I visit every xmas, at least in d past 15yrs. I also visit my maternal ancestry home (calabar) at the same time as i visit Arochukwu. All those talks abt witches and wizards have always been there, my head is 2 strong 4 dem (apologies to d kokomaster), i will always visit, infact i visit at least 4 times each year. I am also developing properties. Everytime i hear that there are plans to either kill me or incapacitate me, i visit with a renewed vigour to place my success on the map of the environs. Guys, visit ur village, once u dont ingest poison, nothing will happen to you, after a while, they will start getting scared of u. Just be sure u fix ur stuff, get good tyres, sort ur car out and ensure u drive carefully in and out, nothing dey happen. I personally drive fro Lag to my villa round the year and believe me, nothing fit happen bc i believe in my creator and take all due precautions. It is Feb and everyone knows i will come in regularly and finally on Dec 24 every year. Nothing dey pa, anything wey pa, na winsch and even when wisch pa, God pass them. True talk

Let us even assume for the sake of argument that it is a fact that Igbos are crossing the border into Cameroun, so what? @ Bluetooth et all, if Ivory Coast was very close, we would have moved over there, prevention is better than cure, and he who fights and runs away is not a coward, he is living to fight another day, if you doubt this fact ask your kinsmen in the military (Brigadiers and General) who were kneeling down and grovelling begging Mustapha ( a major) for their dear lives. And BTW, where i currently work, the Chief Financial Officer had a first degree in a physics related programme before he veered off into Accounting and Finance having worked over time with Deloitte. One of my core directors is heading a private equity firm recognized world-wide and his first degree was in, guess? MBBCH (or whatever acronym they use for medical doctors)(essentially he started off as a medical doctor with the then Authur Anderson but working in tax, etc etc). It pays to manage one's ignorance and learn than to parade same in a public forum such as this. I amnow getting incensed really angry angry
Crime › Re: Shocking: Female Banker Shot Dead In Lagos by hardbody: 10:57am On Feb 08, 2012
It is amazing how we easily derail a thread from the very serious and solemn issue of death to that of Nigeria being a failed state and Engineers working in Banks, etc etc.

Let me say without mincing words that with a first degree in any field, you are positioned to work at the entry level of a bank. If you aspire to go higher, you will then need to learn on the job and acquire some certifications. I trained as a lawyer and spent 2 years working in the Legal Department of a foremost bank. While there, a few other colleagues (lawyers) veered into corporate finance and they excelled. As i speak, i have left banking but have upscalled my skills to enable me take up challenges in various other spheres of life. My point?, it is not a Nigerian factor nor is it perculiar to Nigeria for skills to be applied across board. Secondly, I have held down 4 different jobs and i did not know a single person in any of those establishments, i simply applied, got interviewed and got offers which i accepted. It is so very easy to sit on a certain high horse and be castigating everything Nigerian, we know we are not doing well, it is more a case of the powerful minority downplaying the good intentions of the weak majority. People like me believe that someday, the wind of change will blow, until then, we keep trying to make this place the best we can. Oya small pikins make una begin abuse una uncle

Na wa 4 9ja ooo. It is a muslim holiday, we should savour the benefit of sit at home, the same way they savour the benefits of all the christian holidays (although most of them are based on paganistic origin e.g Christmas and to some extent Easter). All these tantrums being thrown are just uncalled for, Nigeria is a secular state and we should make room for one another. By the way, i profess christianity but i see all these other Northern brothers as human, it is just a tiny minority that have been brain-washed to believe they must kill 'infidels' so that they can go to paradise and acquire seven (7) virgins.

In the meantime, i will rest wella on Monday, or maybe drive out to swim at the club, what a wonderful off-day smiley cheesy
