Why not tell us so that we would know why you had to mobilise maximum force with armed Zombies and all to unlawfully kidnap a harmless well known individual who is not a threat to the peace and security of the society?

Why not channel all that weaponry and force of arms towards bursting the numerous armed robbery and kidnapping syndicates threatening the peace and wellbeing of Nigerians?

As long as it's an accident, I SHALL NEVER MAKE AN ISSUE OUT OF IT.

[b ]Amnesty International said it found 130 detainees living in overcrowded cells at a SARS detention in Abuja known as the ‘Abattoir’. ][/b]

that got me!!! SARS Old Abattoir (Abuja) are just plain criminals. simple as that.... going through the gates(entrance), you are made to part with #500 at the three gates totalling #1500 before you gain entrance to the main compound. Minimum bail is #100,000 and above depending on your bargaining power that is if you are innocent. they hate lawyers with pride that's if the lawyer is good. the general belief is that "you wan carry money wey you suppose give them give lawyer" and they do everything possible to frustrate you case. if it's a crime, we talk from #500,000 to millions.
they kill indiscriminately if no one comes for you. from the top hierarchy down to the gate knows it's all business.
So where and how do SARS Abuja arrest their victims? I'm sure SARS in Abuja doesn't do indiscriminate raids around town to pick up guys going about their business the way they do in some other states. So how exactly does SARS do its rubbish in abuja? I'm curious.

I honestly think it's a homicide. She didn't die of any yeye "phone call induced gas explosion". I wish Nigeria was a functional country with a functional police who actually do their jobs. Even more, I wish Nigeria's battalion of educated idiots have functional brains. A country of superstitious and vacuous ignoramuses.

Perhaps the dead lady rustled a few feathers and made a few enemies in her lifetime. But even if so, that's besides the point.

The point is that she wasn't killed by a so-called phone induced gas explosion. This is as sure as death. Unfortunately, our law enforcement agents are incompetent (no forensics, no basic sense sef), and are too busy chasing money to do their jobs, so, regrettably, the truth may never be known.

Just thinking out loud.

And so what? Why is this Abba Kyari not reacting to the #EndSARS issue? Why is he not coming out to rein in his bunch of fools in SARS and reiterate that their ONLY mandate is to strike against armed robbers and kidnappers, rather than to go hunting after imaginary yahoo boys?

What is our business with his stupid brother in the police? I used to like this guy for his exploits in busting criminals, but his silence about the widespread nuisance of SARS suggests complicity and it leaves a very sour taste in my mouth.

They even go into cases of bounced cheques and shady business transactions. SARS business is not to investigate, but to hit. It’s a Special Anti-Robbery Squad, not an investigative one.

Maina should defend himself instead of pointing accusing finger to others. Maina is a thief and no other word we can use to qualify him than thief. He should mention names of other thieves if he's sure. Ajegbodo nwa eni kunra.
Well, how do you defend yourself when your accusers are the same people who you know to be the biggest thieves, and are the same people who would sit in judgment over your case? The same people who would decide your case? Where there is ZERO chance of fair hearing, since the outcome would be skewed (by the bigger thieves) towards a predetermined end that aligns with their own interest? In such circumstance, what purpose does it serve for you to come out and defend yourself? Would that not be suicidal?

I'm not anybody's fan, because EVERY ONE OF THEM is a thief. But the point remains that the Nigerian system is so polluted that it is needless to talk about "defending oneself". It's really a big mess.

It is suicidal to be at lonely areas in abuja after dusk. I am a living witness to this fact. Sadly the guy did not live to narrate his ordeal.

On July 30th, I decided to go on an evening walk, at about 7pm. I was accosted by hoodlum meters away from my estate along airport road. Was stabbed severally, I took a stab wound to my chest, it missed my heart by a few inch.

My walk ended in national hospital Abuja. Interestingly, about 10 other persons, with similar incident were brought into trauma resource on same night.

This guys carrying out the attack can't speak English, so their council is to immobilize their victims and ransack them for whatever they can find. They are usually armed with cutlasses, knives and they carry out their operation on motorcycle (okada)

My advice to everyone in and around abuja is to avoid lonely spot after dusk, if whatever reason you are stranded in such area, start running till you find a place that is relatively safe.

May the soul of the departed rest on in peace.
This is a very helpful contribution, and I sympathise with you on your experience on July 30. Hope you've recovered from the injuries now.

It's a pity what Abuja has become. I always (naively) thought it was the safest and sweetest city in Nigeria. Perhaps because Im not fully resident there. I guess the Fulani criminal invasion changed everything.

Which Airport Road are you referring to, by the way? The long stretch from Jabi airport junction all the way through Lokogoma to Kabusa, or is it the Lugbe axis? I need to know where the black spots in the city are so that I can thread with extra caution, just in case.

my lecturer in 100 level boldly stated that left to him, bride price will be in millions because the value of a female child to her parents can never be understated.
Assuming you agree with him, then you and your lecturer are bunkers. Your father should marry you instead, since he is looking for millions to compensate for your "never be understated" value that is lost by giving you away in marriage.

The Nigerian female is a spectacularly disturbed human species. They pressure men for marriage, need marriage more than anything else, and yet they somehow believe that the man should kill himself to marry them because they think they hold some sort of vaguely defined value. If we're fucking or "dating" for a prolonged period of time, you are the one that would start pestering me 'when are we getting married', which means that marriage is more important to you than it is to me. That is the blatant truth for most men. Out of sheer pressure, a man would decide to marry, and then you start talking about bride price (or list) in the millions for you, because your value to your parents "cannot be understated". Na who send you?

Confused girls who want to be feminists and 'gender equalists' in the morning, and traditional commoditised African females at night. Choose your stance, and stick with it. Don't speak from both sides of your mouth.

It's a yardstick to test the ability of men to take care of you in future. Learn not to be wiser than your elders. For a man that want a wife for keeps for life, a man should be encouraged to go all out and look for means to handle his wedding. It is a test of strength like in the old times when men had to go hunting for game before they could take a wife. This was done to actuate the strength of the man to make sure you don't end with lazy men. Get understanding in all your getting.
This is a preposterous and scandalously shortsighted viewpoint. I am embarrassed on your behalf.

It's shocking how people can be so close minded and myopic.

So you do not know many men who could afford to pay the most exorbitant bride price and even splurged on the most lavish weddings yesteryear who are now dirt poor today....and simply lack the wherewithal to provide for their families?

Or you do not know many men who could not afford even the cheapest of wedding ceremonies back in the day when they managed to marry, but are filthy rich today?

It's disgusting how some of you clueless souls view life stations and circumstances in present absolute terms. Quite shocking.
CrimeRe: #SARS Officers Shoot, Whisk Away Lagos Trader by Hedonistically: 11:04am On Dec 15, 2017
SARS need to be taken off the streets completely. Their mandate should be to RESPOND to ongoing robbery cases, or to engage suspected armed robbers and kidnappers either in operation or after operation in their hideouts

That is exactly the original purpose of SARS. They have no business loafing around on the road, looking for random people to victimise.

I doubt u are a lawyer. cos I don't understand how a lawyer will say one is not obligated to explain ones source of wealth. Pls go and read and learn more
You must be quite miseducated if you think that lawyers must have a uniform opinion on any point of law. Since when did law become an exact science? If it were, then there would be no need to have lawyers on both sides (prosecutor and defendant), advancing diametrically divergent arguments. YOU should go and read and learn more, if your faculties permit.

And by the way, while at it, read your law books again and tell me where suspects are obligated to explain their source of wealth TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES. [Emphasis necessary]. Granted, explaining your wealth (or anything else for that matter) to law enforcement agents might help them understand you better and save you the ordeal of prosecution in court, but it is entirely optional. If you refuse to explain anything to them, they can only proceed to charge you to court on the basis of the prima facie evidence they have against you (which is bad practice, by the way). It is when you get to court that you are obligated to explain TO THE COURT (again, emphasis necessary), as part of your defence. It is only the court that is empowered by law to determine whether your explanation is satisfactory or not. This point is very very important, because law enforcement agents cannot arrest you, ask you stupid questions, and then decide whether your answers are "satisfactory" or not. That defeats the whole purpose of fair hearing in jurisprudence, as one cannot be the arresting authority, judge, jury and executioner all in one.

wealth acquired under suspicious circumstances can be forfeited to the government if he can't give reasonable explanation on how those properties were acquired then it's bye bye
Again, see my above assertion. What exactly is "reasonable"? I'd there any objective criteria, stipulated by law, to determine what is reasonable? And who does the law empower to interpret what explanation is reasonable or not? We have to know how the Rule of Law works. The law does not empower individuals within law enforcement circles with the arbitrary authority to make subjective interpretations. Otherwise, there would be a million ways to twist the bounds of reason in line with personal and malicious agendas.

While enforcement agencies can decide that a person's wealth was acquired under "suspicious" circumstances, they lack the power to make judgments about whether the person's explanation about the source of such wealth is "reasonable" or not. Only the courts can decide that!!!

the laws allow for the security agencies to ask for your source of wealth and you are compelled by law to explain your source of wealth
"The law allows for the security agencies to ask for your source of wealth", TRUE. BUT.... "and you are compelled by law to explain your wealth (to security agencies)? That is a bloody lie. You must be reading your law books upside down. Many people don't know their rights, and many lawyers in this part of the world are too daft and ignorant to know the nuanced provisions, contours and extensities of the law, hence the prevalence of this fallacy. Like I mentioned earlier, YOU ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO EXPLAIN ANYTHING TO THE LAW ENFORCEMENT Agencies (key word, obligated). You can only choose to explain if you think it serves your best interest to do so, as in, it helps you avoid being detained or prosecuted. You cannot explain rubbish and then have your explanation used against you in court. Save that explanation for the courts, because that's where you are obligated to offer an explanation as part of your defence.

so he can be convicted to have acquired those properties under suspicious circumstances
though he might not be criminally convicted until the prosecutor can provide evidence of corruption or stealing but at least he will forfeit those properties either there is proof of wrong doing or not so long he can't explain his source of wealth
Now you're talking. Since you mentioned convicted, we can both agree that the security agencies cannot convict anyone. It is the court that convicts, and so it is the court that the suspect needs to make a "reasonable" explanation to, to avoid conviction.

And my earlier point is that it is very easy for a decent lawyer to craft a compelling explanation that would help the obviously corrupt director escape conviction. If, at the end of the day the case rests merely on the prima facie evidence pertaining to the suspect's mere possession of properties suspected to he above his means, then a variety of creative explanations can be concocted. I can personally do this very well. But if gard evidence of guilt, acquired through diligent and painstaking investigation by the security agencies, is presented then of course it would be easier to nail the suspect and secure a conviction.

This is a no-brainer.

PoliticsRe: Ibrahim Tumsah To Forfeit 86 Vehicles, Four Houses To FG by Hedonistically:
Nigerian law enforcement agencies always rely too much on prima facie evidence and the self-indicting "explanation" or "confession" of suspects. This is laziness of the highest order, and is one of the reasons why corruption cannot be defeated at this time.

Granted, the director is clearly corrupt - as EVERY OTHER civil servant and public office holder in Nigeria is (including the so-called investigators themselves and the High Court Judge handling the case). But that is besides the point.

The investigators have not established a paper trail showing exactly how the director stole public funds and illegally acquired his assets. The charge that he could not "explain or justify" his wealth is absolute nonsense. To begin with he is not obligated by law to explain anything to you. Besides, you are not competent to arbitrarily decide whether his explanation is acceptable or not.

What you should do and must do is to investigate how he corruptly acquired the funds and how he illegally acquired his assets. Which contracts were illegally awarded or inflated? Which kickbacks were paid and how were they paid? Which documents were forged? Which government funds were unremitted? Etc. Etc. That's the hard work in criminal investigation, and you cannot shy away from such hard work! It is daft to just rush to court and say that somebody cannot explain their wealth.

Without this, I'm sorry the case before the court is watery, and the director and his brother will easily be acquitted even with an average lawyer.

A pastor is 'busy" doing what exactly? Doing what that requires spending tens of millions of dollars buying private jets and additional millions annually to maintain the jets? Which problem is he solving by being "busy'", and more importantly, which problems is he NOT solving by wasting money on private jets?

You idiots need to read about the SACRIFICES of the colonial era missionaries who left their occupations, wealth, families, and everything in Europe to come to Africa to spread the Gospel. They came with only one agenda: to spread the Gospel, even with their own life savings.... with a determination to bear the discomforts to suffer in the African mosquito infested bushes in order to win souls for Christ!

Now, we have pastors who can't be inconvenienced by economy class in airlines because they are "busy". Busy preaching about tithes to fools. They have preaching engagements here and there so they must buy jets to meet up. What is the urgency of this rubbish? They are comparing themselves to normal worldly businessmen like Dangote and Adenuga who have made money the worldly way and SHOULD enjoy their money the worldly way! Besides Dangote has businesses worldwide and it shouldn't be a problem if he decided to buy a jet to meet up with urgent business meetings here and there.

What is URGENT about preaching nonsense? that these bastard pastors must spend billions of Naira on jets, to the detriment of millions of hungry and poor people they could have used that money to help?

Meaning that they have thousands of vehicle scattered all over the country. There is a high odd that even in a week one will crash. Not like other companies that have less than 50 vehicles, so for one of it to crash might take one or two years. Simple mathematics
True talk. Most people are just unnecessarily sentimental. I've used almost all the major transport companies for my Eastern movements and to be very honest, they're mostly the same basically. There's no real difference between Peace Mass drivers and God is Good drivers. You could meet very rude and rough ones, just as you could meet very nice and cool ones...this applies to all the major companies.

The major difference lies in packaging and marketing. That's where the likes of God is Good excel. You would see self-deluding queuing up to buy their tickets at God is Good parks as if the experience is 'safer' or more worthwhile. It is not. And I pity people who waste precious time (and pay higher transport fares) doing that. It's not necessarily different from Peace Mass, other than that its drivers like to call themselves "captains" because they wear uniforms.
Bottom line, they are all the same safety wise; when you hit the long bushy, lonely road, anything can happen. It's just God that saves our lives when we travel.
