1. Most babies have skin issues within the few weeks/months of their birth. This is normal and it should naturally clear on its own. From my own investigation based on my kids, this skin wahala especially for black African babies is due to dryness of skin, so its good for babies skin to be properly moisturized and sadly a lot of baby lotion we use do not do that very well. So with my last child i decided to use coconut oil which i bought from a hospital in Abuja, and trust me it performed magic. I wish i could share a pic of her skin, its smooth and she is so so light. So mummies like me who suffered emotional stress because of baby skin wahala, please just look for coconut oil and start using, you will come back here and give testimony. PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY STERIODS ON THE BABY,IT WILL WORSEN THE SKIN.
Yep. I can testify to this too.

100% cold pressed coconut oil is what I have been using on my baby since day 1. He's got lovely, radiant skin and he has remained light complexioned.

For his hair, it's the same coconut oil but mixed with pure olive oil.

Pap is good o. I make the twins pap by myself. Pap and soya. I don't mix cray or nuts cos of allergies. And they drink it as if say... Lol. They only started eating amala yesterday. The only foods they've been eating for two months straight now is pap and dodomie(indomie) as well as other little things go that come from our plate. #lazymom

Someone just introduce semo to me too. The watery form. Made it for them, added milk and whoosh... Bowl empty (except only twin girl ate it while Bobo was suckin his thumb)

I gave them carrots and expensive broccoli I bought... Wasted!

But they can drink orange till they pass out cheesy
Sayo dear, some people will come here and scream blue murder and rant about how indomie is bad for babies, it contains chemicals, blah blah.

To each their own. Every mum has their own preference on what type of meal they deem suitable for their child.

To me, I am absolutely no fan of pap and yes, my baby won't be having any of it. That's my choice! Other mums have also come here to also express their dislike for pap. So why that poster will want to 'attack' me for my choice, beats me. undecided

That said, broccoli is disgusting! grin Tastes like rubber. grin

Pap is 100% better Dan all dese chemicals dey mix and sell, it's natural food, babies need d carbohydrate and oda nutritional benefits which can be gotten 4rm d formula used with it or even well ground crayfish(optional). U can decide not 2 give ur baby pap buh dnt discourage young mothers. Infact I'l advice mothers 2 try and limit d quantity of chemicals dey pump in dere babies all in d name of feeding. #my2pence

A very big wild cat have been killing my chicken for some time now. i have lost so many and just this past 2 days it killed 2 cock and a hen.
today its luck ran out. Check the photos.
If you ever have the opportunity to live or work overseas, just make sure you do not pull such stunt for whatever reason.

It is sold over d counter does not make it ok to give an infant cough syrup. I kno too well that in d UK, no pead will advice u to give an infant cough syrup b4 d child is examined. In d UK, when u take an infant to d hospital cos of cough, they examine d child 1st and if everything is ok d pead tells d mum to just give warm water to drink and probably vit C cos cough syrup will not cure d cough. (atleast this I kno is obtainable in d Uk from experience and with a UK practising pead in d house)
Erm. . No doctor or peadictrian in the UK will tell you to give a baby vitamin C supplements. They won't even prescribe it. You cannot even find vitamin C syrup for babies sold OTC here. If in doubt, go to boots and co or check online and confirm if they are sold.

I'm amazed when I read/hear mum giving their babies abidec and co.

Even the wellman multivitamin syrup sold OTC is only for babies 4 months plus.

The fact is if a baby is suffering from a bad case of congested chest/nose as a result of cough/cold, the baby is admitted with a tube passed into the body to extract all the mucus - fact! (My baby was almost made to face this. I was asked to monitor him for another 24 hours to see if he gets any better and if not, I should bring him in but thank God, with some home remedies, he gradually recovered).

If it's a slightly mild case which has been ongoing for at least 7 days, then antibiotics are prescribed.

As Nita2013 said, cough syrups are not advisable for infants aside from easing the symtopms of a cold it does not cure it. That it's available over the counter doesn't make it safe.
Mumsgirl27..pls continue with the vitamin C if it persists, pls see a Dr.
Truth is whether you give cough syrup or not its still going to run its course.
The cough syrups off limit are those with codeine.

If the ones sold at my end for babies 3 months and older posed even the slightest of risks, they won't be sold as OTC and by now the drug companies and the pharmacies would have been slapped with a billion law suits, not forgetting the fact that cough and cold is the most common ailment here thanks to the weather.

All said and done, it's the poster's choice on what she wants to do. Leave her child to continue coughing or get OTC medication or see her doctor.

Cough syrup is not advisable for infants. This has been said lots of times here. If it bothers d mum so much, she should take d child to d hospital and after they check and see that everything is ok, they ll only tell d mum to take d baby back home.

Cough/ Cattarh av a cycle of 10days after which it's advisable to seek medical help. I know it's not easy to watch ur baby cough helplessly but if d mum is patient enough she ll see that it will go but if d cough persists after 10days then hospital it is.

@mumsgirl27 pls continue with d vit C and cover ur baby well too. Take care of his/her feeding items if u r not doing only breastfeeding. If u can't stand d cough, pls go to d hospital and don't self medicate. Don't worry ur LO will be fine
erm. . . if cough syrups are bad and not advisable for infants older than 3 months , then why do Boots as well as other top pharmcies in the entire United Kingdom sell them as over the counter medcine (not prescription oh) huh huh huh huh

http://www.boots.com/en/Tixylix-Baby-Syrup-3-months-100ml_1660/

http://www.lloydspharmacy.com/en/tixylix-toddler-syrup-100ml-14221

the united kingdom that i know, there is very strict regulation and control on medcines. if any drug poses any risk to an adult, how much more a baby, it wont be available OTC but on doctor's precription only which isnt the case with this cough syrup

I have just checked on the website, all slots in January and February are fully booked.
Your best bet is to appear at the high commission and take a gamble.
One of four options are available........
- Plead your case and hope they hear
- They turn you back
- Just take a gamble and plead innocence
- All fails and you appear on original slated day

NB: Your Passport is usually ready for pickup within 7 days. Same length for post-backs.
the whole process is confusing to be honest.

i have a date automatically chosen for me on the immigration website (february)

on the high commission website, i tried booking a slot and the earliest is march.

i am trying to get a date earlier than february though.

which slpt should an applicant stick to - the one from the immigration website or the high commission website?

Thanks my fellow August mama, i usually give her vitamin c bt the cough isn't reducing....How is ur Lo doing...
get her cough syrup for babies asap before it gets any worse.

she's over 3 months so its safe for her to use it.

however, stop using it once the cough stops.

''Tixylix'' for babies is a very good and effective one

pls are you saying if i turn up there earlier than the slot on my slip, i will be attended to?

i have a slot booked for next month but i really need the passport earlier than that

Forget about the slot, you would pick a tally number when you arrive NHC.
Points to note - :
- Make sure you print all documentation you filled out
- Make sure you have £20.00 postal order
- And if you require them to post passport back to you after amendment. Include a self addressed express prepaid envelope(it cost about £7.00) If picking up don't bother.
- Expect to spend about 6 hours!!!
- I think all applicants would not be seen after 1300hrs,if you have tally number, you would still be seen.
Enjoy
pls are you saying if i turn up there earlier than the slot on my slip, i will be attended to?

I will advise you endure and remain humble. Keep washing the dishes, tidying the house, etc and intensify your job hunt and most importantly keep praying. Once you get a job, you can then move to your own place.

Just came across this thread.@lizzy22 please what formula are you using. My son is 3weeks and has refused to suck so i've been expressing. His appetite seems to have increased but bm seems to have reduced greatly, right now am so worked up cos i really wanted to bf till at least 3months. Pls any other person who can help with the formula i can get or what else to do. thanks
Get aptamil.

It's the best breast milk substitute in the market. Keep breastfeeding him and supplementing with aptamil Until your flow improves and the you can stop or reduce his formula intake.

Relax dear. You need to be relaxed and calm as this will help in improving your milk flow. It was when I took things easy and ate really well (all sorts of fruits and endless cups of thick milo grin) that my milk began to flow and even leak seriously.

If you can withstand the taste of pap, take lots of it - many times a day. It helps.

Please I'm not a mother. I'm a new father. please I want to know if it is ok breastfeeding a baby while lying down. What are the dangers. What are your advice.
The baby just turned a month yesterday (Friday) and he practically sucks everytime. Now trouble is he doesn't sleep unless he has a teat in his mouth. Unless this, he keeps everybody up all night, but his mum now indulges him by sticking one breast in his mouth which cutting some sleep. This gives us a bit of a reprieve
But
I'm scared if this is a correct practice or otherwise. Please your advice is needed asap.
Bless you
I have always fed my baby this way and I have had absolutely no issues.

I support myself with pillows, I place him on a flat pillow, bring my breastttt to his mouth and he sucks away and I'm able to rest/sleep. Happy baby, happy mum smiley

This method is far better than sitting down and then dozing away and accidentally dropping the child or the child slips from the hands (believe me, it happens).

Breastfeeding is HARD WORK. It involves a lot of body muscles. Neck, hands, Shoulders, fingers, etc so let your wife adopt a most comfortable breastfeeding position that suits her and your baby.

Get 'lasinoh' cream for your sore nipples. It is very, very effective and gives almost instant relief.

Take oats or pap with lots of milk. It will increase your milk supply.

Even though your milk isn't flowing well, don't stop breast feeding your baby as often as possible (as it helps in improving your flow) and you can keep supplementing with formula until your milk flow can meet up with your baby's demand.
