PoliticsMistakes And Lessons From President Goodluck Jonathan's Style Of Governance. by highmood(op): 10:26am On Apr 01, 2015
Dear Nairalanders, the Presidential election is over and the winner known, we are waiting for the gubernatorial election. I think it will be interesting and educative as intellectuals, professionals, learners, groups etc. to make known the mistakes of president Goodluck Jonathan and what we as a the leaders of tomorrow should learn from his leadership style.
Please feel free to make an input. Thank you.
Let me hit the ground running:

1. President Goodluck made a mistake in relying solely on the north which later affected his re-election notwithstanding all he did for them at the expense of other regions. Simply stated, the result from the north shows evidence of betrayal. The southwest would have come to the rescue having had that assurance that the southeast and south south would give him votes, but he rather approached them(SW) late when the change slogan has taken over them else the division of votes- in politics let every region, tribes feel you pain as well as the gains in considerable measure.

2. President Goodluck failed to take the activities of professor Jega and many other ministers into consideration. He so trusted them that he overlooked every thing they did even the advice people gave to him about Jega been compromised. Even when it was clear that there were underage voters registration, when the south complained about delay and missing PVCs, the president never responded decisive-Problem of so much trust and strictness.

3. The visit of Buhari to UK may have changed things. I think the UK may have reminded the northern governors and elites of the slogan "Born to Rule" else they decided to support Buhari-There are powers that be, you must not underestimate.

4. Religion cannot be underestimated. The north are not all that tribalistic but thier religion can changed thier psyche- let the faith you believe in feel your commitment but not to the detriment of others. Let other religions never see you as a threat to them

5. The nature of the economy especially the issue of power which people has been yearning for was not addressed. When Prof. Nnaji did the magic in the power sector, citizens of Nigeria and abroad commended him. If it were to be during an election, Goodluck would have won just because of that, But unfortunately, he let the intelligent Prof to go and kept getting wrong feedback from some rich political class working with him- well as a future leader, never take the voices and the yearnings of the people for granted. Just as they say, the voices of the people is the voice of God

6. Goodluck knew those corrupt people, yet he never acted. He rather he chained the EFCC somewhere just as been witness in NAFDAC and allowed those corrupt people to flaunt thier ill gotten wealth.- the lesson is that sometimes you use some people as scape goats, others will learn quickly.

7. Fear. President Goodluck was scared. He allowed the propaganda of the opposition and even threat as well as activities of some northerners to drown him- as a leader, be fearless but impartial.

Exactly. He banked completely on the north and they turned out to betray him notwithstanding all he did for them. Simply stated, the result from the north shows evidence of betrayal. The southwest would have come to the rescue since he is sure the southeast and south south would give him votes, but he rather approached them late when the change slogan has taken over them else the division of votes.

2. Good luck fail to take the activities of professor Jega into consideration. He so trusted him that he overlooked every thing he does and even the advice people gave to him about Jega been compromised. Even when it was clear that there were underage voters registration, when the south complained about delay and missing PVC, he never responded decisive.

3. The visit of Buhari to UK may have changed things. I think the UK may have reminded the northern governors and elites of the slogan "Born to Rule" else they decided to support Buhari.

4. Religion cannot be underestimated. The north are not all that tribalistic but thier religion can change thier psyche instantly.

5. Finally the nature of the economy especially the issue of power which people has been yearning for cannot be addressed. When Prof. Nnaji did the magic in the power sector, people commended him and if it were to be during an election, Goodluck would have won. But unfortunately, he let the intelligent Prof to go and kept getting poor advice and information from some people working with him.

6. And, Goodluck knew those corrupt people, yet he never acted. Jagaban is one of those who is accumulating ill gotten wealth, Rather than Goodluck use the EFCC as his bull dog to keep chasing him not to even flaunt the wealth. He chained the EFCC somewhere and allowed Jagaban to use his wealth to sponsor buhari. Now Jagaban is untouchable except if Buhari turns against him and use him as a scape goat.

Even if they were called for a meeting and see the president coming, why not leave for the president pass. Guys and ladies please caution and advice you mothers oh! It seems this quest to be relevant in our local politics are making them not to be smelling how deadly politics is. Ask Beniza Bhutto, Mko wife etc. These politicians can not be trusted a bit.

Hmmmmm! Beautiful Dr. Yinka Odunmakin. U know I use to think almost all Yorubas have been cajoled to fall for the antics of this jagaweeders, but my perception changed immediately after reading this. I now believe that some yorubas big wigs and elders only decided to keep quiet for peace to reign not because they don't know the injustice, heavy looting, corruption, senselessness, deception, propagandas and wickedness going on before their eyes. Fasho-ole better remember that before Abraham, Jesus was and an Okro tree do not get taller than its planter. Let the battle for Alausa begin. As for the presidential, the estate managers have not pasted any notice of any sort of vacancy. Goodluck Jonathan moving us forward.

PoliticsRe: NDI-IGBO: APC Promises Toll-Free 2nd Niger Bridge by highmood(m): 2:54pm On Mar 24, 2015
LRNZH:
Please do not mix up things here.

A state government bridge is not the same as a federal government bridge. Lekki-Ikoyi suspension link bridge is wholly state sponsored and the first of its kind in Nigeria. That's is Lagos State issue.

Under GEJ, the 2nd Niger Bridge will be the only tolled FG bridge in Nigeria. What have the Ndi-Igbo done to deserve this injustice? Let GEJ/PDP build one toll bridge each geopolitical zone to be fair.

cc: Lalasticlala, Ishilove, Maclatunji, Obinoscopy, OAM4J
are the igbos sleeping, eating or transacting on the bridge. Are the southeasterners the only people that would be making use of the bridge? People going to cross-river, akwa-ibom, rivers would be making use of the bridge so why the cry? Again my problem with APC and the issue why continuity must be encouraged in the federal level, the APC planning to revoke a and cancel a contract that is already awarded and with this problem of fall in oil, I wonder where they would get that huge sum to finance such a gigantic project whereby they know it's not just the priority of the Igbos. Again, Lekki toll is an example, if the people are paying thier tax, and the state government receiving allocations from the government, they ought to have provided the project without tolling, or are you trying to make us understand that Lagos is not in Nigeria and not administered by a Nigerian, so should be paying for tolls? APC should keep thier gimmicks to themselves, let the bridge be constructed first, when the 2019 election comes up, the ruling party will be forced to reverse any policy on that bridge. The main thing is to see the bridge first.

I expected you to ask the candidate who chickened out of a debate how he would make that happen, you are quick to call Mr. President clueless. What happened? Where was he, when others were telling the world what they will be doing for the country and how. How I wish this is 2019, APC and PDP may not have a chance if is it based on intellectual ability and even political will. The Matin Onovo and Godson Okoye and one other man among the first set of debaters would have swept them away. But for now, the incumbent still stand the chance.

ratchetwrench:
Being a very diplomatic country they are, America will never come out to tell you that they can't deploy troops against boko haram because they don't like the present nigerian government. The handwriting on the wall is legible enough. Since GEJ has gotten to power Nigeria relationship with other foreign countries has been soiled tremendously. His relationship with Obama is bad likewise with David Cameron. Nobody wants to associate with this man. But they are all watching keenly nigeria election. If Jonathan wins genuinely they are going to leave nigerians to their fate for another 4 years. But if Buhari wins, they will observe him for months and see if he's someone they can associate with. And if GEJ rigs the election he should be expected to be ousted out like Gbagbo by the world power
and ask yourself why the US and UK have damping the diplomatic relations between Nigeria? Don't just criticize the government for no good reason. Do you know just because he had refused to listen to thier demands to sign the Gay Right Law has caused this breakdown in diplomatic ties? And is it good to sign such an horrible law? If no, what wrong has this man done? Its not everything is been disclosed for public knowledge. Ben Cason mother told him"..do you have a brain? Then use it."

owobokiri:
I am not an APC member and I can assure whosoever that is reading that the reason Okorochas name is being mentioned in the negatives here is because he is not just APC but a boisterous member determined to lure the whole igbo into Tinubu/Buharis APC. Lots of igbo hate that . But that said, the best governor in the whole of SE as we speak is Rochas Okorocha! He has his massive flaws, for instance, the quality of his roads can do better. He should also stop promoting a jihadist party that is DOA in the east. Apart from these, dude is on steroids! To me, it is a crime against humanity to put Obianos name in this same sentence with Okorochas . But then measuring dikcz has become a favourite pastime for our belligerent BROTHERS from Anambra . Otherwise, what has a bemused Willie done to earn such respect? Cleaning of upper iweka? Where are tthe roads being done by Obiano? Imo state is a construction site under Rochas. State of the art General hospitals in every Local government. New university. Almost every rural road under construction. Free education, less corruption. If this guy was into mainstream politics say with APGA or PDP, my guess is that he will be celebrated across board as the best Governor east of the Niger as we speak.
I hope you are residing in the east before making your comment. Well, I think Rochas tried and would have been a presidential candidate for the southeast, but I think his alliance with the opposition APC has really made that hope to be gloomy and caused a disaffection from his kinsmen from the east as a whole. Again, you cannot be judging Obianor less than 8months in office (I stand to be corrected) to Rochas. Lets give him some time. But the security aspect and the cleansing of upperiweka is something to commend. Until the roads he has awarded is completed, we cannot be saying how much he has done. But Rochas, Obianor, Sullivan (in no particular order) is trying but for elechi and Orji. I hold my peace.
PoliticsRe: 25,000 Pastors To Hold Prayers For Buhari In Lagos by highmood(m):
nogames:
With this statement of yours what is different between you and those you are referring to? I was surprise when a popular pastor said something like this few days ago, i wounder what Christianity is turning to? funny enough the same pastor has many branches in north collecting tithe and offering from them, church should devolve herself from ethnic bigotry. The bible position is clear on this......
"And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath
determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;" Acts 17:26
I am form SW a yoruba not by choice but that is how God want it, the same thing happen to Northerners and easterners.God determined our bounds of habitation,so we need to tolerate and respect one another
the difference between me and them and some gullible Christians is that I am going to vote for the truth not out of sentiments, but because I know were we where and where we would have been had it been these so called people clamoring for change and who had rule this country for many years , who shamelessly is still calling us the leaders of tomorrow when its obvious some of us have started growing white hairs had not laid a solid foundation as well as set a good yardstick for us to believe they performed more than the incumbent in all region and ramification. If they had failed to diversify the economy during thier tenure due to thier laziness and quest for quick petrol dollars, then why are they heaping the blame on the incumbent as if they don't know how long its takes for an economy that is heading towards a path of development through a mixed or capitalist economic system takes to come fully on stream. If I may ask you, if an agricultural sector is diversified today, how long will the people started feeling the impact? While giving an answer tell me for instance if the price of rice has gone beyond 10,000 when we know before last year it was about 12500. In 2011, people voted for Fashola for the second time because there was a clear difference between his administration and the previous once. Tell me what others have done to say this man has not started well. One cannot sit in a region or in a state and make an hasty generalization. They say he is not fighting Boko haram, yet forgetting that the US and the British frustrated his effort to purchase arms and even physically decline to join the fight because he refused to sign the gay law. Yet some embittered set of people had expected him to eliminate an entire community for them to believe he is doing well or maybe for them to have a point to sue him to ICC. Again, you asked what Christianity is turning into, yes it will when Christians like you believes it doesn't matter, and a non Christians like Buhari and his likes who do not believe in your savior but because of election could boldly stand on your pulpit with a cap on and never give honor to God. Again, if Buhari is the true change we need can you please justify his association with some well known corrupt government officials? Who, you I believe, know they are corrupt and even you once called corrupt, or will you tell me they have repented and have given thier ill gotten wealth to the poor? I am not against Muslims or northerners or any region, but what is good for the goose is good for the gender. Probably, you believe a 72 year old buhari is the only "qualified" man to lead you. Think well. Write me, I would love to engage you more.

Listening to some "religious leaders" I laugh. They say Nigeria is one but in thier presence some group of people said they are born to rule and they kept quiet. In thier presence, this same man came out to say baboons and dogs will be soaked in blood, it happened and they kept quiet. In thier presence this so called righteous politician as claimed by this righteous pastors said he will never contest again after 2011, today, he has not honored his word and you say he is righteous? In thier presence some group have been sidelined in the political scheme since independence yet they think that is justice and with that we are one right? What religion and ethnicity will cause in this country is yet to be disclosed. Am not even bothered about this election because it is not negotiable with GEJ, I am bothered about 2019 when the southeast or middlebelt will be ready to take their rightful position in this country. Meanwhile, Lord I thank you for the forthcoming election because the enemies of this country, some people in the polity and even in our religious houses will be exposed. #NeverAgain. GEJ till 2019

Summary: Yorubas In Lagos determine who wins!
this is an expensive misconception I really love. Now do u know directly and indirectly PDP have 2 candidates? Jimmy and Obanikoro. There will never be a time when the kinsmen of Jimmy will abandon him no matter how much APC thinks they have performed. For Obanikoro, I believe u can see his alliance with the dosumu's family to canvass vote for PDP on the island and for the sake of the badagry people who have been marginalized for long by APC, the people will support thier daughter so that PDP will win. The contest will not be easy though, but I think Jimmy is doing the right thing now. Those that will determine who wins is the non-indigenes especially the non Yorubas residing here. I think some people especially some yorubas are fade up with one-man owning virtually all what belongs to the state. Where on this earth, is this thing happening? Only in a land where some people are easily deceived by rhetorics.

PDP is distributing handbills in Ikeja since afternoon as an aftermath of the meeting in Ibadan. If I may ask, why wasting money? This is the 3rd time this meeting would be held. The same meeting took place in Akure few days ago and now in Ibadan with the same output of supporting Jonathan. This same meeting had taken place in Ife, Akure and Ibadan. The last two was sponsored by Mimiko who first came to power through an assistance from Tinubu.

Holding this meeting 1oo times can not change the resolution of people. The only achievement of these meetings is the bringing together of Gani Adams and Fasehun who are arch enemies and never agreed on any issue but now on the same table supporting Jonathan. Money is good o. Gani - Fasehun - Money answereth all things.

These groups are operating under many parties - UPN, SDP, AD and Labour party. The purpose of these parties is to destablise APC in South West for PDP to dominate helplessly, but, now, it appears all the efforts of these parties are of no effect. Now, the men behind the masquerades have come out to fight clean and dirty. They are fighting the battles of their life time.

Coming to the handbills being distributed where they displayed the pictures of former governors in south west jailed by buhari and the assault on Awo by buhari. They forgot to put the pictures of other governors in the North that are also jailed by the same regime.

Umaru Dikko is from Katsina just like buhari, Umaru dikko narrowly escaped being extradited to Nigeria in container. Nobody comes to equity without a clean hand. In a regime, the character of equality, equity and transparency are the hallmark of a leader. If Umaru Dikko, a Katsina person can be declared wanted at all cost without any tribal bias, then the decision of the military government as at that time is pure on the coup policy. It is a fair level judgement on all politician as at that time.

Now, coming back to the sacking of variuos yorubas from positions of authority and neglect of the region by GEJ in his six years. No major FG project was commissioned. The Ore - benin and Ibadan - Lagos expressway that was starved of fund only to hurriedly arrange for loans through infrastructure bank to increase job tempo on Lagos - Ibadan job for political campaign. Infrastructure bank has the largest counterpart funding in the project which is a PPP which means their money will be recovered back through toll gate or other means.

The Yoruba leaders should have deliberated on the death of Sunday Afolabi, the disgrace of Tafa balogun, humiliation of Bola Osomo (Obj era), Prof Mrs Adenike Grange (Yaradua). Sacking of Bola Onagoruwa, Harold Demuren and NCAA DG that replaced demuren, the removal and frustration of various yorubas from various positions too numerous to mention here under GEJ. The intimidation and harrassment to submission given to FFK by EFCC while Stella Oduah and others corrupt official moves freely is a sin against humanity. Arunmah Oteh survived her tenure but bola onagoruwa was removed for committing no sin. He should mention one major FG project commission in this region.

All the major positions in Finance, petroleum, energy and other places where money can be siphoned are no go area to Yorubas. They just exist under Jonathan. They want him to sign a pact with them. No way. No pact.
all the places some Yorubas have been milking the country dry I guess.

PoliticsThe Prophet Behind President Goodluck Speaks by highmood(op):
Religion have been known to be a determinant of successes in Nigeria elections especially its presidential elections; another is ethnicity. Notwithstanding calls by many individuals, groups, politicians and political parties that voters should shun the aforementioned determinants but rather cast their votes based on qualification, ability, performance and track records, many still see these determinants playing out even if not as much as it use to.
One among other clerics who believes that religion and even ethnicity will still be playing a role until sometime in the future when electorates becomes more informed is a calm "no noise making" spiritual father of the president, His Eminence, Bishop Sampson Benjamin Mustapha; the Bishop and General Overseer of Resurrection Praise Ministry, Satellite town lagos. He is a man who without fear or sentiments have been praying and clamoring for the support of President Goodluck Jonathan even before the 2011 election.
It is doubtful to believe that the northern born religious leader do not hide his support for the president(a christian) except if you are or have been worshipping in its church of over 8000 members. The Bishop and United Nations ambassador believes that with the activities of the ISIS, Al quaeda, Al shabab, in other part of world including the threat by the Boko Haram elements and thier supporters to Islamize the country, there is a need for a God fearing, understanding and a detribalize individual to remain in the hem of affairs. He was speaking to a great number of worshippers during a Sunday service, he said.." the picture and challenges of Nigerians after President Shehu Shagari administration till 2007 is still clear to me and I must honestly tell you, President Goodluck Jonathan have done well irrespective of the challenges. I am from the north and have no hatred for Muslims at all as some of you may have been aware that, some of my kinsmen are Muslims. But then, some people like the extremist, thier sympathizers and sponsors need to understand that Nigeria is a secular state, and individuals right and freedom of worship must be respected".
The Bishop continued by citing cases of turkey, Lebanon etc who were once Christian countries saying that".. if the Christians in Nigeria thinks the activities of the sect does not matter, then they should be ready not to hand over Christianity to thier future generations".
The Bishop who in September 2014 visited Chibok and some other communities affected by the activities of the sect to pray and sympathize with the people commended the military's effort in fighting this Islamic sect.
Bishop Sampson Benjamin who some thinks is a party affiliate debunked the thought of being partisan but rather he stated categorically that he is out to defend the cross and would never be alive to see Nigeria go the way of turkey. But would continue to pray for a Nation where the Muslims and Christians worship where and when they want without intimidation or fear.
On whether people should support president Goodluck, he said Nigerians for now have no better choice. He boldly said that president Goodluck Jonathan is a God sent. He painted a picture of how the president rose to be in his present position and said, it is not ordinary.".. there is a power behind his position".
The Bishop and UN ambassador told the worshippers that president Goodluck Jonathan though not perfect has surpassed his predecessors in terms of achievement but he needs more time to build on the good foundation he has laid. He said ".. Mind you, Rome was not built in a day. It took America more than 400 years to be where they are today. I must agree, there are challenges and difficult in Nigeria and Africa as a whole, but we must not relent in praying for our country and leaders as they are humans like us and needs grace. We have not gotten to our destination yet, but if the president would continue on his developmental strides and try as much as possible to identify some wrong people in his cabinet, he would be placing Nigeria more on a greater position in the world". The Bishop also told the congregation to circumspectly identify federal, state and local government projects so as to give credits to those that merits it.
It is saddening to Bishop Sampson Benjamin Mustapha that some people are meant to rule while others are not. He said " some region should not be sidelined in the scheme of things in this country else they would feel cheated". The Bishop continued by saying that the resources of the south-south have been used to develop many cities like Lagos, Abuja and even the entire country and for that reasons and many more, Nigerians should give the president who is from a "minority" ethnic group the support he needs in the name of equity and justice.
The bishop advised the worshippers to go out and make sure they get thier PVCs as this year's election would be very difficult to be rigged whether by the ruling party or the opposition but that the votes of Nigerians is now been treasured by politicians than in the past due to the honest electoral reform by the president.
He also advised the INEC to make sure all registered voters get thier card even if it will take the commission to go closer to the people.
He advised youths not to be clouded with sentiments but eschew violence and see themselves as the future this great country Nigeria is looking forward to. He advices youths that if they are involved in violence and unfortunately get killed, Nigeria will never wait for them to wake but rather continue to move forward. He told youths they should learn from the past to be able to make sound decision.

Apologies to the supermod in advance.

Please can we have a ban on silly and crass comments about the President and General Buhari.

Comments such as the President being responsible for Boko Haram......and comments calling Buhari a terrorist.

Such comments are unnecessary and silly and not becoming of us as human beings and as Nigerians.

Let us have decorum on this site. We are not animals. Criticize, yes, but with respect.
No oh! They should continue. That is democracy for you. In all "foolish" words, there must be an iota of truth. Apart from that, it cracks me up atimes when I am moody.
