The calculation is very obvious. The battle between Saraki and the APC godfathers is an all-loser battle, no matter the outcome. Should Saraki be removed, PDP will capture the Senate presidency/leadership; should Saraki remain in office, any ministerial nominee emanating or related to the godfathers will never scale through. |
Smithkline555:It will be better if you stop seeing unfavourable but factual analysis of the Buhari's administration as wailing and such Analysts, as wailers. I never voted for Buhari and couldn't have done so but I must tell you that I have absolute confidence that Buhari will succeed, or at least surpass the previous presidents that ever governed the nNigerian state. However, it is unfortunate that he is surrounded by people who are hell bent on misrepresenting him and giving a wrong impression of him. Most of the things Nigerians are attacking Buhari for, never emanated from PMB but his media Aides. Instead of managing his public image and advising him aright, they are obstinately insistent on compelling him to make unrealistic statements with unnecessary deadlines. As a public office holder, anything you say, must be analysed to the last, even your tenses. The deadline to "form" his cabinet latest end of September, was absolutely unnecessary and the deadline was unrealistic because you can't "form" your cabinet when Senate was yet to start screening. At best, PMB can only SELECT candidates for screening, and can only form the cabinet with successfully screened candidates. There is no magic that will make Buhari swear in his ministers on 30th September and that constitutes mendacity that was avoidable. So we can't have a cabinet but perhaps, may have proposed list of ministerial nominees for screening. I support and pray for him to succeed because it is better for you and I. |
bossto:Its very simple and it's something you can do alone, perhaps with a little guidance. I had a brilliant colleague who had same problem (pronouncing LIKE as NIKE) but today she is even more fluent than most of us. It will cost you NOTHING. Just contact me and I will tell you what you need to do. |
Shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn-in as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he reiterated his commitment towards fighting corruption and the resuscitation of our moribund economy. The anti-corruption war was to reflect in his body-language and the quality of people to be recruited to his team, and this implies that the president needed to be careful so as to appoint only credible, competent and honest people. He didn't disappoint as he showed flashes of his commitment with such unprecedented sacrifices as offering to accept 50 percent pay cut and rejecting a proposal for a new presidential fleet. When Nigerians started questioning his competence and accusing him of running a solitary government, based on his delay in forming his cabinet, his response was that, it is better to be careful in his selection to avoid errors. In fact, he joked that it was better to be slow and steady, when he was nicknamed "BABA GO SLOW" by Nigerians. The President had on September 07,2015 in Ghana, promised to form his cabinet before the end of September 2015, but I suspect that he said that "ONLY" to suppress the pressure from journalists and other concerned vocal Nigerians. Now aside the agitation and frowning by observers based on the suspicion of another premeditated perfidy, which is only going to add to the numerous breached promises made to Nigerians at different platforms, there are so many questions begging for answers. If Buhari is finding it difficult to get honest and competent people within the APC for over 100 days, what does this say about the APC and Buhari? Is Buhari's search for credible and competent people restricted to a particular region or circle? What does this say about Nigerians---if YES or NO? Obviously, we can't have ministers this month as he was yet to even send names to the Senate for screening, so what will be the excuse this time? Does his statement that ministers are "noisemakers" connected to his reluctance? Going by the reasons advanced for the delay in forming his cabinet, is it that Nigerians are mostly incompetent and dishonest or Buhari is incompetent and dishonest about finding them? |
Today is 27th of September and Buhari is yet form his cabinet. He hasn't even sent the names to the NASS for screening. |
swhite22:Why is the registration numbered covered? |
We lack words to describe Buhari and his administration so far. Lies and premeditated perfidy in everything. |
bossto:You are obviously from Nsukka. The good. News is that there is a solution, and very simple too. |
ValerianSteel:What do we stand to gain for preserving snakes and what are we likely going to lose if snakes go extinct? |
johnpalmer774:I agree with you that Saraki has a case to answer and it's obvious. I share the same feelings that he might be removed because I think Nigerians are more interested in the merit of the case than the technical blunders by the CCT. Now here is my fears for APC------- the APC does not have overwhelming majority in the Senate. The Senate is almost equally shared by both APC and PDP. If Saraki is removed, his faction are most likely going to align with PDP. Now what happens if PDP decides in unity, to present a candidate for the Senate presidency? And just to correct you, the Constitution stipulates that 1/3 of the total members of the Senate forms a quorum and not 2/3. But it's only 2/3 of the quorum can reach a decision. You can find it under the composition of the NASS in Chapter 5, section 54 (1) of the 1999 constitution of the FRN as amended. |
NairaMode:If you actually read this story, you may have reasons to justify the Army Officer and applaud him for a job well done, especially in not killing the fleeing suspects. Except you are saying that an Army Officer is not supposed to shoot ANY civilian under any circumstance. How innocent are they, that they move about at midnight under the influence of marijuana? How innocent are they, that they resort to running away upon sighting security personnel instead of explaining themselves? Anytime you are stopped by any officer of the law enforcement agencies, it is part of your duties to answer reasonable questions to ascertain your identity and mission. Imagine a situation where you were being flagged down on the road by army officers and you decide to speed away---------you can only be lucky to be alive because you have triggered suspicion. Security is all encompassing and a patriotic Army Officer will not allow a fleeing kidnapper, rapist, bunkerer etc to escape and then go back to call the police. |
madridguy:It is regulatory requirement in journalism that names of victims be protected because of undue stigmatization by the larger society. |
xwolverine:I sincerely think that Saraki has a case to answer. When a lawyer begins to explore legal technicalities instead of focusing on the merits of the charges against his clients, then there is a problem. However, it is also important to note that the CCT has committed some procedural blunders that could vitiate the proceedings. More so, the Appeal Court refused granting Saraki’s stay-of-proceeding request, not for lack of merit, but because there had not been any sitting on the matter. So, I am certain that the Appeal Court will grant further request either for a stay-of-proceeding or Appeal of Judgement. Lastly, contrary to what some people think, whatever be the outcome of this case is dangerous to the Nigerian state. This is because, the NASS is divided into three------the United PDP and two factions of the APC. Now, if a faction of the divided APC decides to join forces with PDP, this then gives the PDP, majority status. I fear that APC may lose the Senate presidency if Saraki is removed, except PDP decides not to contest. |

If you don't know the name of a car you are selling, even when it's conspicuously written on it, how can we believe the rest stories? |
There is something wrong with every public servant. The difference is wether the government wants to indict or ignore you. Every public office holder has done something wrong. |
But there is nowhere in the article where it's proven that they stole the tricycle. It is still in the realm of allegation. |
floragregs:It is still incorrect, except you are modifying Sam's family and not Sam. And that will also mean that Sam's family was aged 4. |
Well deserved for the tout called diego costa. Even Mourinho deserved a ban also for saying football has to be played like that. Mourinho has to know the difference between boxing, Karate, wrestling and football. |
Every successful person must have a story to tell and this is yours. Don't get frustrated because you are destined for greatness. Very soon you will look back at this situation and laugh. Mark my words. |
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Isheri Oshun Police Division, identified as Kenneth, has been redeployed over the killing of a mother of four by a police corporal attached to his station. Kenneth was said to have been queried by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, while the other team members are facing orderly room trial. It was learnt that Owoseni ordered the DPO’s redeployment after the ugly incident that claimed the life of the woman and injured her husband, Sunday Godwin, who is still lying critically ill at the University of Lagos Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, Mushin. The corporal identified as Aremu, who shot Mrs Comfort Godwin, the wife of tricycle operator at Isheri Oshun area of the state, had been charged for murder at Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court and remanded in prison custody. Before his arraignment in court on Friday, Aremu was given a day orderly room trial, found guilty and dismissed from the police.Godwin, a tricycle operator, wife (Comfort) and four children, were returning from a church programme at Jakande area of Lagos while the policemen on a ‘stop-and-search’ duty flagged them down and demanded a N50 bribe. But Godwin, who was not carrying passengers but family members, told them he had no money. Angered by his response, Aremu was said to have corked his gun and opened fire on the family. While Godwin and his wife were short, their four children, among them an 11-year-old baby, escaped death by a whisker. The policemen were said to have jumped inside their patrol van and fled. Passers-by and fellow tricycle operators rushed the couple to the hospital. The woman was said to have died in the process. Speaking on the incident last week, Owoseni said the police would foot Godwin’s medical bill and take care of his children. He also promised that the trigger-happy corporal would be charged for murder while his colleagues would be disciplined. It was learnt that Aremu had, before the incident, taken Monkey Tail (a local gin mixed with Indian hemp). He was probably acting under the influence of alcohol. Sources from the tricycle operators said Godwin’s colleagues would visit him today at the hospital. “He is one of us; we cannot leave him in his moment of need. We are going to the hospital to check him because since he had been rushed there, we have not been given access to him,” one of them said. When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Joe Offor, confirmed that the DPO had been redeployed. He, however, did not say it was in connection with the killing. http://newtelegraphonline.com/dpo-removed-over-killing-of-mother-of-four/ |

olaric:Shouldn't they have called him to find out why he suddenly stopped coming to their parish before going to his office to do something that was capable of sacking him? |
Hidentity:I must thank you for this very timely article because a lot of us share this view. Nairaland was supposed to be a forum for ideas diffusion, General unity and purposeful education. Unfortunately, both Seun and the moderators are dangerously lenient to the antics of ethnic bigots and uneducated religious disciples, who are flagrantly fanning the embers of War and division using Nairaland. I have personally reported a few of these dangerous statements but I kept seeing the same people regurgitating same almost daily. Sometimes, issues that needed to be discussed intelligently and exhaustively, end up being ridiculed with extremely repulsive and infantile comments. I understand that some members, after being banned, registers again using another email address instead of serving the ban with remorse and repentance. I would like to suggest, that registration should contain the phone number and in the event of gross misconduct, such member should be banned using the phone number provided. Such that the particular phone number can't be accepted for registration again. It is either Nairaland is not concerned about the quality of the forum or those saddled with the responsibility to moderate the forum needed to do more. This forum needs meticulous moderation because I understand we have all kinds of persons including Nursery school pupils or those who think like one. |
Very apt and concise. |
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is currently investigating the alleged human rights violation of a lady motorist and her family by a convoy of the Nasarawa State Governor, Alhaji Tanko Almakura, along Lafia-Akwanga road.
