Romance › Re: Are You That Type Of Woman...? A Must Read For Ladies/women by histemple:
Women are great assets and any man who finds a true woman has every reason to thank God. I have heard people continually advicing us not to wait for a perfect man and same advice is valid for the men also. The truth is no right thinking person is expecting a perfect human being to exist anywhere but some qualities are essential. For me, there is no limit to what a confident and ambitious person can achieve irrespective of where he/she is presently. .
The beauty of a woman is in the eyes of the beholder but they forgot to remind us that the "beholder" can equally behold another beauty as the beautiful ones are everywhere. So, there must be another measuring stick to differentiate. For me, the real beauty of a woman is in the strength of her character and self worth. I have always maintained in all my seminars that for married women, a time comes when your beauty begins to diminish in the eyes of your husband. He will have to be reminded that his wife is beautiful because he sees you everyday. This could be truly a natural reality such as fatness or any other criteria or simply because he has seen you in and out. Those are times when traits such as your level of understanding or lack of it could determine the marriage. Some men are sometimes irrational and illogical and those are the unfortunate exceptions but to a large extent any woman who genuinely love, support the family, shows unwavering commitment to building a home, and understands her husband is most likely going to be adored and honoured. Beauty for a woman should be seen as added advantage because beauty alone can't stand the test of time. Most times the beauty on its own is a great challenge. On the average a beautiful lady attracts the attention of every Dick and Harry and all claim to "love" you even without knowing more than your name or phone number thereby making it difficult to concentrate. I engaged some colleagues in a discussion recently and a particular handsome guy who was the least intelligent kept telling me "you are too beautiful". While I appreciated the compliment, I must quickly point out that most of such mischievous remarks creates a diversionary illusion that can becloud a lady's reasoning if you are not very focused.
Ladies, let's strive towards building ourself within and be purposefully confident. The good qualities and values are more likely to take us places than just our beauty.
Education › Re: Why Nigerian Graduates Are Unemployable by histemple:
This points are absolutely true. No doubt. But while we ascribe the avoidable but pitiable unemployment rate in our nation to these excuses, It is my informed submission that all graduates are employable but the conundrum is identifying where such graduates are needed to fully maximize their latent potential. And based on this premise, it is a problem of lack of sufficient employment opportunities. Even in the best universities in the world, we still have dunce there and some of their graduates are also incompetent but that is not to totally exonerate some of our schools from the blame. Our curriculum needs to be reviewed because sometimes they load our brains with courses that are not related or useful to our course of study.
The university/college only guides an individual to achieve a well defined controlled behaviour called discipline but how far you develop yourself is entirely your own volition depending on how voracious you are for more information and knowledge. Thanks to the Internet.
Our government should create jobs for everyone because I insist that all graduates are employable in some areas across all the sectors of the economy including agriculture. Government should stop hiding under the cloak of unemployability to justify the lack of job creation.
Most importantly, while everyone can't be entrepreneurs, our graduates should consider self employment. Have you ever wondered why there is no employee in the list of the world's richest persons?

I have high regard for Jega. During the Nigerian 2015 general elections, he displayed the highest level of maturity and that endeared him to the whole world. His deafening silence reduced the aggressor (Orubebe) to zero level and his calculated response was significant to the smooth transition of power in Nigeria. I wish most of us can learn from him and be careful with our responses to issues raised in any area of life especially in a forum like nairaland.

Just like our football, the Brazilian national team has dropped significantly. However, when that statement was made, Brazil was consistently the best footballing nation according to Fifa ranking. Nevertheless, it is still a big honour for any African to be described as capable of walking straight to the Brazilian national team even with that unfortunate thrashing. If there is, even you know too well that it can't be Mikel.

iRepNaija1:
If you honestly believe that rape, male chauvinism, domestic violence and etc don't happen in Nigeria, then I honestly don't know what to say to you. I really don't. I've done plenty of "research." I don't open my mouth unless I know what I'm talking about.

Why do you need to call a child born out of wedlock a bastard? Why? I really don't understand the rational.

I'm going to refer to America instead of the west because the west is made up of many different countries. You asked why should Nigerians care about America and emulate its culture? I don't know. It's not my question to answer. But no one told Nigerians to do so. Blaming America because some Nigerians decided to watch American movies, take on American mindsets and etc. is not America's fault. Was it forced on Nigeria? Maybe some Nigerians are so ready to adopt American customs and culture because they implicitly know something is missing in their own culture or they find Nigerian culture inferior. Maybe not. Again, I don't know.

America isn't going to adopt Nigeria's idea of a happy home, our values, and our customs because they don't care and they believe their ways are superior to Nigeria's. Simple.
I must confess that you were more objective and concise this time and your issue-based focus is highly appreciated. Let me quickly correct your oversight when you quoted me to have meant that vices such as rape, male chauvinism, domestic violence etc doesn't happen in Africa and Nigeria. The phrase "not peculiar " means that it isn't a problem that happens only in Africa or Nigeria alone. I must admit that it happens here just like any other continent. You also mentioned that Americans won't emulate our culture because they don't find it worthy and rightly so but my question is why should we emulate theirs? What is good about their culture? A land where a child can arrest his father for correcting him? Majority of our immoral and negative behaviours were their import ranging from pornography, homosexuality, indecent dressing etc. I feel sorry whenever I see a Nigerian trying in futility to bite their tongue while trying to speak in some foreign accent even to a fellow Nigerian. That is part of the madness and that is the inferiority complex. Everyone's culture is superior to any other in their assessment and remains so for as long as you are willing to protect it. Secondly, my definition of bastards as children born out of wedlock was drawn from the Oxford dictionary that was published in the USA. I will be extremely grateful if you can teach me the latest meaning of the word bastard since my definition is archaic as you said. You were spot on when you said Americans never compelled us to adopt there lifestyles but must we continue to disregard our rich heritage just to join the immoral bandwagon? The only area we need to fix and urgently too is the quality of governance but America shouldn't interfere especially uninvited. Lest I forget, America likes to foist their ideas into others through a cult - like initiation either directly or indirect. Why will their president be inviting our president? What is he going to tell him and who sought his opinion? Why can't Obama come to meet with Buhari in Nigeria? I heard America pledged support to help us fight Boko Haram and I ask why now? Did they not refuse to sell weapons to us at a time the insurgency could have been easily flushed out? Is it not the same America that ran away from ground zero in Afghanistan? There isn't a single policy that shows they are genuinely interested in the development of Africa.
My honest submission is that we should fix our continent and protect our culture.
Family › Re: Words Of Advice From A Mother To Her Daughter by histemple:
iRepNaija1:
Do you even live in the West? You don't even know what you're talking about. First, children who are born out of wedlock are not bastards, they're children. Stop using such a degrading and archaic term. It's embarrassing. Second, I'm tired of people taking every opportunity to bash the west, a place some of them have never even stepped foot in, to hype up Nigeria and make themselves feel better about their standing in the world. Here's the truth about us: no one in the west cares about our "African values" (or if we're trying to live the European lifestyle) when our government can't even provide basic electricity, clean water, smooth roads, healthcare/medicine to its people. They don't care about our "values" when our politicians openly steal while we punish the average Nigerian with jungle justice for stealing an apple. They don't care if a wife can make an enviable home when those same women are suffering from rape, domestic violence, and misogyny/sexism. They don't care if a man is the head of the household when a considerable number of them can't read, can't find employment, can't feed themselves or their families. They don't care that our GDP is the highest in Africa when more than half of our people live below the poverty line. They laugh at us. They think we're backwards and all they see is poor black people living in a poor country who are very eager to come to the west. Enough of this high horse b.s. talk because if we had such "superior values," we should have fixed our country by now.
You raised very salient points here but in very harsh and insulting way. However, let me respond to your points and not your person. As a woman, I understand perfectly what your frustrations are and genuinely so. Majority of your disappointment has to do with the quality of governance and that is a digression from the discuss here. But even in governance, we have women in good numbers that are part of all the arms of government. What are they doing to help? The only point you raised that is related to this topic is the fact that the west don't care about Africa and I think you may be partially right. But why should we care about the west to the point of emulating everything they do? I am vastly travelled and I can confidently tell you that it is better to build my country than being a slave to immoral cultures. I am even shocked to hear you say children born out of wedlock are not bastards. So what then is your definition of a bastard or the word doesn't exist? That is part of the damage the western culture has done to some of us. Obviously, if you delete that word from the dictionary, then the whole essence of marriage is gone as prevalent in the west and the same mentality is fast destroying our once enviable marriage institution. Hitherto we listened to their music but we have decided to build our music industry and Nigerians are listening more to naija music and enjoying it than their crap. Who said Tiwa savage, yemi Alade, Sheyi Shey, are not better than Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez etc? We should understand that no culture is superior to the other. It is heartbreaking that we are trying so hard to destroy our values through westernization of our beautiful continent. Why are we not selling our valuable culture to the west instead of emulating their immoral lifestyles such as gay practices. Why can't they learn how to build a happy home from us instead of us learning how to break up and file for divorce from them? Our ladies move unclad because they watched some devilish musicians with the outfit. Even our men now move about advertising their buttocks for potential gay practitioners in the disgusting style called "Sagging". Other vices such as rape, male chauvinism, domestic violence etc are not peculiar to Africa or Nigeria. Do your research. Just my candid opinion, no offence intended.

Christianity Etc › Re: What You Should Know About Karma And It Laws by histemple:
The totality of this life is very complicating. In fact, life is a mystery. While all these laws are presumed to be correct, their correctness is relatively subjective and can be argued. Let's take Karma for instance which is also known as cause and effect. It is undeniably evident that good people suffer and bad things happen to good people and the reverse is also a reality. So, how is Karma justified here? If Karma was entirely correct, all our political thieves could have perished but we have not only seen them flourish but bequeath same to their children from generation to generation.
Sometimes, people hide under the law of delayed gratification to console themselves in the event of the failure of these laws.
As Christians, the law of Karma is conflicting with the teaching of Jesus about the passing away of old things upon your genuine repentance, submission and accepting Jesus as your personal Lord and saviour.

Today Ikpeba is remembered as prince of Monaco. Okocha is remembered for his skills and especially for promoting a club to premier league as a captain with unbelievable skills. Kanu is remembered for his brilliance in atlanta 96 and his exploits in Europe. Amokachi was nicknamed the bull because of his impact and great strength and was the first player to score in the current champions league.
Because of their exploits, all these players were called pet names in admiration.
Now, kindly tell me what Mikel will be remembered for? Secondly, I am yet to hear that sweet pet name given to mikel in appreciation for his contribution. Mikel is a big name in Nigerian football today and that is a minus for the country. Just analyze Nigerian football from inception and give me the name of that midfielder wearing that no.10 jersey that was not respected by the whole world during their time up till Okocha.
Mikel has achieved so much and it is a glaring fact but hey! You don't know either myself or any member of my family and remember that everyone can't be a footballer. I wish mikel good luck but let's be objective.

I support good football and I like to be happy watching good players and teams. I have clubs, players and coaches I admire all over the continents. It's better to have a great impact on the game than being decorated as a mediocre player in a good club. Okocha didn't win any champions or premier league but he left an indelible mark on the round leather game. Pele recently announced that Okocha was the only African player that could walk straight to the Brazilian national team. That is the unforgettable recognition of an impact player.
Family › Re: Words Of Advice From A Mother To Her Daughter by histemple:
Absolutely on point. One of the major causes of our problems is the misplaced aggression to emulate the western culture. The nascent gender equality drive has subjected us to unfounded mendacious sentiments and has virtually made almost all our women to become feminists. And most of us are trying so hard to live an European life in Africa.
Every society operate based on their value system and cultural inclination. For instance, western countries encourage single mothers and so they are indirectly increasing the number of bastards and marriage breakups. In Africa, a woman is more dignified and respected by the society based on her ability to build an enviable home. In Africa, a respectful woman has more power and influence over a man and can get anything she wants.
To justify my point, a true african woman will appreciate this advice from a mother but it's a complete trash to a Western lady.
My fellow women, we must be truly African to live peacefully and happily in Africa as trying to be Western in Africa will result to increased frustration.
Woman submit and respect your husband and the Man should love his Wife.
Sports › Re: Individuals In The Presidency Was The Back-bone Of Keshi – Segun Odegbami by histemple:
Keshi's case is a lesson for everyone to know when to leave after being undeservedly lucky. When Super Eagles became African champions in 2013, they were one of the worst teams. There was no cohesion and Nigerians were never relaxed until the last whistle except the second half of the game against Mali. To prove Keshi's managerial and tactical deficiencies, we don't have an established first 11. Only Enyeama was a sure start in every game. The team lacked playing pattern owing to continued experimentation of players and formation. Furthermore, the mischievous inclusion of mediocre players like Chigozie Agbim and his likes stimulated our curiosity. Every press conference revealed that Keshi has no tactical depth. Initially we thought he was playing mind game by selective disclosure of information until it was apparent in the games and the recalcitrant coach snubbed calls to recall our best players with the ability to win games.
Nigerians are disappointed having been subjected to nail biting frustrations and so, it will be a difficult guess if Sunday Oliseh will be given the needed support to prove himself but I anticipate a better SE under Oliseh based on his tactical knowledge of the game.

I don't understand why these BH detainees can't be tried with a view to either acquit them or summarily execute them instead of infiltrating other regions with the unwanted elements thereby posing serious security risk for the people at a time the country is struggling to end the terrorism.
I have always advocated a special court for Boko Haram suspects. Terrorism is a serious offence and should be treated with corresponding seriousness spontaneously. The only reason we needed a court is to avoid executing innocent Nigerians mistaken to be Boko Haram apostles. It is easier for some of us to hastily castigate the protesting IGBOS based on ethnic and primordial inclination but we must try to justify their aggression on the scale of national security. It is easier to fight a BH whose operations are concentrated ONLY in a region than to fight them when they are scattered all over the country. We must unanimously reject the deliberate attempt to indirectly spread the network of BH to any other regions of the country for the interest of the Nigerian state. It's not an ethnic issue because Nigerians are everywhere and any attack in any part of the country will most likely affect almost every tribe and religion.

Anytime I hear people discussing the government's willingness to negotiate with Boko Haram, I can't help but cry for the kind of leadership we have chosen. Initially, these politicians politicized Boko Haram and used security as the focal point of their electioneering.
Today, Boko Haram have grown above their initial sponsors and their attacks are now targeted not only to a particular religion which portrayed them as a religious sect but to everyone living in Nigeria's north.
Now the reason for my crying is WHAT EXACTLY DO BOKO HARAM WANT?
How can you discuss what you don't understand? We must understand that BH are not militants, pressure group or insurgents as we refer to them. They are terrorist group and terrorists don't negotiate. I doubt seriously if any representative of BH will come out to discuss any negotiations. Considering the level of destruction of lives and properties, anybody who represents BH openly will attract the wrath of all their victims to his/her entire family. The only option we have is to intensify our military operations and crush them.

I understand your plight perfectly because I have been in same situation and I sought informed opinions on the way forward. Some of the things I learnt include but no limited to the following;

"NO" is not a bad answer and those who don't use it are never successful.

You can't satisfy everyone's need no matter how you try to.

If you run into financial crises, 99.9 percent of the people you are helping will move on immediately and less than a percent will ever call you again.

All of them will not die if you stop helping them today and you don't owe anyone an explanation on why you stopped.

Having said all that, I must admit that it is not so easy to stop but remember that some evils are necessary. E.g. It is a necessary evil that some people must die for others to live. So, anyway you look at it, you must stop trying NOT TO offend all beggers.
My advice is tell your very close relatives that you have some challenges and ask them to bear with you. Most of you in the US are very broke and survive mainly on credits, so don't allow them to add to your problems
