Earthquake in Africa? shocked

My prayers are with Morocco in this trying times
Earthquake has been reported in Africa in a timeline that spans centuries. The greatest one that had the most casualties ever recorded in Africa also took place in the North African region. Residents of Saki in Oyo State has been talking about feeling the earth swaying and buildings vibrating since about a decade now even though Nigeria is far away from an active fault line.

Oga stop comparing Nnewi with your Ibadam axis.
A piece of land in Nnewi village part is N15m.
Village part o. I'm not talking about central business district areas.
Nnewi no be your mate. cool
The cost of land depends on so many factors, something in abundance will be cheap cos whoever want to buy will have many choices and thus price will not be too exorbitant. Nnewi's total landmass is like 1/200 of the total landmass of Ibadan alone. Oyo State sef is roughly the same size as the five SE states. Oyo State population as at 2006 was 5 million naira while SE states had total population of around 15 million.

You sef think am, 5 million people in Oyo State to a land of around 28,000 kilometer squares compared to 15 million people to the same 28,000 kilometer squares land in the SE, where do you think land will be expensive most between both places??

It's another reason why we Yorubas don't really fancy storey buildings. A small landmass means the people will tend towards storey buildings as observed in Onitsha while a places like Ogbomoso with average plot of land going for averagely 500k in places less than 7km from the city centre will rather build a bungalow cos land is in excess.

NB: Land is very expensive in Lagos cos of the same reason.

Politics / Re: With Dangote Refinery Is There A Chance For Petrol To Go Below #100?? by Horllamideh(m): 5:08am On May 22, 2023
Cost to refine gasoline varies between $.40 and $.70 per gallon, depending on whether summer or winter formulas are being used.
That's #300 and #525 per gallon according to today's exchange rate (black market). A gallon contains a little less than 4 lires of petrol. So a litre of petrol shouldn't sell for more than #200 after factoring various costs but the price will vary from state to state cos fuel subsidy is one of the reason for the price uniformity currently.
Education / Re: Difference Between "Cities And Towns" Especially Here In Nigeria by Horllamideh(m): 1:35pm On May 20, 2023
There's no clear difference as the line of distinction varies from countries to countries. In Japan, for example, a place having more than 50,000 inhabitants is termed a city. Going by this logic, we will have more than 1000 cities in Nigeria.

Some sources believed a town to be geographical location that has its own governing body or government area. So I guess places with more than a LGA can call itself a city then. Offa in kwara state has a single LGA and thus is a town while Ogbomoso with 5 LGAs is a city within that context.

C130s cargo planes have no seats which means that Nigeria plans to airlift its citizens on a 6-hour journey sitting on the bare floor while there are free Boeing 747s in the Air Peace fleet to comfortably ferry them home safely.

The Nigerian Government prefers to transport its citizens as cargo not as decent humans.

All these just to avoid having it on record that an Igbo man saved the day again.

This is a new low.

That C-130 plane can carry up to 500 people assuming they all weigh 100kg each meaning the plane can carry more if each of the people are weighed and being recorded and totalled during the boarding process..... How many people can an airpeace plane carry again (200 at most)

But Modakeke stems from Oyo Empire and most of the majority of the towns like that have Islam dominated, apart from a town like Ogbomosho which has Christian religion as dominant religion

Funny fact about Ogbomoso is that the first Christian convert who happened to be an indigene was a babalawo and his entire family in the year 1870, less than 200 years after more than 60% of Ogbomoso indigenes are Christians despite the fact that Islam has older presence in the ancient town.

Politics / Re: 83% Of Presidential And NASS Results Has Be Uploaded On INEC's Portal by Horllamideh(m): 7:38am On Mar 02, 2023
AbdulMagaji:
Look at you

Those result sheets where supposed to be uploaded immediately and directly from the various poling units after counting.

Before the INEC chairman announces a result for each state, he is supposed to verify the figures uploaded with the manual submitted.

That's why over a 100 billion were allocated to him for the job.

His job is done once in 4 years!

If he wasn't fit to do the job, he should have opted out.

It's not by force to be INEC chairman.

Look at how our leaders are disgracing us both home and abroad. Nigerians are just watching helplessly.

Just Common counting of units and result tally, Nigeria couldn't get it right.

What task is there in adding up the results uploaded and verifying it with what each state chairman submitted?

There are Nigerian lecturers, professors who are far older than the INEC chairman in universities. This lecturers teaches, marks and grades over 1000 students on a particular course. They record this results and also upload them online while they are been paid peanuts.

Now tell me why INEC with all the hundreds of billions with the only task of a credible presidential election could not tally up the figures uploaded by each LGA in Nigeria.

Greatest yahoo yahoo of all time in Nigeria history

Your first point is a bit untrue. BVAS checking and verification is solely done at/from the Ward level by Supervising Presiding Officers. Once BVAS information has been certified okay from Ward level, every collation is deemed correct. So there's no need for the INEC chairman to wait for BVAS uploading of results to be completed before doing his job.

I have the same discussion with a friend this morning, I entered house last night around 9p.m and I could only get 1k. Some slept hungry last night cos they couldn't see cash, when people are hungry they lose all decorum and peace is threatened. The whole thing looks kinda bleak jare.

sure I do. It will gradually pick up. The motive of the policy, which is to tackle money politicking during elections is the reason and the cause of this big upset. With time, things will gradually go back to normal.

Patience is a luxury we don't have here in our society, a day is more than enough for a society to collapse. As I am talking to you, I don't have a single cash on me and it's not like I am broke. I drove more than 5 miles seeking cash from POS, none along my route has. We will need to cook at home cos virtually all the market women in my side don't have bank account. How are we going to survive, we can't force those Mama to open a bank account nah. I was begging people to give me cash so I will transfer to them, they were giving stories upon stories. I don't blame them cos they don't want to be in my situation too (cashless without cash to sort out some minute transactions for primary needs)

This will sound controversial.... but this burning, looting, and destroying of properties doesn't help us as a people. Yes, I am hungry as well. The transfer issue has caused me plenty of wahala this morning. People don't want to believe the receipts from bank apps anymore, but it's the only means of getting transactions done. I had to wait for more than an hour for debit alerts on my phone and show it before traders believed my transfers. But still, Mayhem won't solve anything.
Let's be patient and channel this frustration on the 25th by voting people who will start the journey to our new dawn.
People please stay safe.
What happens after 25th then??, money scarcity suddenly disappears, transfer will start going seamlessly, no more queues??

You are not seeing the big picture of what's brewing oo

Politics / Re: INEC To Test BVAs With Mock Accreditation Exercise by Horllamideh(m): 3:01pm On Jan 28, 2023
Brendaniel:
After finding out the method used for the judgement on the election tribunal that gave victory to Oyetola over Adeleke, I would say it is a recipe for disaster, the method applied was cancelling all the votes of a polling unit because of over voting in that particular polling unit.

The questions I ask are:

1. As it happened that there were over voting in various polling units in the Osun election, what if each opposition connives to perpetrate over voting in polling units in each opposition strong holds?

2. What then is the use for BVAS in over voting if after the BVAS is able to identify the number of over votes only to end up cancelling all votes(valid) and over votes(invalid) ? That is like throwing away a baby with the bath water.

3. If there is an election tribunal like this and a rerun takes place, what if the same over voting keeps occurring over and over, would they keep repeating the election tribunal process and back to rerun again?

In my opinion, the law is just an error or a purposeful scheme to rig an election using what I call reverse voting
Just simply tamper with your opposition strong holds and invalidate their votes, So we might be having a case where a carefully selected and protected minority will determine winners of an election instead of the majority carrying the votes.

Implications:

1. It will make elections become very dirty because politicians will be all about scheming to invalidate votes in opposition strong holds.

2. It will make the voters lose confidence in the electoral process, because a voter will not be sure if his vote will be invalidated or not by someone else scheming with a politician in his/her polling unit.

3. It will make voters wear out easily and may cause voter apathy when you have reruns after stressful elections, thereby reducing voters turn-up in reruns.

4. It may not reflect the true will of the people and also reduce the total number of voter participation, just like the Osun election tribunal, the total number of votes cast for both PDP and APC after the cancellation doesn't reflect the true will of the people to declare Oyetola the winner.

5. Elections will cost more because of Tribunal, reruns and time wasting.

6. It could lead to anarchy and total chaos, like in some volatile states in the north where they riot over political results, just imagine after election and INEC says they have cancelled over 20,000 polling units across the north which were all stronghold of a particular candidate, because of over voting of less than 2000 voters, imagine what will happen in the aftermath of such news.

Solution:

In situations of over voting, Why not just deduct the invalid votes(over votes) and count the rest, the BVAS already identifies the number of over votes(invalid votes), doing so, INEC will avoid a lot of election tribunals, scheming by politicians, reduce cost of doing reruns, make more accurate results, increase voters confidence, reduce time wasting, reflect the true will of the people and avoid anarchy.

You are wrong on multiple fronts, over-voting is done in areas where the favoured candidate is popular. So anyone that wins in a situation of 'over-voting' is not the victim but a perpetrator whether directly or indirectly.
