PhonesRe: Fastest Dial-up Connection And Price Comparison by Hunter(m): 1:08am On Mar 14, 2006
I don't like that site perticularly it doesn't seem to give accurate readings (eg what I average to them is routinely 100kb/s slower than everyone else)

Lately though my connection has been slow (running at about 3mpbs rather than the 8 or so I usually get, It went down the other night for about an hour and has been much slower since so I suspect that they may not be running at fully capacity)
ComputersRe: Microsoft Office 2007 User Interface by Hunter(m): 1:01am On Mar 14, 2006

BusinessRe: PHCN (NEPA) Wants To Increase Electricity Tariff by Hunter(m): 10:41am On Mar 12, 2006
how can they offer better services if they can't afford to build any new stuff?
ComputersRe: MIRC And IRC by Hunter(m): 10:41am On Mar 12, 2006
People usually don't get banned for no reason (at least on my network anyway)
Abujaboy it depends on what type of ban it is (xLine or channel ban) and you're more likely to piss off the staff even furthur if you try and use a proxy (get banned on our network and attempt to connect with a proxy = not coming back)
CultureRe: What Languages Do You Speak? by Hunter(m): 12:52pm On Mar 11, 2006

ComputersRe: MIRC And IRC by Hunter(m): 12:49pm On Mar 11, 2006

PoliticsRe: Niger Delta Militants In Pictures by Hunter(m): 9:28am On Mar 10, 2006

Uh the USSR wasn't taken down by those "Talibans" they were brought down by a failing economey.
ComputersRe: Microsoft Office 2007 User Interface by Hunter(m): 9:22am On Mar 10, 2006
if you want to see anything in perticular let me know and i'll see what I can do.

Also worth noting a new beta build is due out next week some time (an email from microsoft came today)

I'll let you guy's know whats different when it comes out asap (microsoft always manages to get good internet speed 600kb/s+, and I'm on holidays for 2 weeks) :-)
ComputersRe: MIRC And IRC by Hunter(m): 9:10pm On Mar 08, 2006
Mirc isn't a tool for hackers, it's just a client to connect to IRC servers.

Many hackers might use it but equally you could say many peadophiles use yahoo chat.

I actually a netmin on an irc server irc.r-type.ca (I manage corellia.r-type.ca) we have a fairly small but strong user base (100+ usually)
You can and join if you want, i'm usually in #r-type
BusinessRe: I Have 1 Million Naira, I Want To Set Up An ISP by Hunter(m): 9:03pm On Mar 08, 2006
Given the low bandwidth into and out of nigeria, I would suggest setting up your ISP as wireless (nigerian phone lines wouldn't be able to reliably transmit xDSL technologies) to reach many people with less expenditure.
Also a cost saving excercise is to setup transparent proxies so not everything has to leave your connection and use the internet (making it faster for users and more cost effective for you)
ComputersRe: Microsoft Office 2007 User Interface by Hunter(m): 9:00pm On Mar 08, 2006
I'm in the beta program for office 2007 (or office 12 previously) and I must say that the interface while different is much-much simpler to use, no more remembering if the option you want is obscured away 6 levels deep in a menu.
ComputersRe: Top 5 Freeware Tools For Cisco Network Administrators by Hunter(m): 8:56pm On Mar 08, 2006
I've always used solarwinds for my cisco work, whats better about this server?

Packet logging is fun to see whats transmitted :-)
FoodRe: Coca-cola Or Pepsi? by Hunter(m): 7:53pm On Mar 08, 2006
They cost the same here (at school we get ripped off $2.70 a bottle)

But I much prefer coke over pepsi, pepsi is too sweet.
BusinessRe: PHCN (NEPA) Wants To Increase Electricity Tariff by Hunter(m): 7:52pm On Mar 08, 2006
Yes but people not paying for electricity is a big problem I can gather (tapping into the powerlines themselves)
BusinessRe: PHCN (NEPA) Wants To Increase Electricity Tariff by Hunter(m): 1:02pm On Mar 08, 2006
Perhaps they are asking for money so they can actually afford to build new installations?

The biggest problem they probably have at the momment is people not actually paying anything wink
ProgrammingRe: Difference Between Visual Basic And Visual Basic .NET by Hunter(m): 12:58pm On Mar 08, 2006
Nothing wrong with VB if you're using it for what it was designed for (rapid development of windows applications)

VB.net is a transition of the old visual basic language to object orientated coding, syntax is mostly the same (it would take most people at max about 2 weeks to transition)
Over all though VB.net is alot more powerful (and easier in regards to DB connections)
CultureRe: What Languages Do You Speak? by Hunter(m): 11:18am On Mar 07, 2006

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Computer Science Students Need Industrial Training Jobs by Hunter(m): 11:12am On Mar 07, 2006
It would probably help people if you said what skill sets they have (eg can they program, network) or what/if they hold industry based certificates (like your MCP's, CCNA's and the rest)
PetsRe: Pitbull Or Rottweiler: Which Is More Dangerous? by Hunter(m): 11:10am On Mar 07, 2006
In my opinion the sale of both should be restricted, I can't understand why people feel it nescercery to own a dog that can rip people's faces to shreds? (how often or not does the dog attack family members)
Car TalkRe: How To Save Money On Fuel (car Owners) by Hunter(m): 10:40am On Mar 06, 2006
I'm not sure how much credence that tip has in nigeria, I'm not sure it gets cold enough to make a differnece (I can't say i've ever really noticed a difference here)
TravelRe: How Is Murtala Mohammed Airport Like, Anything New by Hunter(m): 6:52am On Mar 06, 2006
It's not as bad as its made out to be, before security its a bit chaotic (very) but once you get through customs (seems quite slow sometimes) it's quite a respectable airport.

My only complaints really are the late 60's decor in some parts, uncomfortable seating and shops have been closed by customs.
Car TalkRe: How To Save Money On Fuel (car Owners) by Hunter(m): 11:11pm On Mar 04, 2006

FamilyRe: Nigerians In The Diaspora: Please Im Not Rich! by Hunter(m): 12:37pm On Mar 03, 2006
Just explain to them about buying power, and what your money gets you in canada.

eg.
A meal in Canada might cost $10
In nigeria it might cost a fifth of that (or less)

That way you seem a little less rude, than flat out saying no.
PoliticsRe: President Obasanjo Is Ready To Die For Nigeria by Hunter(m): 12:34pm On Mar 03, 2006
Of course this could be his way of saying "i'm about to retire"
TravelRe: Friend In Ukraine Wants To Study In UK by Hunter(m): 6:11am On Mar 01, 2006
No where in the world is cheap to do medical studies, and I imagine that the UK would be one of the most expensive places in the world to study medicine.
