It will be interesting to see what the actual cause was, given that the 737-200 series of planes is pushing 30 years old there are alot of variables to take into account, in our media it acknoweledges that nigeria has had a trouble aviation history but say that bellview were are good well respected carrier that are considered safe (they've been going since 1993 apparantly)

Belview Plane Missing
There is speculation that a Nigerian airliner carrying 116 people may have crashed or been hijacked since going missing after taking off from Lagos.

"There are two things, either a crash or a hijack. We don't pray for a crash, which is worse," said Patrick Abah, a spokesman for the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.

CNN television reported the Federal Airports Authority had confirmed it had gone down shortly after taking off from the commercial capital

ComputersRe: Laptop Problems: Compaq Presario 1200 and IBM T21 by Hunter(m): 11:46am On Oct 20, 2005
for the compaq it should be a simple solution, look on the keyboard for what they call a function key, check that it is not pressed in, this is usually what causes your num pad to become active on a laptop.

On the other laptop check to see if the actual physical connection between the machine and LCD is severed in anyway, also if possible plug it in to a regular machine via it's back output so you can detirmine if it is an issue with the graphics card or drivers...

Post back here with the results and i'll try and help you the most I can...

TravelRe: Are Taxis in Lagos Now Safe? by Hunter(m): 10:18pm On Oct 18, 2005
I don't see how it's possible to get out of lagos airport without going through the carpark, in general I do not feel safe at the airport.
Omon they usually are pretty persistent, no usually once or twice usually isn't enough, you sometimes have to tell them 5 or so times that you don't want there assistence, however these things maybe because I am white I don't know?
TravelRe: Are Taxis in Lagos Now Safe? by Hunter(m): 1:27pm On Oct 18, 2005
@madam, I'm not a nigerian - I am a white person, and I stand by my comments it is still EXTREMELY intimdating stepping out of the airport. I'm not sure about you but people picking up there loved ones usually don't try and sell strangers stuff at the airport?

ComputersRe: Newly Designed Laptop to Cost $100 (14,000 Naira) or Less by Hunter(m): 10:17pm On Oct 03, 2005
you also have to remember that it isn't the same as a regular laptop, you're getting a pc that can't do as much as a more expensive one...

Also I would be dissapointed if the manufacturing was devirted to make cheap laptops available in the US etc.
PoliticsRe: Pictures On the New 1,000 Naira Note by Hunter(m): 10:14pm On Oct 03, 2005
Thinking about it nigeria needs a completly new money system (work with other nations and make an african currency) then inflation can be halted for the time being smiley
If your looking for something interesting to read, read about what the german's did in the twenties with there money the deustchmark->papiermark->reichmarks.

that why I think nigeria should invest in polymer money, forgery is nearly impossible (how many plastic casters are in nigeria that are skilled enough to defeat the 5 or so checks on polymer bank notes (see through windows, hologram, held up to the light... and it's textured in such a way nothing else feels like it)

PoliticsRe: Pictures On the New 1,000 Naira Note by Hunter(m): 12:45am On Sep 30, 2005
Nigeria really needs to look at alternate banknotes, paper really sucks for such a harsh condition - my naira looks like it's been dropped in a pond and then placed in several layers of mud to dry (and it smells as such as well)
Polymer bank notes all the way cheesy (type of plastic)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_dollar

All plastic, means no worn down money (you'd be hard pressed to damage it without intentionally doing it)
And yes hot-angle our money features two people on it on every note except the $5 (which has the queen of england and parliment house)

Personally I hate USD notes, the green is really difficult to tell apart in a hurry (euro's are ok but a bit flimsey) The worst currency ever used by me would have to be a centeral pacific franc, imagine a note 1 and half times taller than a niara note then slight longer and out of thinner paper, it's that great (in my wallet there was a good three centimetres that stuck out the top)

There is my thoughts for the day tongue

ComputersRe: Share Your Experience with LCD Monitors by Hunter(m): 8:17am On Sep 26, 2005
um you do know that lower the refresh rate the better? A response time referes to how quickly the screen can change colours, this is measure usually from black to black or more accurately as grey to grey (change and change bacK) with a 20ms and higher screen you will see what they call ghosting on the screen where you can see the ghost of an image as it changes, not something you want.

Personally I have a 19" Samsung panel that cost me $650 AUD (N65000 - give or take) (it has a 4ms response time) , it does everything I want and watching action movies like the bourne supremecy work find with no ghosting smiley
