Your freedom of speech stops where mine starts. I have my freedom to air my view without receiving insults.

Okay, General Buhari. Carry on sir!

Trump was banned by Twitter and facebook for breaking the rule and life still go on.

The same way Buhari “banned” Twitter and you all are having a meltdown?

You are either pro free speech or anti. There can’t be no middle ground or double standards!

2. Don't abuse, bully, deliberately insult/provoke, fight, or wish harm to Nairaland members OR THEIR TRIBES.

Thanks for educating me on that. I must admit I never read the rules - not worth my time. However, if that’s the case, I move to expunge and repeal Rule 2 from the Nairaland constitution, since it’s the season of constitution amendments in Nigeria.

Any seconders? grin

Point out a single person i banned here that did nothing wrong, just one, mention the person's ID and i will pull out the post.

You have to be more tolerant. “Insulting” you is not an offence. Come on, man! It’s a free world. Is name calling a ban-able offence on Nairaland? If so, Buhari is a saint compared to the rulers of this forum. Sigh sad

Maybe you need to go back to read his replies to my posts, this is not even the first or second time he does this, every time we have debate here he will pick on my post with insults. I can pull out posts regarding this.

How come i haven't banned everyone that disagrees with me here? How come he is the only person that got banned? Calling me a criminal for not opening door to TV lience people? I have no class for not reporting that i don't streaming live program?

How many of you here have i banned?

Have i ever banned you before but we have disagreed on many issues.

How many of you here have i ever banned? Even when we don't agree on the same issue?

Don't i have the right to give my opinion on issue without receiving insults from someone?

Don't streaming any live program and i don't want to pay for something i don't use but i still get called a criminal.

If we have to wield the big stick every time someone insults us, we all will become tyrants, dictators, authoritarians, autocrats, Buhari, Idi Amin, Hitler, among other names.

Stop banning people for just calling you names. It’s abuse of power and an infringement on their freedom of expression - simple. What you did is not any different from what Buhari did with Twitter. He felt disrespected and banned Twitter, while you also felt disrespected and banned that fellow! Stop it, it’s beneath you and unbecoming of a gatekeeper.

You didn’t set any record straight. If anything you’ve broken the record grin

On a serious note my man. Can you tell us which President that wasn’t helped into power ?
Obj was helped , ya Adua was helped , Jonathan was helped and even Buhari was helped into power. That’s how politics works. You have to befriend everybody so as to win an election and after election you kiss them goodbye.

We can deceive others but we can’t deceive ourselves.

That’s where you got it all wrong, man! Politics is not about betrayal, but rather about trust. If the bolded is your understanding of politics, I can tell you for a fact, that your political career will not last, if you have any. Politics, like most endeavours in life, is all about trust. I will say no more on this matter, lest I cross the line.

I’m not a politician (Pdp or apc or whatever). But I can confidently say Nigeria was safer pre-2015 than now.
The likes of Buhari and his cronies orchestrated bokoharam to frustrate Jonathan and now the same bokoharam has boiled out of control.
Even as at that have you seen where any member of this government condemn the atrocities of bandits/ killer herdsmen or bokoharam?...
Did you hear where they condemned the shooting at lekki toll gate ?
Instead they were busy putting up propaganda here and there.
And yet you’ll come here and be saying “you were betrayed by Jonathan”
Can you even visit you village without thinking about your security?

If you were referring to me (I’m only guessing because you did not quote me), I’m not from a village. And yes, I can visit my home confidently and safely. I’ll be making a trip soon, in case you want to instruct those anarchists and arsonists to lay in waiting. My state is relatively safe and peaceful, we do not burn government institutions and security outfits where I come from. We believe in the power of the ballot, and we are always patient until the next election cycle to elect or change our leaders. We do not call for arms or insurrection when things are not going our way politically. Nor do we threaten secession through killing and destroying. We wait, change, and change the change when necessary. That is the beauty of democracy.

I don’t know where u read the bolder from but anyways I’ll rather have corrupt Jonathan, than deadbeat Buhari ....
If you actually read my statement, you would have seen where I stated that “they are all corrupt”...
Don’t even try to compare Jonathan’s administration to Buharis because you’ll loose this debate..
Buhari has once been a failure when he was a commander in chief and he has been repeating this backwardness since 2015 and yet you talking about Jonathan.... I’m waiting for you to outline the failures of Jonathan that outweighs buharis failure. You can’t even compare ObJ 8yrs to Jonathan’s 6yrs ...

Now I get the gist lol. “They are all failures, but one failure is better than the other”? Yeah, right!

I wasn’t comparing, I only set the records straight about the “Jonathan was betrayed” part of your post. He wasn’t betrayed, he only reaped what he sowed when he betrayed those that helped him into power.

Even inside Buhari house his wife and children will still be tweeting including Lie Muhammad. Somehow I feel Nigerians deserve Buhari as the consequence for betraying Jonathan. Even though they are all corrupt cool

No one betrayed Jonathan. If anything, he was the one that betrayed those that rallied around him when Yar’Adua died and subsequently gave him the ticket for another term to complete their tenure (Yar’Adua/Jonathan’s second term). Legend has it that he promised he would not be seeking another term for himself and he would allow power to return to the North in 2015. However, he reneged on that agreement, claiming there was nothing like zoning in Nigeria’s constitution. That was what made a lot of prominent people to turn their backs on him, including Obasanjo, Kwankwanso, Saraki, Wamako, Amaechi, and their nPDP co-travellers, but he arrogantly claimed they all had no electoral value and he could win without them. That was how we ended up with Buhari, who had thrice contested without success. His final emergence was more of a payback (protest vote) against Jonathan, not a betrayal as you’d want us to believe.

PS: I’m not a Buhari supporter (not anymore) but I was one of those that felt betrayed by Jonathan (who we massively supported against Turai and the cabals in 2010-2011) and I believe that actions must have consequences. Jonathan was no saint, let’s not start reminding ourselves of all the atrocities he committed by himself or through proxy.

Honestly the aspect of dressing has been worrying me since I got here. I see female kids in skimpy dresses all around and I wonder if they don't have parents. One must be very intentional in raising kids here with a lot of prayers.

Lmao cheesy grin cheesy
What has mode of dressing got to do with having parents or otherwise? Do you really expect anyone to dress like a masquerade in this hot weather? Dressing is largely dependent on the climate/weather, not parents or the lack of one. When I remember all the suit and tie I wore in the hot Naija climate and how I used to sweat like Christmas goat those years back, I just couldn’t but laugh so hard grin

Someone just fainted inside NHQ, dehydration ATI stress, sprinkled with failed system.

The best way to go about this passport with less hassle na to enter naija oh..

Because the cost is similar.

Why does one have to pay an agent 150£ after coming with Postal order? Nothing is straight forward smh

Because they want to jump the queue and do it the ‘Naija way’. I waited 10 months and didn’t have to pay an extra dime, neither did I encounter any issue on my appointment date. Was in and out in 90 minutes.

Had my biometrics and data capture done at the Nigeria High Commission today and I was very surprised with how well it all went. Apart from having to queue outside (in the rain), the experience far exceeded my expectations. Spent 30 minutes outside and exactly 1 hour inside. Got there about 8:30am and left at 10. No one was rude to me, maybe because I didn’t need any “assistance” and followed all instructions. Excepting delivery of my shiny green passport by 28th of May, even though they said to expect from 14th of June. All the best to those still awaiting their turn. You will soon receive the invite. My 10 months wait is finally over, just in time for the summer holidays and end of lockdown. Sunny Portugal, here I come! wink

Update:
New passport was delivered by Royal Mail this morning. The journey that started 10 months ago finally ends here smiley

I love driving. I drive in Nigeria. Also, I feel like it would be easier to move around when you have your own private car.

Not necessarily (at the bolded). And your love of driving will come at a very huge cost to you here in the UK, unlike in Nigeria. The cost of buying the car itself is the least of your worries. Try googling ‘driving in the UK’ for basic info, then you can come back here to ask specific questions if you still want to go ahead right now.

Unless you have a family and you need the car to move the kids around or share the ride with your partner, you may be better served maximising the very good public transportation available here, which I hear is the best in the world. Having a car is very expensive, especially if it’s a non-earning asset, but if it’s required for your work, family, etc., by all means, go for it! Otherwise, chill, jump on those trains and buses, learn to also leg it (I hear walking is actually a very good thing - who would have thought?), save a lot of that money, buy your own house first (why not?), before thinking of buying a car - unpopular opinion, I know.

I hear the annual cost of insurance alone will buy you a tear rubber Lexusgs430 grin. Add to that the prohibitive cost of fuel, MOT, road tax, etc., and if you are lucky enough to live in Greater London, God help you with Sadiq’s ULEZ and other related charges, congestion charge, etc., cost of a provisional licence, theory test, driving lessons, practical test, full licence, etc. Read up and let us know if you still want to buy a car now.

By the way, welcome to the abroad wink

I just moved to the UK last month, London specifically. I would like to buy a car soon so it would be nice if someone can share their experience about buying a car, obtaining drivers license and generally, driving in the UK.

Thanks
If you don’t mind, why do you think you need a car just after arriving? Is there a compelling need or do you just want to own a car?

Let’s stop hopping and giving excuses, let’s start doing something to change it no matter how little.
At our very little level let’s condemn what is wrong and practically do what is right .

The UK is corrupt true but they still look after themselves, keep the stolen money within their system , invest in their system and support what is right. Nigerian is corrupt and wicked no matter how we look at it.

Very very few Nigerians are corrupt but majority give excuses.

This here, is a perfect example of oxymoron. “Let’s stop giving excuses for corruption in Nigeria, but let’s excuse the corruption in the UK because they look after themselves and keep the stolen money within their system, blah blah blah”.

Wehdon sir!
