lyricalz:No one in Igbo land eat Banga soup or whatever you lots call it. We eat Ofe akwu. They are not same. Stop patronizing yourselves. No well raised Igbo man will eat Banga and like it, let alone mistake it for Ofe akwu. No offense. |
jimyjames:You are obviously being unnecessarily dense. There is no link between Banga and Ofe akwu. Nothing whatsoever. If you are Igbo, you would know this. As an Igbo, you can never eat Banga and like it. The taste is off. No where in SE is that soup prepared or sold. Not even in Enuani Delta. Our people know good soups when we eat one, and the only non Igbo soup that passes the taste test in Igbo land is Afang and Edikaikong. They are the only non Igbo soups a typical Igbo man born and raised in Igbo land can appreciate. Your continued insistence on Ofe akwu and Banga being same is annoying and provocative to me as an Igbo man. Stop it already, its not funny. |
PHijo:Which document? How does serving as witness and interpreters to British annexation of Igweocha give you the title of owners of PH. The Willink report done by the British noted clearly that PH is an Igbo city. This is because the owners , the Ikwerres were an Igbo clan in this era. The PH remains an Igbo city as far as the senseless Ikwerres comeback to their senses. But if they remain in their stupidity, Ndiigbo will gladly let you Ijaws deal with them and PH as you wish, while we fence them off at the Obigbo boundary. Its not like PH is a first world city. Its a third world city and we already have lots of it's kind in Igboland and would even build more in Republic of Igbo land. |
Is there even any official data to support the claim that Ijaw is the highest oil producing ethnicity in Nigeria? Because this narrative has been so repeated by Ijaws for so long that everyone is accepting it without asking for proof. Itsekiri I learnt has the highest onshore oil wells in Delta state. The upland Rivers state have the highest onshore oil wells in Rivers state with ONELGA and Oyigbo having the highest share. So where exactly are these Ijaw oil wells we hear about every day? SE has more Natural Gas reserve than Ijawland, with IMO and Anambra having huge reserves of it and Abia not being being far behind. Already a Natural gas plant is up in Ohaji/Egbema Imo and produces more Gas than any in Ijaw land. We all know that Natural gas and not crude oil is the future, with the world turning to green energy sources. However, is there any proof of Ijaw being the highest oil producing ethnicity in Nigeria. Forget the offshore oil wells, if Nigeria divides, Ijaw land by Virtue of its small landmass will not be able to lay claim to those continental oil wells out in Atlantic ocean that Nigeria currently lay claim to due to it's relatively land mass to other countries around. If Nigeria divides, the likes of Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Gabon, etc will argue for those oil fields by virtue of their superior land mass. |
Midas01:Don't be stupid. White people don't eat Banga soup or Nigerian soups, so how can they know the most appetizing of them all? The most appetizing Nigerian soups are known by Nigerians and they cut cross regional lines, unlike Banga that is restricted to the lands of people who invented it. They generally accepted most delicious soups in Nigeria as confirmed by their general acceptance by all Nigerian groups are as follows: 1. Egusi 2. Ogbono 3. Afang/Edikaikong If your Banga or knockout or whatever you call it is delicious, other Nigerian groups will borrow and start cooking and eating it as well. No offense but that's the truth. |
BKayy:You shouldn't. If the tables were turned, they wouldn't appreciate yours. Ndiigbo have to learn to be ruthless in this country. |
BKayy:So you know this and you are still saying Ofe akwu is Banga soup? ![]() |
BKayy:Nnaa this your argument is becoming annoying. Almost all African ethnic group from Cameroon, Ghana,Togo, Mali, etc, all the palm oil belt, have a local soup they cook with palm fruit extract. Are you now you now saying they are all Banga soup? Listen, what makes Banga to be Banga is the vegetables, spices ,etc they use to prepare it. It is not same as Ofe akwu because our spices and vegetable differ and those are what makes Ofe akwu, ofe akwu. The Nchawu, the local garnishing, etc. Saying that Ofe akwu and Banga are same is like saying jollof rice and fried rice are same because they are both prepared with rice. It doesn't make sense. |
BKayy:Nah. Banga is very different from Ofe akwu in ingredients and preparation. The only thing they have in common is palm fruit juice. Ofe akwu is eaten with rice. Banga is eaten with Starch or something. No one in Igbo land eats Banga. Its a soup limited to the Edo and Edoids(Isoko, Urhobo). I don't think anyone else outside that zone fancies the soup. |
onyenatruchi:See better soup. Chai! |
adadike:Ofe akwu is not same as Banga biko. The only thing they have in common is the palm oil sauce. The preparation method, the ingredients all vary dramatically. |
I have never seen or eaten Banga. Only hear of it or see it online. I know its only eaten in Delta South, Delta Central and Edo state. Ofe Nsala, a typical Igbo soup is the main soup in Enuani Delta. As an Igbo the only non Igbo soup I can eat is those from Akwa Cross, Afang and Edikaikong. I don't understand the criteria that made a regionally limited soup like Banga the number one soup in Nigeria. It doesn't make sense, and therefore the report is a suspicious one. List of popular and generally accepted as delicious Nigerian soups. 1. Eguisi 2. Ogbono 3. Afang/Edikaikong. Every other soup is limited to the tribe or region that owns it. |
PHijo:Lol! This is a very weak rebuttal. Wiwa lamented painfully about Ijaw nepotism. The Ikwerres and other Igboids did as well. Ijaw nepotism was so bad that the likes of Obi Wali swallowed their pride and had to return back to Ndiigbo, to Zik in particular, seeking for escape from Ijaw crippling nepotism. Wiwa was incensed too, so much that he was going to Awo and North seeking for separation of Ogoni from Ijaws. You guys were so terrible. It wasn't a child play. And this was only 2yrs post civil war o! That's why I always laugh when I hear of the Babelian republic of Niger Delta. |
Gidigidi, you have misrepresented Ndiigbo here. You don't know an Agbor man from Edoid Ozanogogo by the surnames. When two ethnic groups live side by side with each other, they seem to exchange names inter border which are usually caused by intermarriage. An Agbor man that married an Edo woman would have some of his children bearing Edo names, these Edo first names in two generations becomes surnames. We have same issue with some Nsukka people bearing Igala names and some Ezza/Izzi people bearing Idoma names. Do you know that Prof Pat Utomi surname is Edoid? Utomi is Igbonization of the Edo name Utomwem. Would you now say Utomi is not an Igbo man? Nope! These things are a lot more complex than you think. |
OP. Good thread. I agree with you 100%. I would choose the North over Yorubas and Southern minorities if I must choose one of the three. But I would rather we stay alone. I enjoyed your exchanges, though I'm afraid your thread would be deleted by the Yoruba controllers of this place. But I beseech you to try and preach this message on this thread more using all social media platforms you have . |
Okpotokpo:Don't be naive. He is a typical Ijaw man. Most of them are on the average rabidly Igbophobic. Don't stay in your shop in Lapido, Main Market, Alaba and co and think you know any thing about the average Ijaw man. Many of you are living in a bubble that if not reoriented might terminate Ndiigbo. Enter moto and go to Yenegoa or ask your Igbo brothers there the attitude of an Ijaw towards anything Igbo. Better still you can use your Facebook and join Ijaw forums there. Type "Igbo" in the search button there and see for yourself what those lots think about you and your people. You guys( IPOB and MNK) must stop this your stupid romance with minorities. It's nauseating and embarrassing especially when it's built on blissful yet dangerous ignorance of non existing brotherhood with those Igbophobic groups. And while at it, leave the Akwa Cross alone too. They are not as bad as Ijaws, but they are not too far. Focus on Alaigbo. Work on our unity, leverage on our shared bonds, take the political route, have a long term but insidious plan. Stick to it judiciously and we will get to where we want to be. |
"With the war ended, and as a Commissioner in Rivers State, I soon found that the Rivers State for which I had fought did not end my nightmare. In the first place, oil money from Ogoni country (as well as Ijaw country) was being carted away to Lagos, leaving the Ogoni illiterate and backward. This is anti-federalism. Worse still, the Ijaws were taking their frustrations out on the non-Ijaws of the State. For the Ijaws along number more than the eight other ethnic groups in Rivers State put together. Though historically disunited, the Ijaws find unity when it comes to lording it over the non-Ijaws. The Ijaws will want to perpetuate this. Today, there is not even a Commission from my Local Government Area in the Rivers State Cabinet such as it is. My dilemma as an Ogoni is not about to end. Lost in this dreadful nightmare, I went in 1971 to see Chief Awolowo at the Federal Ministry of Finance. There was nothing I told the sage that he was not aware of. He showed me his writings on the issue and bade me seek the mid-Southern State he had proposed in 1966. Thus was the quest for a Port Harcourt State begun. In 1974. When we started, there was no shortage of opponents. To the Ijaws, I became a traitor. [...] " ~Saro Wiwa |
PHijo:Liar! Pants on fire. Let me post what Saro Wiwa had to say about how you Ijaws ran old Rivers that led to the agitation for PH state just 2yrs into Ijaw rule. ![]() |
Omuaro38: See fatality. As an Igbo, I don't blame these minorities feeling funky. I blame IPOB with their stupid multiethnic Biafra. That's what is giving these lot's morale. |
AlexBells:Bang on! We must preach this message loud and clear until every Igbo man understand it. |
I remember this thread like yesterday. I have been looking for it for years. This was when the Ijaws were looking for Igbo support for GEJ. Suddenly they started saying all the truths they bottled up. Look Ndiigbo, what is the latest today? Have these lots repented of their Igbophobia noe they no longer need your votes for "Our Son" ? cc: Alexbells, IDENNA, adadike, girigidi, etc. When I argue for monoethnic Biafra, here is why. |
AdakaBoro8:The name Biafra was suggested by an Ijaw man from Yenegoa, Chief Frank Opigo, during Eastern region consultative assembly meeting and was adopted by other delegates in the meeting as a new name for Eastern region. And nope. Ndiigbo are not going together with any minority group, least of all Ijaws. It's all man for himself. Only a monoethnic republic of Igboland will do. |
Ndiigbo wanted and still want out of Nigeria. We wish Fulanis do same and stop preaching one Nigeria. |
BastardWike:Well put. |
[quote author=nextstep post=99553726] I am an Enuani man. As you know, there has been a complicated relationship between Igbos East of Niger, and their brethren West of it, who I'll collectively call Anioma. Many people whose families have lived in Enuani since time immemorial trace their origins to Edo, Esan, and of course Nri, among other places. Migration, settling, marriage ties, trade, etc has resulted in a melting pot of people who are distinct from the Igbos -I wouldn't be surprised if you are from Issele uku. The problem with your above assertion is the ignorant assumption that the people you termed "Igbo's" are a monolithic people with no diverse oral origin histories as well. Of course you know the SE have communities with claims of origins from Bini, Igala, Idoma, Ekoi, etc. But your agenda is better served by assuming they are one monolithic people. in the same manner Americans are distinct from the English, though they speak English and some do recognize their English ancestry. An Irish American, however, would balk at being called English, as would a German American, Spanish American, etc. The acceptable identity is American; similarly, the acceptable identity is Anioma.Poor example. English is spoken in America because America was colonized by Britain, just as Portuguese is spoken in Brazil because the Portuguese colonised Brazilians. Any one with functional brain cells would know that Ndiigbo at no point colonized Anioma people. If anything, Anioma was colonized by Bini. Yet her indigenous Igbo language survived Bini colonial onslaught, even though the people continue to suffer from Stockholm syndrome from that experience, as represented by irrational Bini origin histories. Throughout recent Nigerian history (past 150 years or so), there have been repeated incidents where Anioma was grouped either as Edo, or Igbo, South-South, or even Western Region, based on the prevailing political expediencyThere has never been a time in Nigerian history that Anioma has been regarded as anything other than Igbo. All precolonial documents called Anioma Western IBO, independent Nigeria, Anioma became known as Midwest Igbo. Post civil war Nigeria, it was Bendel Igbo, post 1991 it is Delta Igbo, until Osadebay Dennis, an Ohanaeze Ndiigbo chieftain coined the term Anioma. There are Ijaws in Ondo too, they remain Ijaw, and there are no talks of them being distinct because they don't share same political space with other Ijaws. That Anioma is not Igbo could not have been made any clearer by the declaration: "We, the Chiefs, Elders, and Representatives of Eastern Nigeria ... do hereby solemnly proclaim that the territory and region known as and called Eastern Nigeria together with her continental shelf and territorial waters shall henceforth be an independent sovereign state of the name and title of 'the Republic of Biafra.'"Biafra was not Igbo affair. It was Eastern region affair, the Efiks, Ibibio, Ijaws, Annang, Ekoi,Ogoni etc were Biafrans yet not Igbos. Biafra declaration had nothing to do with Anioma Igbo identity. Stop being obtuse. Eastern Nigeria did not include Anioma at that time, the Governor of Eastern Nigeria was not in charge of Anioma, and thus could not be referring to them when he says "your governor". There was also no subtext in the declaration that mentioned: "including the Igbo-speaking communities West of the Nigeria..." or anything to that effect.Biafra was a strictly Eastern region affair and not an Igbo affair. Ijaws in Biafra had their own people also in Midwest who were not part of Biafra. Before you argue, also consider the phrase: "Midwest_Invasion_of_1967". The invasion began on August 9 when 3,000 Biafran soldiers led by General Victor Banjo crossed the River Niger Bridge into Asaba. One cannot invade your own country.Again your understanding of history is flawed. Biafra was an Eastern region affair and not an Igbo republic. Yes, there were Biafra sympathizers from Anioma - several fought with distinction in the Biafra army, as did a few Europeans for that matter. There are also those who conclude that, since we speak Igbo, we are all Igbos. There is room for folks like NOI and Major Nzeogwu to recognize her Igbo ancestry; there is also room for others to recognize their non-Igbo ancestry as well.Funny enough, when Biafra invaded Midwest and made Dr Okonkwo from Anioma the administrator of the region. The Edo/Edoids rejected him claiming that Biafrans were imposing Igbo leader on them. Of course, the Edo know you are not one of them, they will only accept your Stockholm syndrome induced concocted oral stories of Edo descent as long as you accept to play the slave/inferior role in the relationship, like Obi Ezeagwuna of Issele uku is currently doing. Any moment you try to rule them or even claim equality, they will remind you that you are Owie-Ibo. Your concocted slavish Bini origin histories only works for the Bini as far as you remain slaves. All Highflyers in Enuani I know identify as Igbo. Jay Jay Okocha, Okonjo Iweala, Ned Nwoko, Elumelus, Ralph Uwaechue, late Osadebay who even coined the term Anioma as a founding member of Ohaneze Ndiigbo,Prof Nwaezeigwe, Prof Edozien the Asagba of Asaba, Prof Utomi all identify as Igbo It's usually the never do wells and attention seekers that go about the "we be Bini" nonsense, the wise and exposed people in Enu-ani know better. Anioma is redefining its identity - on its own terms - not based on the patronizing opinions of Igbos, and not on the confused understanding of other Nigerian communities, but on its own terms.Anioma is not evolving anything. It's just a political entity and that's all. The Ukwuani/Ndokwa commoners don't even subscribe to it,and the Ika are too parochial to leave their Ika identity for it. The promoters of Anioma identity are mainly Enu-ani people, with the other two groups (Ika and Ndokwa) viewing you with suspicious glances. |

Yankee101:Silly excuse to maintain a dead country. There are Americans married to Afghan, Iraqi women. Should Afghanistan and Iraqi now become an American state? Learn to separate national relationship from personal relationship. |
Malawian:We had then last time around, yet it changed nothing. What had changed? If we don't have the water advantage, then the onus is on us to develop the air advantage. |
Omoslim26:Nnaa Ikegwuru. Ndia enwero ifele at all. Otu a ka fa ga na ayo Ndi "Awa Oyel" unity ka aturu na enweghi uche. Even when they know how Igbophobic those lots are. Pretty much like Ozo and Nnegi of BBN. Its very nauseating to watch IPOB disgrace Ndiigbo like this and it breaks my heart. Igboho has told the world he has nothing to do with IPOB and Nnamdi KANU, but here we have Kanu issuing useless threats on top of Igboho matter. Kedu ife mmadu ji isi kotalu KANU na umu IPOB? Kedu udili mmechu iru bu nkaa? ![]() |
PHijo:Which Ijaw oil wells? During Eastern region era the two main oil producing blocks were Oloibiri and Owaza(in Abia state). Oloibiri had since dried up while Owaza is still running. Eastern region lasted at Igbo hands from 1960 to 1967, that's 7 years and its main source of income was not crude oil, but palm oil found mainly in Akwa Cross and Igbo areas and Coal at Enugu. The crude oil as a major source of income was still in the kitchen. |
