How do we change the perception of our populous, before we can even start changing hearts and minds of tourist with hard currency. I think tourism in Nigeria has never in the history of our country, been a focal point of attraction for indigences and foreigners alike. I hate sounding like a pessimist, but how do i  sell Nigeria to someone that is looking @ doing a 5nights 6days safari in Kenya?

Yankari Games Reserve
The Yankari National Park is the premier game reserve in Nigeria. Yankari Park and Wikki Warm Springs are located around the Gagi River, approximately one hour 30 minutes by road, southeast of Bauchi Town. The beauty and size of The Yankari Game Reserve make it the most pop­ular reserve in Nigeria.

Set up in 1956 and opened to the public in 1962, the main game-viewing areas of the reserve are open all year round. Japanese, Western Europeans, Americans and Southeast Asian tourists visit this park in abundance.

The reserve covers 2,058 sq. km. of savanna wood­land and is well stocked with elephants, baboons, waterbucks, bushbucks, oribi, crocodile, hippopotamus, roan antelope, buffalo and various types of monkeys. Lions are occasionally spotted as well, despite their natural cam­ouflage. The best time to visit is between November and May, when tourists are likely to see more game since the dense vegetation has dried out and the animals congregate around the rivers.

Wikki Warm Springs
The Wikki Warm Springs is one of the best features of the game reserves. Flood-lit at night, it is wonderful after a hot day’s game viewing to relax in the warm water. The spring gushes out from under a cliff, where the water is at least 6 ft. deep, with a bathing area that extends for 600 ft. to an open area. The park is inhabited by a variety of birds, including the huge sad­dlebill stork, golliath heron, bateleur eagle, vultures, kingflshers, bee-eaters and more. It is excellent for serious bird-watchers.

Other facilities include: Tennis courts, squash courts, a small museum in the reception area plus gas stations with convenience stores at Wikki Camp and Bauchi.

I think its important for everyone to know their blood type as the earlier you're aware you are a carrier, you can avoid having a relationship with someone else who is a carrier or if you do have a relationship decide if you will have kids or adopt.

I don't think it should stop you from marrying someone you love and having kids as long as you are aware of the risks. If 2 carriers decide to have kids there's a 1 in 4 chance that one of children will have the sickle cell trait.

Reasons for sickle cell
It is believed that carriers (sickle cell trait) are relatively resistant to malaria. Since the gene is incompletely recessive, carriers have a few sickle red blood cells at all times, not enough to cause symptoms, but enough to give resistance to malaria. Because of this, heterozygotes have a higher fitness than either of the homozygotes. This is known as heterozygote advantage.

The malaria parasite has a complex life cycle and spends part of it in red blood cells. In a carrier, the presence of the malaria parasite causes the red blood cell to rupture, making the plasmodium unable to reproduce. Further, the polymerization of Hb affects the ability of the parasite to digest Hb in the first place. Therefore, in areas where malaria is a problem, people's chances of survival actually increase if they carry sickle cell anemia.

Due to the above phenomenon, the illness is still prevalent, especially among people with recent ancestry in malaria-striken areas, such as Africa, the Mediterranean, India and the Middle East. In fact, sickle-cell anemia is the most common genetic disorder among African Americans; about 1 in every 12 is a carrier.

The evolution of sickle-cell anaemia is probably an example of Baldwinian evolution, whereby humans modify their environment and thus change the selective pressures. As humans in tropical areas in Africa and elsewhere developed agriculture and animal husbandry, they expanded the niche for Anopheles mosquitoes that could transmit the malaria parasite.

It is interesting that in the USA, where there is no endemic malaria, the incident of sickle cell anaemia amongst people of African descent is much lower than in West Africa and falling. Without endemic malaria from Africa, the condition is purely disadvantageous, and will tend to be bred out of the affected population.

Divination serves as a road map to your path.
Our ancestors exist and must be honored, respected and consulted.
The Orisa (forces of nature) live within us and deal with the affairs of men.
You must never harm another human being or the universe, which you are a part of.
Spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional realms of our existence must all work together and be balanced.
Sacrifice is necessary to assure spiritual success.

Some call it idol worship but the misconception was brought in by the colonialists. Due to their ignorance,they termed a very sophisticated religion to be idol worship. The Yoruba had been worshipping the Olodumare (All in All, the Creator of all) through the deities before Christ.

We've been conditioned to believe that our indigenous customs and traditions are bad, yet the imported religions and cultures we've embraced has not made us any better, isn't it time we embraced our own religions and cultures ?

I actually wanted to hear a lot more before posting on this topic. I work for one of the largest tour operators in the UK, for Africa we do packaged tours to The Gambia, Egypt, Kenya, Tunisia and Morocco.

Its all about perception, we do Egypt even though its security situation is a bit similar to Nigeria because of the constant threat of terrorist attacks.(Personally i'll feel more safer in Nigeria than Egypt  )
When i say perception, if you ask anyone to say the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Egypt, they'll tell you the Pyramids, Sphinx, the Nile etc. No one will mention anything about the recent terrorist attacks or the recent political turmoil in the country.
Ask anyone to tell you the first thing that comes to mind when you mention Nigeria, and it's probably corruption, political turmoil, civil war (yes some people still think there's a civil war in Nigeria)

If Nigerians don't sell 'Nigeria' no one else will. People will want to visit Nigeria even if there's a war going on if there's something in the country they want to see. We need to publicise Olumo Rock, Yankari game reserve, Obudu ranch, Zuma rock etc. Include pictures of these places at all our embassies abroad, at our airports etc. Like someone said in a previous post, Nigerians have to visit these places as well instead of rushing abroad for holidays.
   
Most foreigners think Lagos, Kano or the Niger delta is 'Nigeria' and do not realise that Nigeria is double the size of France, and that if there's trouble in one part of the country it doesn't mean the whole country is on fire.
Nigerians also have to be diplomatic when criticising the country especially around foreigners. People don't realise the 'monster' they create when they say things carelessly about the country. Yes we have problems and you can say whatever you like when you're among fellow Nigerians, but not in front of non Nigerians, because when things improve they will have no idea about it, but they'll always remember the horrible things you said.

There's an old white guy where i work who spent many years living in Nigeria (in the 70s and early 80s) and this guy has travelled all over Nigeria and even married an ibo woman. He has nothing but love for the country and would not hear a bad word about Nigeria. He always tells me that Nigerians are the friendliest people he has ever met. Now thats something we can use in a tourist brochure  .

The government has to play a major role and of course it has to deal with the electricity, security and road situation but it also needs to allow easy entry into the country as in abolish visas for short stays.

I jog for 3 miles at my local park and i also go swimming once a week. Jogging is a very good way of losing weight as you burn up a lot of calories and it keeps you fit as well.
I normally go for a jog during the weekends, but my daily routine is a 30 minute brisk walk to my local train station every morning on my way to work and in the evening on my way back.

Actually that just protects our skin from high levels of exposure to the sun and provides protection against sunburn and the development of melanoma, a potentially extremely deadly form of skin cancer

There is no consensus on the meaning of Jesus' and Paul's discussions of the end of the world as they knew it. Various interpretations of key passages in the Christian Scriptures (New Testament) lead to totally opposite conclusions:

Unfortunately, this and various other Biblical passages predicting the future are ambiguous. The events themselves are open to many interpretations. Ever since Christ's death, many Christians have been expecting the second coming in their immediate future. Most Fundamentalist and other conservative Christians believe that The Rapture will occur when Christ first returns towards earth. Most believe that Christ will not actually land or stay on earth at this time; the "real" second coming will occur later, when he returns on a horse leading an army on horseback who will exterminate one third of the earth's population in a massive genocide. It will be numerically the largest mass extermination of humans in history. In terms of the percentage of humans to be killed in a genocide, it will be second only to the flood of Noah.

The rapture concept is essentially ignored by most other Christian faith groups. It does not form a part of any other religion. It is dismissed by essentially all liberal Christian theologians. Many Bible handbooks, commentaries, dictionaries and encyclopedia do not even list "rapture" in their indices.

Thats the problem i have with sites like this, it's all about twisting things in the bible to prove a scenario, anyone can do this.

So soon after Israel takes Jerusalem the end of the world will occur. It says 'this generation shall not pass till all these tings be fulfilled'.
A generation in the Bible is 40 years, so the end of the world will be 40 years after 1967: 2007.

i find your posts quite amusing, you seem to have this need to convince us that the US is the best place to be and if people don't agree with you its because they have 'bad belle' or it is only those that are not living there or live in Nigeria etc etc.

Interestingly enough, all of these nations are Muslim nations, and Iran, Libya, and Sudan are three of Israel's most fervent opponents. Recently, Iran has been trying to develop its nuclear weapons program. And its president recently said that Israel should be wiped off the earth.

Its all political rhetoric, the reality is that Israel has nuclear weapons so it's highly unlikely any other nation will be stupid enough to use it against them. I will go on to say that Israel is more likely to use nuclear weapons first if it feels overwhelmed by a numerically superior Arab army. The Arabs are unlikely to use it first as any nuclear attack on Israel will not only affect the Jews but the Palestinians as well, Israel is also a small country so any nuclear fallout will affect the surrounding Arab countries as well.

The fight is for the land and no one gets anything if nuclear weapons are used.
