Its useless explaining scriptural quotes to non christians because it takes more that grammar to understand the scriptures. 1 is the context in which it was written and secondly is the Spirit's inspiration (or better put revelation) which enlightens you and even makes u see beyond the words.

In the Old Testament, Job 26:7 explains that the earth is suspended in space—the obvious comparison being with the spherical sun and moon. Bible writers used the "language of appearance," just as people always have. Without it, the intended message would be awkward at best and probably not understood clearly.

Which means everything in the Bible is subject to different interpretations like any other historical document that was translated and passed down from previous generations.
So quoting the verses in the Bible to justify the end of the world is no different from someone quoting the letters of Nostradamus http://skepdic.com/nostrada.html predicting the end of the world. They can both be twisted to suit any arguement.

whatever , are there any other animals apart from humans that have rigid rules regarding reproduction (i.e getting married and staying faithful to one partner), even our closest relatives - Apes have multiple partners.

I think the answer lies in nature; most male animals have multiple partners. Which means from a biological standpoint, man is not meant to be monogamous and only stays faithful to a single partner because of societal pressures

Hi there chocolatte, really feel for you after reading your story. I have a good friend who is also in a similar situation although the father has not contacted her yet and his daughter is 5 years old. I can imagine what will happen when the eventually 'father' turns up.

All i can say is that, its not about you alone and you need to consider your son as well. He will need a father and he will want to meet him at a certain point in time. Like a previous poster said you need time to think, don't make any decisions now.

I also think you should tell your son, you may think he is too young to understand but you may be surprised that he will. Whatever relationship he decides to have with his father let it be him that makes that decision, he is not blind to the fact that he was not part of his life for 10 years.

If this guy really wants to reconnect with his son, you have to let him despite the way you feel. There's a book called Manhood by Steve Biddulph

i doubt there is anything like that in the psychological makeup of man or woman, its a result of society and culture. When you grow up with people behaving in a certain manner, being encouraged to act a certain way, and think a certain way, it is only expected that most people will conform. There are few people who naturally break free from societal and cultural brainwashing to the point where they are unaffected by these things.

Why does someone else being smarter than oneself damage ones ego? We've been conditioned that we must be better than our peers, or we're failures. Men in most cultures are taught they are the provider, head, and brains of the family. As a result, they find it hard to exist in a situation that is contrary to what they have been taught is the way things should be, what they have seen and experienced as status quo.

I could go on and on about the ideal world or ideal male-female, human-human relationships. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. People in unbalanced relationships tend to polarize in opposite directions. The smarter and more financially successful one always seems to demand more control. Couples tend to forget that they are technically supposed to be like one person, and therefore neither should have more control over one thing just because they happen to be smarter or have a higher paying job. If only the world operated along logical lines. . .

allonym your post is so spot on, it seems to be the Nigerian thing to always want to 'oppress' others to feel good. When self esteem is based on a superiority complex or material things you will always feel insecure whenever you are with people who are better off than you.

Choosing to be with someone so you can be the 'dominant' partner all the time, means that within that relationship consciously or unconsciously you will always attempt to sabotage that person's progress (educationally,financially etc) so as to keep them at a level below you, so you can feel 'comfortable' with yourself.

British comedy is in a class of its own, they've produced great comedy like the Carry on series, classics like Benny hill show, Some Mothers Do Have Them, mind your language, mixed blessings, love thy neighbour etc

American comedy is so sanitised you can see the joke coming a mile away. There are few exceptions like Arrested Development, the Dave Chappelle show, Scrubs and Malcolm in the middle.

The current crop of American black comedy is so unoriginal compared to the stuff that was done before like In living color, The jeffersons, Good Times, Sanford and Son.

Men and Women have different meanings to what a 'break' in a relationship means. My view is, if you're not married or in a long term relationship then a 'break' means exploring other options i.e seeing other people.

For proving that just one person can make a difference even in a corrupt country like Nigeria. Only God knows how many lives she has saved with her crusade against fake drugs.

I am so impressed with this woman. The BBC did a feature on her some months ago, she is not only fighting the importers of fake drugs in Nigeria, she has also taken the fight to countries like India where most of the stuff originates from.

(2) Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (Minister of Finance)
For doing what many ministers before her couldn't do and actually getting us 'debt relief'

Actually this applies mostly to Nigerian ladies, they go out with a guy and 3 months later they are already planning the wedding. I once went out with a girl a long time ago and within 3 months she was already referring to me as her 'fiance'
Of course we had to go our separate ways 'cause i wasn't ready to settle down then and she was going way too fast for my liking.

The bottomline is, if you're ready to settle down now then its all good if not take your time and enjoy your life, its like 'puberty' it doesn't happen to everybody at the same time.

Why should you 'pity him', which one is better a man who is honest with himself and is not interested in settling down yet or the guy who gets married but is out chasing skirts every night.

There's no rule that says everybody must settle down, neither is there any rule thats says you'll be happy if you're in a relationship.

You don't need a shrink, you just want variety in your life.

Don't buy into our people's wahala, there's no book that says you have to be married or in a serious relationship by X age, In my twenties i didn't want to be tied down either (and i wasn't a player ) just wanted to travel around and experience life etc. But now i'm settling down and it feels ok

At least you're honest with yourself unlike some of our peeps that will get married and still be out hunting for fresh meat everyday
