dainformant: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Saturday confirmed the shooting of two of its officers on duty in Abia. An eyewitness had earlier told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the officers were shot by security aides to a top government official in the state.
The Public Education Officer of the Corps, Mr Bisi Kazeem, who confirmed the shooting to NAN, was silent on the identity of those responsible. Kazeem said the matter had been reported to the police for investigation, while the victims were receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
“It is true that our officers were shot this afternoon. The matter has been reported to the police and we are awaiting the outcome of their investigation. “The wounded officers have been hospitalised, and they are in stable condition. “This will not deter our men from carrying out their duties, but would rather embolden them to make our roads safer for Nigerians,” he said.
NAN learnt that the incident occurred at Umuikea Junction in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area. According to the eyewitness, an FRSC patrol team had flagged down the vehicle conveying the government official’s wife for seatbelt violation.
“The lady was in her vehicle with two other females and none of them was wearing their seatbelts. “As the road safety officers were talking to them about it, they flared up and started assaulting the officers. “The big man’s wife called her husband’s security aides, who rushed to the scene and started shooting sporadically.
“In the process, one of the FRSC officers was hit in the arm, and the other in neck and waists,” the eyewitness said.(NAN)

CastedDude: Mr. David Gospel Aniefiok, a. k. a DeGospel, a popular Uyo based Gospel music and award wining Artist from Uraun Local Government Area, had his branded Dakkada car burnt after it was attacked by some hoodlums in Akwa Ibom.
According to the Gospel Regga singer cum politician who expressed shock over the incident, he revealed that the attack occured when he went to visit a family member along Oron by Airport Road on Saturday 8th July 2017.
He disclosed that two young boys raised an alarm that his car was being set ablaze. As he rushed out, he reportedly saw some able-bodied with weapons and gallons of fuel which they used on his car. Some say the attack was done out of jealousy.

The World Health Organization (WHO) revealed the cases as it gave details of studies into highly drug-resistant forms of the sexually-transmitted disease.
Experts warned it was "only a matter of time" before last-resort gonorrhoea antibiotics would be of no use.
Teodora Wi, a human reproduction specialist at the Geneva-based UN health agency, said: "Gonorrhoea is a very smart bug.
"Every time you introduce a new type of antibiotic to treat it, this bug develops resistance to it."
The WHO estimates 78 million people a year get gonorrhoea - an STD contracted via the genitals, rectum and throat.
The infection, which in many cases has no symptoms on its own, can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy and infertility, as well as increasing the risk of getting HIV.
Wi, who gave details in a telephone briefing of two studies on gonorrhoea published in the journal PLOS Medicine, said one had documented three specific cases - one each in Japan, France and Spain - of patients with strains of gonorrhoea against which no known antibiotic is effective.
Manica Balasegaram, director of the Global Antibiotic Research and Development Partnership, said the situation was "grim" and there was a "pressing need" for new medicines.
The pipeline, however, is very thin, with only three potential new gonorrhoea drugs in development and no guarantee any will prove effective in final-stage trials, he said.
"We urgently need to seize the opportunities we have with existing drugs and candidates in the pipeline," he told reporters.
"Any new treatment developed should be accessible to everyone who needs it, while ensuring it is used appropriately, so that drug resistance is slowed as much as possible."

Sheikh was born on 18 August 1937. He received his early education and training under the tutelage of his father Mohammed Sanusi.
At the age of 18, he enrolled at the Center for Arabic and Islamic Education popularly referred to as Markaz in Agege, Lagos, Nigeria under the patronage of the late Sheikh Adam Abdullah Al-ilori رحمه الله.
He travelled to Lebanon to further his studies. He visited some of the Islamic countries, including Egypt, Syria, Jerusalem, Jordan, Saudi Arabia in 1960s. He was granted a diplomatic leave in 1967.
In 1970, the late Sheikh founded the Daarul Dawah Wal Irshad in Mushin, Lagos and in 1971, he moved to his new headquarters in Isolo.
He was the Director, Principal, Teacher at the Institute, also an expert on tafsir (Quranic exegesis), a historian per excellent, Preacher of repute well respected in the circle of Islamic and Arabic Scholars in the country.

PrettyCrystal: Two women who has always been at loggerheads in their compound decided to "slug" it out with each other in a public fight 'to show who is really in charge'. In a video which was posted online, the co-tenants threw punches and slaps at each other in front of others in the compound including children.
Funny enough, the other tenants refused to separate them as the women were allowed to fight themselves well so that the 'loser will respect the winner'.
Meanwhile, while the fight was going on, the neighbours who were having fun - decided to record the incident which was later posted online.
