Nairaland GeneralRe: Do You Think A Widow Is Rich If She Comes To The U.S. With Her Children? by Illuminatus(m): 5:45pm On Oct 16, 2013
No. They might have been rich in Nigeria. But once they moved, they went into a new a economy and the definiton of rich in American doesn't even begin with acquiring a visa.

Do you think a woman is rich if she comes to the U.S with a visa and brings her children with her?

Since some women come to the U.S. by marrying a man that lives in the U.S., what do you think?
This doesn't make sense. Explain.
EducationRe: Nairaland Annual Educational Debate Competition(planning thread) by Illuminatus(m): 5:16pm On Oct 16, 2013
Vivly: Exactly! Don't you think we are to take sides for the debate proper. This is an essay, not a debate
According to what I've been led to believe, this is a debate, but you have to WRITE it in the form of an essay. If you're against the topic you've chosen, write an essay stating why you are against that topic. There's no need to write in support of a topic if you're also going to write against it. It's called Argumentative Essay.
This shouldn't be too hard. We all engage in arguments on here.

leunamme93: I doubt if its a flex issue, did ur laptop fall or was drop on a place anyhow?? Same thing happened to my hp g60 last year only to have a new screen to fix it.
It didn't fall. I think it's a software thing because it just powered, showed the Start Up Windows logo and then went blank.
ComputersRe: Post Your Computer (PC) Troubles Here. by Illuminatus(m): 5:01pm On Oct 16, 2013
all4naija: It is graphical problem that needs a customer care attention. Either the flex is getting weak or the power button is having some disturbing interference with your screen activities in a funny way. It could also be something else.

I would advice you take it to your customer care center for a hardware fix.
Thanks. I'll find a place around Enugu.
P.S. If anybody knows a credible place to fix computers in Enugu, holla at me.

Could someone help me with this please? It's a HP Compaq running on Widows 7 Ultimate.

I'll write on the first topic. But I have a few questions.
What is the time frame for the submission of the essay?
Someone has already asked it, but are we supposed to take sides?
What's the word length?

I think what the coordinator had in mind was to make the forum as democratic as possible. While the current process isn't exactly ideal for you, it is interesting
EducationRe: Nairaland Annual Educational Debate Competition(planning thread) by Illuminatus(m): 8:13am On Oct 16, 2013
OKAY. So I've been observing the thread and it's just so irritating. You guys grumble a lot. He uses color, he uses smiley, he should pick topics, he should take up a partner, blah, blah, blah. It's making me sick. The coordinator is doing a good job already. But if you (especially the "judges"wink feel like he isn't doing something right, PM him and call his attention to it. Don't paste it on here.
We all read have the introduction. We saw how things were originally planned to be. But once the thread was open, things became hectic. Why can't we just follow the process he has thought up? HE is the coordinator. And while he could listen to our complaints and suggestions, he isn't duty bound to act on every one of them. Coordinating this forum is hard job (ever tried teaching a Primary 1 class), please let's cut him so slack and help him (in a matured way) make this debate a mind blowing one.
Simply pick the two you like. Forget about how we're going to arrive at two topics.
Have a splendid day.
CelebritiesRe: 5 Sports Men Rumored To Be Gay by Illuminatus(m): 7:55am On Oct 16, 2013
emaginltd: Point well delivered. But in the end, some things are meant to be done in certain ways. Sex is meant to be an act of intercourse between a man and a woman. Period. Except you aren't religious(Any religion), you have no grounds to dispute that. Finding excuses for things that we all know don't improve us humans as a specie or as creatures of God is simply vile, vague, myopic and vain.

I agree that a man sleeping around with a lot of women is wrong. I don't dispute that. But what you wont find me doing is trying to convince you that there is nothing wrong with it. Sex between humans of the same sex is the most condescending state we could possible yield to. Hell, even animals are smart enough not to do that.

We are all going blindly along with a rhetoric without even stopping, thinking and weighting the consequences of our actions. I'll give you an example:

50 yrs ago smoking cigarettes was as fashionable and classy as one could be...fast forward to today and guess what? the same people who told you to pick up the cancer sticks are putting people who have built a livelihood off it out of work. Why? the truth finally caught up with them.

imagine...just imaging, I'm not saying it is remotely possible but just put you imagination to work here: What if every man preferred or developed a sexual attraction to men. how would that affect the population?

It's plain to see my brother.
No. I'm not religious.
And who says homosexuality is dangerous to humans biologically? If some guys are having sex with themselves, what does that take out of you? The world population is already way past 7 billion and it's reaching to a point where the land mass can't contain everybody comfortably. Moreover, the fact that someone is gay doesn't mean he can have kids. Is everything you do helpful humans? Don't you use generators that produce compounds that affect the climate negatively? Don't you hate and encourage others to hate people because of their sexual orientation? I could argue that that is even more harmful to humanity.
You con't compare homosexuality with smoking. People smoke because they want/feel like they need to. People are gay because that's just who they are.
My point is, I don't see anything legally or morally wrong if two guys decide to jump each other in private. So shouldn't you. Forget all the lousy reasons. It isn't enough for you be judgemental about them. You yourself was saved by Grace, not by the Law. Don't judge, so you won't be judged. Be accomodative with other human beings as God is accomodative with you. And if your religion doesn't support gay people, don't judge them, pray for them in private. Finally, spread the message of love, because to love is to have faith, and he of little love...is of little faith.
Have a splendid day, Amigosmiley

emaginltd: That's your opinion and you are entitled to it my brother. But personally I simply cannot fathom the normality in being *sexually attracted to the same sex. IMHO it is wrong, inhumane and an illness. But Hey, like I said, that's just my humble opinion.

cheers!
That something doesn't make sense to you doesn't mean that it's wrong. I don't care that some guys sleep around with girls like dogs even though I can't fanthom(your word, not mine) why they do that.
Sexually attraction is one of the basic nature of adult humans. What's inhumane about that? Now, I can argue that to tarnish the reputation of these atheletes based on assumption of something that is really none of your business is inhumane (your word, not mine).
It is really a shame that you compare homosexuality to illness. Obviously, you haven't been to a hospital recently. But I don't have a problem with that. It is the fact that you are so close minded that I find /unhealthy/ .
And this isn't my opinion; it's common sense.
RomanceRe: If She Falls In Love With You First, Must You Love Her Back? by Illuminatus(m): 3:31am On Oct 16, 2013
I just finished telling a young woman this: don't ever get into a relationship out of compassion or pity. What I think you should do is ignore her (seemingly) attraction. It might pass with time. And start dating more often.
EducationRe: Plight Of Confused Student: Advice Needed by Illuminatus(m): 3:27am On Oct 16, 2013
Yes, the economy is more favourable to most science subjects, but that isn't what getting to the uni is about. University is where they teach you to excel at your choosen profession and if study hard enough and come out with an excellent result, you'll definitely get a good job.
What you need to do is to decide what course you want to study. Which subjects are you exceptionally good in? Which profession do you like best? Then re apply for a new admission. Either through Direct Entry or UTME.
What you must know- No course is /simple/ . You just need to choose the one you love the most and use you determination to learn.
Good lucksmiley.

Pointer, don't ever get into a relationship because He's a Christian, or you feel pity for him. If you do that? Quit your current job cos it'd take loads of your time keeping that relationship working.
You need to say no, firmly. Don't be patronizing. Don't tell too many stories. Don't sugar coat it in hopes of not hurting his feeling (he's going to be hurt that you said no, already). Just be firm and straight. "I don't want to...because I'm not attracted to you in that way."

[acolor=#000099] Whoever wrote blog is an...idiot. That a guy models a wedding dress doesn't make him gay. If so, modelling nude makes you a porn star? The list was just conjured on rumors and make believes.
Finally, what's the big deal if some sports men are gay? They're still humans and the last time wi checked some human beings are attracted to people of the same sex.
Conclusion: get a job or spend your time doing something more worthwhile than gossip.

That would be too authocratic.

Pick is right about most of the things. Yes, you need to TELL your parents.
And, your husband must not know that you're planning to divorce him. If he knows, it can open a whole new can of worms.
The process could be quite lengthy, so save up your strength. Good lucksmiley.

Blackbeauty: I discovered the popular books are no page turners..thats how I read 50 shades of grey, half of a yellow sun and odas...was wondering what people were raving about!
I don't agree with you. Yes, some popular books and authors don't often make sense to me (case in point, Stephen King) but it's not all of them. The way I see it, there's something that makes every popular book popular, it depends on whether I appreciate the book the way other people do.
Personally, I think Fifty Shades of Grey is a great book. It was interesting and entertaining. It's a shame the two succeeding books didn't live up to my expectations.

In as much as you want to try something new, you don't want to eat something that might end up with either or both of riding in an ambulance.
I suggest Pasta. You can decide to eat it with stew or sauce or cook it as jollof. You can spice it with eggs (scrambled, fried, boiled), meat and some vegetables.
I ate plantain yesterday. Are you interested in trying to cook it?
