Christianity Etc › Re: MAN Is Made Up Of Spirit, Soul And Body by Image123(op): 3:51pm On Nov 01, 2012
So, the summary of the thread is that man is made up of spirit, soul, and body. The goal of the thread is to show that. It is good knowledge, it is important knowledge, but it's not saving knowledge. That means thankfully that you do not need it to get to heaven smiley I'm saying that because there are many divisive people on nl. If they're not going on tribal melees of how one language is more superior than the other, they come also in trying to show us how their own church, sect or group is superior to others. How they've seen the light, and anyone who does not support their viewpoint is a scam, a twister and a pestilent fellow.
Man, i refer to huMANs, man and woman, boy and girl. Man is created in the image of God. He is the 'crown' of the earth. He was put on earth to reign over every other creature on earth. Man was made to reign and in that reigning, fulfill God's purpose. The angels were made to serve/minister, and in that way fulfil God's purpose. Yet, in hierarchy, man is made a little lower than the angels. You see, in God's eyes, its not really what you do but who you are. In man's eyes, we love to focus on the do unfortunately. To God, unity matters more. The eye has its role to play, so too does the heart, the head, the legs, the kidney. Well, God made the angels as spirits essentially/basically. Angels are spirit beings, and God Himself is a Spirit. Man was not made as a spirit being, He was made as a living soul essentially. Man was made with a natural body, the angels have spiritual bodies.

1Cor 15:44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

Spirit beings have their body. Human beings also have their specie of body, made from dust and perishable. there is no argument as to whether man has a body, or at least, no argument that i know of. So, i wouldn't dwell on man's physical body much. We all know of our bodies and how to take care of them. We have the physical senses of ear, eyes, nose, mouth, skin etc. Where there is 'debate is on whether there is anything other than the physical senses. In the beginning, God made man.
Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
The bolded 'man became a living soul' is proof from the Bible that man was made essentially as a soul. the soul is the man himself, the centre of his individual or self. The verse shows something else also, it shows that man is made up of and from, composed of soul, spirit, and body. Inside every man, we have a body, a soul, and a spirit. The dust of the ground BECAME man's physical body. The breath of life BECAME man's spirit. The dust was changed and the breath of life was changed. And they produced the real man, the soul. MAN became a living soul, having a spirit and a body. The body is not still dust, but made from dust. Same goes for the spirit made from the breath of life. This breath of lif e IS NOT God's own life, neither is it eternal life. Our spirit though permanently existing and having life, DOES NOT HAVE eternal life.
The fact that man is made of spirit, soul, and body is stated in scriptures though not emphasized.

1Th 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
It is gleaned here that the whole man is made up of spirit, soul and body. Every man has a body, not debateable. Every man also has a spirit and a soul. And this whole man can be sanctified. The arrangement Paul gives is catchy, Spirit, Soul and Body. Man's spirit is like his God sense, our sense organs to the spirit realm. You can only truly contact God or worship God in spirit. So it is the spirit of man that contacts/senses God. The physical body is not the primary means of contacting, seeing, hearing from or experiencing God. Communion, real fellowship is in the spirit. Not in the body, not in the soul. Man's body is of course our world's sense. We communicate with the world through our physical senses. Man's soul is our self sense, we know ourselves, perceive ourselves, and even understand ourselves better through the soul. The soul is more of the real you, you better not lose your soul. God designed man to function in the order of spirit, soul, and body. The soul is like, or supposed to be like a pivot, a seamless connection of the spirit and the body. But since the fall of man, there ha s being a mutiny as it were. Now in most men, the soul is king, or the flesh. Man lives by the basic desires of his body, or of his soul. The spirit is relegated to the backgroung, or worse still connected to spirit forces that are not of God.
In the original design, the soul is meant to be the link between the spirit and the body. The soul is where we have freewill. It is the place of decision and choosing. The spirit is noble and ought to commune with God. The body ought to be disciplined, and put under in the language of Paul. Man's soul is so powerful in volition that it can decide to resist God or humble itself and follow God. Without humility, faith may not manifest and profit the individual.
Act 7:51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.
Rom 13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
2Timothy 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

Our souls have uncommon power to resist God, and resist the truth. Of course, we also have the power to resist the devil. It's all a choice, what do we yield to when the test comes to decide. The Bible shows us plainly that each individual possesses a spirit and a soul. Consider the passages below as examples.

1Co 2:11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
The spirit of man which is IN man. Man has a spirit in him.

1Co 14:32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
the spirits of the prophets. The individual has a spirit. Your spirit is not the spirit of God. Observe the difference in the previous verse. You have your own spirit just as you have your own body.

Rom 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
Over here again, is one God's Spirit, and two our spirit.

Pro 25:28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
his own spirit. You have a spirit. Man is made up of spirit, soul and body.

Heb 12:23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
The spirits of men still exist even when they die. The spirit of man is the 'pneuma'. It is different from spiritual life which they term 'zoe'. It is different from the soul which is human life 'pscuche', or natural life 'nephesh'. Every human being also possesses this natural human life/soul, just the same way you have a body. Actually, the soul is the real you. It is what man is essentially, a soul. The scriptures severally refers to man as a soul. Tis does not take away THE FACT that every man has a soul, a spirit and a body. Its just who we are. Sometimes also we are referred to as flesh/body.
Gen 12:5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

Gen 46:27 And the sons of Joseph, which were born him in Egypt, were two souls: all the souls of the house of Jacob, which came into Egypt, were threescore and ten.
Eze 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

Notice that the father has a soul, the son has a soul in the latter passage, thought they are primarily referred to as souls. there are dozens of Bible references where man is shown to possess a soul, or with the expression 'my soul'. Like the popular bless the Lord o my soul passage in psalms or Genesis12v13, Job 10v1, Psalm 42v1,2, Luke 1v46 and 2Corinthians 1v23.

When God refers to man as a temple, and in the fashioning of the temple, it is evident that man is made up of three parts.
1Co 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
The old testament temple, though real and existing, is actually a symbol or type of who we are as human beings. We are God's real temple. The temple is made up of the outer court, the holy place, and the Holiest/holy of holies. The outer court is the outside, the body. It is in the broad daylight, seen by all and accessible to all. the Holy place is the inside, the soul. It is the place where the priests come to, and eat or offer sacrifices. It is outside the veil though. The holiest is symbolic of the spirit, the place of communion. No man can get there except the high priest once in a year, till the veil was rent. No human light here, its a place of quietness. Not like the soul where there is a lot of busy activity. My next post will try to examine the functions of the soul and the spirit. hopefully though, i wish its been clearly shown that every man has a spirit, a soul and a body.

My brother i don't know. You have
to ask Jesus.
I remember you tendered some
parables as exhibits to support
your position somewhere and the
opposition fought hard to ensure
it was never admitted into
evidence e be like say you
never recover
you don't know if Jesus told a lie and i need to ask Jesus! Do you understand the implications of your statement in the light of being condemned or justified by your words? or you just think this is all about Image123 and I must go the opposite of what he says? please oblige me, i do not recall me tendering parables as exhibits on any thread. Do remind me of it please,

If it serves its purpose there is
nothing wrong with it.
what's the purpose? if a lie is used to teach a lesson, does it further the gospel?
Christianity Etc › Re: What Is Wrong With A Parable? by Image123(op): 8:22pm On Oct 31, 2012
Before you start saying that Jesus
will not lie, we need to know if
Jesus claimed that these events
happened somewhere. if he did
not what's ya own
i hope you don't read the Bible the way you read my posts, selectively that is? or picking and choosing. Jesus will not tell a lie or you think He would? He is the Truth and i expect everything He says to be truth, do you? I don't wait for Him to claim "I'm saying the truth now oh" before I believe He always says truth.

what's yours?
Christianity Etc › Re: Can A Born Again Christian Be A Soldier? by Image123(m): 5:06pm On Oct 31, 2012
TroGunn: That verse does not imply Jesus ok'ed their profession. It just means he preached to different people including soldiers. And he pointedly told them to "Do violence to no man".

You said "every Christian has a mandate to disobey ungodly orders". What is so godly about the wars waged by nations, usually over selfish "national" interest? How would say, a Nigerian christian killing a Camerounian christian over Bakassi penisula be godly, both of them supposedly worshipping same God ?
I'm talking real life, not assumptions. Not every soldier gets to go to war. Like nigerian soldiers have not had to be involved in war for nigeria for more than 30 years now. There is a percentage that goes for peace keeping from time to time. Peace keeping soldiers try to ensue peace in foreign lands by trying to bring rebels, miscreants and sedition movers to judgement. Peace has a price, and when Jesus comes, He would bring peace with a huge price. One should however not engage in ungodly actions whether you are a soldier or a jobless fellow, or a student. There are many nigerian students who wreck more havoc than many a soldier.

of course it's just parables, or you
think Jesus was just gossiping
about other peeps. i.e. "are you
guys aware that Mr. 'A' was
robbed on his way to Jericho
yesterday, beaten and left for
dead? he was rescued by a good
Samaritan"
hmmm not really having specific people in mind. Jesus warned us over 2000years ago. If you find people whose pictures resemble the description on nl, good. Warn them about it too, they are all over, not only on nl. So, since its JUST a parable, what is wrong with a parable? And is a parable a white lie of some kind?

it used to be outsiders, unbelievers, atheists that had something against God's Word and swore to tear it down like Voltaire. Today, the enemy has found his way into the fold. There's so much wolves in sheep clothing. They have no goal of bringing others to the Saviour but to themselves. They is no more self -effacing, just a cunning but vicious creeping in. Their mission is to destroy the Word of God. Their goal is to accuse everything. They have every excuse under the heavens to excuse themselves and others from the Word of God. Show them God's Word and what they want to deal with is translation issues and Greek and Hebrew lexicons. They know nothing of the spirit and simplicity that is in Christ. From translation, they delve into testament issues. And even when shown the light in the new testament, the excuse is that its just a symbol, metaphor or parable. Another specie of wolves go on about words before Jesus died and after, and about Jesus talking to Jews only, or Corinthians only. But the Word of God is alive and powerful, and sharper than any sword. There is nothing wrong with the Bible but you.

@plap
Why are you like this? What do u mean Sabbath don dey tire me, i have never come across this verse, ever since i have been asking NL where in the bible says the law is no longer valid
no one has been able to privide this verse. I am studying the bible, but i'm yet to arrive at the NT, i didn't want to jump pages for a better understanding.

By the way, why should Sabbath tire me, i have been enjoying it, it has created much time together with my family, and has made me have more time to study my bible
So what is there?

It is now wrong for one to asked Question in NL, @image123 is that perfect christian that never ask others question.

Dey show urself there
so i found the trouble, hahahahahahahhhhhhahahaaaaahaaahahaahahahahahaa cheesy
Well then, to be fair, let me be on your side. One thing i'd advice. If you're looking for explanation next time from fellow humans, try to get a good Bible commentary instead, not NL. NL is not the ideal place to get spiritual counsel ehn! Go and look for children of God you can sincerely share God's Word with without unneeded distractions, or ask your church/felowship leaders. An dof course, ask God's Spirit i.e the Holy Spirit to teach you, and He will. Make i just chip in some sentences for the passage sha.

Gal 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
Settle this clearly in you. This is the focal point of the two testaments. NOBODY is justified by the law in God's sight. You can't, i can't get righteous by keeping the law. Maybe before man, they may see me as a good guy by keeping the law, but not God.Even atheists will call me good, perhaps because i do not commit adultery, or lie, or cheat, or kill. I may even rate myself good because i do this things. But God does not rate anybody good or righteous by his keeping the law.
Rom 3:12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
Isa 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Before God, we can never meet the standard of righteousness.
Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

His standard of righteousness is so high we cannot attain it. We can ONLY be saved by His mercy. It is His mercy that sent us Jesus Christ to save us. Now, in Jesus, through faith in Jesus, we are saved. So now, Jesus becomes righteousness for us. He is our substitute. in the New Testament, we are made righteous by faith in Jesus. Believing in Jesus.
Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

We are to seek/look for GOD's righteousness. We spend a lot of time and energy trying to establish OUR righteousness, like the jews. But our righteousness can NEVER meet God's standards. Our keeping laws can never make us righteous. Instead, we are made rightous, so that we can keep God's laws.
Rom 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
Notice the two righteousness mentioned in that verse? God's righteousness is FOUND in Jesus Christ.
1Cor 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

Jesus is God's righteousness. Accepting and BELIEVING in His new covenant is what makes us righteous before God.

Phi 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

So the keeping of the law does not and cannot make us righteous. It is Jesus that can make us righteous, when He comes into u by faith and is made the righteousness of God to us by faith.

Galat 3:22 But the Scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
The scriptures has found us all wanting. Everyone is guilty under the law, either by default birth, or b commision or omission.

Gala 3:23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
Gala 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

God gave the law to show us that we could not meet the standard. Man can only try, but at the end be found wanting under the law. Could my zeal no respite know, could my tears forever flow, ALL for sin cannot atone. The law was our teacher. It was given to teach us that we cannot attain it on our own. Unfortunately, majority are yet to learn that lesson.

Gala 3:25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
Gala3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

Now that faith has come i.e faith in Jesus, we are no more UNDER the law. This simply means that those in the new covenant, who have found salvation in Jesus are now promoted. Its similar to leaving primary school to high school. It's not contradictory but a learning process, a growth in stage. The law is not to be treated with scorn or hat like many do. Actually, the law is good and holy. But it doesn't take us to our goal, just like primary school education cannot get us a good job or into college/university. We are no longer under the schoolmaster does not translate into lawlessness. It just means that we are now in grace. Grace helps us to keep the law. Under the schoolmaster, we cannot keep the law. You don't throw away all you learnt in primary school, it is actually FOUNDATIONAL to your learning all through life. The law/schoolmaster is like an exacting perfectionist dragging you almost to do good, but you can't keep up And its usually with a correcting whip for your learning troubles. But grace, faith in Christ Jesus is the helping hand that helps you do the same things, even more than the law required. If you notice, the commands in the new testament are higher and tougher than the old testament in comparison(Recall or read Matthew 5). The turn is that We as children of God, are RIGHTEOUS by faith, then we obey God's Word as it is our new nature. Unlike the law, where we are trying to obey the God's word so as to be righteous or acceptable.

Gala 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Gala 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

We have all PUT on Christ once we believe and are baptised. Christ is our righteousness. He that believes and is baptised shall be saved. And the new testament has just the faith criteria. It is for everyone and anyone. Whosoever believes. it is a better, improved, new package. You don't need any qualifications. Jesus is what qualifies you. you don't have to be a Jew, or circumcised, or a man, or from the tribe of Levi, or a freeman. There is no hinderance, the veil has been torn when Christ died.

Gala 3:29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
If you are Christ's, you are an heir of the kingdom. you are God's child. You now have power. This power can help you to please God. We are not made righteous by faith so as to displease God, or become lawless. We are made righteous, and empowred to obey God's Word. The stuggle of the law is now made easy. Someone in college doesn't find primary school work as a burden or impossible. He has all potential to do it and teach it IF NEED BE. That's the summary of the passage oh, plap.

Joagbaje are you saying anytime you read the quote above, you truly feel that it describes you? that Jesus was talking to you?

I know image123 considers himself a pharisee, the reason he's glued to Mathew 23:23 grin

The message in Mathew 23:23 was for Scribes & Pharisees (hypocrites grin), if you believe you belong to the category listed, you can continue to tithe grin
there is woe for anyone who neglects the important things, and for all who subtract or cut off the Word of God. why did you cut that verse to suit your taste?

Joagbaje: Matthew 23:23. (Living bible)
"Yes, woe upon you, Pharisees, and you other religious leaders-- hypocrites! For you tithe down to the last mint leaf in your garden, but ignore the important things-- justice and mercy and faith. Yes, you should tithe, but you shouldn't leave the more important things undone.

Most religious men value Jesus words more than epistles . But they seem to turn blind eyes to this . Jesus said. We should tithe . Nobody in the bible ever said otherwise . Not even God.
