Christianity Etc › Re: Where Was Daniel? by Image123(m): 9:15am On Jun 05, 2012
on the OP's first enquiry, there are many possibilities. They say its the person that passes that is called brilliant, and it's the one that is caught that is referred to as thief. It's possible Daniel was not around or within 'catching distance', vice versa with The Daniel in the lions' den event. Also note from the passage that it was a jealousy thing. The king did not see or notice them. it was bad belle people that went to specifically report them, but necessarily that they were the only ones in the whole world who did not bow.

no, God did not want the plane to crash. God's will is not often done on earth as it is in Heaven BTW.
There were several unbelivers and relatives of unbelivers in that plane. it did not stop the crash, get back to us when you get a 'better' way to Heaven.

June 3 A living faith that fears.

Acts 2:43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

Recently the news made the rounds about a man that died from snake bite. It was argued that he died for his faith. Well, maybe he died for his faith. There are different kinds of faith and different levels of faith. For those who crave for living faith, you need to know that living faith has fear in it. Our Today's passage says fear came upon every soul. Every soul includes every soul, doesn't it? It includes all the souls of the apostles, the disciples, the "120", the 3000 souls that were added to the church of Christ, every soul.
The right mix of fear and faith produces living faith. Living faith is the faith without which it is IMPOSSIBLE to please God. It means, if you do not have living faith, you cannot please God. faith i.e living faith, should not be mistaken for lack of common sense, or arrogance, or for self-confidence or overconfidence. Any STUDENT of the Bible should know that a credible believer must have some fear, at least the fear of God. Any READER of the Bible can come up and say there should be NO fear of any kind, and even quote some scripture with it. How do you read (Like Jesus asked "How readest thou?"wink. Read like a student and read with the Spirit. God created fear and it should be put to good use and mix with faith. It's like cooking food, the right quantities have to be put for the food to be suitable for eating. The right quantity of water, heat/fire, maggi, salt, sugar, oil etc.
We all need some fear even naturally. Fear would make you cross the road carefully, not 'faith'. Fear would keep you far from wild animals and poisonous rodents, even if they were caged. Fear would make you not quit your job or studies abruptly. Fear came upon every soul, and it produced signs and wonders as seen in Today's passage. We ought to fear and reverence God. We ought to reverence and respect our leaders, spiritual, political and organisational/institutional. We ought to respect our church and its doctrine and fellowship.
Some people think it is unchristian to respect church leadership, they need living faith. you should not talk to, or about a church leader, any church leader anyhow. Fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. We need the old time religion, the early christian approach, we need to live eternal life the way the first century converts lived it. Then, we would experience living faith and its wonders and signs unlimited.

solidbroda: if you know he origin and history of geometry, you wont be saying all this. All those ancient mathematical gurus, do you think they just name a shape just any name? The mayan calender was circular to read day, month and year. It wasnt called cirrcle then, it was another name. The star of david was not known as hexagram when it wad put in place. why was the cross of Jesus simbolic? Is that not a shape also? I believe you should not comment if you dont belive symbols and shape rule the world. Every occultic societies hav their own symbols. They give you a name when you where born because it has meaning. You cannot ignore a certain phenomena, if you dont know its origin and just call it an accidental occurence
Titus 1:15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

Romans 14:14 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

1Co 8:4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
1Co 8:5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
1Co 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
1Co 8:7 Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

i'll leave you with the above scriptures, i'm not going to argue on this.

@logicboy
Secularism is the principle of separation between government institutions and the persons mandated to represent the State from religious institutions and religious dignitaries.
This position is supported by christianity and by the Bible.
John 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
The Bible asks christians to cooperate with and be subject to the government as much as they do not tell us to disobey God. It operates a separation from the 'world', yet an accomodating stance. That is secularism defined.
Secularism involves the right to freedom from governmental imposition of religion upon the people , political decisions should be unbiased by religious influence. Nigeria fits into this class. We operate freedom of religion, and a right to vote and be voted for irrespective of your religion. We currently have a president who says his religion is christianity, and a vice president who says he is muslim by religion. There is no country that does not have religious people, and Nigeria has a secular constitution. The nigerian law protects the rights of religious minorities. How oucan say nigeria is not secular baffles those who don't know better.

@jayriginal
Since you know how to read, please quote where I said that christians are only found in Nigeria and Africa.
i didn't say that you said so, i said "you think that Christians are only found in nigeria and africa ba?"

And Yes, I didn't say or suppose that i've never had 'sleep paralysis', you need to learn how to read.
i tried putting myself in your shoes and re-reading my posts on this thread to see if i had been equivocal as to make you think so. in all fairness, you should take what i say in the full context of my other posts, at least all my other posts on the thread. posts like i can never experience it, and I'm sure you know why..i believe this sentence to be different from "i have never experience it, and I'm sure you know why."
i have no such useless unique experiences, Jesus took care of them for moi, jealous.is different in meaning from "i have never had such useless unique experiences, Jesus took care of them for moi, jealous." Notice also the JESUS TOOK CARE OF THEM part.
i also said Jesus makes that 'paralysis' flee since forever. Your gods are late.. Meaning Jesus can make you never to have it again.
Where i've seen sounds ambiguous is "well, you are doing a good job troubleshooting, but i want to assure you that i have gone through the bolded, many times and did not for once have sleep paralysis. Not even by chance or mistake. Try harder, this is jetage?". What i meant here in context was the present, not the past. That is, that i've formerly experienced it until Jesus took it away. AFTER THIS, i've been through a lack of sleep,
a sleep schedule that changes
mental conditions such as stress
sleeping on the back
use of certain medications
, ALL these conditions except the last SEVERALLY, without for once having sleep paralysis. Not even by chance or mistake.
Christianity Etc › Re: Which Light Did God Create On The First Day? by Image123(m): 10:15pm On Jun 01, 2012
For posterity sake as it were,

Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Gen 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
Gen 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

It should be noted that Genesis 1 talks about the history of the earth, or better still, the universe, not an history of God. God has always existed forever, for all eternity. Angels existed too, and Heaven(i.e God's dwelling place) existed. god is Light, and there was light in Heaven. So Genesis 1 is not the first time God would 'see' light or create light. the creation of light in this passage is with respect to the darkness found in earth/the universe. this light came as a result of the darkness, and was used to demarcate light from darkness.

Gen 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
Gen 1:15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
Gen 1:16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
Gen 1:17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
Gen 1:18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
Gen 1:19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

these new group of lighting was a process of assigning the sun, the moon and the stars to be in charge of giving light to the earth and heavens/universe. The night here is not complete darkness, as there is a lesser light to rule the night. it's an improvement and delegation on the previous framework and foundation of creation of earth.

June 1 Luke 1v26

Luke 1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

Going by experience, it appears that many prefer to have their visitors unannounced and surprisingly, especially when that visitor is a close friend or a near colleague. If your friend called you and said that he was coming, there is that tendency to want to avoid that visit. Ironically tough, when he comes, you can spend the whole day happily chatting away and it seems that you don't even want him to leave. God sent angel Gabriel on such an unexpected visit that produced a vibratingly wondrous effect. In the sixth month, God sent Mary an unexpected visitor. A fellow servant of God, an angel, God's messenger and minister. She got the visit of her life, unexpectedly, in the sixth month, after John the baptist was conceived.
Be prepared, this sixth month, anything can happen. this sixth month, everything is possible. god is ready for a spectacular performance. If you can believe, with God, impossible is nothing. There will be a performance, a heaven-class performance. This was a visit that changed Mary's to-do-list for good. This month, God wants to positively disturb your routine. Mary never planned to be in Judah from Nazareth that month. This month, an unexpected journey, a pleasant journey, a journey with God-speed, a journey in the Son. God has great plans for you. Your life is filled with potential hoping to be utilized by the key of faith. Make this month a faith month, make this a prayer month, make this your holiest month.

Purist: Maybe you missed the part that said, "Up to as many as four out of every 10 people may have sleep paralysis". Meaning, not everyone experiences it, and for those that do, it does not depend on whether they believe in Jesus or not.

Personally, I experienced it only a few times as a kid and I haven't had it ever since. I never prayed about it, I didn't go to no church, I didn't call on no Jesus. It simply stopped.

To be honest, it was here on Nairaland that I first got to "learn" that sleep paralysis is a "spiritual attack".
Did you have to grow up in that same environment you experienced it as a kido?

jayriginal: Jet age ?

The more reason you should free yourself of superstition. Sleep paralysis does not affect everybody. If you have never had it, its no evidence of Jesus. A lot of non believers have never had it either.

Also, you went through the "bolded". I noticed you listed "certain medications" as one of those you've been through. Without the author being specific, how would you know which medications he was talking about ?

Oh and just so you know, sleep paralysis cuts across cultures. Its not a Nigerian or African thing. Go figure!
and who said its a nigerian or african thing. Too much time playing at game center makes you to think that Christians are only found in nigeria and africa ba? Grow up, and stop having fantasies that devil only operates in nigeria.
plus I didn't say or suppose that i've never had 'sleep paralysis', you need to learn how to read.

Who Develops Sleep Paralysis?

Up to as many as four out of every 10 people may have sleep paralysis. This common condition is often first noticed in the teen years. But men and women of any age can have it. Sleep paralysis may run in families. Other factors that may be linked to sleep paralysis include:

a lack of sleep
a sleep schedule that changes
mental conditions such as stress
or bipolar disorder
sleeping on the back
other sleep problems such as narcolepsy or nighttime leg cramps
use of certain medications
substance abuse
well, you are doing a good job troubleshooting, but i want to assure you that i have gone through the bolded, many times and did not for once have sleep paralysis. Not even by chance or mistake. Try harder, this is jetage?

Gen 2:8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
Gen 2:9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Obviously, from this passage it is not figurative. It was planted by God , and grew, and was in the middle of the garden of Eden. the garden of Eden is not Eve's body BTW. And the name of the tree is stated so i wonder why the question. The name of the fruit is the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil lipsrsealed
Christianity Etc › Re: Greater Works Than These by Image123(m): 5:32pm On May 30, 2012
uhonmora: I had a discussion with a friend who claimed that he would walk in the air soon because Jesus said His disciples would do Greater works than He did.

Is this faith or mere delusion ?
Well, you've got a wrong perspective with your friend. Miracles are by the way to God, there are no miracles in Heaven in that sense. Satan does miracles too BTW. What Jesus had in mind is the works of righteousness, and of love(they are interconnected anyway). It's easier for a lame hater of God to be made to walk than for him to be made righteous. Jesus alluded to this fact when it said. Mat 9:5 For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?
Mat 9:6 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

God counts forgiveness of sins, and walking in righteousness a greater work than healing miracles or turning water to crude oil. It is man who is not spiritual nut natural/physical that counts the 'magic' he sees as a greater work. The primary purpose of Christ was to save people from sin. And if that purpose is not fulfilled in your life, you are yet a failure whatever else you may receive.
When Jesus was on earth, He was not in the frame to unite His disciples or empower them like after He went to the Father.

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
When He went to the Father, then He got us a right, and the Holy Spirit, and sanctification. Then the disciples were united and in one accord. Then they lived without fear of anything, in holiness and in righteousness ALL the days of their lives. That's the greater work God wants to achieve in every life, not the tele-film tricks people think of. It is righteousness and righteous acts that exalt a nation, not free manna, rice donations and miraculous monies in the bank account of MOGs.
