mapet: Private conversation? Do you have a private conversation with paparazzi and video recording in play? What's your definition private conversation? Let's assume for once that we are on the same page on the private conversation debate; can anyone in the UK have an alleged private conversation with his/her family members (on record/video) about joining a terrorist group and such a person would not be invited for questioning by security agencies? Would such a person not be held accountable for his/her inappropriate remarks made in the so-called private conversation? Finally, there isn't anything as ugly in communication as conversing with a party who is obsessed with repeating the same line over and over again irrespective of what ever you have said. I have clearly stated that a PMB condemning Cameron's statement isn't the same as demanding an apology. For instance, if you slapped; telling you what you did was wrong, isn't the same as demanding an apology for the unprovoked slap. However, Keeping quiet over the slap is direct invite for another ugly slap in the very near future; especially from others who witnessed the slap incidence. |

JohnnieZM: Who are the we? Are all Nigerians corrupt? Why tag a whole nation as corrupt? What do you know about image and brand? In the private sector, would a CEO/MD allow another CEO rubbish the totality of the brand he has been working hard to build? If Buhari really cared about Nigerians living at home and abroad, he would not so happily welcome the 'fantastically corrupt' tag on the nation. 1 Like |

back2sender: if only you would read previous posts before quoting people blindly, which seems to be your problem; myopic reasoning!!! I did say" in addition to requesting for a refund of our stolen monies, PMB should have categorically condemn Cameron's unbridled comment. You do not because of few corrupt elements, label a whole country as corrupt. You do not because of few disillusioned Muslims blowing up innocents people, call all Muslims "fantastic terrorists". And, if you are unable to visualize the impact of such remarks on a nation and it's citizens(home and abroad); am sorry, I can't help you. I would also try not to reply your post. |
Politics / Re: Buhai Reacts To David Cameron's Statement About Nigeria by irondome: 5:12pm On May 11, 2016 |
mapet: A PMB categorically condemning Cameron's remark as inappropriate isn't same as demanding for a recant of statement. Making him accountable for his gaff would ensure that does not happen again; and not only Cameron, but also other world leaders. If this blew away very easily, then we should expect another world leader to make another condescending remark in the nearest future. We can not continue to aggressively fight corruption on the home front, only to allow an unbridled comment from a world leader, disparage our image. It's counter productive. |

mapet: If you do not see anything wrong in what Cameron said, then you have self-esteem issue. Even right thinking Britons called it a diplomatic gaff. It would have been lot reasonable if Cameron had quoted a source e.g, according to so so and so report, these two countries have a high corruption index. |

podosci: 1. Learn to know people before making personal remarks about them. At the very least, read their previous posts. 2. Is Buhari making some effort to address corruption? Absolutely YES, even one of the guys in the video stated that " the new president is trying to do things differently, which I believe Cameron is obviously aware of. 1 Like |

caleb404: You are right about PMP. He goofed big time when he was running his mouth across the globe that Nigerians are corrupt. Honestly, I believe that was where Cameron found his liberty to call us --fantastically corrupt. Incidentally, I share Freeze's perspective. Just recently, your dad was implicated in a Panama Paper scandal, and yet you have the effrontery to call a whole nation corrupt. So freaking annoying!!! 2 Likes |

DropShot: Applause means nothing mate, that response isn't effective. Cameron invariably called all Nigerians "fantastically corrupt". Personally, I can take any insult but be referred to as lacking integrity. That literary means you are a nonentity. Now because of this ugly incident, any westerner that bumps into Nigerians would be looking for red flags in his/her dealing with us. Warren Buffet once said, put a police officer to tail the most careful driver continuously for 2 weeks, that driver would surely get a ticket. Same with looking for red flags where there are no flags; no flag becomes red flags. I believe PMB should have taken a more offensive approach. In addition to requesting for a refund of our stolen funds, he shouldn't have"happily" agreed that Nigeria is corrupt. His response should have been-- corruption is a global issue with corrupt elements in every nation of the world; as such, I find it inappropriate for a world leader to characterise another sovereign nation as corrupt. He should have gotten more personal by referring to the Panama paper incident as perfect example of global corruption picture (Cameron parents had an investment there). 3 Likes |

Foreign Affairs / Panama Paper Finally Goes Online by irondome: 11:25pm On May 09, 2016 |
The Panama Papers affair has widened, with a huge database of documents relating to more than 200,000 offshore accounts posted online. The Panama Papers have shown how some wealthy people use offshore firms to evade tax and avoid sanctions. The papers belonged to Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca and were leaked by a source simply known as "John Doe". The company denies any wrongdoing. Last week it issued a "cease and desist " order to prevent the database being made public but the organisation that has the documents, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), went ahead. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-36249982 Let the name checking begin!!! https://offshoreleaks.icij.org/ |

Momoluwa: Not entirely true, the last 2-3 draws have been 1000 number of ITAs. Specifically, all the draws after IRCC released their Plans/target for the year, has been around 1000 number ITAs. If you perused the plan critically, you would notice a significant reduction in number of Skilled (PR) visa they plan to issue this year. Apparently, the liberal government favored the family class and refugees (as their quota for the year increased) Putting all these together, it's less likely (not impossible) that IRCC would increase the number of ITAs per draw. Because of the reduced quota and the backlog on the old paper applications, IRCC can continue to draw 1000 ITA and still meet their target for the year. Whether the score would come down depends of the number of applicants in the pool with high score. |
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by irondome: 5:02pm On Apr 20, 2016 |
britiko: If only you would stop quoting the article out of context my friend? The opening paragraph clearly stated that " Based on all reports provided thus far, we can confirm that the number of candidates in the pool residing outside Canada who received Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence in the latter half of 2015 increased significantly" If you had meticulously followed ALL the draws made by IRCC last year, you would know that IRCC made several 450 draws in the last 4 months (September of 2015), which never happened in the first 7 months. So, as the draw point dipped, more outlanders who couldn't muster point above 450+ region got drawn. Likewise, for as long as the draw points stayed high in the first 7 months, the Inlanders were favored as the more qualified among them got points equivalent to the Canadian degree and local work experience. Bringing that home to the trend this year, with the points hovering around 470, Inlanders are still more favored as it's extremely difficult for outlanders to hit that score. And if the PGWP guys get unrealistic and demand for special points for education because they have a Canadian Masters (which would see a fellow with PG degree from a tiny college in Canadian get higher score than degrees from world's top ranking Universities like Harvard, Cambridge, Duke, etc), the number of 470+ pointers would increase. With more Inlanders hitting 470+, outlanders would perpetually be relegated to the pool. In summary, the EE is still currently skewed to favor the Inlanders, and any PGWP holder that has failed to realize this, is "being an ostrich". Even if IRCC gratify their unrealistic demand that allocate all PR slots to PGWP; only a fraction of them (PGWP guys) would still get the PR (as PR can't cover the number of PGWP holders). What would they do next? Call for IRCC to increase the PR quota? Bottom line, IRCC has not promised any PGWP holder any PR. Let them make use of the available path to PR, same way the outlanders are hurtling for migration points writing tests here and there. |

britiko: You are trying to eat your cake and have it. You said " the dude caught in the new EE web doesn't have a skill job or has not done a skilled job over the last one year" So we can conclude that he or she is yet to integrate fully into the Canadian work culture system; as such, should NOT be valued ahead of outstanding outlanders. |

britiko: I feel their pains, but no sane government would make PR too easy for ALL international students. At the very least, they can work toward their masters or a second diploma, and then ACE their IELTS. |
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by irondome: 1:52am On Apr 18, 2016 |
britiko: 1. Canadian schools do not equate IRCC; as such, IRCC is not under any compulsion to bulge. And they decided to, good on them. 2. An investment in Msc is seen as investment in education and not a route to migration by most countries.Several Students in UK, US and Australia invested so much in MSc and had to leave after their various programs. So what makes Canadian International graduate any more special. For instance, in my own class of 15 international students in a top Uni in Australia, only 4 of us were able to stay. The others had to leave after the expiration of their temp visas because that was the deal. DIBP didn't promise PR along with student visa. Same applies to Canadian students, IRCC didn't promise anyone PR visa after studies; the deal obviously was certificate + PGWP . For those with 1 year PGWP, if their degree was MSc, then, they should simply ACE their IELTS like every other skilled migrant had to. And if they went in for a diploma, they should simply re-enroll for further studies for more years of PGWP. Am not hating on anyone as am already a resident, am just saying --they shouldn't push IRCC to literally convert a Skilled Migration scheme to post study migration scheme. 4 Likes |
