Andre Uweh: . . . The Igbo is the pioneer that strongly believes that with courage and hardwork one must spell sucess. That is why in any business or profession where he finds himself, he makes a success of it, from hawking of goods and services to the administration of political and commercial concerns.True. Chukskalidon: . . . Yoruba's will keep up with their everlasting culture of not being educated and lingua. The Igbo's though the most civilized and westernized still has their culture retained and maintained.WTF?! Chukskalidon: We have music industry at lagos but what culture do we watch everyday in the movie, the Igbo culture. Who would like to direct a movie where cows and illiterates are the main culture of the movie. Unless the director has been nuisance to the industry. How many proffesional directors had ever directed the Yoruba movie. . .Gibberish. |
dayokanu: The meat is boiled before adding to the stew to make it soft and chewable. You can also boil fish before adding to stew but its not compulsory because Fish is naturally softer than meat. ![]() And you're supposed to add all your seasoning to meat while boiling, not after - that way the flavor is really deep down in the meat. hahaha. Dayokanu needs to go get married! Seriously. ![]() |
Brother Ptolomeus, I came across this eye-opening video about traditional Yoruba religion a year ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LS_IBMQhx5A I was recently re-watching it and showing to some friends on how it reminds me of Muslim prayer. I hope you find it educative about Yoruba religion. I plan to view more of the poster's videos on YouTube. Also, I saw that this Cultural thread of yours is now in the Tribalistic (sub-Politics) section, after a notorious hateful tribalist posted on it. If you didn't originally create it in that section, I suggest you protest to the moderators, OAM4j (Politics) and Odumchi (Culture) to move it back to Culture section. https://www.nairaland.com/934908/yoruba-people-considered-arrogant |
LagosShia: well, that is a good question.applause for your post, brother. salaam. |
martin123: Hell house, I am preparing for my traditional marriage, and I want to know who takes responsibility for the reception, is it me or the family of my wife to be?? Please I want serious minded people to answer the question, not the children in NLIn almost all societies in the world, including African groups, the bride's family is responsible for wedding preparations and party expenses. The groom is merely responsible for the bride price and the gifts requested by the bride's parents. So, the bride's family will pay for the Reception. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule. 1) Some couples already share responsibilities and if the man is more financially able, the groom will often give his fiancee the money she will give her parents to help with the party expenses; Conversely, some brides will help their fiance pay for some expenses, although, it is a general belief, that a bride should never help the man pay for the bridal price or gifts. (she can help him pay for other things, like lending him money to give his family for car rental or other extraneous expenses not directly involving the actual bride price and gifts.) 2) There was a thread on here where some of the princesses of NL swore up and down they would never lift a finger or donate a penny to assist in paying for their wedding - some said it's their culture - that the man pay for every expense of the wedding. It's not that way in mine, so I cannot verify it. Bottomline, I would check with your people what your tradition and culture dictate. Since it is for the 'traditional' wedding, I'm sure you want to stick to the real cultural traditions of her culture and yours. From my personal observation, you, being the man really have nothing to worry about. Women, especially the bride's mother (along with your mom and fiancee) will love to do A to Z of the wedding preparation. All you have to do is send some bread to your mom every couple of weeks before the big day. lol. ![]() Congratulations! ![]() |
stiyke: In a war situation, the first to seek truce is often suffering heavy losses and in need of restrategizing. They maybe running out of ammo.lol. That's when you go in for the kill! No retreat no surrender! Truce ko. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVqFY-TP54o Funny NLers. ![]() |
Musiwa2: Itsekiri own nearly half the land in delta state..Nice picture of the Kabiyesi. Thanks for this. I am following you, but I am not sure which satellite picture is causing all the chaos. Can you post it just so we understand. ![]() And to the posters challenging our cartographer extraordinaire, please show the Aare of Nairaland / Alaafin of Canada His due respect. A word is enough for the wise. I would hate to see his subjects, all the Politics section warriors, descend on you o. ![]() https://www.nairaland.com/679870/aare-musiwa-hot-form-look |

2mch: Guy, we know faith without work is nothing. But I can assure you that success without effort and hardwork before and after achieveing that goal is meaningless. I will advice you to stop going to these people that see visions and other things but still live in abject poverty. They are the real witches and destroyers of lives and family. In Nigeria with all your good results you have to grease some palms to get what you want. Focus on hustling for money to achieve your goals, forget frivolous things and leave visions alone. If God wanted you to know something he will have told you himself. Go and hustle and stop blaming everyone for not being in control of yourself and your destiny as a guy. Pray to God and believe in him ALONE. Not any pastor, or soothsayer! Anyone that sees visions needs mental help or is a demon out to destroy. Also with the women in your life fighting themselves, just ignore them and forge ahead. They are only doing what they want to do. You are a man, why involve yourself in catfights and gossip? Maintain a relationship with them, but don't entertain idle gossip or unnecessary insult from both. When you become successful, they will sort each other out as no one wants to lose out.Brilliant Post. Why do so many 'religious' people rely on others to communicate with their god for them? You need no intermediaries. It's a racket of epidemic proportions - these soothsaying pastors that've got Naijas by the short hairs. |
nobaga: There was a post here somewhere about a man that steals meat from the pot after eating. So what do we do about our wives that eat half of the meat while cooking?lol. Maybe she's: - stressed? - distracted? - hungry? - nervous? - all of the above? Give her some celery sticks to munch on while cooking and doing her chores. Those things are so nasty though; so don't be surprised if she throws them at your head. ![]() |
hmm I guess I'll need to return to this thread a bit later when I have time. I still don't really agree with you guys, though
No worries, Ekiti Panda Bear. ![]() Go ahead and ask your dad to reminisce about the days of OBJ from '76! Come back and break it down for us once you get the straight d.o.p.e. ![]() Katsumoto: You give OBJ too much credit. He is crafty self-serving monster.Ah! Good one. P.S. afam4eva: I want to believe that you're either Igbo or Efik/Ibibio.Well, I don't know what tribe of person would say, or even THINK, the below: cowgurl: On a lighter note, am praying I don't get married from my tribe so I don't go through all this embarrasment thingy with his peopleNot even funny. And, I was on her side at first. SMH. The girl is not serious at all. |

cap28:Hook me up as well. ![]() cap28: isale gan !!how you dey?Good, Blood! where have you been?I've been here. Just missing each other, I guess. I saw your battle with Katsumoto a few weeks ago. lol. You're 2 of my all-time favourite NLers, so take it easy o. I bet you two have more you agree on than what draws you apart. But, I enjoyed the 'debate' sha. ![]() |
faithin9ja: your usual anti-west, conspiracy clap trap.Language barrier is one reason, but not the only one, of course. Naijas clamour to go to an English speaking country before anything. |
So Ivory Coast is the highest ranked African country at no. 16, right? And, unless I missed it, I see no other in the top 30 - not even Ghana. |
I like OBJ. But while his actions were probably good overall for Nigeria as a whole, I'm not sure they were great for Yorubaland specifically. So, mixed feelings on the guy.
![]() |
It is such nonsense. Spiritual husband ko, spirited-away husband ni. Usually believed in by the sort of "bible-believing christians" who also believe in Abiku and child-witches. Weirdoes! |
I'm not watching that nonsense. So, how did a live chicken make its way into church if not put there for show? Rubbish choreographed fake pastoral healing! People are so desperate to believe every fake 'man of god' with a bible under his arm. SMH for Naija. |
https://www.nairaland.com/983074/2-okada-riders-jailed-enugu Is this what happened to ![]() Come to think of it, Kilode?! is not the only Knight of Isale's Round Table that is MIA. There are 11 more of those Never mind about their names. ![]() |
dasparrow: Oh yes I do. That is what I used in elementary school. Those were the good ole days. I miss the Nigeria of back then. No boko haram and bomb blasts. As children we played outside or went to hunt pidgeons. How did our current world become so bad Lord?what did you do with the pigeons once you caught them? on topic, i used that workbook, and never could figure out the drawing of the dude laying down. now, i'm more curious about the artist. btw, i don't know all these "ede. . . ere. . .iya kayode" crap you all are reciting. any lagosians in the house do that? hmmm. i'm scared i'll figure out it was ![]() |
afam4eva:fixed. p.s. i regret posting in this thread. i followed afam here from page2. no idea it had deteriorated into nonsense. ![]() mod, delete my post. ![]() |
Hmmm. Derailment into Tinubu related fisticuffs ensuing. . . ![]() Also, let S.L. Akintola rest in peace. I still have not seen any proof that the man did anything to turn back or arrest the progress of Yoruba people. My dad, a confirmed Awoist (but Tinubu-'hater') describes Akintola as a gentleman. Until I see conclusive evidence he did Yoruba wrong or behaved in a manner lacking the dignity that we expect from our true leaders, I have to agree with that assessment. The same cannot be said of the man we're discussing here tonight. OBJ is most certainly not an omoluabi. Actually, the word most often used to describe him is ika. ![]() |
mummy3: . . . .May be naija wasn’t so good o as at thenHmmm. Nope! ![]() microgiant: The exchange rate was N1 = 1Pound = $2.Someone should tell Cap28 about this thread. Hey, bro! ![]() |
cowgurl: . . .Let's share ideas peeps, do you think it's the kids, parents or society's fault for our inability to communicate in our dialects? The parents. |
nolongtin: Moin moinI am so hungry. About the tribalism in this thread, AljHarem did not start it. Bashir did. He misunderstood Ileke-Idi simply because of an oversight - she did not remember the Yoruba name for 'apon" and called it Ogbona soup. Obviously both Westerners and Easterners cook it, but call it different names. You folks better calm down. Good thread overall. |
