Ogu1156, u have said it all. Let them stop hiding behind certificates, thats what we want. Come out and prove urself with ur degree or HND; chikena!!! |
na u sabi oo!! na ur toro. |
Dakmanzero, i enjoyed programming with QBASIC, FORTRAN and PASCAL cos of their mathematical nature and ease to code, unlike COBOL where u write essays. It was one of the worst courses i did in my school days. Its difficult to compile a COBOL program without it flagging errors. there must be an error, and i use to wonder why. |
Polytechnics/HND in nigeria is different from polytechnics/HND in europe and america. In nIgeria it takes 5 years to get HND while in so many countries its 2 or 3 years; so there must be a difference in the HND curriculum in nigeria from those who spend just 2 or 3 years in other countries. |
na d problem wey u get be dat. U think say na u sabi english pass. My friend whether u,re a british or a briton dats ur own o, what i'm saying is; this is only a forum for discussion and not a company where people submit applications for employment. So dont try to teach people what they know already. After all Seun has not employed you to be our english Teacher in this forum. Who do you think will submit a CV or application for employment that is not well structured or that contains errors and mistakes? Take it or leave it u must make mistakes and errors as a result of punching the keyboard to pass ur message across. Dont use that to judge or castigate people. If na here dem dey submit the application tell us make we know now, so dat we no go allow even one mistake to dey inside message wey we dey send. But for discussion purpose there must be mistakes and errors. After all peple use short hand symbols to communicate and pass messages; would u call that errors/mistakes because it is not written in A,B,C, ? |
Celemel or whats that ur name again; why u dey correct people grammer? Are u a British? See the one wey u throw now people don search dictionary tire dem no fit see the meaning. Dont condemn people because of what they key in with their fingers from the keyboard; getting and understanding the message is what matters most. More over no body is above making mistakes. |
Getting a Bsc is not what matters now, but getting a job. Dont we have people with only WASC/GCE that are gainfully employed? I beg we should stop decieving our selves about holding this Degree or the other. So many people have Degrees and are still not employed. Na lie? This issue does not affect HND holders alone but also affects people with Bsc, MSc, MBA etc. No decieve ur self come go turn to Baba for school. Who go sponsor u sef? Self employment is better jo, try it and see. |
One of my lecturers back then in school, Dr , taught us techniques he learnt or was taught in the 60's & 70's. One of my coursemate brought a notebook from home on that course that his unlce used as a student in UNN in the early 70's and we were very comfortable to use that notebook to study becos it contained almost everything the Doctor was teaching us in this new millenium. Can u imagine that!! |
There are no jobs in nigeria thats what brought about all these discriminations against HND holders. Today its not only HND o! even Degree holders have their own discrimination given to them; like 2.1 or 1st class degrees only, grad of state or private uni need not apply, only grad of fed uni shld apply; or grad of unilag, UI, Ife, ABU and UNN only; and all that. My advice is, if you cannot set up a small biz and manage it well, since you think its only Bsc holders that get the jobs, kindly go back to a university and get the Bsc certificate as someone suggested; but that is not a guarantee that you will get a job. Also remember that some HND holders are gainfully employed and are doing well. Dont go to any state or private university o! be warned!!! |
My guy you got a 3rd class and u,re feeling bad and complaining!! What do u want people like Bill Gates to say? Remember he does not even have a Degree not to talk of class of Degree; but today he's the world's richest man. Dont give up please. |
Those guys are out to make money jo. They just established a very good biz. |
2good, we are not rebels. Attending a university does not make u better or more skillful than those of us that attended polytechnics; abi you think say u better pass us? prove yourself to people that you are an Engineer by doing what Engineers do and stop parading yourself as an Engineer simply because you have a Degree in Engineering. After all People pay money to get Degrees in nigeria; na lie? Would you call such people with Degrees in Engineering (bought with money) Engineers? |
All polytechnics in nigeria do that. Yoy must do all these maths courses before getting HND computer science in nigeria. Pally nigerian polytechnics are not what you think o; practicals and academic work are combined together. I use to use the same maths text books with university BEng guys when i was in the polytechnic to study and to do my assignments. I use to teach some of them what they dont know and needed to know. Pally the whole idea boils down on individual skills and not you going to poly or uni. |
Pfowighz, no wahala, we are still together. Its just that you need to see d mathematical courses they do in nigerian polytechnics in computer science. Logic & Linear algebra Trigonometry & analytical geometry Elementary probability theory Descriptive statistics Calculus Numerical methods Operational Research 1 & 2 Advanced calculus Advanced Algebra Statistical Theory 1 & 2 And they are compulsory courses; coupled with programming. Dont u think these are enough to make u mathematically/theoretically skillful? |
Dakmanzero, i got ur points. How comes u hated COBOL and enjoyed FORTRAN? Its like we had the same minds in school then. I only did COBOL cause it was a compulsory course for me; but i never liked it, although i wrote some COBOL programs then but i never liked the english-like structure of the language. |
Lets try EFCC; after all them no dey look face. If u cannot defend ur cert they weed you out. |
dakmanzero, i hope u,re not offended by my words? i dont mean to make u look stupid in any way. infact if there is any body that has made this forum interesting and lively, then it's you. I must say that i ve really come to understand a lot of things arguing with u guys on this forum. Please dont stay away, i,m enjoying ur contributions. Cheers. |
every one has to defend his certificate o. if you cannot defend your certificate we will weed you out. |
I trust you, they must pay oo. The other battle has been won already. We should be looking ahead to fighting and winning the next one; which is giving priority to science, technology and engineering, but must be BTech/BEng or HND o!!. Na there we go know who be who. Those guys have been hiding behing certificates. We go soon bring all of them out. please use ur good position to recommend that to govt, and if it works u will not be able to see poly JAMB form to buy for ur child if u did nt go in time because it will be over subscribed. |
Pfowighz, have u ever studied computer science in any polytechnic in nigeria before? How comes u know that there wont be enough mathematical/theoretical skills to grab in the poly? Try and get the course curriculum for ND/HND computer science from NBTE and see for urself. Stop degrading polytechnics. After all some one earlier said that he is working as a programmer for a big IT company with just ND in computer science; where did he get the skills from? Enough maths courses dey there u hear? |
dakmanzero, ok na you win. you can argue no be small. na u sabi programming pass; we agree. No body has been able to say anything on this issue that pleases you. Why is it so? Is it that other guys are not well learned or skilled in programming like you? |
hahahahaha, HND-holder, u are funny. Anyway sha the political game was well played by people like you. Kudos!! Very soon the govt will soon be giving priority to people with technical background especially graduates from universities of technology and polytechnics in science, technology and engineering courses. That means to say people with 4 years Bsc/BA will no longer have the opportunity to be ahead of technologists. Make una start fight that one now oo. After all we need more technologists and engineers in the country now. What will then happen is that people with Bsc/BA from conventional universities will start from level 08 in the civil service while people with BTech/BEng/HND in science/Technology and engineering courses will start from level 09. How about that? I know u guys can play that game and win. Laffs!!!! hahahahahahahaha. Why BA History, BA Hausa, BA Yoruba and so on go dey start from level 08 with scienctists & technologists sef? sebi OBJ say sociology and masscomm no get significance to the nation! HAHAHAHAHA. Make una try enact that one again, u go see how people go dey rush to buy poly forms. Hahahahahahahahaha. |
No mind dem. Some people are hiding behind certificates. They will soon be exposed. shame go catch dem. |
2good, u dont talk like a rational man. I,m in doubt of ur so called BSc in chemical engineering; why is it not a BEng? Pally 4get this thing some of you are hiding behind BSc when obviously you dont merit it. Who has told you that you will get a good job b4 people with HND? a lot of guys with HND are gainfully employed and are heads of dept/unit in their companies. Things will change very soon my guy; infact things ve started changing, and you will not be able to supervise guys with HND again. Some ED's and MD's of big nigerian companies have HND. We will soon know who is who!! No hide behind certificate o! come out and prove urself and ur degree or HND or what ever qualification u claim to have acquired. |
SBUCAREER, thanx men. I understand and agree with ur points. |
hahahahahahahaha, HND-holder you go kill person oo. no body knows when Jesus christ will come back. But i stronly believe things will change soonest. Most of us with HND are already feeling the good coming. OBJ's pronouncement is little hope at least, and it is better than no hope at all. NBTE are already making arrangement with some universities in UK to accept nigerian HND certificate direct for Msc programs there, and so on. So hope still dey!! |
I hear you. Every body has what he/she likes. |
Please o, HND holders should not go to hell simply because banks and other companies refuse to give them jobs. With the scarcity of jobs in nigeria i advice holders of HND certificates in nigeria to try and be enterpreneurs or self-employed rather than doing nothing or sitting idle waiting for white collar jobs that never come. After all HND holders ve the enterpreneurship skills and knowledge to be self employed. I ve HND too and i,m working but under-employed simply because i hold HND certificate. But that does not mean i should go to hell. I will soon be an employer very soon, by God's grace. Just start any biz no matter how little it is, it will surely grow big one day. Cheers!! |
2good, getting a Bsc is not what bothers HND holders. We will not go to get any BSc; after all obasanjo has settled that issue. You and your cohort looked down at people with HND and discriminated against them in Nigeria. The end of all those nonsense has come. Check out the latest NNPC vacancy advert it is HND/BSC. My advice to u people is to stop hiding behind paper qualifications. We will soon know who is who!!. |
Dakmanzero, you don’t need to discourage people. What you feel is the best for you could be the worst thing ever to some other persons. A lot of guys still develop applications with older languages like FORTRAN, COBOL, PASCAL and QBASIC; and they do it well; they love what they do cos that is what they want. |
While asking government to scrap polytechnic education in Nigeria lets wait and see what will happen to polytechnics and HND holders in some months to come. May be things will become favourable for them. |
Niterider, I no blame you. Your English teacher died in time thatz why u don’t understand simple English. Our argument is based on HND and Bsc certificates in Nigeria and not globally. If you want to go by it globally, then HND and Bsc certificates differ from country to country. In Nigeria its 5 years for HND, 4 years for BA/Bsc, 5 years for BTech/BEng. In Britain HND is 2 yrs while BA/Bsc is 3 years. |
