Family › Should Women Lose Their Individuality In Marriage? by Ivynwa(op): 9:00pm On Aug 02, 2011
This topic emanated from the Jlo/Marc Split which seems to have been caused by the overbearing attitude of one of them. I have seen threads here that have discussed the issue of a woman earning more than her man etc but this is different, this is about a woman being allowed to be herself in marriage and not pretend and hide some good things because the man does not want to hear that she has a mind of her own as to mention wanting to do those things. This is the umpteenth time I am hearing women in such marriages wanting out and saying that they refuse to compromise but will rather be themselves. We are not advocating that people leave their marriages just wondering whether it won't be great if husbands allow their wives to be real and wives allow their husbands to be real too. It may even save the increasing rate of divorce.

Methinks that a woman should not lose her individuality in marriage, a woman should be allowed to be herself even when married to a man. She should still have the right to dream, aspire and be what she wants to be. I know this couple that are both professionals and were having this great problem because the woman is building a house and the man does not want her to, he wants her salary stashed in his account for him to use and do what he wants and wants to build with.  This is a woman that her family spent all they have on to have her graduate as a doctor and now that she is earning good and decided to repay her family with a little shelter and her husband does not want to hear that. What is that? Should a woman stop aspiring because now she is married and her individuality has been hidden and taken over by her man? I have even heard of women who build houses, buy properties and make big investments behind the backs of their husband, this is because the men do not allow them to do that.

Years ago I went to render a hand or two to a friend of my mum whose son was wedding and as I was seated with some women, a wife of a certain business mogul narrated how she built a house for her family without her husband knowing. It was supposed to be a secret but she only spilled it because another woman in our midst then was acting up "that her husband is richer than everybody and spends lots of money on her" and when she left the gathering this rich man's wife began to diss her and was like "look at this one that has not achieved anything" that is when she started spilling her own secret.  Men ought to know by now that hushing up your wife and enclosing her and her aspirations can even make her strive to achieve them in secrecy and at a greater cost compared to when there is an understanding on both sides.

The same goes for a man, some men don't feel free in their marriage because their wives wants them moulded in a certain kind of way. Many wives won't hear of their men spending time out with friends or hanging out and having fun with others. We always hear some bad notes attached to some life stories here of husband going to a club or going out for drinks etc I heard a young man lamenting the other day in this forum about his fears of getting imprisoned in his oncoming marriage and I simply told him not to have that notion of marriage or it may give him hypertension and fears as he was already having. All these hide and seek in marriage should not be, men and women should be free inside marriage. Free to be themselves.

Nobody should be restricted from enjoying their life fully.  I mean if a woman should not be allowed to aspire and be what she wants to be, why was she given her own brain, thinking faculty, drives etc like a man has too. Men should start chilling a bit in marriage and letting us women be ourselves please, the same thing applies to women. That will make marriage sweet and very freeing with no one feeling imprisoned. Couples can have their joint accounts and plans for their family but individuality should still be maintained and a woman can be allowed her own different accounts by the side with which to handle other good stuffs she may want to do. Her success is still the success of her husband and her children. I know some men won't have that, some are too scared of their wife being more successful to tolerate that, i guess that is why some men are very comfortable with a stay-at-home wife but let the stay-at-home wife get into a business and starts getting successful and discomfort will set in, some can even kill a woman for that.

What is your take on this topic dearie?

UPDATES! UPDATES! UPDATES!

More muke muke are trickling into the NL Grapevine concerning our thread. JLo had an interview with Vanity fair where she opened up about the separation. You can read it up in this link and hurry up with it too because there's a lovely pics of Jlo there to feast your eyes on.

It's like our girl was getting too uncomfortable by the day. Poor dear! All this marriage talk can be nicy nicy to talk about but how about that aspect of it that nobody talks about it? The part about most women losing their individuality inside it all, it's only once in a while you see some celebrity ladies suddenly emerge from it all (like a person in a pool quickly gets up and shakes off water) and they do that because their riches and society gives them the courage and freedom to say "Hey, I want to be me here and don't care what anybody says".

Methinks that a woman should not lose her individuality in marriage, a woman should be allowed to be herself even when married to a man. It's a commendable effort to keep the environment clean but the price seems much. I am surprised that nobody is mentioning the fact that some dirty persons with no conscience can reuse dirty old bottles to bottle drinking water for the masses. It's not impossible Pips!

The main issue here is cleanliness, what should be done is to make noise about "No littering" and have adverts and programmes instilling and enforcing the "No littering" clean habit in everybody, that way the environment is clean. This business set up thing looks good but will it really work? Are satchets all the dirts there are to keep away from the environment?

You saw a shirt worth 97 naira since you don't have cash, you borrowed 50 from your Mom and 50 from your Dad, So you have 100naira since the shirt is 97naira So you have 3 naira left, you returned 1 naira to your Mum and 1 naira to your Dad and you  left 1 naira for urself. Now you owe your Mum 49 naira and your Dad 49naira soo 49+49=98 plus the 1 naira wif u 99 97 naira WHERE IS THE MISSING NAIRA? you have the cost of the shirt
@Mod, i don't know where to post this, so you can take it to where you think it's appropriate.
The crux of your brain muddling tactics is the use of plus instead of minus because the 1naira you paid yourself is within the whole 98 you got from mum and dad so you threw people off with that.
All you worked with is 98, bought shirt 97 kept 1 naira so blimey! Money is intact with non missing.
Jokes Etc › Re: Please, Who Can Solve This Puzzle? by Ivynwa(f): 6:14pm On Jul 29, 2011
It's simple, you only complicated it to muddle the brain up.
Now let's solve it
If you borrowed 50naira each from mum and dad and returned 1naira to both of them, that means that all you borrowed from them is 49 each.
Okay 49+49= 98
You bought a shirt for 97naira and kept 1 naira  which still equals 98. So you see there's no missing naira because what you worked with is 98 because 2naira was returned from the original 100naira. There you are. Ivynwa claps We got you at your own game!

It was disgusting to see this in CNN, a country where others are terrorizing the whole nation with bomb blasts, where religious groups arise and fall upon others who don't believe as they do, where tribes arise and fall upon others because they want to be kings forever. A country where many are hungry, where jobless youths have given the nation bad reputation, where there is no law much more order and all this president can think about is how to elongate tenure.
He seems to be forgetting that a revolution is sweeping across our world, he should be praying that the Nigerian people don't arise to revolt when he is still in power. Somebody should tell him to go to work and give order to the people because that is what he is being paid to do.

Health › Re: My Wife Is A Possesed, Every Child Born By Her Dies Before Age 1 by Ivynwa(f): 10:27pm On Jul 25, 2011
The probability of this being a medical problem may be more than the spiritually believed one. I don't believe in all these amazing powers we ascribe to things and exalting some dirty looking old men in some village as having great powers when they are unable to rescue themselves from poverty in the first place yet there is no denying the fact that evil forces lurk around. If the wife has those fetish dealings she should go for deliverance  and they should also look at the many medically explained causes of child mortality like the Rhesus Factor issues etc
Marriage should not be carelessly broken with piles and heaps of blames when the problems therein may have been solved if the right channel of solving the problem is followed. Time has moved and the world is so developed that people shouldn't pack up on their marriages and blame it on the gods.
This couple should not sit at home and frustrate & depress over themselves. They should go to seek the counselling, examination and advice of good doctors as well as be strong in prayers.  The doctors in the house/NL should advise this man before he chases his wife out of their matrimonial home.
I saw these very explanatory write-ups on the Rhesus factor and decided to post the links below

http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-rhesus-factor.htm
The Rhesus factor, also known as the Rh factor, gets its name from experiments conducted in 1937 by scientists Karl Landsteiner and Alexander S. Weiner. These revolutionary case studies involved rabbits which, when injected with the Rhesus monkey's red blood cells, produced an antigen present in the red blood cells of many humans. The Rhesus factor is an antigen, or more specifically a protein, that exists on the surface of red blood cells.

There are four general categories of blood: A, B, O, and AB. Each blood type is further labeled as positive or negative, which is a reference to the Rhesus factor of the blood. People with the Rhesus factor, that is, people with the antigen present in their blood, are Rh-positive. So a person who has a blood type of A and has the Rhesus factor is said to have A-positive, or A+, blood. More than 85% of people are Rh-positive. People without the Rhesus factor, that is, people that don't have the antigen in their blood, are Rh-negative.
A person's Rh type is generally significant only with respect to pregnancies. Specifically, a Rh-positive child born to an Rh-negative woman runs the risk of developing Rh disease. Only Rh-negative women risk having children with the Rhesus factor disease; Rh-positive women do not. So, for a Rh-negative woman to have a Rh-positive child, the father must have been Rh-positive. A Rh-positive man has a 50% chance of passing on his Rh-positive blood type to the child.

If the mother is Rh-negative and the child is Rh-positive, and the child's blood enters the woman's bloodstream during the pregnancy, labor, or delivery, the woman's immune system may respond by producing antibodies to fight off the child's antigens which are foreign to the woman's system. That is, the woman's body may naturally produce antibodies which attack the baby's blood, causing the baby's red blood cells to break down. The result of this incompatibility will not affect the health of the mother but it can affect the child's health. Potential health problems include jaundice, anemia, brain or heart damage, and in severe cases Rh disease can be fatal.
The Rhesus factor is less likely to affect the first-born child because the woman's system will have had less time and is therefore less likely to produce the antibodies to fight off the antigens in the child's Rh-positive blood. If the woman has become sensitized, that is, her immune system responded by producing antibodies, those antibodies will be present in her system for the rest of her life. Therefore, disparate Rhesus factor types between a woman and her child can increase the potential for Rh disease in each subsequent pregnancy.
Preventative measures to protect against the Rhesus factor disease and their devastating effects are available. Women should be tested early in their first pregnancies to determine whether they are Rh-negative and whether they are sensitized. Sensitization may not only occur through normal pregnancies, but at any time a woman and her child's blood mix, including miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, and blood transfusions.

If a woman is Rh-negative, and has not yet been sensitized, she will likely be given an injection of a blood product known as Rh immunoglobulin (Rhlg) at about seven months into the pregnancy. This should prevent sensitization for the rest of the pregnancy. The Rhlg shot seeks to destroy any antigens present in the bloodstream before the mother is able to create antibodies. Additionally, it is generally recommended that the newborn be tested for his or her Rhesus blood type. If the child is positive, the mother is often given another Rhlg shot shortly after birth to prevent her from becoming sensitized. Rhlg injections only last for a given pregnancy. Subsequent pregnancies will likely require separate Rhlg injections.
If the woman is Rh-negative and has been sensitized, the Rhlg injection will not help. Close monitoring of the baby should be conducted to ensure that Rh disease is not developing. Blood transfusions to replace the diseased blood with healthy blood may be given during or after delivery depending on the circumstances

My sister "knowing a lil bit of self defence" helps women. I am that type of person that can't use a knife on another person and laughs off at stories of people carrying about lil stuffs like pen knife and tiny knives along with them and in their cars while going to work or places, I will be like "why have a knife on me when I can't cut anybody" and after I heard the story of a woman that defended herself from a r-apist taxi man with the help of a tiny knife she had hidden in her bag, I came to understand the importance. Not that I can have the heart to cut now, I still don't bother with such things but they can be helpful.

Can you imagine that the taxi-man-ra-pist I mentioned stopped this woman (that boarded his taxi on her way home in the night) along a highway and forced her to perform oral s-e-x on him? The woman acted as though she is agreeing with him and while bending down dug her knife into his stomach and ran out of the car leaving him bleeding from his stomach. He was lucky to get help to the hospital and I don't know whether he survived that but the woman was hailed in the dailies. She defended herself and even saved her life because the newest thing nowadays is that rapists kill after their act to protect themselves. One must be alert Ojare.

Yeah, yeah what do you think of that fast/sharp and gallant move by Murdoch's wife to save him from an attacker 3 days ago during the hearing in which Murdoch and son James were being interrogated about allegations of phone hacking? I casually glanced at the hearing like twice or thrice on that day and got busy with other things, the woman sitting like a hawk behind Murdoch actually caught my aattention. I didn't even know that she is the wife thought that she is part of his entourage or something. There is no doubt that that woman had a striking presence and appearance there and when I later heard her gallant moves in the media yesterday, I was not surprised that such action came from such a woman. She sure got it!

Below is an excerpt from one of the sites that reported it and a video of her gallant moves. All hail smart-alec Wendi! it sure pays to be alert.

Rupert and Wendi Murdoch were true to character Tuesday when she went from the statuesque, socialite wife of a media mogul to a protective spouse with a steady right hook, according to Murdoch biographer Michael Wolff.
"I thought, 'That's our Rupert and that's our Wendi,'" Wolff told ABC News of his reaction to the couple's behavior during the otherwise solemn parliamentary hearing.
"She's kind of fearless, actually," he said of Wendi Deng Murdoch.
In an unexpected twist of events at the hearing Tuesday in which Murdoch and son James were peppered with questions about allegations of phone hacking, Murdoch's wife was the first to jump to her husband's side as an attacker threw what looked like a shaving-cream pie in the News Corp. chairman and CEO's face.
Wearing a pink suit jacket, video footage shows Deng, 42 and married to the 80-year-old Murdoch for 12 years, jump up and lunge after the attacker faster than anyone, taking an open-handed swing at the man who was arrested shortly thereafter.

"That doesn't surprise me. She's fairly feisty," said Eric Ellis, who wrote a detailed profile on Deng for the Monthly in June 2007. "I think it was an instinctive reaction that anyone would have … looking after her partner."

It is true that people come in here with fake stories but we have to be careful at walking on the hearts of a troubled person out of the suspicion that he/she is fake. I read the past posts of this poster and it seems to me that there is a probability that he is 60% real and simply expressing a burden in his heart.

@Poster
I am only hoping that it isn't the frustration of your kids dying that had you thinking and accusing her of that. Some couples can get frustrated and go to the extreme of accusing each other of the unprintables. If it's sheer frustration do continue being prayerful, couples get blessed after many years of misfortunes with birthing issues.

Did you say that she really told you so---that she is----- (I don't even want to mention those dirty fetish things biko)? It sounds unbelievable but if that is so, it's a pity that it's not in my place to tell you what to do here. I only feel much for the pain you are going through for losing your babies, it hurts to lose loved ones. Do accept my sympathy.

I had lots of respect for Yar adua and was touched when he passed away but these bits of info are confirming that his family made fools of Nigerians out of their greediness and power drunkenness, for all we know he might have died out of the country etc
Kudos to the courageous persons that arose and saw that the law of the land was enforced. Right now I have no atom of respect left for them and their we-gotta-rule-forever friends and sycophants.

I'm a jehovah's witness and am dating a muslim but not a fanatics. He would'nt mind me practicing my religion while he practices his. His dad is a muslim and his mum is an evangelist of the CAC. My fear is that his mum might be against us because i'm a witness although she pleaded with her son to try and marry a christian. As for my family, i wou'nt have problem as long as i promise to remain a witness after marriage. As for the kids, they can choose which part to follow when they grow up. Do you think the relationship will survive?
What we think do not matter here, it is not in our place to say whether it will survive or not. Couples of the same religion sometimes break up too, if both of you agree on that and work on your marriage it can work for you guys. A very mature nairalander has once mentioned that he is a muslim and his wife is a christian and that he drops his wife in church and attends his own service in the mosque.
Its a beautiful thing seeing Nigerians with such tolerance of one another's religion, such people like you guys are unique and hard to come by. It's a different level of maturity altogether.

Maybe the question shouldav been 'what has the Politics section contributed to Nigeria', which BTW is nothing apart from being an avenue for frustrated Nigerians to vent. Maybe it should be called the 'Rant and Rave' section!
grin grin
Nnaa M-e-e-e-n, wetin you wan make the poor masses do if not vent out.
Methinks that this website have lots of useful info and that some stuffs in here are educative. Some quality posters are great and nice to rub minds with too. I have read where young nairalanders really testify that their eyes have been opened by some info and life lessons they have learnt here. It is good if it is helping guide the young ones.

I believe the dialogue and discourse that we engage in challenges each others world views, ideas and makes us all understand each other a bit better.
Yeah, yeah it's helping integration to some extent.
If the site isn't contributing to the politics much now as some posters here think it has a great potential to do so soon. It's a great site with great potential, I am happy for the brains behind it. There is nothing as beautiful as venturing into something and watching it become a success.

pendo89:
lol. Are you in a cage? My dear marriage life is supposed to be happy/fun not like living in a cage.
It requires both your efforts to spice it up.The biggest mistake people do is stop dating each other the moment they marry.
You stop going out and doing all the nice things you used to do together during courtship.
Suddenly routine creeps in, you get used to each other, you bore each other to death because there are no more suprises!!
Romance flows out of the window and you are reduced to a worker! while he becomes a couch potato with remote in hand!
There's nothing to miss 'out there' Did you not run away from the 'out' life to settle in marriage?
You r the lady! be creative and go out together, meet other couples. You are now ONE remember so you are not thinking as 'I' but as 'WE'
And nobody is using you to decorate anything!! hey its your house/home and you want it to look good!! dont you?
All women do this. Its part of being a woman and the very reason he married you! cz you are good in housekeeping.
Take is an added advantage and stop whining!
Organise a getaway and invite him.
Pendo gave you good advice here, if you want things exciting and interesting you shouldn't fold your hands, do nothing and sulk that "it's boring in here". Work at it and discuss with him too for him to know that you are feeling as if you guys are in a rut, that you want things to be pepped up and you will go to work. You have many resources in your hand to spice up things with.

Your phone- can send him sweet text while he is at work, sexy and hot pictures of you, you can even send him such texts & pictures that can arouse him to such boiling point that he will be grabbing you by the time he gets to the door on coming back home from work. Your phone can speak sweet nothings to him and make phone love to him if you two are open to it. Stir it up!

Your laptop can send him lovely things- order romantic stuffs, lingerie, getaways. Send him romantic songs, music videos etc, find new sex positions online and excitedly send it to him at work or something telling him that you guys are gonna work it out that style, keep him excited and guessing what next you may be coming up with and evrybody is excited and happy and you are no more feeling bored. Your laptop can also find romantic poems if you can't one and make him feel on top of the world with them.

Your kitchen and dining- get creative, get out of the normal. Re-decorate the dining. Your laptop can also help you here, help you find recipes through sites like www.kraftrecipes.com and even the NL food section can give you recipes to blow his mind with. There is no rule that says that it's only jollof rice, white rice & stew(naija tomato sauce), fried rice, bitterleaf, egusi,Okro, beans, yam, potato etc that there are to rotate and cook for the household. Find new things and unique sauces for your rice, unique salads etc When you can afford to dine out and relax in the open air, go watch games, go dancing. Am I the only one that feels on top of the world when I'm out relaxing in the open air (an unenclosed place like a football field, outdoor restaurant, outdoor gym etc)? It's very sweetly refreshing.

Your Body- you are a woman and you already know how to work your body and keep it neat and sexy looking for him. Connect with him in unique ways like a special naughty wink and signs for him across the room in the midst of other people. Don't get into the groove and stress of daily living and forget to be working your body with a good hip swing and nice walkings for him (catwalk sef if you know how to)  wink kiss.

Your bedroom
- Move things around in the bedroom, change the draperies, bedsheets, douse his bedsheets with perfs. When you go down with him, go dutty too. Get new sex ideas, have your lil wardrobe of very sexy stockings, Intimate lingerie, corsets, boots, leather gloves, heels, suspenders. Hey! those lovely feminine stuffs are not meant for p-orn stars alone biko. Make love in different places and rooms like the kitchen, bath, garage (with the kids out of sight of course). Get the blue movies in (if he is down with it too) yet ensure that it is used decently and that none of you gets addicted to p-orn. Hey! if you can afford to fix a pole in your bedroom, do so and pole-dance for him(you can get movies and learn to work your curves and entice him twisting and dancing on a pole).

I mean get wild and naughty for him, he is your husband isn't he? One website that can help you with naughty romantic ideas is www.cosmopolitan.com etc (they even have ideas on creative sex positions for each day) and a whole library of wild naughty stuffs. Note that you need his co-operation here so that you won't have him feeling like or thinking that you are getting your ideas from a new lover or something. I am not saying that you go on a shopping spree and spend out all your resources to get sexy, use what you have and if you have to spend, spend within your means. You may have been doing most of these, you can add and minus to take monotony out of it all. I know that some may read this and start getting on but wait! we all have this beautiful feelings so why not enjoy it to the max in your marriage as well as celebrate your husband and have him feeling like your super star?   tongue tongue tongue kiss cool

The list is endless, just dedicate 5 mins looking for stuffs online to spice up your marriage with and you will be amazed at the great things you have under your nose but ain't using to take the rut out of things. Go rock your marriage girl, it's your Life!    grin cool kiss grin kiss

I think no one has a right to condemn no one because God's ways are not our ways. You do not know how she lived her life before getting to this point and you do not know what relationship she had with God before getting to this point. THat is so between her and God. Everyone seems to be acting like the people who told Jesus they needed to stone the adulterous woman but Jesus replied and said "he who has no sin should throw the first stone".
Let us all examine our lives and "take heed lest we fall"
Exactly my point, God's ways are not our ways, these conceptions of hell and heaven that we are all having here on earth is not what we will see after life. We are only imagining with our human brain and judging and castigating with our human mind.

I heard you sweetheart, hurry up and go give our wifey some sweet loving. We ain't in a court of law deciding where our friend will spend her eternity. Let's leave that to God if there is really anything like heaven or hell.

I know that some judgemental and quick to castigate ones among us will be surprised after life when we all get to know the real truth behind all these religious talk we are all getting. My own is just to do good and believe in God because to me I believe he exists but as per all these two H(heaven and hell) talks people are quick to categorize others into, I have outgrown that. Yes, I don't believe in that. I don't care who hears that.
