Travel › Re: COVID-19: Onyeama Says 200 US-based Nigerians Are Willing To Be Evacuated by Izigha(m): 6:49am On Apr 09, 2020 |
linearity: Far easier to survive in Nigeria than in the US, if you are undocumented and have no work.
With the current pandemic and various orders to stay at home, undocumented immigrants are finding it hard to cop abroad.
Despite the fact that you are not working, landlord still expect his or her rent at the end of the month and failure to pay means eviction....plus with the Trump presidency, the worst case is to be picked up by ICE and thrown into a jail where the chances of contracting the disease are higher.....so, given those odds, the chance of a free ride back to Nigeria with a few platitudes from the FG on arrival or at the end of the 14 days quarantine sounds very appealing. Not really, 200 that is too small. Do know how Nigerians in Queens alone. California have put a freeze on evictions, other states will follow. These are Nigeria big boys and children of big men that get stuck in US. Visiting or on study leave. No huzzler will leave US to Nigeria because of Corona virus. Put a small ad on punch today that you are processing US visas and see the thousands of people that will call you |

Why now? Just want to make a whole nation sad again. Soccer is a team sports, apart from the goal keeper one coach or one single player can't sell a match. I watch the game in a crowded bar in La Rambla after the game the whole bar was shocked and quite, all the people there. I was like a zombie and my wallet was stolen. This guy should park well |

abbey621: It's the samething, 100,000 dollars in 1994 had the purchasing power of 1,000,000 dollars today. I've lived in the USA half of my life and my father's first property was bought for $20,000, same property was sold in 2014 for $189,000. So many more examples, think inflation, compund interest and opportunity cost. Another scenario, use that 100,000 to buy shares of Apple in 1994, today it would be worth well over 1 million dollars. There are plenty more examples but you get the gist. Investment valuation is not the same as money or currency valuation vis a vis time. Your father may have add value to the house. The overall economy may have overvalued real estate. Apple add value to the company every year. What if you have bought ken lay Enron shares of $100000 when the company was ridding, today the shares will be worthless. |

abbey621: Ultimately we are still talking about purchasing power, 100k dollars in 1994 gave you the purchasing power of about a million today regardless of geolocation. Whether it is properties, food items or services, yes inflation is a huge factor so are opportunity costs and the global market. The dollar is stong but it is no match for these factors which are constantly present in every country. Guys stop, the dollar is not naira. There are foriengers in this forum |

No pictorial evidence has shown any truck or a single of its parts scattered anywhere around that scene...
And to think people still take that story seriously is annoying I feel you, we have been so used to being lied to that not believing anything in the news or official statement is now the default. But sometimes we still have to put on our analytic hat. Boko haram commanders are not stupid, and if you are a commander in boko haram that want to bomb Ondo state will you bomb an empty road? What will the government gain in hiding a meteorite that hit Ondo state? |

Politics › Re: Akure Explosion: I Didn't Know There're Explosives In My Truck, Truck Driver by Izigha(m): 4:26pm On Apr 02, 2020 |
The easiest explanation is usually the correct one. The only lie here will be that the driver know very well what was in the truck. This might be dynamite belonging to a mining company, because they were packed together and the direction of the blast was downwards hence the crater. The shock waves dnt level the buildings, it was just the roofs, anyone that is just away from the immediate area of the blast can survive with some injuries |

Frankenstein: I don't think you understand what a cure is.
For malaria, you take ACT to kill the parasite and get cured. For catarrh and cough, you take cough syrups and septrin to TREAT the symptoms and reduce its severity while the virus runs its course.
The same applies for COVID-19. A cocktail of drugs are administered to help with symptoms which might not work the same for every infected person. There's no cure. Our hope now would be a vaccine. Another cash cow for big pharmatical company as vaccine change every year |

Christianity Etc › Is Pastor Adeboye Growing A Conscience? by Izigha(op): 9:25pm On Mar 30, 2020 |
Religion is the belief and worship of a god. Although Karl Marx said "ist das opium des volkes" if you cant translate that, google it am not a teacher. I read a quote that the GO Redeemed said the current covid-19 will kill those whose time has come to die. If you think about it, is that not destiny or fate. Is the GO now preaching Destiny? What happen to dwelling under the shadow of the almighty, cover by the blood of Jesus, calling upon me on the day of trouble? For a full disclosure, am not a religious person, am too selfish to give 10% of my money to anyone - maybe my mother, but I know the subject and I am not bashing the GO personally as I know he is a father to millions. I am just looking at this statement- before he will deny it like all Nigeria leaders do - from a social economic point of view. I believe you have to ignore any sense of right and wrong (conscience) to be very successful in a capitalistic world, be it a pastor, a lawyer, a politician or a yahoo boy, because that N500, or that $100 a maga or client want to give you may have been money for bread or school fees. Here is my conundrum, if the GO is now preaching Destiny that is bad market for him and other faith preachers. Churches have grown in Nigeria because of faith base preaching. That our lot in life can change for the better thru faith, praying and paying of tithes. If people start believing in destiny, that what will be will be, why will they continue to fork over their 10%. Is the GO having a rethink? |

Focusingmore: More identity politics, stricter immigration rules, supply chains will be moved closer to home, stock market will rebound , automation in the west.
China will thrive and look for other markets. Nigeria will remain the same but with higher levels of poverty due to lower oil prices and devaluation.
Poverty ... More crimes, societal disfunction, continued bad governance, the churches will cash out and people will become more stupid. That's my fear. Another rise of nationalism |
