Altern8: Obasanjo was not the major candidate of the Yorubas. That’s public knowledge. He was the candidate of the North. Besides, the context for my statement was “unanimous support” or “block votes”.
I was seeking to establish that we Yorubas don’t just endorse anyone and give them block votes. Every major contender has a chance here.
What is middle belt these days by the way? They are North Central. And they don’t go about trying to guilt trip people into giving them the presidency on a platter, saying they are hated and have been cheated or whatever innuendo promoted by some prominent clannish South Easterners. So we can say it's fair enough if only the South west and North East rules the country back to back, after all, no other union can make up their numbers? Abi? |

Sirwallace: Sir, even within states, some sregion who dont play their card very well dont get to the governorship seat. I know of Lagos and Ogun state. We all so how Ambode an Epe man was disgraced by his own people in the governorship primary in Lagos.
Contrary to what you inferred, any region or group can become president if and only they gather support from all region. If the middle belt, south south and east play the politics right, trust me nothing will stop them from emerging president in the future. Tinubu has always zoned it within regions. You should find out about that. He even regulates it among religion. That why a Sanwo Olu will be the governor, and Hamzat(who is stronger politically) will be his deputy
Like I said, since both the west and north have such partnership, everyone should just watch them rule us Abi? You haven't answered that |

Sirwallace: Other region too can make such loyalty to get the numbers but I doubt if that numbers can outnumber the other two regions. In other words, if Tinubu rules in 2023 to whenever, he will conveniently hand over to a Northerner and the cycle goes on because no other region has such partnership? Hear yourself sir
Even in your individual states, you still allocate gubernatorial seats to regions..... But it's never possible with the presidential seat
Very funny |

Altern8: Every human has an element of greed in them. However in Nigeria, one would most likely associate the igbos with greed many times over, before mentioning any other ethnic group. They have often attributed such tendencies to their reputed business acumen. Please don’t turn back today to give the appellation to another group, just because the topic is not about success in business.
That said, I must state clearly, that Yorubas do not give block votes to anyone. We believe in diversity and we embrace debate. Every election, the major candidates get divided votes in our region. This is healthy politics. Every election is a contest.
The same cannot be said for the South East. They have always given block votes. They gave it to Obasanjo in 1999 and did again for him in 2003, even against the hopes and wishes of the Biafran Icon, Ojukwu.
They did for Yar’Adua, Jonathan and Atiku.
Politics is a game of numbers. And you cannot sit tight in your house and demonise your neighbours, and still expect them to support your candidacy. Exclusivity is an inhibitor in politics. Be appealing across the board.
In 2015, Ngige had a chance to emerge as Senate President if and only if he won his constituency. I was in the South East during that period. The animosity towards him was stifling. A man whom his people once touted as a great Governor, was embarrassed at the polls only because he contested under a “Yoruba” party. This kind of reasoning is not going to get you the presidency.
Another case in point is the demonisation of the Lagos-Calabar rail project. This proposal suffered setbacks in the Senate when PDP was in control of the house. The South east legislators joined the adversary mob and did not lend their support to a project that would benefit them and their close allies, the South South. Do not cut off your nose to spite your face.
Last year, PDP stalwarts from the South East voted to zone the presidency to the North! The very thing you have been clamouring for, you gave away. I won’t reveal my thoughts on the reason behind that decision anyway. (Many people are sensitive on Nairaland and I am not prepared to engage in any online brawl today.)
If you want to win the centre, then you must not be offensive to your neighbours.
Nobody is out to get you. If your interests are appealing, you will win the support you crave. The igbos are greedy, but they voted for Obasanjo even against their own brother, Ojukwu
Don't you think you're talking from both sides of your mouth?
And what about the Middle belt? What's their offense? Are they offensive to their neighbors too? |

Sirwallace: Now you are getting the drill. That is loyalty with other region. That is when a minority group can get the number to win election in this country. Jonathan did exactly that in the south west few weeks to the election and he got all south west support except osun state where he lost. Yeah
So we can conveniently say that since the South west and the north have such loyalty, then they will keep ruling us back to back while the south south, south east and middle belt watches, right?
This is what you mean Abi? |
Politics › Re: Bola Tinubu Campaign Signboard “Vote BAT 2023’’ Spotted In Lagos by izzou(m): 9:10am On Jul 29, 2019 |
Sirwallace: OBJ is a product of june 12. A compensation by the military to the yoruba after the all accepted 1993 election and what follows after Abacha's death. The middle belt still dont have the numbers and loyalty with the north can get them the numbers. Still around the points I mentioned earlier. And OBJ couldnt have won without the number in the north. They don't have the numbers?
Is there any time they will ever have the numbers?
I'm talking about taking turns to strengthen our unity. Let parties present candidates from the middle belt, and let the party support him. What has numbers got to do with that? |
Politics › Re: Bola Tinubu Campaign Signboard “Vote BAT 2023’’ Spotted In Lagos by izzou(m): 8:55am On Jul 29, 2019 |
Sirwallace: I have nothing against an igbo man becoming the president. I am an advocate of competency for any elective post regardless of the ethnic or political affiliation of the candidate. But in nigeria's politics, loyalty and much more numbers win election. Until the igbo learn how to play the politics right, I am afraid it would take an eon for them to get to that stage of producing the president. If you look at the emergence of yaradua and jonathan as president, you cant take away those two factors I mentioned. And when they voted in Obasanjo in 8 years, they didn't play politics right abi?
And what about the Middle belt? Why are you guys deflecting from there and focusing on the Igbos? |

wifeesnatcher: the guy is asking you a simple question but you kept repeating the same words over and over again
which party are Igbo going to contest from or we should change our constitution because Igbo need to be president?
let Igbo aspirant come out like every other persons to contest for primary election first. Nigeria constitution on the electoral acts mandate any candidate whatsoever to win his party primary election to be qualified to contest in general election. it state further that after the vote count of electorates the candidate with political apogee will emerge. so all this your statement are baseless
Nigeria used written constitution so you can't be bringing empirical discourse on politics that enjoyed pragmatic So it is only the Igbo that hasn't ruled in this country?
I got your point even before you quoted me |

LegendHero: Please don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying the Igbos should not be president, infact I want them to be president but I’m just asking how will that come to reality.
Will they contest in PDP or APC, or they want both parties to zone the presidency to just the SE alone?
The last time I heard, the Igbos are already talking about voting Kwakwanso or Tambuwal for 2023, I’ve not seen any Igbo man serious about being the president, they should come out and see if the Yorubas will support or not. Is there no igbo senator in APC? Is there no Middle belt Senator in APC?
My point was, if truly we claim to be united, everyone should be given a chance to rule. So stop all these deflections. The Igbos are not the only group in Nigeria
If the south west and north west have ruled, let someone else take the baton.... Na my point be that |
Politics › Re: Bola Tinubu Campaign Signboard “Vote BAT 2023’’ Spotted In Lagos by izzou(m): 12:17am On Jul 29, 2019 |
LegendHero: @The bolded, the Yorubas never supported the first tenure of Obasanjo, the Igbos did because it was PDP.
Get this right bro, the Igbos only vote parties irrespective of the candidate, they supported Obasanjo and Yar’Adua not because they love them but because they love PDP and they are die hard fan.
But you haven’t answered my question, how do you think the Igbos can become President either in PDP or APC, just give me a brief plan you think they can pull.
You mentioned Obasanjo bringing Yar’Adua, that’s true but can you tell me someone that can bring a Igbo man now or how do you think an Igbo can become the president.
Note: I fully support a Igbo presidency too for cohesion sake but it seems really hard looking at the current naija situation. So we can actually say the Igbos ruled from 1999 to 2003 through Obasanjo. After all, the Yorubas didn't support him.... But they supported him from 2003 to 2007. You are very funny
Okay, let's agree that the Igbos shouldn't rule. What about the Middle belt? Aren't they Nigerians? And aren't they a part of the ruling party?
What's wrong if they are considered for 2023, instead of all these Osibanjo, Tinubu and Nasir rumours? |

LegendHero: Well I will like the Igbos to be a president. But judging by the present political trend can you give me a logical explanation how that can be either in PDP or APC?
Please try to educate me on the possibility and what game you think the Igbos can play to become the president. Do you think they need to play any games to earn it?
What game did the North West play before the whole nation voted Musa Yaradua? Did you know him before he won?. All it took was for Obasanjo to lift his hand
I'm not saying it must be Igbos though.... But we have other regions in the country....
Like I said, the first tenure of the Yorubas was also supported by these same Igbos. Or did the Yorubas play any game for that one? |

But come to think of it, since 1999,
The South west have had eight years to rule The South South had 6 And the North West have had 6...with the remaining 4 assured
Another region should at least rule in 2023. The South east should be given a shot, or the Middle belt.
Let's strengthen our supposed unity |

It's not possible
There can never be peace without Justice.
Hundreds have been killed in Benue and Plateau and till today, nobody was convicted of those killings, and you expect people to just live in peace?
Yes, Miyetti is right. We all should be able to move about according to our constitution. But until some is held responsible for the unjust killing of any citizen, issues like this will keep arising
