In the greater scheme of things, political primaries & campaigns are used to cajole people into voting for persons an individual or few individuals want. Take it or leave it.

They determine the people allowed to contest primaries, determines who wins the primaries and fly the flag of the party. At that your point of voting, you are picking someone's choice. They did not coerce you, but ultimately you have been subjected to someones choice.
