BodyKiss: In 2011 when Ronaldo broke record, had more goals, but without major trophy, Messi won it, then people said Messi won the Ballon d'or because of the titles and team achievement.
In 2012, Ronaldo scored less goals and won major trophy, while Messi scored more goals and won no major trophy and still win the award. Now the story is that the award is for individual achievement, not team. No matter how you look at it, this whole thing is about Messi being more likeable than Ronaldo.
Bros, forget, over 300 different people from different parts of the world, acting independently, can hardly be wrong.

vizboy: Well the fact is fifa gave it to messi but to me ronaldo is the best just my personal opinion. If fifa know these was not bais they would have put it online for all football loving fans to vote just like goal.com does rather than allowing just a few bias coach and players to vote
Even after evidence was placed in front of you, you still believe FIFA 'gave' it to Messi?

So you think 3 persons per country are not representative enough, but you want everyone to vote, with China and India's 1.2 and 1 billion population respectively enough to tilt the outcome in favour of one person, dwarfing votes from all of Africa put together? That is the transparent process abi?

I taught my wife. Not being a patient teacher (my younger sisters and brothers used to hate me teaching them lessons when we were growing up), I had some issues when teaching her and she almost fed up. But now, she drives to anywhere in Lagos (except on top of 3rd Mainland Bridge.

I see driving school as waste of money.

Recite Ahuzubillah mina shaytani rajeem 777 times, then suratul Nas and falaq 77 times, before you sleep, when you wake up, and it can be recited on clean water and spray the water around your house or take bath with it or do the both.

Then move closer to Allah, and closer, and closer, and more closer. call 08023926101 for Islamic spiritual help
Are we sure we are not going bid'ah here not going bid'ah here? The authentic tradition from prophet is 3 suratul falaq, nas and ikhlas on palms and rub over body. Don't punish the poor woman with 77 when 3 is enough.

That is what I'm saying. Messi didn't select CR7 in his top 3, the Portugal guy too didn't select Messi in his top 3. 2 ge 4.

Italian coavh selected his boys (Pirlo and Buffon) as top 2. Spanish coach also voted his boys(Iniesta, Xavi and Cassilas),

Dee60: Keshi - Is this how you want to win AFCON? Yaya ko, Sule ni!

As for Real Madrid - A house in shambles.....they should get up quickly and manage their differences.
I tire o

So in Keshi's eyes, neither Messi nor CR7 is among top 3 players in the world? The man go vote Yaya, RVP and Drogba. Our coach must be watching koro soka, not football.

Eto'o came 3rd as recently as 2004. He was an African. Stop the racist remark. Drogba came 8th and you wont tell me he did more than the 7 guys ranked ahead of him.

la furia: @ jarus, argetina and messi didnt vote for CR7.............In summary, everybody voted for his friend......
i thought the voting was strictly between cr7 y messi y iniesta, how did the others like ramos grin, alonso, ibra etc get a vote,? my point is why tell us the final three wen its obvious that i can vote for chamakh as world best player.......oh i see, you vote for the final 23, is alright grin

well all done and dusted....... but the fifa XI huh
Everybody that got nomination(by coaches, captains and journalists, even if one nomination) was among the initial long list released by FIFA way back November.

And getting the first 11 is also easy. Top ranked in each position. Messi (1st), Ronaldo (2nd), and Falcao (5th) were the top ranked forwards, so will automatically mean they are the forwards for FIFA 11. Drogba came 8th, and 4th ranked forward(after the trio). Except you want a strange formation of 4 strikers, Drogba couldn't have made First 11, despite coming 8th overall. Ditto for Pirlo. Yes, he did well, but other midfielders (Iniesta, Xavi, Xabi and who's the 4th again) ranked ahead of him, not because FIFA didn't his face but because the four guys appeared more in coaches and captains' nominations than Pirlo's.

It's that simple. I have never for once believed FIFA or CAF sit down and give someone award.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Ballon D'or 2012: How They Voted by Jarus(op): 6:40pm On Jan 08, 2013
Full list of voting by countries captains and coaches is avaiable in that link, last paragraph. Tried to attach it, but couldnt, too large.

I can see Yobo voted for Messi, Ronaldo and Yaya Toure in that order. Keshi also voted for Yaya, Drogba and Van Persie in that order.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Ballon D'or 2012: How They Voted by Jarus(op): 6:35pm On Jan 08, 2013
afam4eva: This thing could have gone either way ooo cos it seems some people voted based on sentiments.
Yeah, there are sentiments. For example, I see Algerian captain voting for Karim Benzema as no 1. That's clearly sentiment-driven. No sane football watcher would say Benzema was best player in the world in 2012. Messi, Ronaldo, Falcao, Iniesta, Xavi, all debatable, but Benzema, clearly nah. But I can see teh connection - Benzema has Algerian origin like the voter.

Also, I think contrary to his vote, Messi himself believes Ronaldo is one of the top 3 players in the world. Same for the guy that voted for Portugal. He can't tell me he sincerely believed Messi wasnt among top 3 players in the world, but he left him out to reduce his chance.

But overall, I think the voting is diverse enough to reflect true best player. The few sentiments-driven couldn't have made much difference, especially since teh difference between winner and 1st runner up is so wide.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Ballon D'or 2012: How They Voted by Jarus(op):
For those who say FIFA just sit down somewhere and 'give' someone, maybe the people that voted from diverse parts of the world were goaded by FIFA to give one player.

[b]ANALYSIS
By Chris Myson

Lionel Messi has won his fourth Ballon d’Or title, scooping the prestigious individual award over runner-up Cristiano Ronaldo and third-place team-mate Andres Iniesta.

Radamel Falcao finished up in fifth, behind another Barcelona stalwart, Xavi, while Iker Casillas came in at sixth.

Andrea Pirlo, Didier Drogba, Robin van Persie and Zlatan Ibrahimovic made up a star-studded final top 10 for the calendar year of 2012.

After the awards ceremony, Fifa has released an intriguing list of the full votes for the award, which is decided based on decisions made by international coaches, captains and a selection of media representatives from each member nation.

The voting list reveals some decisions that would raise few eyebrows, but other ones that can be considered as particularly surprising.

In England’s votes, both manager Roy Hodgson and captain Steven Gerrard voted for the brilliant Messi as their winner, with Ronaldo in second.

They differed with their decisions for third-place, though, as the Three Lions boss went for Falcao, while the Liverpool captain opted for former team-mate Xabi Alonso.

For Spain, boss Vicente Del Bosque, who himself was recognised on the night with the Coach of the Year award, went for three of his own players; Casillas, Xavi and Iniesta in the top three positions.

Casillas himself had a vote and very surprisingly opted for club and international team-mate Sergio Ramos as his No.1 pick, with Ronaldo only second ahead of Iniesta, perhaps hinting at why the Portuguese ace felt his club were not fully supportive of his Ballon d’Or bid.

Messi had a vote as captain for Argentina and did not select Ronaldo in his top three at all, opting for Iniesta, Xavi and Sergio Aguero. Alejandro Sabella voted for Messi, with Ronaldo also absent from his selections.

Portugal matched that tactic, as Bruno Alves, who was voting in place of Ronaldo, went for his team-mate as top pick with Messi not in the top three, although Paulo Bento did name the Argentine in third.

Italy boss Cesare Prandelli voted for his star player Pirlo over Gianluigi Buffon and then Messi, while Buffon himself also went for the Juventus midfielder as his top choice.

Philipp Lahm backed Iniesta over Messi and Ronaldo, while Germany coach Joachim Low voted Mesut Ozil, Manuel Neuer and Xavi as his top three.

France coach Didier Deschamps backed Messi over Ronaldo and Xavi, while Hugo Lloris stayed loyal to the goalkeepers’ union by voting Casillas as No.1 over Falcao and Drogba.

Brazil skipper Thiago Silva’s votes were unremarkable, with Messi beating Ronaldo to top spot and his PSG team-mate Ibrahimovic in third.

Louis van Gaal voted for Messi over Ronaldo and Falcao, while Netherlands captain Wesley Sneijder voted Van Persie over Messi (second) and Ronaldo (third).

Darren Fletcher, who was casting votes as Scotland captain, backed former team-mate Ronaldo at No.1, with Messi and club team-mate Robin van Persie as his other selections.

I knew one of Emenike and Ideye would be dropped and all indicators had been pointing to Ideye.

Well, I think he should have taken both of them. They are the only two 9 in the initial list. Now we have just one conventional striker.

Also, I'm surprised Catalunya goal scorer, Dike, didnt make the final cut.

Seun is actually my very good friend. He is a great guy, honestly. Even off-Nairaland, we maintain cordial relationship. Just yesterday, he offered me type C Nairaland advert for free, for a private project I needed to advertise. That is Seun for you.
Politics › Re: Let's Have Your Complaints, Suggestions & Enquiries Here by Jarus(m): 3:44pm On Jan 07, 2013
Seun: Yes, your activities definitely contributed a lot to the forum. I really appreciate everything you've done for Nairaland.
Seun, your speaking from both sides of your mouth in this thread is embarrassing me too. In one breathe you will accuse me of abdicating my duty (not moderating, only doing awards, giving silly excuse etc), in another breathe you will acknowledge my efforts as positive. Same thread. And this is affecting my mood swing too.

But knowing you, I feel for you. I know you are one gentleman that only needs to be a little more decisive rather than juggling many objectives together, trying to pease everyone. With your level of attainment, candidly, I think you should have gone beyond this. Know it or not, you are no longer an average Joe in Nigeria. You are an icon, as owner of Nairaland.
Politics › Re: Let's Have Your Complaints, Suggestions & Enquiries Here by Jarus(m): 3:29pm On Jan 07, 2013
Seun: It's true. Even OAM4J can confirm that before the end of year contests, Jarus hardly moderated. He only moderated when he was organizing awards and debates. So after the awards, he was looking for any excuse to resign. When I urged him to remove Chinua Achebe from the hall of shame, he thought he had found his opportunity, so he resigned. But then people started begging him to reconsider, and he didn't want it to seem as if he was being stubborn, so he demanded an apology from me thinking I would not apologize. When I apologized, he was shocked, but he came back reluctantly in order to please the people who begged him to come back. But he still wanted to resign because he really doesn't have any time to moderate. So when I appointed Afam as a moderator, he resigned again, using the ridiculous excuse that he "can't work under a quota system". It's a very strange excuse, if you think about it. Why should the appointment of a moderator to help the fight against tribalists and eliminate the complaints of marginalization by Igbos be a problem for Jarus as a moderator?
Just reading this in full. If I should reply, this place will be turned into something which I won't like it to turn into. I just want to avoid fighting you in public, Seun. But you are pushing me. Seriously. Pls, Seun, I know you what you can handle and what you cannot. Pls, don't let me start with you. Pls angry
Politics › Re: Let's Have Your Complaints, Suggestions & Enquiries Here by Jarus(m):
Seun: Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing Jarus at all. He's a great guy. I'm just saying that he is a very busy man, and that's why he had to resign.
My friend, I no understand you again o cheesy

After typing and losing (thanks to my phone) a missile of a comment, seeing this, no need for re-type again.

But last time I checked, 'he doesn't moderate(do his job)' and 'use Seun as a scapegoat' are not complimentary comments o.

And I'm sure you also know that what you said as my principal activities(awards, debates, halls, etc) which you discounted for locking and moving threads(which you restricted definition of moderating to and not being creative as I did) added glamour and maturity to this section, for the good of your forum in the final analysis. And even that moving and locking threads you attached the most value to (rightly) I did that well, even if on lower scale than my partners). In any case, you may want to check the first page of politics section today and check how many topics ought to have been moved to right sections(and this is the honeymoon week of your new Mod o, with full energy)

Anyway, let's let it go. Let's all move on. There is just a time to move on.

The day we begin to take value in talent and capabilities, that will be the beginning of Change in Nigeria.
Spare us this. What you call certificate is not just paper, it is the summary of your accumulated performance over a number of years. If someone did better than you in those years(evidenced by certificate) there is no way you can prove to me that you are better than him, since he bested you in those years represented by that paper. After all, I don't know any of you before and I can only judge by your past, represented by those certificates.

I'm not a big fan of Mikel and I believe he is overrated but I won't put him in no 46. Worst, he should be in 20-25.

Taiye Taiwo's rank is clearly bad judgment. He should be in 30's to 40's.
