Car Talk › Re: Why Do Most Nigerians Use Exotic Cars Yet Live In Poor Or Rented Houses? by Jarus(m): 1:52pm On Oct 10, 2011
ojubi:
Dear naira landers, it gives me a lot of concern to see many people driving the latest car in town, most times they have more than one of such ride but live in a rented house with their families for more than 10 years.

Are this group of people afraid of buying land and building their own houses? Or they just want to be seen as being rich while in reality is not true?
Most likely, most of them have their house projects going on. It may take years.
I know someone who became a Manager in a bank while still in a 3-bedroom rented apartment. He was given official car(Toyota Corolla 2004, the latest then) and got a driver. But his neighbours did not know he had already completed his house in his village(far back 2002) and was about completing that of Lagos(which he started 2003). He moved to that moderate house in Ajah shortly(2005) and today due to the then crazy Ajah traffic, bought a 50m house in VI(now arrived).

harakiri:
Can you define what you mean by "EXOTIC CAR"? How many "exotic cars" have you seen with your two eyes in Nigeria and how many of the owners live in the so called "poor rented houses"? Poverty has really cooked the brains of Nigerians. Exotic cars are the likes of Bentley,Rolls Royce,Ferrari,Porsche,Lamborghini,Mercedes,BMW,Aston Martin,Bugatti Veyron,Maybach and so on. These are exotic cars NOT Toyota Camry and Honda accord that I'm pretty sure are the so called "exotic cars" you're referring to. In the western hemisphere, a lot of people drive good cars and still live in rented apartments. There are millionaires who have no houses of their own (a lot live in hotel suites for years) so what are you talking about?
Good one. I agree fully with you.

If you don't use a Tokunbo car in Nigeria, then you're seen as using 'exotic cars'. All brand new cars are exotic in some Nigerians thinking. I absolutely see nothing wrong in someone using Toyota Camry 2010 or Honda Accord 2010 and living in rented apartment.
Car Talk › Re: Why Do Most Nigerians Use Exotic Cars Yet Live In Poor Or Rented Houses? by Jarus(m): 1:17pm On Oct 10, 2011
Most of those cars you're seeing are bought for them by the company as official cars, and it becomes theirs after 3-4 years. So don't think your neighbour that uses N6m car paid for it from his pocket.

Also, the taste of someone using, say 9m Prado, will usually be high in house as well. He would most likely have plans to build 30-40m house, which he may barely afford now.

Thanks to the Saraki family, my Kwara no dey carry last for popularity.

Top 5 most popular:
1, Lagos
2, FCT
3,Kaduna
4,Kano
5, Rivers

Least 5
1, Ebonyi(as politically conscious and current I usually am, I dont know the governor of this state. I even do sometimes forget the capital)
2, Taraba
3, Kebbi
4, Jigawa(save Sule Lamido, could have also ranked lower)
5,Gotta throw a coin btw Gombe and Nasarawa.

Meanwhile, I read someone mention Anambra in the list of Top 5, even ahead of Kaduna and Kano, well, go to a village in Kebbi or Zamfara state and tell an average man on the street you're from Anambra, if the response you get is not 'where is that?' then come back and tell what it is.

Now i see. No wonder nairalanders are criticizing GEJ as if nothing good can come from him. Now I know that NL is a Buhari site. Well, not a problem. At least I now see why so much criticism are coming from here. So I now see it is because of the money you people lost. Hmmm, pathetic indeed.
You must be a newbie or newly initiated into this section, for if you were not, you should have known what happened in this section during election period. i am the moderator of NL politics and unabashedly a Buhari supporter. But the forum owner himself threw his weight behind GEJ at the period. Nairaland never officially or surreptitiously supported anybody. we gave everybody equal chance of promoting his candidate of choice.

Politics › Re: Buhari,the Mistakes ,the Lessons. by Jarus(m): 8:52pm On Oct 07, 2011
We all did our best to ensure a Buhari victory. On Nairaland here alone we raised close to 800,000 and I personally visited radio stations for Buhari jingle. From Oyo to Osun to Lagos to Rivers, our jingle for Buhari was aired.

We did all these for him because we believe he is the closest to the leader we need at this point in time. Deep inside the heart of most of us though, we knew it was an uphill task.

In any case, only Buhari, of all Nigerian politicians, can form a new party and in less than 1 year, the party gave a 12-year old, multi-billion naira-funded, ruling party a run for its money. Only Buhari can poll 12m votes with a new party. That's enough achievement.
Politics › Re: You May Never Be A Billionaire If You Were Born Between 1974 And 1984 by Jarus(m): 5:09pm On Oct 07, 2011
On a second thought, this thing is looking like truth o grin
I have been racking my head to give an example, but still hasn't come with even a single person to negate the theory.

1974-1984? That's to name a Nigerian Billionaire between age 27-37.

I thought of saying, but Nigerians are hardly billionaires(even in Naira) at that age but I know Dangote was one by 1996(39 years), Adenuga by 1990(37 years), Wale Tinubu by 2001(34).

But the strongest point I ahve against this argument is that in actual fact, these guys were not billionaires at that age. They were just multi-millionaires. So there are a number of 1974-1984 born multi-millionaires that are unknown now who may hit real billions in their 40s to 50s. Dangote, Adenuga and many others were not household names when they were in their 30s.

Intention is only for a good action
Sports › Re: AFCON Qualifier: Nigeria Vs Guinea Conakry (2 - 2) On 8th October 2011 by Jarus(m): 8:39pm On Oct 03, 2011
Eagles underrate Guinea at own peril. The Syli Nationale has quality players that are still playing in or have played in big clubs in the past. The likes of Bobo Balde(ex-Celtic), Yattara, Pascal Fendouino, Bangoura brothers can match our players, having made their marks in France, Scotland, etc.

This team is a watered down version of CIV. Write them off at peril.

I expect Eagles to carry the day though.

Ronaldinho will not make the list of Top 5 players in the last 2 decades(1990-2011)n not to talk of all-time. He will queue behind the likes of Zidane, Ronaldo de Lima and Messi.

All-time, he wont make Top 10 when Pele, Maradona et als also come into equation.

He was a great player no doubt, but his career was too short-lived.
Sports › Re: A Cry: Samson Siasia, Please, We Need Rabiu Ibrahim by Jarus(m): 6:25am On Oct 01, 2011
Guys, c'mon, Rabiu is good but hey Rabiu as Nigeria's midfield lead is a no-no, at least for now. If he is that good, he would have got a starting shirt in PSv and would have had a stable career rather than all these loaning from one club to another. He couldn't enter Sporting Lisbon first team and he was loaned to another club I cant remember before landing in PSV.

Also, imagine Nigeria Vs CIV and Rabiu against Yaya Toure, Didier Zokora etc. C'mon guys, Mikel is still our best bet in midfield. Than Kalu Uche, Haruna and maybe Rabiu can support. MUch has been said about Fegor Ogude too but yet to prove himself in Eagles shirt.

But I will not call it a fraud, when someone updates a FB profile for president. It's normal to me, as it is hardly feasible for a president to be updating his profile at such frequency.

Back to the topic, how many kilometres is Ilesa from Ife? I also noticed that you changed from 7 minutes to 10 minutes when your bare-faced lie was pointed out to you. He's brilliant. They are good Muslims. Let him go to OAU, Ife, religious-neutral federal university where you practice your religion freely, interact with as many groups of people as you're comfortable with, learn under the best of conditions etc.

To me OAU is one of the best cosmopolitan environment you can learn in Nigeria and, dare I say, a better and cheaper school than Covenant.

I went to OAU and came out better in all ramifications, even in religiousity.
