All comments noted. But, Beaf, you can also help us maintain a good forum by refraining from calling people names and splashing photoshopped pictures around, as well as tolerating contrasting views. |
Integrity is a scarce commodity in Nigeria, doubly so when you are looking for it in PDP environment. |
Channels political programmes do it for me, although I am more of a newspaper/internet person than watching TV programmes. When I put on TV, I go straight to sports channels. |
Thanks for continuing the discussion in religion section. |
I'm just seeing this. What happened? How may I help you? |
calid16:Stop exposing your ignorance. Akintola was premier of Western Region. Lagos was not part of western region but Federal Capital then. Ibadan was teh capital and seat of Western government. Lagos structures are not necessarily named after regional leaders, but first deserving are national leaders(Zik, Tafawa Balewa, later Murtala, Obj, IBB, and other Heads of state), then regional leaders(Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello, Michael Okpara). So, Tafawa Balewa/Zik deserve an immortalization in Lagos before Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello, because Lagos was a Federal asset. Ahmadu Bello and Awolowo have equal right to having structure named after them in Lagos, because Lagos was neither part of Western region nor Northern Region, but was the Federal seat, just as Abuja is independent and not annexed to any state today. |
The thread doesn't qualify for deletion, according to forum rules. I can only clean it. Thanks. |
The discretion on what topic makes the fp is the Admin and Supermod's. I will send the topic to them and if they consider it fit for hp, it will. |
^^^^ Taken care of. Thanks. |
Mai Suya:He may not be up to 40, but he's clearly not younger than 34 During Buhari-Idiagbon regime of 1984-85, becomrich was already in Secondary school. Do the maths. |
With a graduate like this, there is urgent need to declare a state of emergency in our education system. I'm serious. |
Ok. Salam |
Dear political contributors, I consider it necessary to brief us on the happenings in this section in the last few weeks, due primarily to the increasing demand by observant and worried forum members in the various threads opened, especially the 'Where is Aisha2 thread?', to know what exactly is happening in this section. First, I must apologize for my inactivity in the last couple of weeks, which made the tribal warlords and spammers run berserk. I did come around actually, but most times I accessed NL from my phone, where I cannot exercise the mod rights. I apologize, once again. It was due to a private commitment. POST - ELECTION RECONCILIATION: In the run-up to the April elections, all of us, from the members to the Mods, to even the forum owner, exercised our political choices and never hid our preferences. A lot of debates, lots of accusations and counter-accusations, lots of allegations, lot of name-calling etc. It was a trying period for we Mods too but we tried to maintain our cool. But elections are over and I am especially happy that everbody has moved on. Normal debates have returned, and the boundary of polarization is fast tearing down. I am really impressed at this. Pls let's keep it that way. Let's forget our electoral differences and come back to make our country a better one. TRIBAL TOPICS It is a pity that at this age, some people still pre-occupy themselves with 'my tribe is better than yours' ranting. Even more surprising is when you see otherwise brilliant analysts descending into such abyss. I saw the level it degenerated to when and Aisha2 were away, but thanks to other authorities who took care of it, as I can see today that most of the topics have been consigned to their right places. Pls do not hesitate to call our attention to such topics and threads, using the 'Complaints' thread especially. AISHA2 The continued absence of Aisha2 has raised a lot of questions and thread. I have explained earlier. Aisha2 is fine. We still chatted few days ago. There is just a misunderstanding between her and the forum owner. For now she has tendered her resignation, but I hope there will be a reconciliation and she will be back. Finally, I appreciate those that went extra mile to give a call while I was not so active for some days. Those that asked on-the-thread are also acknowledged. Let's all join hands to make Nigeria the country of our dream and consolidate Nairaland's position as Nigeria's leading forum. Thank you. Jarus. |
bawomolo : A positive thinker People like bawomolo are fast becoming rare breed in nairaland.Unfortunately, he is now late. You never saw anything before you left. You only saw the tip of the iceberg. He niow goes by the name Becomrich1-100, and he has grown to become egun eja to Nairaland! ![]() |
A few great games and good goal returns and people are saying CR7 is better than Messi. This is most laughable. Where were they when Messi not only outclassed him in games both played? Where were they when Messi was redefining the round leather game in the last two years? Even a look at the earlier part of this thread will reveal this. Class is permanent, form is temporary. I refuse to be deceived to change my opoinion just because a player had few extra-great games. Messi has had so many of that. |

^^^ Salam. I'm highly surprised there is a Nairalander with 10,000 plus posts that I have never come across! |

Automation and use of advanced ERP also lead to shrinking of structure. For example, few years ago, in my company, Fixed Asset Accountant used to be a one-function position, who was in charge of all company assets - monitoring, computing depreciation, accounting for etc. He sometimes even had a temporary staff(NYSC) etc as assistant. But with the adoption of an advanced ERP a couple of years ago, the whole process is just running few programmes, and you have your reports and figures, so much so that the function is now merged with other functions, and a single staff do that. Ditto for payroll. The old, pre-ERP process of printing hundreds of payslips, distributing, etc is now a click job. In fact, in my company now, promotion/bonus/salary adjustment/ letters are no longer physically distributed. Just a click, and you have it. All these have meant shrinking of functions, and of course, some laying off! |

Ajanleko at its usual best. Good analyses on this thread. In fact, I will use this thread as a resource in the column I write for an Education newsmagazine. |
I handle payroll accounting for my organization, in addition to Tax and Fixed Assets. Before, the payroll function was fully in HCM. But not being accountants, there usually arose reconciliation issue during audit. The payable officer in HCM can only prepare and analyses payroll data but does not know where to credit or debit, where to adjust, where to apportion, where to reclassify etc. That was why we trasnferred the function to Finance, not as a full sub-unit but merged to Tax unit, which I currently handle. The administrativeaspect of payroll(salary processing, deductions, analysis etc) still resides with the HCM payroll officer but the accounting part is now in Finance, and both interfaces. |
Siena, you have just summarized the early years of Nairaland. Only that you forgot the veteran of the thenb hot Religion section. Davidylan, Olabowale etc. Meanwhile, is Osisi still on NL? |

Newsmagazining died in Nigeria long time ago. I hardly even read newsmagazines in Nigeria again. In the early to mid 90's, as a primary and later Junior SS student, I remember how glued I used to be to old man's Tell and Newswatch. Scoops, interesting revelations, great analyses etc. Those guys fought military to standstill. Dele Omotunde, Ralph Ekpu, Dan Agbese, Yakubu Mohammed, Soji Omotunde, etc. Every week, you got new things about the political intrigues, and terms like Kaduna mafia, were coined and popularized by this magazines. Oh, good old days of journalism in Nigeria. Is Tell still publishing? |
Socially responsibly, I will ok the acquisition, to save a dying legacy, and people. But knowing Jimoh Ibrahim, I will say this is the end of Newswatch's objective, investigative, critical journalism. |
