The writer, Sam Omatseye, is Chairman of The Nation Editorial board, Tinubu's paper. Both the paper and sam have never hidden their ACN/Tinubu affiliation. |
The story was damn too interesting! When I picked Thisday this morning and read that Segun's article, I immediate exchanged BBM IM with SK, Thisday Editor, that I can't wait to read the remaining part and even the book. It's bombshell. Never Dangote, Otedola, Bukola Saraki, Ribadu wielded so much power as to 'five-handedly' select VP even against Obasanjo's preference. If the reason for stopping Odili was truly because of corruption, then kudos to these guys. But a question: what were Ibori and Ribadu doing together as power brokers? Or wasn't Ribadu aware of Ibori's dirty dealings too? By far the most shocking to me is the revelation that Dangote is that powerful and actively involved in politics. I also never knew editor and newspaper owners are so powerful. |
I am not a big fan of deification of personalities and I'm not usually comfortable with all these today's politicians' claim to following the footsteps of these past leaders, esp Hausas to Sardauna and Yoruba to Awo, riding to power in their names. All these notwithstanding, Sam went overboard in that article, which I saw on Monday. His language to Awo family was uncouth. Sam is one of my favourite columnists, but I have observed his partisanship and excessive biasness for AC in the last couple of days. If he's not praising Tinubu, Aregbesola or even an untested Amosun to high heavens, he will be cursing Oyinlola or Obasanjo on his column. While there is nothing wrong in openly affiliating with a party or people, I expect a respected columnist and professional journalist like Sam to maintain a decent level of objectivity. He should leave the those direct attacks to Joe Igbokwe, Lai Mohammed et al whose own job is to protect their party. Sam Omatseye is the Chairman of The Nation editorial board and 50 years of age half of which he has spent as a professional journalist, I expect him to be more professional in his criticism. He now makes it look like being the Chairman of editorial board of a newspaper makes one the attack dog of the politician-owner of the paper. Sam can do better. Even Reuben Abati, despite being Chairman of Ibru-owned Guardian, has not descended so low. So is Yusuf Olaniyonu of PDP's Obaigbena's Thisday. |

What is sauce for Jonathan is sauce for Tambuwal. Plain and simple |
The penalty is outrageous. N2,000 is more realistic and deterrent enough. Where will Iya Alaba elewa or pupil Luku get 20,000 to pay as penalty for careless disposing of water sachet? Abeg |
The hot spot is the Ibadan end of Ife-Ibadan expressway. He was going from Ife TH to Ibadan, probably just entering Ibadan. |
I also escaped that spot by whiskers last week Monday on my way from Osogbo to Lagos. I saw more than 20 freshly damaged vehicles. |
Reopened. |
Apologies to sane posters. This thread has to be locked temporarily. Wilywily and his co-travellers are on rampage. |
He's from Tambuwal(along Jega-Sokoto road), a town I know as a corper in Sokoto state few years ago. He lives in Sokoto though. As a corper then I used to see children of Sokoto politicians(esp the Abuja-based ones that leave their families at home) flashing all manners of posh cars in teh town, on campuses etc. I remember some of those cars being numbered NASS, MHR, Senate etc and obviously users being children of these Senators and Reps, but I don't think Tambuwal(at 41 then) would have had grown-up children and his children less likely to be among these spoilt brats. Politics being the major business there, it appears to me the game there is 'my father has higher post than yours' because I don't see why a Senator's son will be using car marked NASS on campus. |
Guys, let's try to keep sanity here. The thread is drifting with tension already building up here. The thread and posters are under watch as we will not hesitate to ban anybody that forments trouble here. |
Is it my eyes or what? Hon Tambuwal looks like Babasuwe(Yoruba comedian) in that oversize suit and bent tie. |
Last I heard Obasanjo lobbied Alaafin for the title which means either does not believe in the ancestral enemies or he is suicidalEbora Owu gan o easy! Awon ancestral enemies will not find it easy ![]() |
He meant General Robert Adeyinka Adebayo. Gen Adebayo, current Chairman Yoruba Council of Elders(Igbimo Agba Yoruba), a septuagenarian, was the first(?) Governor of Western Region Yeah, I remember reading not long ago that General Adebayo has been made Yoruba leader. I think he's not a bad choice as he has been very statemanly all these years. Only that he's not so visible. Tinubu is better as Aare Ona Kakanfo than Yoruba leader. Houvest, when he 'purifies' his style, then he is 'omoluabi'. |
The guy breached his party's zoning principle like GEJ and took opportunity and thanks to poor strategy from the other side, he has emerged, meaning no 2 and 4 are from NW and 2, 3, 4 from North. SW has been effectively expunged from the power equation. I don't even know who the highest ranking SWner is now, not to talk of what no. Some observations: 1, Jonathan/Patience's preferred candidate, Mulikat(to pacify Yoruba and women) did not win 2, Members rebelled against PDP leadership who wanted Mulikat 3, For Obj's candidate, Muraina, don't even go there. 4, Tambuwal may not last; he may be frustrated by PDP leadership plus the fact that he has been named in Bankolegate 5, Zoning is dying; anybody with good strategy and favourable factor can get anywhere irrespective of party arrangement 6, If GEJ and the powerful Patience could not influence who becomes speaker, then this house can achieve some level of independence from executive 7, ACN and CPC can influence outcomes of house decisions, as has been shown here, despite PDP still having majority members |
^^^ Moving topics to front page is the sole prerogative of Admin(Seun) and Supermod(Mukina). Even we Mods can't do that. |
I beg to disagree with this group. Tinubu IMO is not 'omoluabi' enough to be the Yoruba leader compared to past Yoruba leaders: Awolowo - Ajasin - Adesanya. Obasanjo was in a prime position to take this but he messed up his chance. I don't know any Yoruba leader that satisfies this statesmanly condition today. But being an indisputable warrior, I think he is qualified for Aare Ona Kakanfo(Generalissimo) of Yorubaland, a position previously held by Akintola and Abiola(which has place in Yoruba tradition more than the former anyway). |
Odunnu:The opposite is the case here. My strength is in writing, which I use to make up for the oratorial deficiency. But I have also seen noticeable improvement in my oratory skills in the couple of years after conscious work on it. |
I'll definitely not score an 'A' in public speaking, especially if it is extempore. I can prepare good speeches, but not being something I do frequently, I'm not my speech writing will also wow. But article writing, especially on public affairs commentary, I say in all modesty that this is my greatest literary asset and it has taken me to the extent of rubbing shoulders with top newspaper editors, top Nigerian commentators and top pundits and image makers today, despite not having any training in journalism. But story writing is also not my area. In primary and secondary school, I used to scribble some amateurish stories but I stopped it later in SSS and faced pure article writing, which is what I have come to develop today, so much so that I write at least 1 article every week, despite my busy schedule as an Accountant. You can still re-ignite your story writing passion. Just lay your hands on one. Try it one weekend. Post it on your facebook Note for people to read and comment. Who knows, you may just pick up again |
I write articles for publication and I've got almost 100 published in Nigerian top dailies and weeklies since 2003. The following may be of help: 1, You must have interest 2, You must be used to reading a lot of articles from different sources. This develops your style 3, Practice makes perfect. You learn new things and styles over time. Sometimes, when I look at articles I wrote some 6, 7 years ago, they look amateurish to me. Meanwhile, that was my best at that time, and some people's bets today. So it's something you keep improving on over time 4, First do a rough draft on a paper or on your system. Then review and make corrections. Read like 5 times to spot errors or areas you can do better 5, Your beginning and ending is very important. Make them attractive. 6, Your level of knowledge and versatility reflect in your article. The deeper you are, the richer your article. So try to be versed in many areas - from IT to Sports to History to Politics to Economy to Religion to General Knowledge. 7, If your vocabulary repertoire is very deep, there is nothing wrong in showing it off in your article, but you must get the basics(syntax, spelling, concord, spelling etc) right please. Nothing pisses off an informed reader more than the writer making simple mistakes in spelling, concord etc but using big grammar. If you must use big grammar, get the simple basics right pls. 8, Write and write and write. Read other writers and observe their styles. My own area of interest is politics, so majority of my writings are on politics. You may access some of my writings here: http://jarus.blog.com/ http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/profiles/oyewalesuraj |
You sound as if Shell, Mobil, Chevron are just places you stroll into for job. So if you settle for the former category(Shell etc), you think you can just enter there like that. Even with job at the moment, many brilliant people have been pursuing these companies for years. So what happens if you don't get Shell/Mobil job in 3 years, you sit down at home? Truth: KPMG, Deloitte and co are easier to get and are good places to start your accounting profession and it not only earns you income while you pursue MNCs, KPMG and co will offer you sound training in accounting that can ease your move to Shell and co later. |
How can people be so daft to fall for this glaring scam? What exactly does education, even just primary education, impact on Nigerian if a schooled person could not identify a simple scam like this poster? It's annoying seeing people here falling for this. Very upsetting! |
Wondering too. Never seen a Nigerian bear Kamara. Guineans and Senegalese are who I know bear that name. |

I'm an Accountant in an Oil and Gas coy. What do you mean by critical ability? All you need to know is basic knowledge of the industry and industry-specific accounting peculiarities. Major areas of peculiarities are 1, Petroleum Profit Tax is what is applicable to upstream and CIT applicable to downstream 2, Oil companies are collecting agents for VAT. So when a vendor/supplier charges you VAT, you will not pay them, you are required by VAT guidelines to withhold teh amount and remit on their behalf. This is not the case with non-oil coys. 3,The materiality threshold in Oil and Gas accounting is usually higher; this will affect what you will classify as Capex and Opex If you have general knowledge of accounting, you can always get to know all these things on teh job. |
Truth, like has been mentioned by people up there, is if you can't manage your life with 120k per month, you will not be able to do so with 1m per month. And I am talking from experience. When I was earning less than 200k net per month, I used to lament and complain. Within three years, the pay doubled, yet I keep complaining. It was then that I realized that human wants are truly insatiable and income can never be enough. This is how it happens: when you're earning 100k per month, some things will not come to your mind to spend money on. But when your income rises to say 250k, some things will naturally come to your mind, necessitating increased expenditure with the increased income, neutralizing the effect of rise of income. For example, with an annual income of 1.5m, you will hardly think of holidaying in top spots in the world, but when the income rises to say 5m, thoughts of spending your vacation in holiday spots in say Europe will be imaginable, necessitating further expenses. As another example, the car you will think of buying when your income was 5m will be different than that that will come to your mind when on annual income of 10m. I know people that earn 60k and are married and are coping. I know people that earn salary of less than 150k and are building house in their villages. Advice: go ahead and marry, but you just have to do a lot of planning! |
