Politics › Re: With The Emergence Of Tinubu As Yoruba Leader, Where Does Afenifere Fit In? by Jarus(m): 9:04pm On Apr 19, 2011
The last leader Yoruba had was Abraham Adesanya. Afenifere died with him more than a decade, former about Fasoranti and other pretenders.

Tinubu is the most powerful Yoruba politician at the moment, took over that from Obasanjo, but he is not necessarily the Yoruba leader, in the mould and general acceptance of Awolowo, Michael Ajasin, Bola Ige and most recently Abraham Adesanya. He is not as statesmanly as these men.

I'm still waiting for where I said I will resign if something happened and the contrary happened.

I staked my modship for 3 things during the election period.

1, That if Ribadu gets half of Buhari's votes, I will resign. Where on life is that guy, Tnubu4lyf, I challenged there? E don run away?

2, After PDP cleared Kano and some people said GEJ will defeat Buhari in Kano, I placed my Mod job for it, that I will resign if it happened.

3, That if Buhari did not defeat Sambo in his ward and Kaduna at large, I'll resign. This was the most risky, but I was so sure of my source in Kaduna, who knew the political mood.

Needless to say none of the 3 came to pass.

The only prediction I got wrong was claiming Buhari will get no less than 40%. But I was smart enough not to 'bet' my modship on that. I just mentioned it. And in anycase, I believe if we discount GEJ's votes by the inflated SS and SE figures, Buhari's % may come close to 40% plus.
And fyi, you can never find a post/place on NL here and elsewhere where I categorically said or predicted Buhari will win at 1st ballot. After the most optimistic of assumptions, I always concluded it will go into run-off.

I have spent more than 3/4 of my life following politics at the national level, to know what to stake something for what I am not sure of. This is not to say some events don't prove bookmakers wrong.

Meanwhile, I'll get in touch with Aisha2 for you guys.

did you not hear Ayo Adebanjo days ago hailing Gbenga Daniel a true progressive and a son of Awo?
These are the reasons I hate to use that word now to describe any living Nigerian politician.

More pitiably, the disciples of these progressive politicians of old, that lived till this dispensation, drifted from their progressive leanings.

I dont see Ebenezer Babatope as a progressive again, neither can I say Abubakar Rimi died a progressive. Balarabe Musa is still struggling to be one. Even Bola almost lost the identity(some people say accepting to serve under PDP's Obj govt, they don't believe he died one). Pa Enahoro was perhaps teh last of such breed.

But these are issues for another time. When the current unrest and post-election kerfuffle subside, I will like us to treat this topic as a thread.

This issue just won't go away in this discussion.
the strength of that candidate pool was an evidence that nothing but a primary would have sufficed.
I find it worrying that a gathering of progressives (whatever that means) would opt for some undefined, unscientific selection process called consensus in choosing the peoples representative.
if this core attribute of a democratic system is discarded, what core principle would be cardinal?
As much as i appreciate the view of Gbawe et al that politicians have to be pragmatic, certain actions should be unacceptable.
Mind you, it is not like this consensus thing was an exception, it was the rule within ACN.
Those that mean that if an incumbent fumbles but remains in the good books of the wise men (BAT ati Akande ati Osboa ati Adesina) he is returned?
I thought I was the only that has issue with the reckless ascription of this tag in Nigeria. I especially have a problem with some parties calling themselves. In this dispensation, ACN arrogates this label more than any other party. Even more disturbing is when you see crooks calling themselves progressives. The truth is very few political personalities qualify to be a progressive in this age. Awo's UPN and Aminu Kano's PRP of the 2nd republic are examples of progressive parties. These were parties taht had clear-cut ideology. You know UPN with its free education policy, you know PRP with talakawa, welfarist ideology.  Awo and Aminu Kano will turn in their graves when they hear the type of people calling themselves progressives today.

I think it amounts to e-bullying. People who have issues with forum members should take their fight elsewhere and not waste NL server resources on such things.
Thanks but discussing Nairaland personalities is not exactly a crime, but it should be done at the right section.
That was why I moved the thread from Politics to Nairaland section.

you pick ACN form??
are you ready to prostrate at Bourdillon mansion?
That was funny.
But I don't think I have to prostrate for Tinubu before getting AC ticket. In Lagos, almost impossible but in Kwara, I don't think so. I don't think Kwara's AC guber candidate, Dele Belgore, has much to do with Tinubu. I don't think the AC candidates that won NASS seats in some northern states like Adamawa, Kaduna, or in Anambra have anything to do with Tinubu. I agree Tinubu is the national leader and strongest man in the party, but I think the party is fast outgrowing him.

I have always had some sympathy for AC, simply because, as much as it is also populated by crooks, I admire the performance and administrative ideologies of a number of its topshots - Fashola, Aregbesola, Fayemi.

As for CPC, I believe in Buhari and Tony Momoh. Tunde Bakare is not a politician but he comes across as someone that will also not compromise. Other than those men, I don't know any other politician in that party I can vouch for. But at teh same time, the reason I believe crooks and opportunists took over the party in the north is because Buhari had a bigger challenge(presidential election) in front of him and had not time to sanitize the party, until after he crossed the election hurdle first. I believe he would not have spared anybody, including the crooks in his party too, if he won. But that did not happen and I have serious fears these men will men will cross back to PDP(as they did with ANPP) after riding on Buhari's back to power, since Buhari is not in charge at the central.

I can also not rule out the possibility of seeing what I can bring into CPC Kwara, but if you want to be a politician, you need to do some calculations as well. AC is teh party giving PDP a run for their money in my state. PDP is a total no-no. I can't compromise to the extent of joining PDP, but I believe AC is still not that bad. This is why I can't rule out joining AC, if at all I will enter politics.
Politics › Re: How GEJ Will Win On Saturday Foretold by Jarus(m): 6:00am On Apr 19, 2011
I put my bet on 2 facts earlier in this thread.

1, That only a day dreamer will think GEJ will get 50% of votes in Kaduna

2, That I will resign if PDP defeats CPC in Kano in presidential.

Paddy lo, do you, edoyad and other people that believe that agree you are a day dreamer?

Also, my 2nd assertion has come to pass.

If anybody noticed, at nowhere on this forum or elsewhere did I say my candidate will win. This is because I knew odds were stacked against him. As a politician, I was systematic in my assertions and played with words, but I was so sure of the 2 claims above that I put my mod job on it(if not because I don't bet, I can put my whole worth on it).

The 2 came to pass. I have the bragging right here. Lol

Politics › Re: No More Pdp Govs In North? Can We Safely Assume? by Jarus(m): 9:59pm On Apr 18, 2011
Shema(Katsina) is a goner. Zamfara's Shinkafi is also a goner but most not likely to CPC, but to Yerima's ANPP. Kaduna's Yakowa is also a goner. Bauchi's Yuguda is also not likely to survive, but he will not succumb easily, so I pray against violence in this state. It will be difficult for Babangida Muazu of Niger too but with IBB, he may escape it. No guber election in Sokoto. Until today, Kano was almost sure for PDP's Kwankwaso, but with the anger against PDP now, I see Kwakwanso losing his popularity and possibly his guber attempt. Jigawa's Lamido still appears safe. PDP's Goni still has a good chance in Borno.

Gbawe:
Jarus , a day is a long time in politics . Ribadu will bounce back from this easily in my opinion if he keeps himself relevant and visible . This election has shown that me and you are Wole Soyinka in a Nation full of Alao-Akala type when it comes to political sophistication . What has Jonathan done to deserve the support he gets? Instead he has done enough to ensure he did not get a single vote yet some followed him iconically . The list of his off-putting actions is too much . Yet hat did not result in a "dropped integrity rating" .

Ribadu will have learnt his lessons well . He will understand Nigerians more , taking in their fickle and idiosyncratic nature, to know how he too can be a better politician in future.

I only say buhari is the biggest loser because his last chance of becoming a democratic President is gone. Not so for Ribadu . The integrity you claim Ribadu has lost is only applicable to erudite voters like yourself . We should all now be convinced that those things ultimately mean nothing to the electorate if we look at all GEJ has done yet he still managed to win convincingly . Ribadu should simply add political astuteness to his zeal and he will be okay .
Did GEJ ever have any rating on integrity scale? Sincerity rating? maybe. Anyway, let's see what he will do to teh SE riggers, since he has told them not to rig for him.

Politics › Re: Ribadu's Expensive Gamble by Jarus(m): 12:47pm On Apr 18, 2011
I agree one has to stoop to conquer, and it is plausible to say Ribadu was only stooping to conquer but there was a better way he could have done.

For example, apart from rigging and GEJ's billion naira inducements, one factor that contributed to Buhari's loss was his reluctance to 'stoop to conquer'. It was very clear that Tinubu wanted to be his VP, but he was hesitant to work with Tinubu. Also, he never endorsed Mohammed Abacha. Also, until IBB and co went to meet him in the dying minutes, he was hesitant to have anything to do with them.

These are ways to play your game without having to lose what you are known for. If he had accepted Tinubu, he would surely have done better than this, but he was hesitant to jettison his principle. He lost gracefully.
Politics › Re: Ribadu's Expensive Gamble by Jarus(m): 12:37pm On Apr 18, 2011
Gbawe, I beg to disagree. Ribadu is not only a loser, he also dabbled into expensive gamble, as rightly put by Lagosboy.

Ribadu came out of this election with a drastically dropped integrity rating.
The respect he commanded before this sojourn greatly fell.

One, Ribadu's association with Tinubu, after calling him a corrupt man of international dimension, for which he struggled to defend, dented his image.

Two, his exoneration of Patience Jonathan, with all available documentary evidences to show he once talked about her money laundering charge, greatly diminished his morality standing.

Three - although I personally don't believe this - not a few people believe he was planted by PDP to give way for Jonathan presidency.

As for Buhari, he is not a loser. He personally stood to gain nothing. He has been there before. With less than 1% of Jonathan's campaign expenditure and less than 50% of Ribadu's campaign expenditure, he floored Ribadu and gave GEJ a run for his billion Naira. His rating among the public increase as this campaign made many people know much about him as well as his much talked-about integrity.

I personally don't have problem with Ribadu and I still have sympathy with ACN more than any other party, but I have enough reasons to believe Tinubu taught Ribadu politics 101.

Good job everyone. I have never been so actively involved in national politics like this. I spent my time, money and energy simply because I wanted a better Nigeria. History will judge us as group of young men that went beyond lamenting on the internet to make practical efforts at salvaging our country.

Congrats to Jonathan, for achieving the most expensive victory money can buy. Although our country is progressing, I must admit, we still have a long way to go. Buhari did not spend 1% of what Jonathan spent, from the open ones(newspaper campaigns, jingles dominating airwaves etc) to the behind-the-scene ones(billions that went down teh drain in bribery and inducements). Many people became millionaires from Jonathan's campaigns. Despite all these, our candidate was able to give him a run for his money. Buhari will go down in history as the man that formed a party less than 1 year ago, had no senior politician in his party, had no money to fund his party, yet shook a ruling power with power of incumbency with all their billions. I doff my heart for the people's general, and to us too, who wanted change in Nigeria.

You will see tomorrow whether Buhari rented crowd or not. If you think PDP will still win Kano, Sokoto, Kebbi etc in presidential election, then Monday is around the corner. CPC's mistake of selecting unpopular candidates plus the various cases of 2 aspirants still fighting for ticket till election. But in presidential, you will see whether his crowd are rented or not. Will he win election? I doubt it. But will he win NW where he pulled crowd? I have no doubt.
