We did not provide tie-breaker in our rules. Methink the Mod should reserve the right to pick. Or better still, bend the rule and put all 4 of them in poll. It's your discretion Mod.

Why did she abandon PDP for APGA? Realizing APGA is the strong party in her state.

AJK, I agree with what wrote up there about  JO, TE and FA,, but I will not agree Mike is a outright proxy.
I agree IBB has interest in his Business but we must not forget that before the man knew IBB during the oil bloc largesse of early 90's, he was already a successful businessman. And he was in his 30's then. The fact is if you're rich to a certain extent, you ignore presidential cooperation to your peril - that is political economy, anyway.

On Tony, I think the guy deserves great respect. He became CEO of a fast-growing bank, STB, in his early 30's. This is a great record if we recall that he is not the child of any Subomi Balogun or Mike Adenuga or Yinka Folawiyo. He rose to CEOship(founded the bank, actually) purely on his own.

Same for FA when he co-founded GTB in 1990 in his thirties too.

These guys are no doubt corporate gurus that never rode on the crest of any family to achieve what tehy achieved. This is not to entirely say those that had silver-spoon background but made it are less genius(Wale Tinubu and co). It takes more than lineage to succeed in Business. You can ask Abiola's children.

NO, you can't change your vote as it has already being tabulated and counted. Have you ever seen someone retrieving the voting slip he has deposited into the ballot box to change his vote during an election? undecided That would amount to corrupting the electoral process and is punishable by applicable laws grin

Your nominations are perfectly valid and will be counted as you both haven't nominated anyone before.

Nairaland General › Re: LAGOSBOY IS 2010 ISLAMIC SECTION POSTER OF THE YEAR by Jarus(op): 10:58am On Dec 15, 2010
BRIEF CITATIONS OF THE FINALISTS

1, LAGOSBOY: Since he joined in 2008, LB has been a very quality member of this section. Last year he lost the award to Muhsin. And since his mission here is never because of award, he did not relent in his efforts at making this place a port of call for those who wants to learn about Islam. His contribution in this section in 2010, like previous years, was outstanding. To his credit, by Allah's leave, a prominent Nairalander converted to Islam. The wisdom he deploys in answering questions is very commendable.

2, CHAKULA: Gentle, humble, easy-surfing and ineffable, Chakula cuts the picture of a silent giant. His knowledge is not in doubt. He quotes Qur'an and Hadith regularly to remind us of our duty to our creator. He also engages people of other faiths. He has almost single-handed kept many threads alive in the outgoing year. He is our resident ustaz on hadith and Qur'an.

3, NOPUQEATER: Nopuqs prefers to represent and defend Muslims in the land of name-callers and fact-twisters. Although last here in October, Nopuq's insightful contributions to topical issues deserve a commendation. He has guts for argument, though not fierce. He deploys Qur'an, hadith and other sources to garnish his arguments. He is a quality member of this section, no doubt.

Nairaland General › Re: DAPOBEAR EMERGES POLITICS SECTION POSTER OF THE YEAR - 2010 by Jarus(op): 10:19am On Dec 15, 2010
BRIEF CITATION OF THE FINALISTS

1, KATSUMOTO: Katsumoto is highly respected on the politics section for his analytical prowess and debating skills. He joined NL last year and, within a short time, has risen to fame in the circle of Nairaland Political pundits. He is very visible in serious topics, marshaling facts to buttress his arguments. His choice of words in his comments is another strong point for him. Katsumoto's main turf are arguments that border on Igbo, Biafra and related issues. He is a respected voice in those areas.

"The value of the currency is not linked to the productive capacity of a country. It is no secret that most exporting countries want a lower value for their exports so as to increase their exports. The chinese have been manipulating the Yuan so as to sell more products which is a disadvantage to other competiting countries such as the US and the EU. The value of the Naira dropped in the 80s as necessary conditions from the IMF for the loans from the Shagari and IBB (SAP) governments. Japan is an export driven country, yet the Yen has a lower value than the Swiss Francs. Also, before the advent of the Euro, the Sterling had more value than the Mark yet Germany exports more than Britain."

-Katsumoto, analysing the political economy of currency devaluation

2, DAPOBEAR: Dapo's case in this section can be aptly summarized in what Yorubas call 'Akehinde gbegbon' - teh man that comes late and takes the seniority role. Although he has been on NL since 2006, he became active around October 2010, just two months ago. And within just two months, his contribution was so noticed that he got nomination for this award ahead of old equally respected old-timer analysts. Such is Dapobear's quality. He is no doubt in a class of his own. The manner he deploys facts and history to back his arguments tells a lot about Dapo's intelligence.

"Structure is very important. The decentralized, competitive, free-market nature of the American education system imo is part of what makes it so successful. Schools serve the needs of the populace here. They aren't just appendages of the government that will exist regardless of the quality of job they are doing.

Excellence here is also rewarded. The best schools in America KNOW they are the best and charge more money as a result. Harvard costs more money than University of Maryland. In Nigeria, there is less of a differential in prices between the best schools in Nigeria and the worst ones. This suggests inefficiency in allocating resources, I think.

I'm not saying the American education system is perfect, but I think it does a better job of utilizing resources than the Nigerian one"

-Dapobear, lamenting the decadence in our academic system

3, KOBOJUNKIE; Before the officialization of this award, far back 2007, almost all unofficial threads on most popular/best analyst etc in this section throws up Kobojunkie's name as among top contenders. A google check will confirm this. That shows how respected she is among the NL political analysts and watchers. Although some prominent members will stoutly disagree with this, that she made the Top 4 again this year shows that Koboj is a force to reckon with in this section, take it or leave it. But will she clinch the award, the maiden official edition? You decide. Kobojunkie has shown that political debates is not the forte of men only, with the manner she competes with guys here in discussing issues. She also deploys history, facts and logic in her arguments, never mond her always ROTFLMAO.

"Inferiority complex is an unfortunate Nigerian disease. Blessed with abundant human and physical resources, the best we can do is import goods from all sorts crazy places (most dodgy). We lack the self confidence to buy and promote goods made in Nigeria, when that isn't happening, we are pulling down capable Nigerians, our neighbours and "friends"; all because we are jealous of them or for ethnically bigoted reasons.

We worship whites, Indians and sing in Jamaican patois; while sitting on our own kind. Rather than export Icheoku etc, we create fake copies of "better" cultures and traditions that result in disconnected TV programmes like the "Nigerian Idol."
The man on the street who can't feed his kids, talkless of travelling to the UK, knows all about Manchester United and absolutely zero about Warri Wolves.

Nigeria is the only country on Earth that is like this. When will we ever wake up? "

- Kobojunkie, berating our national attitude, aftermath of wikileaks expose.

Politics › Re: Nigerian Academia In Diaspora by Jarus(m): 9:28am On Dec 14, 2010
Just seeing this thread. A very good one from DK, one of the few Nairalanders that are at home in serious as well as playful discussions.

Most of the guys I know(or have come across in my reading) as very exceptional Nigerian Academia in Diaspora have been listed already. I just have a few comments

When someone asked for a Northerner, I was about digging out Abba Gumel when I read down to see somebody had listed him.

On Bolaji Aluko, I think, today, he is first a public affairs commentator before being an Engineer. His writings are on politics and economy these days.

Late Prof Awojobi was said to be a genius, a mechanical Engineer par excellence and a fierece social critic, but I'm not sure he qualifies in this context, if we recall that we are discussing Nigerian Academia in Diaspora.

Pius Adesanmi and Okey Ndibe are excellent writers - that's all. I'm not aware of their exceptional literary output. Ok, Pius won an Africa-wide poetry prize few months ago.
